Questions about Sougayilang Spinning Fishing Reels with Left/Right Interchangeable Collapsible Wood Handle Powerful Metal Body 5.2:1/5.1:1 Gear Ratio Smooth 11BB for Inshore Boat Rock Freshwater Saltwater Fishing
Q:
I have a Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish rod - 7 feet long, medium heavy model (15/30) lb line. What size reel will work best for my rod?
Answer: I would go with the 6000. This is certainly not a finesse situation, even a 4000 is suited for bass fishing, you want the sturdiest reel you can get. i have caught 6 or 7 pound blue cats by accident with a 4000, and I know if you get to 20-30 pound fish you'll want more reel than that.
Answer: I have the same rod and I have the 6,000! I have caught dozens already in the last few months. Dozens of eight to twelve pound channel cats. I also caught a 19 pound Flathead catfish with my 6000. Just make sure you check the screw that holds the interchangeable handle each time you fish!!!
Answer: If your fishing for big cat, I would go with the dk300. I use the 200 and 100 on my bass rods.
Answer: I bought 11BB DK2000, love it. I ended up buying 4 of them. I think it will work for you.
Answer: DK3000

Is this real better quality than the shakespeare cont250b contender spinning reel? i have an shakespeare ugly stik catfish rod.

Answer: Absolutely it is better quality! Not even close.

How to swap from left to right handle?
Answer: to swap the handle remove the screw on the opposite side of the reel. then remove the handle and place it the other side of your reel and tighten the screw

Answer: Yes. But I own both the 1000 and 2000 series. They're holding up fantastic for me and work smoothly and cast and reel fantastic. I'm extremely pleased with both of mine. I even gave one away in a Contest on my YouTube Channel as well.
Answer: Yes it is.
Q:
What is the difference between the 4000, 5000, and 6000 model for this reel?

Answer: type in the internet fishing reel repair there are many places to buy parts I don't know what part of the country you are in a lot of these places have toll free numbers

What size of the reel should i get for graphite medium fast action 7' spinning fishing rod?
Answer: The 2000 or 3000 size will works ok.
Q:
What lb braid line would the dk5000 take?
Answer: scroll down in the listing and look at the reel size comparison grid... you'll find this: 0.35/150 0.4/120 0.45/100. Now determine what size/diameter braid you want and that should shed some light on how much capacity you'd have. Or this: 14/170 16/140 18/120. Within standard PowerPro braid 30lb is equal to 12lb mono.
Answer: it depends on what you are fishing for , braided line is a smaller dia. than mono line so you can use a larger teat line in a braided line musky fishing i use a 80lb. test for walleye I use a 20lb test braided line
Answer: being that braid is such a small diameter you could easily run 30 to 50 lb. on it.
Answer: you can use up to 50 lbs. This one however seem too small to use in the ocean.
Answer: I’d say 50lb braid easily.
Q:
What line can the 5000 hold

Answer: Thatwouldbetheultralitemodel.
Q:
Is this a ice fishing real
Answer: the reel will work for ice fishing, that is what I use it for, it works just great
Answer: Yes this a nice fishing reel , it's great for catching live baits on a sabiki rig. It has a strong drag . I have one and be I like it
Answer: I would imagine that the smaller versions of this reel would work fine..I have a 3000 series I use on the local lakes for hybrids and channel cats
Q:
is the body plastic or metal ?
Answer: It's metal. Dollar for dollar you simply cannot beat this brand. I own 3 different Sougayilang spinning reels and all of them fish better than my much more expensive reels.
Q:
Does this work for 10lb rod?
Answer: I don't see why not I have a 2500 with 40lb. Braid it's works really good I caught 18 inches halibut I reeled it in easily.

Q:
What would be suited for a 30lbs mono line in 10ft pole? This will be used for crab snare. I was told 8000 series but not sure what that means.

