Cant seem to cast. Line pulls out 5,6 inches and thats it. Am I doing something wrong?

Answer: Insure you are pushing the back button lever, hold it down and release when the rod goes forward in about the 11 or 12 o’clock position.

When you push the release button will it relock when you cast out?

A lot of reviews claim new Zebcos don’t perform like the ones we had as kids. I bought the 404 for my kids to do some bass fishing, we have recently been using it in saltwater with sabiki rigs to catch bait in southern florida. The reel started to act up, even with a 1 or two ounce drop weight it would hang up. As an effort to keep using the reel we re-spooled the line it now casts better than the day we bought it. The respool casts great, all the way across our fresh water canal with very light luers, which the original set up would not do. We respooled with P line flourocarbon, ultra thin low memory 7.99 at bass pro shops for 300 yards. Bottom line, get rid of the factory line and respool. I think the issues are, the factory line and spooling get sloppy over time, realling in and pulling on line to overcome snags etc...make the line bind up in the reel. Replace the line and teach your kid how to maintain fishing gear in the process and have fun.

Opened the package and the reel wouldn't cast.

I had to take it apart to untangle the line before I even put it on a fishing rod. The cover doesn’t fit well. When they assembled the reel they tangled the line. I got it working, but I hope don’t have to take the cover off because it’s a pain to put on. I will not buy another one.
