Just wanted to rub it in a little for you folks what live in ice land. I live in Tulsa. The lakes are ice free, but still in the mid-forties. So ...
On Thursday, March, 6 I will be towing my boat to Caney Creek Reservoir in Louisiana to fish with my cajun friends. It's one of the four lunker lakes in Louisiana and is a slot lake. I will be retuning on Tuesday, March 11.
On Thursday, March 13, I depart for Lake Fork to fish my first tournament with a my fishing buddy. Returning on Sunday the 16th.
On Friday, March 22, I will be towing my boat to Lake Guntersville to fish with all of the Bass Resource folks. Returning on Saturday the 29th.
If I do not catch at least one 10lb bass on any of these trophy lakes I will hang my head in shame and come crawling back to this board to ask for your understanding and forgiveness.
I wish I were in your shoes and getting ready to do all that fishing. Good luck and I'll see ya' at Guntersville. 8-)
Mike, that's a lot of driving for a man of your age.
QuoteMike, that's a lot of driving for a man of your age.
Not really, I tend to doze most of the time, but the other drivers seem to come out of nowhere.
Isn't it fun to be retired?
Have fun, be safe and let us know how you do.
And enjoy that good ole Cajun cuisine.
Long Mike, the month of March sounds awesome for you. I'm looking forward to hearing about your escapades.

lol, that was great
;D ;D ;D ;D
Wow!
March is your month.
I'm looking forward to
seeing you at Guntersville.
Good luck!

Good luck. I look forward to reading your posts about your trips.

Mike,
I'll understand and forgive you for setting expectations too high! That's pressure you don't want or need. Just remember this... no matter how good a lake is, there are always WAY more people without a 10 pounder than with a 10 pounder on said lake.
I hope you get your 10... and I hope it comes on day one- so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your trips. But if it doesn't, I hope you still have safe travels and loads of fun!
good luck mike. i'm pullin' for ya man. here's hopin' a monster comes your way.

x2, I want to see a bigger fish than the one in your avatar. ;D Have fun and be safe.
Have fun Mike! And bring back lots of pics! Hopefully I'll get to fish Dripping Springs with ya this Summer! 8-)
Good luck, buddy, and safe travels. See ya in G-ville.
Lucky dawg. That's one heck of a month of fishing. Great way to start the season. Good luck on the 10. More importantly good luck catching a limit in your first tourney.
Mike, what tourny are you fishing on Fork?

Hey Mike,
I don't mean to be a smart @$$ here or anything, but I think you have a spelling error in your post ;D
I highlighted it for you....
It should be THAT instead of WHAT. I just figured I'd let you know...
Have fun and I can't wait to see what you catch! I hope you get that 10 pounder!
I think that is considered a "typo" rather than a spelling error. :
Good Luck and safe trip Mike, call ya tonight 8-)
John J, it was neither a typo nor a spelling error. It was an intentional misuse of the language. If I had wanted to use the proper diction I would have typed "you folks WHO live in ice land."
To all others who have expressed their good wishes, many thanks. I'm hoping for a ten pound-er, but anything over my PB of four would be great.
Good lucky, buddy!
Hope you catch a bigun'.
I look forward to toasting
a glass with you at Guntersville.

Bighead, I don't know the name of the tournament. It is a "one day only, biggest bass" tournament that is launching out of Lake Fork Marina on Saturday the 15th. I'm the back-seater.
That would be the bullet owners open. I expect to be there myself. I'll be in my black & red stroker with my son so if you see us please say hello. Bert
i live in chicago, and i was able to fish most of december, 2 weekends in january, and 2 in february, thanks to a river that has warm water discharges, and a truck to plow the ramp for us
Well, the first trip of the month went just OK. Dismal weather the first day. Blinding snow and fog on the water. Oddly enough, that was our best day. Our foursome caught two above five pounds, one at four and a half, one at four, and one at three. I caught the four and a halfer. The next two days produced nice weather , but only a couple of dinks.
Well, Thursday morning I'm off on my next trip. Lake Fork, TX. Still on a quest for my ten pounder. Hope springs eternal.
So the 4.5 is the new PB, correct?
Have fun at Fork, say "HI" to Bighead for us!
Great job on the 4.5 Good luck in Texas.
Good luck in Texas, but regardless of what happens down there, you
WILL catch some nice fish at Guntersville! The timing is perfect
and hopefully the weather will cooperate. This lake should be on fire!

