Questions about KastKing Summer and Centron Spinning Reels, 9 +1 BB Light Weight, Ultra Smooth Powerful, Size 500 is Perfect for Ultralight/Ice Fishing.
Q:
Does this reel work for saltwater?
Answer: All I use my reel for is SALTWATER fishing!!
Answer: I've use my 5000 in Saltwater. To be honest last year I even submerged it while surf fishing with it, freshwater rinse after each use and stored for the winter. I figured being a very inexpensive reel, I'll just beat on it. Serviced it 2 weeks ago for schoolie fishing, opened it up, 1 tiny tiny spec of rust, on the spool shaft besides. Still had grease in it, no salt, or sand. A quick wipe down, oiled and greased and it's back in service. So I'd say for the money it will certainly work salt applications, had no problem taking down some 20lbs blues.
Answer: I own 2 of the 2000 series reels and have used them both for a year in fresh and saltwater with zero issues.
Answer: I've used a couple of my 2000 reels for inshore stuff. I've dunked them a few times. Just make sure you rinse them off after use, and re-up the oil and grease on the reel and you should be fine. But, honestly for the 20-25$ price point, if they only last me a season or two, I wouldn't care at all.
Answer: Do not use the Summer 2000 (assuming other models too) for saltwater. Rinsed thoroughly after one saltwater use and seized after a couple months of sitting in the garage. Prior to that worked great for many lake and stream visits.
Answer: I forgot to clean mine after a saltwater outing and it seized up over the winter and is now unusable. So definitely clean it if you use it for saltwater fishing.
Answer: No, this is only a freshwater fishing reel.
Answer: I've had a Summer 4000 for over 2 years now. It's been to the beach, dunked and dropped in the sand. It was a $20 purchase and I didn't take care of it one reason or another. It's been packed, shipped across the country and left in my shed for months. I got it out the other day to fit it to a new rod and it's good to go. It had a chopped paint job when I got it, and those spots aren't even corroded. The thing is a tank.
Answer: The Summer is not rated for saltwater. The Kodiak, though, is, and it's a great reel!
Answer: I had both bearings freeze up after 3 shore fishing trips and proper rinsing after. The company did not offer to repair or replace the reel. To be safe I would clean and grease the bearings after every salt exposure.
Q:
Does this bring an extra spool
Answer: This reel does not include and extra spool.
Answer: No. If you want extra spool then go for Mela model.
Answer: No extra spools in either of my 2 orders.
Answer: Unfortunately no. To be honest just buy two. For the price this reel can't be beat.
Answer: Unfortunately no. To be honest just buy two. For the price this reel can't be beat.
Answer: Nope!
Answer: Neither one of mine did. So I would say no.
Answer: Yes
Q:
I got the 3000. Would that be allright for my 7 ft med action rod?
Answer: The 3000, size wise is on par with most 2500 series reels(Shimano)! A 6ft to 7ft Rod would not be an issue for this reel. Just consider what rod would fit your fishing requirements.
Answer: Yes I have two 3000 and one is on a 7ft rod it's whatever feels right for you. Your the one fishing its your preference.
Q:
Will the summer 3000 work with the shakespeare ugly stick gx2? or the ugly stick elite?
Answer: Yes. I use the CastKing Summer 3000 with an Ugly Stick GX2.
Answer: I would match it to a 6' or 6 1/2' medium or light action ugly stick with no problem. If you are going with a heavy or medium heavy rod you should go up in reel size.
Answer: Yes it’s an Excellent choice as I have the same set up GX2 pair with either a 7’ GX2 or the Medium 9’ GX2 you will not be disappointed ????????????
Answer: I don't see why not I have it on my ugly stik lite pro and cirrus both work great for bass, catfish, and carp depends on the type of line u use I like to spool mine with braid to fluro leader
Answer: Yep. I have a Centron on my 6'6" MH gx2
Answer: I have a 4'6" ugly stick elite and the kast king fits it
Answer: I believe so, both rods should have standard reel seats so they should work just fine.
Q:
How do I send reel back to amazon
Answer: By contacting Amazon customer service, not asking people that bought it
Q:
Ugly stick 6 ft medium. Which reel should I get?
Answer: 2000 should be fine I have that on my ugly stick medium they don’t seem to have an in between for the 500 to the 2000
Answer: 1500-3000 definitely wouldn’t go bigger than that
Answer: A 3000 series
Q:
Would the 2000 work on an ultralight rod?
Answer: The 2000 model is just a little large for an ultra light rod. I use it on a 7 ft m action with 8 to 12 lb line.
