Answer: It's usually a small hatch on the underside of the reel (where the main gear is located) can be secured with a small screw or open hole.

Answer: I have taken mine to the bay without any issue. Definitely has more than enough drag for any bay fish. I rinse my reels down fully when I'm done. No tools are required to open this reel up, rinse it out and oil up the spool bearings.

Answer: Depends what technique you're fishing and/or the size of bait being used. For drop-shot I use 15lbs braid with an Alberto knot connecting 8lbs fluorocarbon. If I'm throwing cranks baits I'll use just straight 12lbs floro. Spinnerbait I'll use 15lbs. Floro

Answer: No, it is about a 150-200 class size baitcasting reel. If I remember correctly I was able to spool it with about 130-150yds of 40lb braid.

Also the micro-control dial was super helpful making slight adjustments to the brake between casts without having to open up the reel to change braking pins. But even if I had to open it, the swinging side door really eliminated the nerve-wracking experience with other reels of dropping doors/parts while in the field. This is also probably the lightest baitcaster reel I've tried. Also customer support was super polite and responsive. Outstanding reel and I plan on buying another for my second rod.

Badaxed : Thumb Bar will not re-engage after cast.
Thumbar release will not engage. I have not used this for more than a week of fishing and the thumbar will not engage all the time. I am disappointed when you spend 120 bucks on a defective item. Stay away from this reel!

Right out of the box it looks amazing! Feels sturdy and well built. Retrieve is so fast! Cast is smooth and quiet. Definitely a rival of the big name bait casters that cost three to 4 times as much. Highly recommended.

As an owner of 5 Shimano Curados I'd put this reel as good or better once you get it set I don't know hotw you're going to backlash it. Not saying you can't but you'd have really screw up and my god fast it's crazy fast highly recommend going to order another.
