What is the maximum drag setting for this reel?

Answer: The drag basically has no give if turned all the way clockwise. I found that out when I lost a big bass. When she turned, Something had to give. The 10 pound test line broke. It was too late but I turned down the drag immediately after that.

Answer: Its got to do with the line poundage. For 10 pound line, you mite want it 8lb or 9lb setting.So on 25lb ,24lb or 23lb you would use.something less than the strength of your line

What are the gears made of? How much plastic is inside the reel?

When you push the button on a cast does it stop the lure?

Answer: Yes. All spincasters work this way. Makes it great if you overcast and are able to stop your lure before going into a tree or dock.

Answer: You hold the button down and release during cast. By holding button gets it ready for cast. Really easy to use..

Is this reel too big for a 6 year old boy to handle?

Answer: I put it on a 5.5 ft pole for my 6 year old grandson and he loves it. He handles it perfectly and can cast a mile.

Answer: The SC330 7+1BB may be a little too big, but SC180 5+1BB would fit his hand once mounted on the rod.

What Rod should I use with this reel?

Answer: The reel will work on mostly any Rod and types of line. Crappie use a light, bass use a medium pole and catfish use a medium to heavy Rod. More of a question is WHAT TYPE OF LINE are you going to use and light, medium or heavy fishing your planning to do? Good luck.

Does it come with fishing line?

Answer: It comes pre-spooled with 60 yards 6LB Monofilament fishing line for SC180 5+1BB or 160 yards 6LB Monofilament fishing line for SC180 7+1BB, so it’s ready to go fishing right out of the box.

Would anybody recommend this for crappie fishing?

Answer: Yes I can, with a light rod. It gives greater control over the drag to prevent tears while setting the hook. The reel has crosshatch cover for better grip. It holds good amount of string or line. I use mine for light to heavy fishing by adjusting the drag or changing the pole. I recommend these reels.

I bought this reel for my girlfriend because she likes the ease of a spin caster reel. She was able to use it this weekend, we went out for 7 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday, so far she loves it. She hasn't had an issue with it so far, loves how easy it cast, how smooth it is, and the reel is solid. She caught a 2.6lbs Bass, a 28" Pickerel, and a bunch of Sunfish this weekend. The 17.5lbs of drag is a bit much, so she turned the knob to about 40% drag and was able to pull the 2.6lbs Bass in with no problems. I love that it's almost completely made from stainless steel, I hate the plastic ones! I would recommend this reel

I have yet to find a dislike. It's ready to use out of the box, has 10# floracarbon line pre-installed. You buy a rod and go fish. It's very smooth and surprisingly cast out very far, lol. It honestly caught me by surprise how far it cast. I picked it out because my son needs a new set-up. He's 8 and it's been perfect for him. No more line flying off, like his baby rod always did. 100% satisfied.

I love easy little spincast reels but dont use then much because I deep fish with slip bobbers. So as I was setting this real up on a rod I noticed the head opening is larger than my other spincasts so I tossed a slip bobber on it to test it out. At first it tripped up casting like most spincasts do when the bobber stop hit the opening but after some small tweaks and trimming it down tight I found this to smooth cast with no tripping up! That is a huge win! Fish were not biting deep that day so I quickly flipped to some topwater buckethead baits and reel casted and this reel was so smooth and went the distance under trees and docks helping me pull in a few buckets. Would recommend this reel for all. It is larger than my zebco but smoother casting and blows away my other spincast reels.

It casts fairly well, both in terms of distance and smoothness. The retrieval feels roughly on par with that of other spincasters. My first time using this reel was a smashing success - likely due to a combination of having good gear, lure presentation, and weather. I was able to catch an assortment of different fish species. Overall, I would say that the reel compares favorably to the Zebco 33, perhaps even a bit better.

I bought this and a Zepco reel at the same time. The Zepco was $5 cheaper. Right away this reel stutters and is not smooth at all. After examining the ibises of the reel it is covered in soot rusting and the gears run rough. The cheaper (and smaller) Zepco reel is smooth and wonderful. I regret buying item as I thought it would be the more solid reel.

I was definitely surprised at what a great reel this is. Haven’t used this type of spin casting reel in many years but sure is smoother than the old ones I remember.