Answer: No it won't, reel would be too big and powerful. This is a nice reel but it's more for light to light medium rods
Q:
Okay to put 4 lb. line on Summer 2000?
Answer: Yes 4 lb test would be fine on the Summer 2000.
Answer: I would think so, I have used 6lb on mine with no trouble.......Fish On !
Answer: yes
Q:
What size and lenth of braid should be used for the 500 reel with the calumus 4ft 6 in ultra light rod?
Answer: Pending on what your fishing. I use this for catfish.. I use 40 & 50 braid. Which I am surprised it works perfectly fine. Has not failed me yet....
Answer: I would use 8-10 lb braid for a ultralight set up
Q:
Which of these is best for bass fishing?
Answer: Depending on the type of fishing you are doing the 2000 to 4000 are perfect for bass fishing.
Answer: The 3000 will be a good all around choice for bass fishing.
Q:
I have a 5'6'' rod. which reel should i buy centron 500 or centron 2000? why?
Answer: It matters more the size of the fish you’re fishing for than the rod size. I would recommend the 2000 so you at least have the option to go bigger if you want to.
Answer: It all depends on what you are fishing for. Also depends on what size line you will be putting on it. The hire the lb line the bigger the reel your going to need. The heavier the action of the rod will also influence the size reel that you need. A lot of variable's
Answer: I have a 6ft ul with the 500 and 10lb braid
Answer: Skip this reel. It wont last that long. Used it once and it fell apart. Their customer service is terrible to non existent. Go with a Shimano. Less problems and better perfromance. Can get a Sierra for 30 bucks and its really good.
Q:
Is the centron 4000 good for saltwater fishing?
Answer: Def should be as I personally have the 3000 & 5000 and useboth for Saltwater Fishing ???? Super Smooth and they Bring in the Fish.
Answer: The KastKing Centron is not saltwater approved.
Answer: not saltwater approved
Answer: If you rinse it in fresh water and take it apart to make sure no salt water got inside.
Answer: Yes.. perfect for it..
Q:
They got rid of the blue paddle knob, thank you KastKing ! ?
Answer: To me, the color would not take away from the ruggedness of the reel. Mine held up fine catching huge reds along the east coast and also in Canada catching huge walleye and 10lb plus pike.
Q:
I'm reading the specs on the Summer 500. It says it holds 240 yards of 4lb test. A 500 size reel is typically tiny, anyone know the specs?
Answer: First the other answer is incorrect that it is not a bait cast it is a spin cast. It is not "tiny" but small. 5.2:1 gear ratio, that is correct on the 4lb test, 6lb is 155 yrds. I don't know what the drag specs are, sorry.
Answer: It is a regular size bait casting reel that I used for large mouth bass fishing. I've only used it a few times thus far but it has worked very well each time.
Q:
What size reel should I use for a 6' 6" ultralight rod that can help me cast far?
Answer: Id say the best all around reel would be the 2-3000 model (i have the 2000 series). If going to be fishing for pan fish mostly, go with the smaller 500. If going for bigger weight fish or tough fighters like carp/cats go with the 4-5k model. Anything in between those the 2-3000 series should be ideal. I've really enjoyed the reel after about 6months or so of use.
Answer: I personally put the 500 on a 5'6" ultra light that I use for crappie and it gives me great casts, even with 1/16 oz lures. I personally wouldn't go bigger than the 2000 for an ultra light setup.
Answer: Typically you want a smaller reel with lighter weight line. If you want to cast really far, use a split shot sinker either above or below your hook. Hope this helps.
Answer: I would buy the 2000
Q:
Summer difference
Answer: Nice color , perfect size for my rod
Answer: Color, that's it as far as I'm aware
Q:
Is the 4000 too big for a 6’6 medium rod for bass fishing?
Answer: For me is not too big for a 6'6" medium rod for bass fishing. I have not use the one I purchased, I have it spare for in case I need it.
Answer: no
Q:
Can I get replacement inner parts drag parts to the spool? I lost them the last time I tried to remove the line that got stuck in the reel.
Answer: You’ll have to contact kastking for parts
Answer: Yes you can. Just contact kastking.
Q:
what is the bigest size reel
Q:
I can’t find the size 500 reel
Answer: I will look to see if I can find it.
Q:
Do i need a spinning rod if i already own 2 kastking baitcasters (5:4 & 7:0)? if so what's best size/speed for crappie, perch, panfish??
Answer: A spinning rod under 6ft is always a good choice for creek fishing. I have a 5',5"6, and a 6' rod all are great. Even used them on lakes and in the river but for small creek fishing my 5' kastking is my favorite.
