Answer: That's what I have used mine for and it has lasted for a year now.....but I really rinse and clean mine after
Q:
Where is it made at
Answer: I have had mine for almost six months and never really looked at the place of origin. So with your question I looked at the box. It is made in China. Thanks for the question and looks like everything else in the good old U.S.A. comes from China. Glad I found out I will not make any more purchases through castking.
Answer: USA? It's the best SPINCAST ever though
Answer: Box says China, does not say on reel
Q:
Is 12lbs. a good casting line for this reel?
Answer: 12 lbs test will work, it will hold roughly 120 to 130 yards. It is prespooled with about 160 yards of 10 lb test (mono). You can also use braided on this reel.
Answer: It comes with 10lb line, but if you restring it with mono, or something like that, it should be fine.
Answer: Should be fine.
Answer: It comes with 10 lb. Cajun Line. I would upgrade to a better 10 lb line. You could likely make 12 lb work if needed.
Answer: It would work but I would keep it at 10lbs mono. Any thicker would not be a smooth cast. It comes prespooled with 10lbs test already.
Answer: This reel is unacceptable from start to finish... However, yes, you could use 12 lb test on it, no problem.
Answer: Yes this works good
Answer: It came with 10 spooled. I would think 12 would be ok
Answer: Should be fine, it comes with a decent 10lb and i use 8lb flouro on it for my daughter
Answer: Should be fine.

Answer: It is clearly stated in the advertisement. Do a little reading on your own.
Q:
Whats the biggest lb line you can put in it
Answer: 15lb test I would not use bread line Cajun line is fine it comes with 10lbs test Cajun line on it I wouldn’t go no bigger then 15lbs
Answer: 12 Lbs Test line.
Answer: Comfortably 12. But i have 15 on mine.
Answer: I would not put anything larger than 12# in it.
Q:
I need a reel that can stand 50# line, fishing for flatheads. Do you sell any?
Answer: I don't sale , but the Kastking Brutas will take braid.
Q:
Frame is made of graphite. how sturdy is it compared to metal body? i had a plastic base that cracked where it connected to rod. thanks
Answer: It seems to be very hard and sturdy. I no longer use the reel, it won't stay lubricated and gets too rough to crank.
Q:
What kk rod is recommended to pair this up with as i love the color and would love a color matched rod?
Answer: I don't know what a kk rod is but this reel is fairly versatile. I put it on a small ugly stick rod and it's a little large but is so smooth. Any full size rod (5 foot plus) would be great with this reel.
Answer: The KK Brutus med 6.6 Casting rod matches great with this reel.
Answer: Brutus reel Brutus rod a match made in heaven lol
Answer: I have a Black Hawk II telescoping rod I am going to use this on.
Answer: Well for me I put it on my fib link aqua Man with roller guides color dosen't match but works well together.
Q:
How does the brutus compare to a zebco bullet? i really like my bullets, but i need to set up a 5th rod. is this comparible?
Answer: I've never used the bullet, but the Brutus is pretty good reel. It has the best gear ratio i could find other than the bullet and is less than half the price. Im on my second one. The first I fell on some rocks and broke it. It was still working good after a years use until that. Caught couple 4.75 lbs and it done fine reeling them in.
Answer: I am not sure. I have had some low and high end Zebcos and this seems comparable and maybe better than the high end. Cast and retrieve is smoother.
Answer: the brutus is garbage
Answer: Dont know but this is a great reel !
Q:
Does this have a bait clicker?
Answer: No
Answer: No
Q:
Can I use heavy braided line? 100 or 125lb line? I want to use for bow fishing.
Answer: I am a bowfisherman, its the best spincast I have ever had, but it might not be the right reel. I might try it, but I would reccomend you use a AMS made for your bow, its worth every cent!
Answer: No. It would be too much. I put 20lb braid on it. That was about it would take.
Answer: Doubt it. Came with 10 lb mono
Q:
How do you open up the reel and lubricate the gears?
Answer: Remove spool cover ,pickup pin cover and spool there are I think 2 screws remove and you can separate rear cover from gear cluster
Answer: Not sure, I didn't have a need to lubricate. It runs very smooth.