Q:
How does the guy who drives the snow plow get to work?

can this reel be use for ice fishing? will it freeze up when it gets below 0??
Answer: It can be used for ice fishing. Everything freezes below 0, including me!
Answer: yes you could but it is large for an ice reel.
Answer: Maybe I got a bad reel, like other postings with negative reviews. Out of the box, it is a very stiff reel and not smooth at all. One reviewer mentioned it had plastic bushings, and not actual bearings. Based on this, I'd say cold weather would only make it even stiffer. I didn't even waste time putting it on a rod.
Answer: all i can say bout this real, is its garbage, mine broke on the first redfish i caught
Q:
Which of these is best for bass fishing?

Answer: I don’t understand how you can bend a metal die cast handle, I’ve been using these reels for several years and have not experienced this problem. Contact the distributor or mind directly, they might send you a new handle or even a reel
Answer: Had that same problem myself, and it’s too late for a refund. This seller sucks
Answer: send it back!!!
Answer: Send it back
Q:

Product reviews of Sougayilang Spinning Fishing Reels with Left/Right Interchangeable Collapsible Wood Handle Powerful Metal Body 5.2:1/5.1:1 Gear Ratio Smooth 11BB for Inshore Boat Rock Freshwater Saltwater Fishing
Nicole : Read good reviews.
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend for Christmas. So far so good. Very smooth drag system. The light weight was a surprise for the 3000 series. Can’t wait to try this out on the river.
Well, after all the handle broke off. I don’t know what to do with it. This is disappointing! We take such good care of our fishing items and all he was doing was changing the line and it broke. Is there any type of warranty?
Tsuriman : Solid and for the price its good
What can I say. I've had it almost a year and it looks nice, drag works good, reel is smooth enough. Not as tight as some of my other reels, like Pflueger. But its more than 1/2 the price. I am writing this because my son dunked it in salt water a few weeks ago. 2 days later it was pretty well locked up. So when I got home, a week later, I opened up a crack, sprayed wd40 and added some reel lube and its like itnever happened. For the price, I'd get another.
Jared Bazan : Overall its a good Reel
Overall, it's good for the money. The wood handle actually gets in the way a bit and is a little overkill considering I use this with 6# test line and for trout. But its also not my main reel so it's not that big of an issue.
likesgoodthingsthatwork : Not a 5-star reel... yet
I find product ratings can be a bit challenging some times... are you rating on value (what you get versus what you paid) or should they be based purely on quality regardless of price. I find it hard to give this a 5-star rating as it's smooth but despite the fact I've taken it down and given it a good lube it doesn't fly truly free with a good crank. That being said, for the price? Hard to beat. Could be 5-star? It sure seems solid but the real reel test is time... and that is something this reel doesn't yet have enough of.
If it feels nice-for-the-price out of the box but doesn't last, what have you got? I'll try to keep this review updated.
James R. Morris : Great Reel Great Value
I attached this reel to a Berkley 6'6 Amp rod with Berkley 8lb Nano braid line and fished all day in the Santa Fe River. It preformed flawlessly long smooth cast and retrieves. I highly recommend these reels and will be buying more for myself
Steve Myers : You get what you pay for...
Normally I buy high-end gear, but this time I bought this because I thought it was a great deal for my brother, who is a first time fisherman.
The reel handle does not stay in the lock position when reeling down on the reel; kept collapsing to the folded position.
Also the line has a tendency to get wrapped under the spool when casting; have to keep you finger down on the line to keep it taunt against the spool when casting..
Amazon Customer : Good for Beginners
Giving its value for its price, I consider it as a very good purchase. At the end of the day you can't beat $20 for a fishing reel. Quality is good but I don't think durability is the best. Just got it a week ago, not sure whether it would last. A bit slow when retrieving so be mindful of that. Hope this helps somebody out there, good luck catching fish!!
Duane : Good value
I am an avid fishermen. You can check us out at Hathaway Family Fun in YouTube. Overall, the reel seems well constructed. There are a few lower grade parts to save money. However, if your looking for value, it's a good reel. Sturdy frame and drag system seems nice.
terryg : Very impressed with quality
I gave it a 4 on durability, because I’ve only used it once and owned for a week. However, for the money, this seems to be a bargain. If Zeppo has this reel was th their name, it would sell for 3 times asmuch. My initial impressions are very positive. I fish a lot, so if it holds up a couple more trips, I’ll order another.
Larry Stout : Handle fell off.
The handle fell off before the first use. When I tried to reinstall the handle, the screw was too short. I would not recommend this reel.
Bailemdon : Not for the long haul
If you want something to start out with like I did with this for my nephew fine. It lasted 14 months with moderate use.
Joey : Ok but not stellar
For the price it is a decent reel; however, it is not very smooth on casting. I would not buy another one. I would try a different brand.
likesgoodthingsthatwork : Not a 5-star reel... yet