Just got back from Fork. Not that you need a tip but hear is one anyway. The big mamas are still staging in about 10-12 ft of water around large structure and weed beds.
We were finding the smaller males with red rat l traps in 4-8 ft and then pulling out to 10-12 ft and catching females with jigs. Not any huge ones but i did get a 5lb15oz and a 4lb15oz in the same day.
Hope this helps you a bit and best of luck.
Well, two trips down, one to go. The first trip was at Caney Creek, LA. New PB at 4.5 lbs.
Last week-end I fished my very first tournament, which was held on Lake Fork. It was a one day only "Biggest Bass" tournament. The first prize winner picked up $2050 with a lunker that weighed all of 2.54 lbs. My boat turned in the seventh place entry, which weighed a whopping 0.58 lbs. Needless to say the bass had lock-jaw. A driving rain/hail storm the night before, coupled with 30 mph Northerly winds, pretty much guaranteed that the trip would be a bust. It was. Throw in the problems with me losing my wallet and breaking the tip off a new BC rod and you will get a pretty good idea about how my trip went. To add insult to injury, I did not have the opportunity of meeting Bighead or Matt Fly. Jeeze, that trip really sucked.
OK, it's now all water under the bridge. Next week-end I'm off to Guntersville for a solid week of fishing with a great bunch of guys. I will probably not catch my coveted ten-pounder, but I will have a great week nonetheless. The BassResource trip is the one I've been looking forward to for a year.
Good luck on the 10 and as Ike says "take luck out of the equasion"
Have fun eveyone
Mike, Sorry to not have met you. We were wearing white UT shirts and witnessed the weigh-in, and Don the emcee falling off the stage.
Mike, you didn't tell every one the rest of the story, about the good Texas hospitality. Mike didn't catch the big one, but did have some great fortune.
Mike's lost wallet was lost on a Texas Highway!!!! Money and credit cards and all on his first day down. Lake Fork Marina took care of Mike, great folks, and Mikes wallet was mailed home, Money and all. Some guy saw it an intersection and returned it.
There are still some honest people out there!
Matt
Matt, how you know this information is beyond me. I'm dumbfounded. I didn't know that someone found my wallet until I returned home Sunday evening. To the best of my knowledge, there were only three people on the face of the planet who knew that my wallet had been found. i.e. the guy who found it, my fishing partner and me. Not only that, you know WHERE he found it. Very strange.
As for Texas hospitality, you are right on. Dana, at Lake Fork Marina, took pity on me and advanced me $300 against my lost American Express card. I can't thank her enough. It allowed us to fish the tournament and have enough money to get back home.
As for the man who found my wallet, he is a Saint. There are very few people who would do what he did. When I was finally able to return his call Sunday evening, I told him to keep all the cash in the wallet (about $150) and send the wallet to me by overnight mail. He refused to keep the money, but said he would withhold what it cost him to send me the wallet. Bless you, Mr. Walker!
I wasn't forsure if you wanted the Paul Harvey version told. The Rest of the Story.
Wished I knew you were fishing out of a white Triton. We fished some Sunday as well. We did find some empty beds. I noticed that the water had dropped about 18 inches, so I thought the bass backed out deeper. Its always tough for me when the gates are open. That don't happen alot on Fork and Florida bass don't seem to like it on Fork.
Good luck at Guntersville.
I was just reading through the forum. I am a brand new poster, but I noticed you were going to meet some of the BR guys at Guntersville this weekend. That's awesome, I live about an hour from there. Are a lot of you going to be there? Have y'all been planning this trip for a long time? That just sounds like a lot of fun!
Look in the general section at the top above the dark line -titled 3rd annual bass resource road trip. You will be up to speed after that read!
Sorry I missed you at Fork Mike. I saw the guy weigh the 1/2 pounder so we must have been close. My son got 5th I think but fishing was tough. Fought the wind and didn't have a bite all day. Got flagged down mid day to tow some one in which we did. Broke the TM prop as soon as we went back to fishing. Oh well, next time I hope. Good luck on the Road Trip and have a great time!
Let us know how your trip goes on Guntersville. We'll be heading there 4/5-4/12 and can't wait to get to some warmer weather. Fish on!
Our lakes are ice free too!