Q:
Do you have ETA on when these will be back in stock?
Answer: No
Q:
Can braid be used on this, reel and how much lb.?
Answer: Product Details:丨Gear Ratio:4.0:1丨Frame:Graphite丨BB:5丨Max Drag (Lbs):11丨Mono Line Capacity (Lbs/Yds):10/160,12/130丨Braid Line Capacity (Lbs/Yds):0.25/145,0.28/120丨Weight (oz):9.88丨Inch Per Turn:15.75丨
Answer: I do not know the answer for sure, but my first thought would be no. It’s a lower cost reel similar to the Zebco 33 P,atinum. As I’ve not ever fished with braid, perhaps cintactung them directly might work best for you. It’s a good question, I’d be curious to know myself. I plan on just using the regular mono. I did take advantage of their free spool for leaving a review promotion however. :)
Answer: Yes 10lb braided
Q:
How do i get a spool?
Answer: Buy fishing line at the store and wind it on the reel. It already comes with fishing line in the reel.
Q:

Answer: Should be fine.
Q:
Can you use for light line? Like 4 or 6lb test
Answer: The seller does say that the lightest line compatible would be 6lb mono or braided. Changed mine out with some 10 lb braided and works well with the long cast distance.
Answer: Yes indeed. You may not like the slop in the handle and retrieve of the reel though...
Answer: Works very well with lighter line, just like other baitcasters. A backing can be used first to reduce line capacity if needed.
Answer: Yes. My son currently has 6lb test on his.
Q:
Is this a cheesy reel?
Answer: Nope, I found it a very good reel. It cast well with all types of line. Lures are a chore for heavier line, however dependable for catching a good size fighter. The reel has a great grip for handling to adjusting drag. A good dependable reel for the price.
Answer: It's a very good spincast reel. Much better than a zebco 33. I have only cast it and not put it to test a heavy fish but I do believe it would handle it.
Answer: It would be good if there wasn't so much slop in the reel handle...
Answer: My wife got one of these and she loves it . It's whole alot better than the Abu Garcia abumatic sx , that sounds like a coffee grinder .
Q:
What are the gears made of? Any plastic in there?
Answer: Gears are metal.
Q:
Can i use it for saltwater ?
Answer: This reel is analogous to Zebco 33 on steroids.
Q:
Can I put 18 pound line on this reel easy enough?
Answer: It’s not designed for line that heavy. It works but not as well as lighter line. Best to get a real designed for it.
Q:
What kind of metal is the gears made of?
Answer: Stainless-Steel, Read the about this item. It tells you everything you need to know.
Q:
What is the drag setting
Answer: Do you not understand what "drag" is on a reel? You set the drag on this reel using the thumb knob. You set light drag for smaller fish with lighter line. You use heavier line for larger fish and set the drag higher. What the drag does is allow the fish to pull line off the reel when they pull real hard, this prevents the line from breaking under that pressure.
Answer: Drag setting on top is far tension. You want it just rite.To tight fish can snap the line,to loose the fish can run your line out and you cant reel him in.Wont be able to make him tired.I just pull on the line, you can get a feel whats rite. The line should be hard to pull to trigger the drag to let the line out,so it wont break your line.I like mine pretty hard.Helps wear down the fish faster.Pull on the line hear the drag turning allowing the line to go out.Simple really Happy New Year !!! Happy fishing !!!

Q:
I would like to put 20 lbs braided line on this reel. Will this work?
Answer: The best answer is MAYBE. Generally, braid doesn't work well on spincast reels but some brands do work okay. The braided line will erode the lip of your reel though, over time. Expect to pull off your line and respool frequently. Braided line gets work out faster on spincast reels due to more friction.
Answer: Closed face spincasts dont work well with braided line according to what i have read.
Q:
would anybody recommend this for crappie fishing?
Answer: Yes I can, with a light rod. It gives greater control over the drag to prevent tears while setting the hook. The reel has crosshatch cover for better grip. It holds good amount of string or line. I use mine for light to heavy fishing by adjusting the drag or changing the pole. I recommend these reels.
Answer: I don't see why not!! It is spooled with plenty of line and if paired with the right rod, it should be fine!! I plan to use mine for trout, bass, crappie and perch!! Nice sturdy reel????
