Hit the lake at 7:00 a.m. today. It was 27 degrees and calm. Our main goal of the day was to try and catch some shad with a cast net, and see if we could catch a few bass. With three throws of the net, we had probably 50- 3-5" shad and it was time to start fishing. I was throwing a shad rap too, and my line was freezing on the spool and on the rod guides. 2nd cast with the shad rap pulled in a nice 4 lb'er, and from then on it was time to catch fish!!! We ended up boating 28 fish. 26 bass and two crappie! We also missed at least 10 others due to broken line or them coming unbuttoned. Ryan met up with us around 12:00 and he boated many fish too, including the biggest bass, around 8 lbs! We had 5 fish over 7 lbs, 10 over 5 pounds, and a 2 lb crappie. Here are the pics! Enjoy

Excellent.
Great photo of the shad.
One look at that and you realize why the chrome/blue ratLtrap is probably the best hardbait ever designed for bass.

Awesome fish man...all I was getting yesterday was 24 of snow.
I'm jealous. You guys slayed them out there. So mostly on live shad? How were you fishing the live minnows (hooking them, fishing them, etc) I dont do too much fishing with live bait but maybe I will have to 'cheat' sometime soon.

You have to catch wild shad first. Use your electronics to find schools of baitfish and catch them with a casting net. You need to have a good bait tank or else the shad won't live very long. He also used some chemicals in the water to make the shad live longer. Then he just used the fishfinder to pinpoint the bait and the fish. From there we knew what depth to drop the shad to. We hooked the shad through their nose right above their mouth. After that, all we had to do was reel them in
Awsome Catch Babe!! I am so excited about getting to go out this Sunday. Hopefully I will catch my new PB! I can't wait!!
If I may make a suggestion, if you want to post a lot of pictures in one post, you can use a picture host site like www.photobucket.com That's what I use to post several pictures in one post. It saves space, and it looks somewhat better too. What you do is you go there to the host site I mentioned, upload your photo, and when the photo gets upload, you get the img tag and put the img tag here on a post. If you need more help, feel free to PM me.
Awesome catch! 8-) I bet you could catch some whoppers on those minnows. Wait, looks like you already did!

That was a whole season worth of big fish for some guys!
