That is a great bass for CT. Love that girth.
How does a Post spawn Largemouth get that fat during the summer?
I had no scale 8(
I ate it and loved every second of it.. : Jk I rarely EVER keep any fish.
How does one get this big post spawn I believe its the weather.
The water has yet to "boil" and I believe the bigger fish are still very active.
HOLY POOP That's a sow belly... What size rock did youput in it's gut??? J/K I've never seen a fish with that big of a belly... maybe a really late spawner??
Whoa! Was not expecting to see that, especially in July. Looks like it ate a football. Nice toad, bro!!
I believe I met my match, what a belly. Looks prespawn!

Looks like it just ate a baby duck or baby goose. Seriously!
QuoteLooks like it just ate a baby duck or baby goose. Seriously!
I'm with Glenn. That fish must have just ate something HUGE before you caught it.
If fish thought like humans I am sure it would have regretted dragging that big belly around just to get a hook in its face...
It may have not been a record bass but, heck I can't complain one bit.
I have only seen a few bass that had a giant gut but, again this is the 1st I ever caught or seen in person.
Thanks guys
Looks like she needs to fart or be burped.

That fish is egg laden. It is a condition where the fish was unable to drop its eggs. It could be fatal, Here is a picture of another bass that has the same condition and looks to be about the same size

weird, that fish was a freak which IMO makes it even more awesome... hopefully it didn't die... at least it was healthy enough to strike a lure.
My belly stuck out like that once, right after eating at Fazoli's.
Freaky.
that is freaking AWESOME... congratulation on that thing!

QuoteBeautiful New England fish!!!!!!!The bass in N.E. have started a 2nd spawn from all the cold temps.
Yepp... Ive seen it happening here in Indiana as well when the water temp dropped out a second time. Although that bass is more than pregnant. Definately looks like it demolished a family of fully grown bluegill.
First off, great catch ! Big congrats to you
But here's a whole new slant on it;
I once caught a bass.... I believe it went 8.6 lbs, but it was shaped very similar to that one. I mean, it probably had the frame of a 6 lb'er.... or heck... maybe even a high 5'er.... but that same bloated belly !
> And here's the kicker.... I caught it in July, when basically all the other bass in that lake had finished spawning.
After that, I talked a to a few biologists who explained that sometimes fish (not only Largemouth's) become eggbound, which is to say, some kind of blockage takes place that does not allow them to lay their eggs.
This can have varying effects. Sometimes, the fish will eventually die. Sometimes, the fish will reabsorb the eggs (partially, or completely). And yet other times, the eggs will just become hard, as the fishes body basically surrounds the eggs with a barrier, as if the eggs were a foreign body {the way your body would, if you got something stuck in you.... or had a bullet left in you}
A big bass pro once told me about a big, old bass that died on them after the catch. Upon opening the fish up for examination, they found a big, hard "block" of material, where you might have expected eggs to be.
Hmmmm,
Lots of posibilities,
But again, a very nice catch
Peace,
Fish
