Looking for Spinning Reel Recommendations 2024

Here's the deal. I am looking for a Spinning reel that I can rig up with 8 lb. Mono Test for use with weightless rubber lures. 7 inch lizards,Rubber Worms, and such. All I really know about Spinning reels is that I am partial to Quantum as far as my Casting reels go. I wanted to get a concensus here before I went spending my Money on Any reel. What Spinning reel are you using right now and are you happy with it?

Virtually all of my spinning reels are Shimano's, of one variety or another. I just got a Symetre.

Do a search and you will find a wealth of info regarding this particular reel.

Consesus my many is this is the best bang for the buck. AS well as my humble opinion

A lot of folks like the president as well, but it is not a Shimano

Many Shimano fans think the Symetre is the best value.

The Stradic 2500FI was awarded ICAST "Best In Class".

I would recommend the Stradic 2500FI, but both reels

are outstanding:

Strong, smooth, silent and reliant.

I have a box full of used spinning reels I was not happy with including a Quantum PT that sounds like there is gravel in the bearings. Had the chance to use a BPS Pro Qualifier wide spool spinning reel and for the money was amazed at how smoothly it casts and retrieves. Used the 2000 and a 4000 all last two years with no problems what so ever. Ordered another 2000 for the coming year.

The 2000s are used mainly with 10 lb test Fireline for dropshotting and wacky head fishing. the larger 4000 I have spooled 14 lb fireline and use it for a variety of light crankbiats, topwater, and jerkbaits.

BPS has three models of this reel in three price ranges, mine are the mid priced ones.

I am pleased with my Quantum Catalyst and older model Quantum Incyte.

Purchased my first Shimano which is the Sahara FD. Cabelas had a but the reel get an XML for half price deal but haven't hit the water with it yet.

Pflueger Supreme's are a smooth as ice, I was a shimano guy, but have been converted to Pflueger for spinning reels, you have to spend far more than $100 to get a shimano with the supreme features and performance.

Is it unfair to compare a supreme to sahara's, symetre's, or saro's? I think it's completely legit. If we're talking baitcasters that's another story, but with spinning gear under $150 I would go supreme. Just one man's opinion, and many share that opinion with me.

For the use you want I have used Pflueger Presidents x6735 for a long time with good results and no issues They sell for 60 bucks new.

Lots of good choices here, but I'm sold on Pfluger spinning reels. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better value than the President.

For those who are unaware of it. Pfluger makes several models for Gander Mountain's brand name and sells them for less money.

How much do you want to spend?

If you want to spend less than $75, go for a Pflueger President.

If you want to spend less than $100, go for a Pflueger Supreme or Shimano Symetre. (The Supreme is lighter, but I believe the Symetre might have the edge in durability and smoothness)

If you want to spend $100-$150 get a Daiwa Tierra.

If you want to spend $150-$200 get a Shimano Stradic.

well burleynator, I have Shimano's, and I prefer the Supreme to other shimano's at $100 or under. It's my opinion, which by the way, is shared by a number of others as well.

Everyone has their own opinions, and that's why people ask questions on here, to listen to differing view points to form their own opinion. Saying one person's opinion is wrong,or their a turkey, because you don't agree with it doesn't help anyone, especially the person asking the question.

Shimano raised the price of the Symetre twenty bucks and you do not get a spare spool. For 80 bucks I thought they were a good deal, but at a hundred I will look for something else.

Although your line specifications are a little different than what I use my spinning gear with, I went with and am completely satisfied with my Pflueger President. I have an ultralight setup with 4lb line for some fun fishing. Ultra smooth and for ultralight fishing it sure is fun.

There was a while where I thought about getting a Stradic, but I decided for this purpose to spend less on the reel and a little more on a better rod since I do land a bass or three on this setup also. The bigger the fight, the better the rod I would need.

But you asked for opinions and that is mine for spinning reels.

I am a Shimano man for the most part and my Stradic 2500FH is my favorite spinning reel, but I think for under $100 the Daiwa Exceler is the way to go.

BlackBass, I bought that one last spring. So far I like it......I think. They have a new series out that have the paddle handle instead of the round handle, and the padded handle can be purchased separately. It only fits the 3000. I'm gonna by the paddle handle and change mine out. Just don't care for the round one. Thought you might be interested.

as a weekend warrior my opinions are help in little regard here, but, I've been fishing for a very long time and Shimano was my spinning reel of choice until I came in here. I tried the Pflueger Supreme and havnt looked back since. I've only owned it for 1 season so I cant make claims on its longevity, durability, but I can say for what I paid, dollar for dollar.......

I'm REEL happy.

My Exceler is not as smooth as my Stradic FH, but it consistently outcasts it. Fishing from the banks, distance is very important to me. Hard to go wrong with Shimano or Daiwa

I would have to agree with that.I've had my Pflueger's several years now and have no complaints on longevity as of yet.Just routine maint.There may be smoother reels than the supreme's ::)if there is I don,t need them

I was a quantum guy, I'll just start by saying that. I picked up a quantum energy PT spinning reel, the smallest one they make (comparable to shimano 1500). I liked it for a couple months, it was really smooth and really pretty!. I fish ALOT, and the bail is magnetic. It gave out on me after a couple months and was extremely loose, to the point of hanging up line on casts. It wasnt turning over all the way anymore. Actually it was, it was still locking in place, but the bail wire was so frickin loose it was sticking straight out instead of off to the side like it should to not catch line on a cast. I guess buying a reel based on how cool it looked was a big mistake huh? lol

I took it to Bass pro where I bought it. One of the guys there I always talk to and he takes care of me, so even though I didnt have my reciept he traded me straight up for a Saros 1500. This reel is TWICE as smooth as that quantum for the same price. My next purchase is a Stradic 2500F so I just have a little more spool room to go on my next rod, the loomis bsr852GLX senko rod.

I bought two Daiwa Exceler reels last year and love them. Can't beat them at Tackleware House at $69.95 and free shipping. I also got spare a spare reel at this price.

Another vote for the Pflueger supreme. I fish mainly river smallmouth (over 800 hours on boat last year), and catch several a year in the six pound class and these reels perform flawlessly.

Ignore the price completely and just look at performance and this reel wins hands down. "In my opinion"

My tournament partner just converted to the supreme also after seeing how mine have performed. He can now buy 2-3 reels for what he was paying for one before.

I use and love both Daiwa and Shimano casting reels. Shimano also makes a great spinning reel, but I think Daiwa edges out Shimano in this category. Just this year, I have owned a Fuego, '08 Stradic, '08 Sustain, Tierra, and TD Advantage. I actually preferred the advantage and sold the others. I bought them all at deep discounts, and just had to decide which one felt the best. The TD Advantage is essentially a Tierra with a sealed wet drag. It just feels better to me. The TD Advantage (and Tierra for that matter) are just so d**n smooth it's ridiculous. To Shimano's credit, the high end market is a wash between the Stella and Steez, and I owned the old white Stradic for years and it performed well, but I feel Diawa is leading the middle spinning reel market at this time. So I say TD Advantage if you can afford it, or Tierra if you need to step down a hair. The new Fuego spinning reel is ridiculous....but expensive. The new Zaion material is very rigid and the new Fuego is one of the lightest and smoothest spinning reels I've played around with. I just can't shell out that much for a spinning reel though.....