Answer: It's a pretty large reel. If you can find a micro spin cast reel with six pound test. Probably better for crappie.
Answer: I would.
Answer: Although I haven’t used it yet, that’s my plans for the one I purchased. I’d say it’s comparable to a Zebco 33.
Answer: Sure why not. It's just a little slow on the retrieve.
Answer: Yes. Use it for panfishing and so far it's held up well.
Q:
Has anyone caved in the push button on this reel?
Answer: This real is so well-built I doubt anyone could cave in the push button.
Answer: I haven't. Been using this reel for 3 months and so far it has been worth the money.
Answer: No I really don’t use it my 9 year old daughter and no one told me nothing yet.
Q:
Is this reel to big for a 6 year old boy to handle?
Answer: The button is large and sits high up off the rod, but it is somewhat easy to press. I'm not sure it would fit his hand once mounted on the rod.
Answer: It was too big for my 7 year old grandson. I got him a micro spincast that was a lot easier for him to handle.
Answer: In my opinion, I would not give this to my 6 yr old. Especially if it’s their first one. I felt like it was big, bulky and heavy for an adult even.
Answer: Yeah, I think so. Start him off with a 3’ Mickey Mouse type kid’s combo. That’s what we did with my grandkids. Maybe in a couple years, but I guess it depends on the child. Dad can always use until he gets old enough!
Answer: It is a large reel. A small kid might find it too much for their first reel. Yet it would last longer than a cheap reel...hope this helps
Q:
What are the deminsions of the reel
Answer: A little bigger than a zebco 303
Q:
If you were to take the paddle handle off the reel, what size is the nut or the shaft the nut goes on?
Answer: Not sure, sorry. Contact the manufacturer.
Q:
Can you use braided line on the kastking Brutus 30 spin cast
Answer: this thing is total junk as soon as i pulled it out the box it started coming apart the button wouldnt cast
Answer: Not recommended for close faced reels
Answer: Is that what this reel is ? if so yes i use it.
Q:
Does anybody grab the reel when fishing.? the plastic screw that sticks way out is a real problem for me. i need flush screw !!! help !!!
Answer: I definitely had the same issue because of the way I hold baitcasters. You will have to modify the way you hold the Reel unless you want to feel that little nub rubbing on the inside of your palm.
Answer: I have a problem with the rubbing of the screw also.
Q:
Can you put heavier line on this reel, say 6lb test?
Answer: Yes
Q:
When i fish, i hold the reel itself.Plastic screw that sticks out way to far,it spins in my palm make a blister.Got ideas?
Answer: Hold 6he pole, not the reel..my 8 yr old loves this reel..never had an issue..
Answer: Don't hold the real, hold the rod handle. I don't have that problem. Might be defective so I would send it back.
Answer: Wear a glove or change your grip.
Q:
Med or med heavy rod for this reel?
Answer: I have it on medium heavy rod, but medium will work too. All depends on a lure weight you will be using.
Answer: Med , great for bass and trout been using 8 to 10 lbs string .
Answer: Medium heavy
Answer: Med
Answer: Works well with both.
Q:
is this reel made for saltwater too?
Answer: not sure mine is for fresh it is a nice reel probably would work in salt water
Answer: I dont think it is. But definitely call customer service. They are more than happy to answer questions and fill you in on all the ins and outs.
Q:
Does it have oscillating retreive?
Answer: Sorry not sure.
Q:
Hi there. Im just a beginner. Can i use this inshore? Cuz i want to fish halibut?
Answer: I live in the midwest so never fished halibut
Answer: Yes a great reel !
Q:
Can this reel be handled by a 5 year old kid? I look for something that last some time
Answer: I would not have a 5 year old use this reel in case they drop it into the lake as it's too expensive to lose unless you can afford to keep buying reels. It's also a bit much for a 5 year old as it's an adult reel. I would get a 5 year old something much cheaper that already has the rod and reel together.
Answer: Probably, would be better with a cheap reel to start to know how to use this one is pretty smooth
Answer: it depends on kid very nice rell simple to use
Answer: Yes, may be a little big at first but will help develop hand and arms
Answer: So far it has truly been a durable real.