Phking123x : Definitely worth the price
I did order size 1000 but they sent size 2000. The overall look of this reel isn’t bad. Definitely worth $17.99 and 11 ball bearings are great. Nice and smooth
Randall : Great value for the money
I use this reel on a 7 foot, medium heavy rod for surf fishing around San Diego, CA. I've caught many fish 6+ pounds from shore; in the surf. Despite all the salt and sand exposure, this reel lasts through multiple seasons of regular use. (with a good rinse and dry after each use) For about the cost of a dozen blood worms, this reel is a great value.

paul harnish : Almost no grease and not 11+1 bearings
When I received this reel it was very rough when reeling. So with not much money into it I took it apart to check it out. When I opened it there was not much for grease inside so I greased all of the gears which were actually metal. I also lubed the bearings which there were 3+1 not 11+1. Once I got it all put back together it wasn't buttery smooth but it was much improved.
Bailemdon : Not for the long haul
If you want something to start out with like I did with this for my nephew fine. It lasted 14 months with moderate use.
Eddy Tor : Less fuss, more time on the water.
Surprised how well this reel has worked for me. I surf fish and fish of the jetties on the Oregon coast. Just rinse with water when done, let it dry, a little WD40 and ready to go again.
Teresa Hutchens : lightweight-smooth-operates very well
I have not had an opportunity to use the reel yet. but mounting it on rod and doing several practice sessions with it appears to be exceptionally smooth and easy to use--- only time will tell about durability.
Menn Family : Decent value for the money
Nice and light weight, feels like the bearings are off or something is not %100 inside the reel. It kinda wobbles and makes a scraping noise when I use it. I still like it and it still catches good size bass!
Sponge~bob : Looks good but doesn’t last
This is a good looking smooth operating reel out of the box but, three months in and it no longer works. Spend a little more money and buy a reel that will last for years instead of months.

That being said, for the price? Hard to beat. Could be 5-star? It sure seems solid but the real reel test is time... and that is something this reel doesn't yet have enough of.
If it feels nice-for-the-price out of the box but doesn't last, what have you got? I'll try to keep this review updated.
Preston Family est. 2006 : Seems good so far...
Only fished it a couple times, seems pretty smooth and hasn't fallen apart yet. I am not expecting years of use for $15, but I stuck it on a light action rod for spinning trout and small bass, hopefully it will hold up a season or two and catch a few.
Aaron C. : Great reel
Very equivalent to a name brand like Diawa or Shimano. I tried two on my surf rods and was very impressed. Decided to buy three more and swap out all my reels on the surf rods. Smooth action, great drag adjustment, the collapsible handle is a great option for bundling multiple rods for storage. I see very little difference between these and the name brands that retail for 2x and 3x.
Racer X : Nice reel at a nice price
Nice reel at a nice price. I have been using my Dk1000 about every other day or so for the last several weeks. It has quickly become my favorite reel for fishing the creek below my house. The action is smooth and I like the wooden handle over something plastic or metal. I have not noticed anything coming loose as I have read in some of the other reviews. On other reels I own I have seen the line bailer start to wobble and become loose over time. Not a big deal, I always just unscrewed the drag knob, lifted off the spool and then just tightened the bailer back down. Note that I have not had this issue with the Dk1000 at all. I am very happy with this reel and if you are looking for a decent reel for a good price I think you'll like this one too.
(with a good rinse and dry after each use) For about the cost of a dozen blood worms, this reel is a great value.
likesgoodthingsthatwork : Not a 5-star reel... yet

Amazon Customer : Great reel and even better customer service
Love that the reel is extremely light weight - the perfect travel reel. It does well for bass or inshore fishing here in texas. This is the third or fourth one that I've owned.
Their customer service is also awesome. My reel starting acting up a bit about a year in and they sent me a replacement, no questions asked. Amazing.

