At 5:45am we began our 40 mile run south out of Plattsburgh. But as soon as we hit the main lake it was nothing but 4-5 foot waves, we have to slow down and what should have taken 40 minutes took almost double that. We arrived to the spot we would fish all day around 7am and my second cast with the drop-shot was a sign of things to come. As I'm reeling it up and have 5 feet of line out, a solid 4.5-5 pound smallie nails it, takes about 30 feet of my 6 pound fluoro out, comes out of the water 4 feet and throws it back at me. I wasn't upset or anything it just showed me what was there. About 15 minutes later I put in a 2 pound smallie and a 2 and a halfer and the boater put in a couple nice ones as well. Then I just went on a tare and banged out fish after fish. I put 3 4+ smallies in the boat by 8:30 and I was pretty much done. I fished a little longer and caught a few more 3 and 4 plus smallies but nothing was over the smallest one in the box(4.3). Now the fun part begins.
What were 4-5 footers in the morning had turned into 5-6 footers and it was brutal, even in a 21 foot Kitty Cat. Our flight wasn't due in until 2:15 but with the conditions and the 40 mile run back to Plattsburgh we left at 12:30. It was a good choice, we made it back at 2:03. We speared a couple on the way back, filled the boat with water, and I would be surprised if the boat didn't have stress cracks.
So I get the truck we pull out the boat, bag the fish and go up on stage. Everyone is amazed with the size of the fish as they are all over 4 pounds. I put them on the scale and they come up 9.08 and I'm in 2nd. ?????? So a couple of the guys start yelling for the weigh-master to re-weigh them. I asked for the re-weigh and he put them back on. 12.74!!!!!! And that was it. I now have a nice trophy, a check that paid for all of my tourney's this year, and a back that is gone from the boat ride. I'm really hurting this morning. But it is all worth getting those brown-fish on 6 pound line. Getting ready to go back up later on in the week, gonna see if I can pull a Ryan and go back to back.
*Russ, very sorry I couldn't make it to the CAST event.
Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How could there be over a three lb. differance on the scales ?
I don't know but I know it isn't the first time it is happened. I was weighing them on an X-Tools scale during the tourney and I figured I had about 12.5-12.8. At the weigh-in it never went up and down, just locked in at 9.08 as soon as he put the fish on. The second time it moved around a little and locked in at 12.74. There is no question about it though, everyone of those smallies was over 4 pounds. When you even have the guy who is in 2nd at the time in your division telling you to re-weigh them, you know there is an issue.
Congrats
what was the limit five fish over 4 lbs is way over the 12 something you had either way congrats on the payday.
MIKE!!!! Congratulations!
That feeling is incredible isn't it. I don't know about you, but IMO the trophies are way cooler than the check.
Where does that put you in the points race? I'm sure that if you weren't near the top, you are now.
reread the post i guess 3 was the limit great job. I can not wait to go there agian only been two times
Quotewhat was the limit five fish over 4 lbs is way over the 12 something you had either way congrats on the payday.
No the co-angler has a 3 fish limit. I had a couple other 4 pound smallies I just threw back, so my best 5 would have gone over 20 maybe 21, and it took 19.6 to take it on the boater side. So I could have taken that as well.
Ryan, not sure about the points. I'm not worried about them any way because I can't fish the Regional or whatever it is, I have mid-terms that week. Plus I missed one of the tourney's anyway.
Nice Job
Of course you were missed bro but you got my phone message this morning,...couldn't be happier for you man, live it up, you've earned it!!

Lemme borrow some money Booger.
Congrats on the win Tin. It's very unusual for them to do a reweigh.
Did they ever figure out what was wrong with the scales?
Congrats, thats good to hear.
Nice job Tin.
ALLLLLL RIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! CONGRATS MAN! ;D 8-)
QuoteCongrats on the win Tin. It's very unusual for them to do a reweigh.Did they ever figure out what was wrong with the scales?
No clue. It is just good know and a good lesson that if you think something is wrong, ask for the re-weigh. I would like to know though, it throws off the whole system, makes people question it, and a lot of people can get _____ over as a result. But no one else questioned it after me so it must have been on. I'm sure someone would have said something if it kept happening. Like when they are weighing in their 5 pounder for lunker and it comes up 1.26.
Congratulations! Don't know how I missed this earlier.
Great bag Tin
Good luck next weekend
Good job Mike, surprised I did not hear about this sooner from you.
Congrats Tin!