Answer: Yes it can
Q:
Would a Kastking baitcasting handle fit on this ?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I assume you mean a “bait casting rod”, if this reel will fit? Yes, it should. Almost all reels will fit on almost all rods. Some combinations are made for and work much better than others.
Q:
Metal gears or plastic?
Answer: The gears are metal
Q:
is the physical size of this reel equal to, micro, ultra light, light, or medium ?
Answer: It is equal to “medium”. Roughly same as a Zebco 33.
Answer: Somewhere between light and medium
Answer: Medium to large
Q:
How can I contact the company? Like call or email?
Answer: Check their web site. They have a great customer service.

Answer: Should be fine, it comes with a decent 10lb and i use 8lb flouro on it for my daughter
Answer: Should be fine.
Q:
do you have the old zebec bullet I think it the first one that came out ?
Answer: No
Q:
Is the 10 lbs any good or should it just be replaced?
Answer: I didn’t try it, I replaced it with 6lb. Crappie fishing
Answer: I haven’t had a problem with the supplied line that it comes with. So far, so good. Seems decent quality.
Answer: Works great for me, no problems.
Answer: It is fine for that reel.
Q:
how big of fish can you pull with this reel

Product reviews of KastKing Brutus Spincast Fishing Reel,Easy to Use Push Button Casting Design,High Speed 4.0:1 Gear Ratio,5 MaxiDur Ball Bearings, Reversible Handle for Left/Right Retrieve, Includes Monofilament Line.
christopher Burks : Extremely well made.
This is an amazing feeling reel. We are going to go out fishing in a couple of days and I can’t wait to use this. Well truth be told this is for my wife I get to watch her use it and be jealous. I can’t wait to see how it works because I want to get one for myself. This reel you can actually feel the quality you can feel it’s weight in the right spots. This is not cheaply made but the price is incredibly affordable. I expect nothing but the best from this however if I have a bad experience I will update my posts and let you know but I don’t think I will have a bad time.
Amazon Customer : Great reel for the price!
Read the reviews. Wanted a reel that was small. Most of my fishing is out of a kayak. It is a great little reel. Used several times. Not always smooth during casting. Not sure if I need to put a little oil. I would recommend it. Lightweight, line that comes on it has been good. A step up from the zebcos on the market, as they just aren't what they use to be. Would definitely recommend.
Richard A. Akin : So well made it looks like a work of art.
This is my second Kastking Brutus spincast fishing reel. my first CastKing reel works absolutely perfectly after using it for a year but I wanted to make sure that I had a backup reel for visitors. I've tried virtually all the other spincast real brands available, but this is definitely the best spincast real I've ever owned.
New Hampshire Hiker : It's solid!
The first thing I noticed was the nice solid feel of the reel. It's a little heavier than I'm used to in a spincast reel. I like that. It feels like an "adult" reel. It is smooth when reeling in line. The drag actually adjusts and works. I can be confident brining in a larger fish. It casts well. The pick up pins are smooth. It retrieves faster than I expected. It will work a lure fast or pull a fish out of weeds quickly. I think it's better suited for faster action lures. I intended to use this as a back up reel, but have decided to dedicate it on a rod and use it often. My favorite pond/lake has a wide variety of fish and I usually need to decide what "strength" outfit to use depending on what species I want to fish for. This reel will be part of a nice easy outfit I will use when I don't know what will be biting. It is properly spooled with Kastking mono. The line has a nice supple feel. I will enjoy this reel.
Candyman : Craftsmanship meets fishing
I'm pleased with this reel (and I paired it with a KastKing rod) in terms of quality and ease of operation. I was using mostly spinning reels but a friend of mine told me about this rig. This is now my go-to, in-the-car setup for all my fishing.
customer in VA : My favorite
I go fishing occasionally and exclusively use spincast reels. I fish for perch, stripers and drum in saltwater/kayak/surf fishing. Also i fish for catfish, bluegill and carp.
