Answer: It seems to be very hard and sturdy. I no longer use the reel, it won't stay lubricated and gets too rough to crank.

Answer: I don't know what a kk rod is but this reel is fairly versatile. I put it on a small ugly stick rod and it's a little large but is so smooth. Any full size rod (5 foot plus) would be great with this reel.

How does the brutus compare to a zebco bullet? i really like my bullets, but i need to set up a 5th rod. is this comparible?

Answer: I've never used the bullet, but the Brutus is pretty good reel. It has the best gear ratio i could find other than the bullet and is less than half the price. Im on my second one. The first I fell on some rocks and broke it. It was still working good after a years use until that. Caught couple 4.75 lbs and it done fine reeling them in.

Answer: I do not know the answer for sure, but my first thought would be no. It’s a lower cost reel similar to the Zebco 33 P,atinum. As I’ve not ever fished with braid, perhaps cintactung them directly might work best for you. It’s a good question, I’d be curious to know myself. I plan on just using the regular mono. I did take advantage of their free spool for leaving a review promotion however. :)

Answer: Do you not understand what "drag" is on a reel? You set the drag on this reel using the thumb knob. You set light drag for smaller fish with lighter line. You use heavier line for larger fish and set the drag higher. What the drag does is allow the fish to pull line off the reel when they pull real hard, this prevents the line from breaking under that pressure.

Answer: Drag setting on top is far tension.You want it just rite.To tight fish can snap the line,to loose the fish can run your line out and you cant reel him in.Wont be able to make him tired.I just pull on the line,you can get a feel whats rite.The line should be hard to pull to trigger the drag to let the line out,so it wont break your line.I like mine pretty hard.Helps wear down the fish faster.Pull on the line hear the drag turning allowing the line to go out.Simple really Happy New Year !!! Answer: The best answer is MAYBE. Generally, braid doesn't work well on spincast reels but some brands do work okay. The braided line will erode the lip of your reel though, over time. Expect to pull off your line and respool frequently. Braided line gets work out faster on spincast reels due to more friction.

Answer: Closed face spincasts dont work well with braided line according to what i have read.

would anybody recommend this for crappie fishing?

Answer: Yes I can, with a light rod. It gives greater control over the drag to prevent tears while setting the hook. The reel has crosshatch cover for better grip. It holds good amount of string or line. I use mine for light to heavy fishing by adjusting the drag or changing the pole. I recommend these reels.

Answer: This real is so well-built I doubt anyone could cave in the push button.

Is this reel to big for a 6 year old boy to handle?

Answer: The button is large and sits high up off the rod, but it is somewhat easy to press. I'm not sure it would fit his hand once mounted on the rod.

Answer: I definitely had the same issue because of the way I hold baitcasters. You will have to modify the way you hold the Reel unless you want to feel that little nub rubbing on the inside of your palm.

Very heavy reel when fishing all day, and large enough to prevent a palm hold so sort of a pain to fish with more than an hour or so. Rough on the line. Works though, and much cheaper than the major alternative. Would not buy another one and have stopped using it.

I’m not a pro but go out a few times a week to fish for blue gill, bass, and catfish and I like to find and buy gear that is versatile to all these types of fishing. I bought a couple of these Kastking Brutus Spincast Reels for my younger relatives to use when we go out and they work and have been durable so far. As far as weight and function it’s a tad larger and heavier then most spincat reels. I don’t feel it’s functionality is as good as other reels in its price range, while reeling the plastic hex bolt that holds the reel handle on the opposite side of reel spins while reeling so if your palming the reel in your hand while fishing as I do the bolt that spins will rub your hand raw if in contact while reeling. For its price point I think there’s better options. But it does work.

Used this half a dozen times and reel has started to feel “chunky”, not a smooth action. Button feels tougher than it should to push, and jammed a couple times. Expected to get a lot more use out of it before any breakdowns. Initial quality seemed fine, so I’m bummed. Fair play: used by kid. Set down on beach, etc. Not beaten on whatsoever, just not coddled. Disassembled, cleaned, reassembled and still something off... makes me think bearings.

ordered this with some hopes that it would be as good as a zebco omega... the fit and finish looks pretty good
but then it goes down hill from there... the reel casts well but when you start reeling it makes a small grinding
noise.. i tried to lube it but to no avail...still makes a grinding noise and feel that it wont hold up at all

I very rarely do reviews on here but this product is worth taking a second to let everyone know these reels don't hold up. Over only bee fishing with it three times and it already feels like the are binding up. I tried to figure out the issue but it's something to do with the gears inside. When reeling it feels like its hanging up. I bought two. They both are having similar problems. Cheap Chinese crap.

