Dwight, AnDDy and I have just returned from another fantastic fishing trip at lake Baccarac. The fishing was good and the camaraderie was great! Average catch was around 50-60 fish per man per day, with most coming on a texas rigged lizard in 15-30 fow. A first for me, I caught LMB in more than 30 fow on a t-rig. Pretty cool!
While most of the fish were in the 2-5lb class, we still managed MANY 5's and 6's, with a couple of bigger girls as well. The streak has been broken though, this was the first trip that has not resulted in a DD bass. That one is one we hope to start back up on the next trip for sure!
Here are some pics to wet your whistle, while I am sure Dwight and AnDDy will add their's later. Also I have some video coming up!

Mexico City Airport........let the festivities begin!
Nice swimbait fatty- caught a bunch this size
My biggest from the trip
One I took of AnDDy: He only has video.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I still don't like you guys....
Looks like another great trip - fishing is important but the friends are best. Nice job gentleman.
Yes it was tough especially the heat. The fact we didn't catch any DD's was not from lack of trying. Cranking a SK 10XD for hours on end gave me a new perspective on the will to fish. We did catch a lot of fish. We had one half hour of crank bait fishing that was very exciting with numerous good fish coming into the boat. Sadly no video for that time period. Here are a few more pics.
One more picture.
50-60 fish per guy, per day? -- I'm still waiting to hear about the "tough" part.
You guys call catching 50-60 fish a day tough? I call a 5 fish day a superb day. And those days are rare.
Good fish guys!!

Good fish guys!!
Let's just say we are spoiled. VERY SPOILED! LOL
Tough for big fish, not for numbers. For numbers, this might have been my 2nd best week EVER, in my whole life!
Hot- YES. 101-106 highs everyday. LOTS of water and cover up like my first pic!
Jeff
Gosh. I'm so sorry you guys didn't hit the DD
bass haul. So sad.
And 50-60 fish per day per man? I don't even
know what to say. But I'm with Chris and Weld.
I'm happy with 5. Heck, I'm happy with ONE
to kill the skunk!
Sorry to hear it was so tough. 50-60 2-6lbers a day, some guys really have it bad.

Yes that would be AWESOME. Love to fish the T-rig, that deep is something I don't get to experience here in FL and from the bank........You guys take all your own gear?

Yes, we bring all our own gear.

But does it all survive?

Mine normally does!

All of our gear gets there because we carry on 3 piece rods. But some guys do suffer some breakage while we are there. LOL

They go to Mexico as 3-piece rods, and they return to the US as 4-piece rods.

I'm really trying to work up a tear...
Sorry I’m a little late to the party – walked into a bit of a hornets nest upon my return.
As already reported, this trip included a ton of real quality bass, some hot mornings, a bunch more real quality bass, some very hot afternoons, even more real quality bass and some seriously fast moving & pretty vicious late afternoon Mexican T storms. These ended up running us off the water a couple of hours before sunset 3 of the 6 days we fished. Not a real big deal but that is traditionally one of the best times to hook up with a Big Girl.
Seems like I caught more fish on a Texas rigged Lizard during these 6 days than the rest of my life combined. The bait was hot. A 6 inch June Bug Zoom lizard (Thanks Jeff ) accounted for my two largest Bass; both were just over 7 pounds.
This particular trip became somewhat memorable for me for reasons other than fish catches. For whatever reason, it seemed like the tackle Gods were in cahoots with the Bait Monkey. In one day, on two separate hook sets, I blew up my ST Croix 7’6” MH as well as my 7’ MH 3 piece travel rods – and my face on the second one must have been Classic. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the very next morning on the very first hookset – I blew up Jeff’s St Croix 7’6” MH rod that he was gracious enough to let me “Borrow” – Sorry Jeff. I may actually have this one on video - still have a ton to go through) So that’s 3 rods in less than 24 hours. And it’s not like I could swing by the local BPS and replace them. So I fished the last 3 days of the trip with one Heavy and one Medium rod – not ideal but doable.
And there you have it, another trip in the books. The fishing & the temps were definitely HOT.

Congratulations fellows, looks like the 3 Musketeers had another bang-up vacation!
I couldn't help but notice the almost "square" frame on those bass
Don't give double-digit bass a 2nd thought. They're not going anywhere, and will be heavier next year.
Roger
Great trip fellas. So you can only bring 3 piece rods??? What are the options for bringing rods versus using their rods?
Dwight looks like he is packing some serious bass there...What was the biggest fish of the trip?
Nice nice nice work fellers!! so with all dem fishes y'all caught, how were the bass thumbs, tore up from the floor up? apply, reapply and apply some more super glue?
Glad ya pointed out it was AnDDY in this pic, he was so fishouflouged into the background at first i thought the fish was suspended in mid air
Glad you fellas made it back safely, A-jay, working out all winter musta really turned you into Popeye! 3 rods, wow.. That's too bad, sounds like a fantastic trip, congratulations.