I first had shakespare reel which came with Tiger combo rod. Great rod but awful reel. Then i got pflueger, zebco 33 Max version, and this kastking. My favorite one is Kastking. I use 10lb mono and i call this a mercedes of my reels. It is smooth, well made. I use lithium grease to lubricate all the metal parts i can see. I also use wd40 or oil for the insides. That helps with keeping the rust away and smooth operation.
For heavier fish like catfish, i use zebco 33 max. Kastking is more finesse and great for casting and retrieving often. For bottom fishing for larger fish, zebco 33 max is bigger and more comfortable. I have kastking on my medium shakespear rod and zebco 33 max on medium heavy Tiger rod. Works nice.
Brad C : KastKing Brutus A+++
For the type of reel this is and is meant to be you CAN'T BEAT IT. Great value, incredible casting, smooth retrieval, and fairly heavy line (10lb). Great for the young fisherman who wants to advance to the bigger fish without having to advance to a more complicated reel too fast. Highly recommend.
Would have given the review 5 stars on durability but i haven't ran it through the ringer yet, but the weekend is coming. Seems fairly sturdy and robust in the hand. Great overall though
The DeLong : KastKing Products are the Best!
This KastKing reel is top notch! I own three of them and this is my go-to fishing gear for every adventure. This product is perfect for fishing anything and arrived with fishing line already on it. You can't go wrong with KastKing!
Bike Geek : Unshielded bearings, loose-fitting parts, subpar reel-in performance [Updated]
As a happy owner of a KastKing Sharky III Spinning Reel, I was looking forward to my new Brutus Spincast.
But I'm sad to say, the Brutus Spincast is a major letdown. It feels about as clunky as my cheap Shakespeare and Zebco "toy" spincast reels. In particular, the reel-in performance of the Brutus is far from smooth.
First of all, my Brutus Spincast came equipped with the crappiest UNSHIELDED bearings I've seen. (See attached photo.) All of KastKing's marketing material claims the Brutus Spincast has "MaxiDur double-shielded bearings" — which is a complete fib. The Brutus Spincast has low-quality open-caged bearings, and the nylon bushings on my "toy" reels are smoother than the cheap bearings inside the Brutus.
Also, the handle of the Brutus Spincast is very loose. The press-rivet that holds the aluminum handle to the axle assembly doesn't offer a solid connection.
And lastly, the Brutus tends to wind all of the line toward the front of the spool. After 100 casts or so, the front of the spool gets overloaded to the point that the spooled line rubs against the inside of the pickup rotor.
KastKing definitely needs to go back to the drawing board to re-engineer this design and choose a different manufacturing partner, because the Brutus Spincast is a real dud!
[Update 9-19-2019 below]
KastKing reached out to me here on Amazon, thanked me for pointing out the manufacturing flaws, and requested that I call their 1-800 number. Jessica in customer service picked up the phone immediately, and I was able to describe to her the various defects that I've discovered in this reel. She promised to share these issues with the design and manufacturing teams. Meanwhile, she is initiating a refund, and she will notify me when a new manufacturing run of the reel is ready to ship out.
This kind of customer service today — with an actual, caring, responsive human being on the phone — is commendable. For that, I'm adding a star from my initial 1-star review.
When I receive a Brutus Spincast from the upcoming (fixed) manufacturing run, I will update this review again.
In the meantime, if you purchase this reel, I would recommend that you remove the handle and peer into the opening. If you see unsealed bearings, you should consider returning the reel.
[Update 4-15-2020 below]
I realized recently that I forgot to update this review after I received a replacement Brutus Spincast from a new manufacturing run.
The good news? The replacement came with sealed bearings. The bad news? Only two of the bearings are sealed, a third bearing is unsealed, and the remaining three bearings are non-existent. KastKing claims there are 5+1 sealed bearings in this reel. I disassembled both of the Brutus Spincasts I have (the original that I reviewed, and the replacement that KastKing sent me), and I found only three bearings in each reel. I've attached an annotated photo.
After a few months of using the new Brutus, I retired it because the pickup rotor and mechanism rusted to the point that the pickup system stopped working, even though I rotated the front cone off and rinsed the rotor on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, I have three KastKing Sharky III spinning reels that are still going strong after thousands of casts and hundreds of bites each. These I would recommend without hesitation. (I also have two Daiwa BG spinning reels which were 2× the price of the Sharkys — and comparatively higher in quality — as well as two Shimano Curado DC baitcasting reels that were 4× the price.)