Tony45 : Heck Yeah!
Used this reel for surf fishing in Florida panhandle hooking pompanos. Ok at this price, I figured it was a throw a way, wow was I wrong. This is a heck of a reel, smooth action and extremely balanced. I’m old school and have always used all metal but if you can get past the plastics, you can’t beat this value.
Dale : Unreal
Man you can’t beat this for 13 bucks. I caught a 58 pound bass on this thing yeah boy!
Phking123x : Definitely worth the price
I did order size 1000 but they sent size 2000. The overall look of this reel isn’t bad. Definitely worth $17.99 and 11 ball bearings are great. Nice and smooth
Frequent buyer : Excellent value for low cost reel
Purchased for saltwater use know, or assuming it would be junk after the one time ocean vacation. I was wrong. The water seal was better than assumed. I recommend wholeheartedly.
David A. Jordan : excellent reel for the money
fished for pike in Canada for a week and had no problems with the reel. Good buy.

CJC : REEL REAL BAD
Got three casts out of it.... on the third cast the crank handle flew off and went almost as far as my lure.. I know it's only a 15 dollar reel but c"mon...
Adam Mihara : Heavy weight but servicable
I don't really care for this reel but it will serve as a good backup in case my good reels fail for some reason. I will probably end up donating this.
Lil Lynn : Works so good better than the high dollar gear
I have no issues whatsoever with this reel. It is so amazing. Works so well. And smooth. Built very well. Fished with this thing 3 weekends in a row and worked if not better than the high dollar fishing reels. Who says cheap price items are not good they lied !! This is a good price for and excellent fishing reel. I am going to buy more. Maybe the 3000 for just small and fresh water. I brought the 6000 which I planned to go saltwater fishing as well. But I think it's overkill for fresh water but then again cat-fishing can say different. Caught those catfish I mean some big boys on here and it handles well. So with that said the price is good and this reel hopefully will last me a long time. Time will tell.
Alex : False Advertisement! BUYER BEWARE.
First off, i purchased this based on the reviews. however, I was skeptical about it's claims (11ball bearing) but i purchased it anyways. Upon receiving I immediately opened the drag, which is a common place to put a ball bearing on reels, and found that they use plastic washers. I will be returning this item but wanted to let everyone know that this product is a cheap chinese brand that uses low quality products. Buyer beware!!
Lo lo : Good
Amazing reel crazy smooth for the price. I use baitcaster but this reel smooth ass my 270 shimano reel. First day using it.
Leo H. : Broken when the package was first opened.
The reel was cracked where the screw was a pivot point on the half circle. Apparently cannot be repaired by me.

Dan M : Good value for the money
I use this for bay fishing, so brackish water. Holding up well so far but have only been using it a few months. The drag gets grabby when fighting bigger fish as in 30+ in. Reds. Considering it is 1/4 of the cost of my go to reels not bad. It is a great reel for dock fishing for the kids, smaller fish and they can be pretty rough on gear:)
Ketty : No instructions
I'm new to fishing and there was zero instructions on how to configure and set this thing up. I had my friend's dad do it but the line kept slipping when we tried to go squid jigging with it. I looked at the instructions and there were only instructions on how to cast the line, nothing else. No instructions on how to lock and unlock the reel either and what any of the switches mean.
Geno Ocean : The two DK1000 I ordered are different sizes.
I like the reel. Does what it should. I service my gear often after use so I don't expect to have the same issues as others have stated. I will say that the two DK1000 reels I've ordered came in two different sizes. I found that odd. A redesign to a larger body. I interpret that as two different factories making the same off brand. I wasn't looking for much and I guess that explains why. However it's just a nice reel anyway you slice it. No complaint from me. It's just a good all around reel.