I love Kastking products, they are usually made well and an exceptional value for the dollar. HOWEVER, this reel was a disappointment. Out of the box I was impressed. The reel seemed substantial and well made though, it was much heavier than I expected and heavier than I was used to. The first month or so of use did not disappoint. I got used to the weight, It was smooth, drag worked appropriately, I was happy, until I wasn't. It seemed to begin to bog down with the use of some heavier lures and after a while it just felt clunky and much less smooth. It felt like it was catching and grinding.

I would normally take it apart to clean and troubleshoot but I decided to not waste my time. Though I got used to the weight, I was still not a fan and then mechanical issues, returning the reel became a no brainer.

Amazon Customer : Very smooth but not very durable

This is a very easy casting reel. I use it for quick flipping of plastics where I want to get it out, reel it back, and get it back out on the water as quick as possible. It works exceptionally well for that. However, when throwing crank baits and trying to do a quick retrieve it does not reel in smoothly, it seems like it's torquing and the reel wobbles as you reel in. This limited the speed I could reel in and just makes it feel flimsy. As I said I have no issues flipping plastics with a more controlled, slower, retrieve and will continue to use the reel for that. I also had no line catch-ups when casting, something my old Zebco did a bit of.

I am very pleased with this small heavy duty reel. It casts as far as my spinning reel & retrieves at a good pace when using lures. There is a slight delay to get the line to catch once the lure hits the water but it’s not a deal breaker. Overall I recommend this reel for it’s solid construction & casting performance.

Wow this is got to be the best spincaster I’ve ever purchased. I use to use the old Johnson and Zebco’s back in the 60’s and 70’s and they where great reels. Most reels now days are cheaply made from China. This reel is fairly heavy for a spincaster reel, very well made and super smooth reeling. Very impressed with this reel and it even looks good.

Purchased this for my 10 year old and he can sling his lures about 20 yards farther then my $150 bait caster. It’s kinda unbelievable in fact and he hasn’t had a backlash yet after about 300-400 casts. I got this as a replacement for a Zebco 33 and I probably should have just bought another Zebco the reel looks nice on the black and red rod I have but it is a bit bulky. I don’t know if it’s the line inside or perhaps the gears but it catches just enough to be annoying and makes for a rough reel-in fish or no fish. My father in law has the same reel and has no issues, so hopefully my issue is isolated.

Nice closed face reel I haven’t fished with a close face in years, this reel feels good in your hand doesn’t feel cheap at all, can handle fish of 10lbs or less very well, after using the caster it is recommended to take apart and dry it because it will get wet on the inside

This is a good value for this type of reel. Definitely a step above a Zebco 33, but not nearly as good as a Zebco Bullet. Granted that's $32ish vs. $99ish. This reel casts great, throws a mile even with a weightless worm. After using it for a while I'd probably learn it better for control and such. I think for now I'm going to use this reel with a rod I already owned for an alternative crank bait setup. It should cast smaller crank baits a long ways and has a decent retrieve rate for those. I'll probably circle back for an update on my review after using it more than 1 outing.

Read the reviews. Wanted a reel that was small. Most of my fishing is out of a kayak. It is a great little reel. Used several times. Not always smooth during casting. Not sure if I need to put a little oil. I would recommend it. Lightweight, line that comes on it has been good. A step up from the zebcos on the market, as they just aren't what they use to be. Would definitely recommend.

This little reel is nice. It is beefy but not huge. Feels bulky compared to my low profile baitcasters, but not compared to other spincasters. I'll be using it as a spare for any unskilled friends to use and for ultralight lures which my baitcasters don't like casting.

It casts like a dream. The button feels nice. The bell housing is really solid and not flexible at all. Everything is smooth and nice. The drag works nicely.

The retrieve rate on this thing is really nice for this type of reel, or a bit slow compared to average baitcasters. It is plenty fast enough for functionality until you get to advanced fast-retrieve fishing techniques.

No fish caught with it yet, but will update in time. For now, I say buy it. It's nice.

Got this for my wife for Christmas so just now getting to use it. After some research I thought this was going to be a great reel for her but I should have just bought another zebco. This thing feels like it has a hang-up on the first cast. It is far from smooth. You cant feel any fish hitting at all due to the snagging feeling it gives you while reeling it in. This is the worst reel I have ever used.