I've added one more star to this review to reflect the use of two stainless bearings in the new manufacturing run, and for the commendable customer service that KastKing continued to offer me.
Chuck B. : easy for my wife to use,
First tine out using it and the Matching Brutus rod she caught two bass both keepers in the first 1/2 hr.
she says fits her smaller WOMAN HANDS, ITS NOT PINK..lol..
Easy to cast, can get great cast with very light lurs or rigs with no weight.
Drag is easy to adjust but
She sid the drag button is right in the way of where she usually likes to rest her thumb when reeling it in.
Than then that she just said she wished is came spooled with braid line.
Dwight : Good for the money
This is a good value for this type of reel. Definitely a step above a Zebco 33, but not nearly as good as a Zebco Bullet. Granted that's $32ish vs. $99ish. This reel casts great, throws a mile even with a weightless worm. After using it for a while I'd probably learn it better for control and such. I think for now I'm going to use this reel with a rod I already owned for an alternative crank bait setup. It should cast smaller crank baits a long ways and has a decent retrieve rate for those. I'll probably circle back for an update on my review after using it more than 1 outing.
Racetech : Cheap, poor quality
Paired this with a 7ft rod for throwing spoons at walleye and trout. First time out seemed ok. 3rd time out it's now getting hard to reel in a 2/5 spoon. Not smoothe at all. Seems to bind at times. Doesn't cast smoothly at times either. Drag seems cheap and doesn't work well. Also free spins when reeling and won't pick up the line at times. Imo spend your money on a quality reel
UPDATE......Seems to not be lubed very well out of the box. I opened it up and oiled the bearings it reels much better now but still isnt great.
martez gibson sr : Piece of junk
I would not buy this item again, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Mine broke after three uses. The cast button got stuck in and then the reeling arm broke off. This reel is very cheap quality.
Patrick W Collins : Well built!!
I haven't gotten a chance to actually use this on the water yet but it is a sturdy, well built reel... Has a smooth action and has a good feel to it!! Can't wait to try it out on some fish!!
jblake : Does not reel smooth....
I am not loving this reel like everybody else. It does cast smooth but the reel in is not smooth at all. It feels Jerky when you reel it. Something in the crank is not right. I am thinking about returning it. I hope this helps.
Jack of all Trades : Nice feeling reel
I bought this item for my daughter. I wanted a trouble free, easy to use option that would be similar to the Zebco I grew up with. the new Zebcos do not have the quality of the older ones and this reel feels like it will meet our needs. I would need to use it a little longer before I can give it a 5 star rating.
J. Scenga : Solid reel
Well built and easy to cast. Because of arthritis and a nerve condition in my hands, bait casting and open spinning reels have gotten progressively harder for me to use. Now, I’m again able to throw a line out to where the fish are with little problem. A very solid and dependable reel. Put on a medium action Berkley Cherrywood rod and it was perfect for me!
James E. Powell : New reel for my wife
I use Bait Caster reels, but my wife would rather use a spincast reel, she doesn't like the possibility of a backlash. This reel is AWESOME in her hands. It beats the old Zebco by a mile. She can cast farther and reel easier. To be fair it was an old Zebco, but we had traded it for a cheap Zebco 33 that did not get the job done. All the "better" Zebcos were much more expensive, so we tried this one and are glad we did. I didn't like abandoning Zebco, I had used them for more than 50 years before I traded them for bait casters, but they don't seem to be what they used to be.
Dan : Great baitcaster - DON'T BUY
This thing is awful, I bought this and keep it in the box for a few months, then I decide this summer to use it and it work fine the first two time and then is awful. Is not smooth, get stuck all the time, is not good quality at all.
Get any other reel in the market.

Lisa M Newton : Awesome heavy reel
Now this reel is tough enough for a catfish pole the reel is nice looking and seems to have steel and plastic housing and feels like steel bearings and gears. I put 30 lb braided line on it and it casts like a dream. I would buy it again.
