Lois and I got our usual midday start (12:50 pm to be exact),
a day that started out slow and got even slower. Consistent with Florida's weather pattern of late,
the afternoon was breezy and cool. A couple bowfin quickly destroyed
two of my keitech swing impacts by nipping off the paddletails.
I only managed to get one runt bass to the boat, then as the afternoon wore on
the weather grew cooler and windier and neither Lois nor I could raise a bass.
Only moments before I decided to pull the plug on the day, I got a pickup on the Gambler 7.0 Big Stick,
a lure I confess to over-touting on the boards.
She wasn't the sow I was hoping for, but she was the gal that saved the day.
Roger
Real nice fish there bud.
Was the tail fin missing some chunks & you colored it in, or just a photoshop miss hap when trying to enhance the color?
Sucker has some bug eyes on it for sure
Awesome Fish Rolo....keep'em coming

Awesome is right. Beautiful fish, and a nice shot; Congrats to Lois too.
I see a Slider Head too. Is that Okeechobee Craw color on that Big Stick?

Thanks Big O.
By the way, the Rage Lobster has been an exceptional performer
throughout our unusually cold Florida winter.

You're observant as usual Paul
I normally fish the Big Stick on a 3/16 oz Owner Type-Z Bullet head,
but fishing was so lousy today I opted for a 1/8oz Brewer Slider Head.
The color btw is "Shadow Blue Glitter".
Roger
Niceee
Rolo, this is just more proof that Polish folks must not bass fish.
Nobody, and I mean NO body would ever sing "She's too fat for me!"
;D

Hey, now wait a minute! I resemble that remark. ;D
Beautiful bass Roger. Your timely midday start reminds me of a quote from big Al. "the fish never start biting until I get there" Me thinks Lois takes a pretty good picture as well.
Way to go!

Great fish! That's a fish of a lifetime for me in the northeast.

I heard that.
I lived 50 years in New Jersey where any bass over 3 pounds was a dandy.
Come on down

beautiful, and agreed! Anything over 3lbs is a great fish up this way, last year hitting the lake 3-4 times a week, best I got was just under 5... boooo
But great fish, i'll take em like that anyday!

yeah what is up with the tail? Why did you fill it in?
Photo doesn't look retouched to me -looks like the way the camera/software rendered the color. The shadow behind the tail shows it's all there. There's even a drop of water dripping off! That would be some fancy work!

By no means am I insinuating that the fish was photo shopped in. I just noticed, on my computer at home, that some of the tail had a totally diff color to it that looks like it was added afterwards. I used to do photo editing for a real estate company so I have my computer settings set so I could catch any mistake I may have missed while editing. When I look at the pic up at work (diff computer) it looks perfectly fine. I apologize if I sounded like I was taking anything away from the fish, because I'm not. Heck it's bigger then any bass I've caught this year.

I didn't take it that way at all. I have done a fair amount of image editing too, so it's a minor interest of mine.
Why the worry of asking??
Guys, the tail looks photoshopped. Looks like MS paint actually. No question.
Rolo catches pigs out of Kissimmeee all the time...he posts pics all the time. Its not a big deal. The fish is a pig and its a great catch.....i was just curious as to why he filled it in.
Its chromatic abberation. You can look it up....happens when subject is brightly back lit. Small compact digicams have inferior glass, and this crops up frequently.
And oh, nice work Roger.

You would know. I never knew what it was called. Definitely not edited. Why put in the fin splits and water drop, and not do the fin rays and color?
Roger, this discussion (as I'm sure you know) has nothing to do with your catch, but digital image chat for geeks LOL.
Hey J, LOVE you avatar, and it's caption. Fine photo.

Not a problem...have at it gents ;D
You're so spoiled...
Nice fish!

And we have our answer. Its not bad to ask questions guys....people on here get hyper sensitive about being critical......its ok to be curious.

Absolutely. No harm in asking stuff.
I try not to make assumptions about people's intent, when I can't see their faces. Easy to get gunshy on computer boards too.
Geez, last time I ask a ? on these boards. I feel like I high jacked this thread to a whole different topic. ;D ;D ;D my mistake :-/
Glad to know what it's called though. Thanks J. Now that that is all cleared up. Back to the awesome fish.
I didn't notice it at first. But upon further inspection, it appears the photo has been altered.
Shame on you, RoLo.
Now, that's funny, right there.
A tip o' the hat to Daniel
;D ;D ;D
By gosh Daniel, you MIGHT be right. I don't see any water drops off the end of that tail.
J, do you have a term for that one??
Doily Disease, LOL.
That's a grown one there, boys!
Rolo, why do a lot of lunkers have protruding eyes? Is it a sign of old age and maybe their cranial cavity shrinks?
hookset on 3
Well...I did say 'have at it', but that wasn't an invitation to deface the photo :
Here's the irony, everyone was so derailed by a tail issue that never existed,
not one person asked what she weighed
Roadwarrior has the right idea, submit no photos

You nailed it Hookset, "eye size" is an excellent indicator of age.
Regardless of a bass's growth rate, her maxillary and eyes continue to grow at a steady rate.
The same can be said of **** sapiens (man), whose nose and ears continue to grow,
long after the body stops producing growth hormone.

You know, I kinda think it's cool that no one is asking about the number. That's one beautiful bass there. Plus, with your apparent Photoshop skills, it may only be a 2lber!
OK, I will ask, since you appear keen to share.... No, more fun I won't ask; I'll guess...
Using the 7" worm, I get ~23" for the bass, which would put her at about 7lbs. That's my guess.

She was a recouping post-spawn cow.
After I got her into the boat she was totally exhausted (spinning tackle is brutal).
Lois snapped a few images, and I noticed that the bass didn't move once during the photo opp.
Rather than weigh or even tape her, I spent my time trying to revive her.
We treated her like a billfishLois had the electric motor on max, while I held her facing into the current.
I'd say she went about 2½, maybe 3 :-/
Roger
Now that's modesty.
Roger that is a great picture. You nailed it. When I catch a good fish I ususly take a few pics and most look a little off. That one is perfect. Great fsih too.
what a hog, an nice pic
Thank you fellows for your kind words
Matt, I know your plate is already full, but I'd love to see you introduce a soft swimbait for the Atlantic-side.

Nice fish Roger!
Are you still on Walk-In-Water?
QuoteNice fish Roger! Are you still on Walk-In-Water?
Hi Chris
Lois and I moved from Lake Walk-In-Water (Lake Wales, FL) to Lake Pierce (Lake Wales, FL).
The move had nothing to do with fishing (fee simple vs. lot rent <> excellent net access vs. marginal net access)
As luck would have it, our home base is now more strategically located,
and is kind of midway between Kissimmee, Toho, Walk-In-Water, Crooked Lake and others.
More importantly, it's great hearing from you again Chris, I miss your positive presence on the boards.
Roger