Can't really explain it -
Maybe I could understand it better if I was using braid but I was using 17 lb mono and not doing anything any different hook set wise; but rods were popping left & right.
As for the Popeye thing - I do like me Spinach . . . .

No shimmy, you can use & bring anything you want.
I tried the Full Bazooka rod tube the very first trip - Huge Hassle through the airport and the rods don't always make it intact. One trip a BR member's full rod tube arrived with truck tire marks on it - but somehow the rods were not damaged. So taking travel rods allows them to go as carry-on. Meaning they are with me the whole way.
Usually works well - not in this case however.
A-Jay
Twice I have taken full length rods and the last 4 times I have taken 3 and 4 piece travel rods. Never had a problem with any of my rods until Popeye got ahold of one of mine this time .
Travel rods are just easier and you do not have to pay the extra baggage fees for the large rod tube. I think it will end up costing you a couple hundred bucks vs free with carry on travel rods.
Jeff
Yeah, sounds like a pretty tough trip!
Great pics. Thanks for sharing.

My two biggest went 8-0 & 8-8lbs.
It's a tough job, but you guys are handling it well...
Congrats on another great trip !
Nice job fellas! Next trip there will better for the DD fish. Thanks for sharing the memories and photos.
Side note: Did you guys try some bigger baits as well? Just thinking out loud as read through the recap and pictures.

Yes we did. I spent a good bit of time with some swimbaits, even donating a hudd 68. I took the big stick with me. Rated 1-5oz. More details on that to follow!
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I figured so but I am not a big bait tosser myself, just thought they may help convince the bigger girls to play. Big for me is a 10 inch worm, 5 or 6 inch swimbait, or a larger jig and craw combination.
I would probably be dropshotting, jig fishing, and tossing some bigger texas rigged plastics if I went down there. My fish would probably be even smaller!

We Did - while the deep crank bite was on we took fish on 8XD's and 10XD's.
I also spent a good bit of time launching & winding the Lucky Craft SKT Magnum 120 Mag DR through the depths of Lake Baccarac ~ at 3 1/4 ounces, that thing is a beast of a crank bait.
It was fun and a good workout - unfortunately - had no takers.
A-Jay
Bummer A-Jay, that fish pictured is a toad. Deep cranking can really be wearing. Glad you guys at least had enough good weather to get the fish you did.

I casted Duo Realis G87 20A at 1.25oz
SK 10XD at 1.92 oz which turned out to be the best bigger fish bait
LC SKT Mag 120 Dr crank bait at 3.25 oz
Nichols Ben Parker mag flutter spoon 8" version
Hudd 68 swimbaits
Gan Craft jointed claw 178
Out of these 6 big baits the two baits that caught all my fish were the Duo Realis & SK 10XD. I never got bit on the SK 8 XD or the other mentioned baits.
If the bite for big fish had been better I'm sure the others would have produced. One we determined the bite was either soft plastics texas rigged on the bottom or the briefer crank bait bite dregging the bottom that is pretty much all we did.
Thanks for the reply Dwight. Sounds like you threw the kitchen sink at them. It is such a tough guess as to which bait or baits will produce on any given day. Same thing about bigger fish...
Great report guys. Sounds like a good time was had by all, A-Jay's destructive behavior notwithstanding! A-Jay I hope the hornets were dispatched with minimal damage done. Thanks for the stories and pictures. I am more than a little jealous, but I'll probably get over it...

You'll get over it because all "baccarac" pictures
were Photoshopped, and A-Jay, 00Mod, and the
supposed "Dwight Hottie" don't really exist...They
are made-up hooligans invented and propagated
to get us legitimate bass fisherfolk jealous.
Interesting theory Darren. I suppose if they were to take one or two of us bona fide "fisherfolk" along to attest to all the stories, it would add credibility. I am not sure that will be possible with the expense of A-Jay's new fishing style though.

I am Hoping that it was just a phase . . . .
After reviewing my "needs", I'll be contacting the good folks at St Croix this week looking to utilize their
Gold Star + Upgrade Plan.

Just a random and maybe silly question but had anyone tried this crazy NED rig bait. Seems to be catching pigs throughout the country so maybe it could have worked.