David Steele : Meh
I had high hope for this reel, but after spending a few months fishing with it, the most I can say is "meh." It's okay. I have not had any major breakdowns in function, but honestly that may be because of the 4 different reels I own (all are spincast), this is choice number 3. Overall it just feels cheaply made. The release button is pretty loose, and I am just waiting for the day that it breaks altogether.
At the end of the day, I cannot recommend this reel.
Update: From 3 stars to 1 star: Ya, it died. Never got wet, never laid down on the ground even once. Starting feeling and hearing this gritty grinding trying to reel (which became very difficult to do). Out of 5 spincasters I own this was the first to die, and it received the least amount of use overall on top of that. Buy ANYTHING else and you will be better off.
Mdeemer : This thing can cast a country mile! Lol
Purchased this for my 10 year old and he can sling his lures about 20 yards farther then my $150 bait caster. It’s kinda unbelievable in fact and he hasn’t had a backlash yet after about 300-400 casts. I am very impressed an about to get one for my 6 year old daughter so she can learn to sling some casts too!
DIY Dad : Great value spincast with fast retrieve
This reel was purchased to upgrade my son’s abu Garcia Ike dude spincast combo which has a very slow retrieve and terrible anti reverse mechanism.
I had been looking for something at a good value but a Zebco 33 still has slow retrieve and a Zebco Bullet is $100.
The Brutus is named accordingly...it turned out to be much larger and heavier than I expected. My boy was super excited about it and says it will be just fine though. It’s a heavy duty spincast with extremely smooth retrieve thanks to the ball bearings and the anti reverse must be a one way bearing because it is instantaneous.
Overall I’m real pleased with the initial impression and look forward to testing it out on the water with my boy. I would be real interested in something similar to the Brutus but in a smaller typical spincast frame size.
J. Scenga : Solid reel

SGM97B : Bad gears
I want to love this reel. When I first used it, everything was great. It casts very well, has medium speed for a Spincast reel, and I brought in some monster fish. After about six hours of use it started cranking hard and binding. So i set it aside and used a different reel for the rest of that day. The following day I took the reel apart, this is the most difficult reel to take apart for cleaning and lubrication of all the reels I have ever worked on. It was clean and dry inside but there was no grease on the surface of the gears; so I greased it. Then it was working great again; for about four hours. Then it needed to be disassembled and greased again. It simply will not hold grease on the surface of the gears. I refuse to regrease this reel every three to four hours of use so it will be removed from my rod and tossed. That's a big shame though, it really casts well.

Billy Fowler : Great product for the dollar
Was replacing older and worn reels. Brother bought one of these and the cadet model. I tried it and fell in love. Smooth and cast far. Between the 2 of us we now own five of these all bought in a months time because the the other big name brand we had could compare when they were new
King Arthur : Handle has a lot of play.
I like the way it feels in my hands. I dislike the wobble in the handle. I didn't receive it on time because of shipping.

reptilelover : Poor quality
Used this reel for the first time today, cast out and could not reel in. The line was nested up in front of the spool. Spent 30 minutes removing line. Cast out a second time and it cast and retrieved perfect. cast two more times and everything was great. Forth cast the line nested again in front of spool. It looks like the two things that are suppose to extend to retract the line are not always working correctly and the metal bell that goes forward when you press the release button is getting stuck forward and allowing fishing line to go in front of spool. In my opinion this reel is not much better than a Zebco 202 which sells for $4.99 I will be trying this reel again tomorrow but if problems persist i will be returning
Ask Mom! : Great value if it continued to work but it's heavy!
I love Kastking products, they are usually made well and an exceptional value for the dollar. HOWEVER, this reel was a disappointment. Out of the box I was impressed. The reel seemed substantial and well made though, it was much heavier than I expected and heavier than I was used to. The first month or so of use did not disappoint. I got used to the weight, It was smooth, drag worked appropriately, I was happy, until I wasn't. It seemed to begin to bog down with the use of some heavier lures and after a while it just felt clunky and much less smooth. It felt like it was catching and grinding.
I would normally take it apart to clean and troubleshoot but I decided to not waste my time. Though I got used to the weight, I was still not a fan and then mechanical issues, returning the reel became a no brainer.

