What size would be the most ideal for salmon and steelhead?
Answer: The size 2000 would be fine; however, this reel's gear ratio is too slow for river fishing. I'd suggest the Valiant Eagle series in size 2000. The Valiant Eagle series has a much faster gear ratio; therefore, it is more suitable for river fishing in my experience.
Answer: It’s hard to to say. Just that some people like fish with an ultra light and some like to use a heavier reel to drag them on in . An if you use braided line or not. So not knowing you style I would afraid to say and you wouldn’t be happy with one suggest. But if use mono line may to lean towards 4000 or 5000 so get a bigger line on it. I do like the one I have. I Manley crappie fish but have caught an 10 1/2 lbs catfish on 6lbs line. Good luck fishing

Answer: 4000 is bigger, and heavier, but it holds more line. I use a 2500, or a 3000 for fresh water, and inshore, but a 4000 to 5000 for offshore, or surfcasting.
Answer: I think that the target species is the primary factor. The 4000 is about the size of my Penn Spinfisher IV and a little heavier. I would have to say that the 4000 is best suited for larger freshwater fish and schoolies, tog, flounder, etc. Hope this helps.

Answer: All Kastking Spinning Reels are "braid ready", and do not require backing, or attaching the braid to a monofilament line to facilitate the spooling of the line.
Answer: Well you don’t fully spool up with braid do half mono then the rest braid and seems to grip it pretty well using that method. Haven’t had a snag yet but have only had it out a few times

Answer: Granted I haven't caught a lot of fish on this new Spartacus but the only difference I can see so far from the Sharky III is a smoother drag. I might even like the Sharkey better still as the handle on the Spartacus feels flimsy. Still a good reel for the price, however.
Answer: I think it’s a much better reel over all. Since Christmas we have caught large sheepshead and now the bluefish are on the bite here in Ponce Inlet. The drag is so smooth on those quick runs.
Answer: I think the sharks may be a little heavier but both has smooth drag an reel smooth also but I crappie fish so I use the smaller reels. I haven’t had either reel long an so far I’m satisfied with kastking products.

The Spartacus II Spinning Reel is the fifth Kastking Reel I've purchased. The drag on this reel is much improved from the Sharkey III model. It's not a feather lite reel but will definitely be durable and last for years like the other models. For the price, it can't be beat. Super fast shipping via Amazon doesn't hurt either.

Perhaps I got a defective reel, I don't know... What I do know is the drag was terrible... It was NOT smooth and it would hang up and completely lock down (a recipe for disaster if your fighting a trophy fish)… Additionally, the reel did not cast smoothly either. I tried both 4 and 6 pound test line and casting was equally bad... Be very, very leery of this reel... Stick with one of the Valiant Eagle variants . The Spartacus II looks good but performs bad.... I really hope I got a defective reel that slipped past quality control... Nonetheless, I returned it for a refund...

This has been my first reel I've gotten from KastKing and honestly I might buy another couple more. I run 20lb braid on the 2000 size. Drag is FLAWLESS and so is the retrieve. Other than that it looks BEAUTIFUL on my Ugly Stik GX2. I've caught multiple smallmouth and pulled out a 10lb sucker on this reel and it's done wonders! I'm just thinking of buying another one right now writing this review.

I love the details on the KastKing products, for this reel there are cut outs for a spartan through out, just a cool little thing. I've owned several KastKing products, and all work well, with a clever, practical design, and very good quality.