Paired this with a 7ft rod for throwing spoons at walleye and trout. First time out seemed ok. 3rd time out it's now getting hard to reel in a 2/5 spoon. Not smoothe at all. Seems to bind at times. Doesn't cast smoothly at times either. Drag seems cheap and doesn't work well. Also free spins when reeling and won't pick up the line at times. Imo spend your money on a quality reel

UPDATE......Seems to not be lubed very well out of the box. I opened it up and oiled the bearings it reels much better now but still isnt great.

Winter is losing its grip here in Illinois. Took the reel out for its first fish, and as expected the line that comes with the reel is weak and twisted. After replacing the line, the reel worked very well. Very easy to use, drag is easy to adjust on the fly, reeling action is smooth and reliable. I would recommend this reel for anyone who is looking to get started in their fishing endeavors.

Excellent Reel! Over the years I have tried many Zebco's and Shakespeare combos for the kids to fish with and this reel is by far the best performing one. Paired it with a 6' rod that came with a Zebco 33 and it will cast twice as far with less effort than the Zebco 33. Going to purchase another for my daughters Shakespeare "Lady Fish" rod as that reel broke after 4 months. Best bang for the buck in this category.

Update 5/1/2020- In total I have purchased 4 of these reels (2 given as gifts). I am uploading a few photos to show size as compares to a Red Shakespeare, Zebco 202, and Abu Garcia 476. The difference in performance is not even close, the Kastking outperforms all of them. Therefore we do not even take or use the others especially considering the Abu Garcia 476 and Zebco 202 have line catch issues in the reel where you have to have tension on the line for it to actually reel.

I know ZEBCO has produced a high quality equivalent for the old reliable 33, but it's expensive.

This KastKing Brutus is an excellent replacement.

But, it really needs a Free-Spool/Anti-Reverse option.

This is an amazing feeling reel. We are going to go out fishing in a couple of days and I can’t wait to use this. Well truth be told this is for my wife I get to watch her use it and be jealous. I can’t wait to see how it works because I want to get one for myself. This reel you can actually feel the quality you can feel it’s weight in the right spots. This is not cheaply made but the price is incredibly affordable. I expect nothing but the best from this however if I have a bad experience I will update my posts and let you know but I don’t think I will have a bad time.

When I finnally got to use it I noticed when reeling or cranking in after each revolution the reel sounded like it was rubbing against something internally. Other than that it worked fine. I used this reel three times. The first two were great. The last time I couldn’t hardly reel the line in with a little spinning jig on the line. Couldn’t figure out what was going on. I took it apart and finally realized that the line is spooling up at the top and rubbing against the inside. So when you cast and start reeling, it is fine. Then as you get the jig closer and closer, it starts to rub and then eventually you are reeling so hard the drag is engaging. Bummed out about this one. I thought it was going to be a good reel.

I like it cast great,Great retrieve.Hold more line.Whats not to luv? i have just one thing!!! the plastic screw that holds the handle on from the other side of the reel. The plastic head sticks way out.Ive never seen that before. It would tear a blister in your hand..Its made to switch the handle easy with no tools.Its not needed past one time anyhow,if that..I grip the reel it self.When i retrieve, like the guy in the video. He doesnt grip completely flush with the reel. The honey comb adds for a great grip. Ive fish that way over 50 years.i asked people in here.l.I was hoping someone else fish my way. would know where i could get a steel screw that fits flush or better yet, a little below flush. Ive seen alot people fish my way..I like the reel just need to find the screw that works for me. Update..... i grind down the plastic head. Its a phillips and flat head screw together. Gotta leave the plastic on from the steel head part of the screw down. Around the shaft part. You can figure it out. I put a foam like plug in it to keep the debris out. Shame i had to do that. i have a casting grip and a retrieve grip. Both should be comfortable, they are not.

I haven't used a spincast in years but for the price as well as Kastking quality I gave it a shot. I would never owned a baitcaster if the past experience with spincast were as good as the Brutus reel. It casts, retrieves like a dream.

I paired this with a KastKing 5 foot ultra light rod. Works great. I fish in a large creek. Bass, Blue Gill, Catfish. No problem with this rod and reel. Durable and very smooth retrieval. Very smooth casting. With lures or with live bait. Overall great operation. Highly recommended. I been fishing for over 40 years, I'm no expert, I don't need a professional set up, this is a great rod / reel for the beginner, intermediate angler. I would buy again.