Clay Harris : Great value and quality for Kids and Families!
Excellent Reel! Over the years I have tried many Zebco's and Shakespeare combos for the kids to fish with and this reel is by far the best performing one. Paired it with a 6' rod that came with a Zebco 33 and it will cast twice as far with less effort than the Zebco 33. Going to purchase another for my daughters Shakespeare "Lady Fish" rod as that reel broke after 4 months. Best bang for the buck in this category.
Update 5/1/2020- In total I have purchased 4 of these reels (2 given as gifts). I am uploading a few photos to show size as compares to a Red Shakespeare, Zebco 202, and Abu Garcia 476. The difference in performance is not even close, the Kastking outperforms all of them. Therefore we do not even take or use the others especially considering the Abu Garcia 476 and Zebco 202 have line catch issues in the reel where you have to have tension on the line for it to actually reel.
Amazon Customer : IF YOU SPECIFY A DELIVERY DATE, HOLD TO IT. DECISIONS ARE BASED UPON IT!!!!
The product itself is outstanding. The problem I have is with the delivery. My order was promised by Thursday, June 17. Did not arrive until Saturday, June 19. As a result, I was not able to take my twin grandsons fishing on Friday, June 18. I had made a custom rod for each child. They were visiting from
Juneau, Alaska. They're only 10 years old. I may not get to see them again until they graduate from High School... if I live that long. I sent them home with the rods and have already sent the reels. The fishing experience with them can NEVER be reclaimed, however. I'm very disappointed in Amazon!!!
James Harp : Newest Kast King Reel
I received the Kast King Brutus spincast reel today that I ordered from Amazon. It arrived well packaged in a sturdy Kast King reel box and was in perfect condition. I mounted it on the Ugly Stick GX2 casting rod that I bought to use it on. The reel is solidly made and beautiful to look at, I am looking forward to giving it its first outing tomorrow morning. This is my second Kast King reel. I bought a Rover 40 round baitcaster reel from Amazon about two months ago and I am thrilled with it. I am quickly becoming a loyal Kast King customer.

Bob : Bearings Only Made It One Day
I had two of the cast king cadets that lasted for two months with pretty heavy fishing. I figured the Brutus would be a step up. Clearly I was wrong. After just a couple hours of fishing I noticed it was much harder to reel in my spinner baits. Toward the end of the day I couldn’t even keep my spinner baits working properly because of the jerkiness of the crank. The strange thing is when you’re reeling in slack line it feels fine, but as soon as there’s any tension on the line like from a spinner bait or a fish, it turns into a coffee grinder. Clearly there’s something wrong with the bearings or gears. I’m returning it for a refund.

MLG : New KK Brutus Spincast reel
Very smooth operation and smooth casting. This is installed on a new KK Crixus rod and I really like the pairing. Nice setup
This is my 2nd KK reel and I have had very good success with both reels. This Spincast model will be for my wife but I am sure that I will use it as much as she does.
I didn't rate the durability because I haven't had it long enough to offer a fair evaluation.
Mdeemer : This thing can cast a country mile! Lol

REGINALD MURRAY : Nice product for the money
Nice closed face reel I haven’t fished with a close face in years, this reel feels good in your hand doesn’t feel cheap at all, can handle fish of 10lbs or less very well, after using the caster it is recommended to take apart and dry it because it will get wet on the inside
dave : easy to use
I’ve always like this type of reel so this was an easy choice I have four or five reels but this is the one I use the if think I’m gonna do a lot of work because it’s easy to use

IronAddict : Best Bang for your Buck?
I’m not a pro but go out a few times a week to fish for blue gill, bass, and catfish and I like to find and buy gear that is versatile to all these types of fishing. I bought a couple of these Kastking Brutus Spincast Reels for my younger relatives to use when we go out and they work and have been durable so far. As far as weight and function it’s a tad larger and heavier then most spincat reels. I don’t feel it’s functionality is as good as other reels in its price range, while reeling the plastic hex bolt that holds the reel handle on the opposite side of reel spins while reeling so if your palming the reel in your hand while fishing as I do the bolt that spins will rub your hand raw if in contact while reeling. For its price point I think there’s better options. But it does work.