Answer: No, if using bait caster style reels spinning reels don’t really work for that application. The Kast king Summer and Centron reels are spinning style and have a gear ration of 5.2 :1. I purchased 2 of the 3000 series for trout and perch and work very well paired with 7’ poles.
Q:
Which one would be good for a 6ft rod? I’m gonna be using it for panfish and stocked trout.
Answer: 500 or 2000 would be perfect. My brother bought the 2000 for trout fishing and he has said it is the best rod he has ever bough and he uses it for trout fishing on a lake in Arizona.
Answer: This would be perfect. It's compact, light and with 2 to 4 pound test should be able to case very far. It's smooth and the drag is constant and works well. I would strongly recommend. I love mine a lot and bought a second one.
Answer: Great little reel. WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
Answer: I like the smallest one
Q:
Which reel is best for trout in creeks? Up to 14"
Answer: Hi max,
Answer: I just use a small ultra light reel, nothing real big. Trout have small a smaller mouth and take smaller hooks, big reels will just me more prone to pulling hooks.
Answer: The 500 will more than Handle any trout
Answer: 500 works for me
Q:
Is the handle grib rubber or plastic on the Centron?
Answer: Thanks for your inquiry, however, the KastKing, which I purchased for my son, is the KastKing Summer 3000, 5:2:1 and the grip is very smooth black rubber. Not sure if this will help, but that's about all the information I am able to provide. Tony
Answer: The handle grip is plastic.
Answer: Rubber
Answer: Nice Smoth reel 2000 &3000 are great for. Walleye and. Bass
Q:
what is the beifets and differences of the diff sizes???
Answer: Hi
Q:
How do you think this reel would do with a Plusinno 7ft spinning rod?
Answer: I pared with 10’ tsunami medium.,,
Answer: "IF" the reel worked properly it would work with the rod but not ideally. I would recommend a larger rod for the size of the reel. It is pretty large and would pair better with a 9' rod.
Answer: it might work for a little while, mine only lasted three fishing trips, the handle broke off , and now it is useless.
Q:
Is the 4000 good size for. 7ft ugly stick
Answer: I have a 3000 & 5000 Series and they both work great on the 7' or 9' Ugly sticks, so the 4000 should work fine.
Answer: Ugly Sticks are built like a tank, it should serve you well! Got a six footer on a Cabelas bait caster and it's a good combo for all kinds of fish...
Answer: Yes, the 4000 would be a good fit for that rod.
Answer: Perfect!
Q:
Which model will hold more line and best for catfishing. I'm using a 8ft pole.
Answer: Get summer 5000 or centron 5000 if you want to hold the max length of line. However they are going to be big. Other than the color and minor details there is no big difference between summer and centron. They are very smooth reels. Worth well above $25-$30
Answer: The 5000 size on both the Centron and Summer have the highest line capacity.
Answer: what size for 10ft surf casting rod
Q:
will 8 pound test be okay for the summer 500 ultra light?
Answer: According to the specifications it says for mono line 4lb/240yrds and 6lb/155yrs. Braid is 15lbs/240 and 20lbs/155. I’m sure you can use 8lb mono but you won’t be able to put much line on the reel since it is the 500 series. I’d recommend going with the 2000 series for 8lbs line. Hope this help with your question.
Answer: Me personally, I would never use 8 pound test line on a ultra light reel.
Q:
can you put 100 lb line braid on the 4000?
Answer: You could put it on by why would you? Are you targeting 100# fish? Anything in that range would certainly test the limits of the reel.
Answer: i would say that is overkill, maybe 30 would be good 40 at the most,i have one and use 28lb gliss line and i like it.
Q:
Do they have a carbon fiber drag? Which Kastking reels have a carbon fiber drag?
Answer: Check the kastking website. It's what it is for, answers to questions about their reels...
Q:
Would this reel be okay for surf fishing bait casting?
Q:
What reel is good for steelhead fishing?
Answer: For Steelhead you may need a tougher reel. We would suggest the Kodiak or the Sharky III.
Answer: Don’t know, I live in Florida.
Q:
Can somebody please explain the different models, and which one to recommend for just lake fishing...everything from catfish, drum, perch?
Answer: 3000
Q:
What are the different sizes and summer things for
Q:
i have a 6 foot light action rod what reel would work best on my rod?
Answer: I would use a 500 or a 2000 reels, depends on what you fish for. The 500 reel has 4 to 6LB capacity and the 2000 reel has 6 to 8LB capacity, these are mono line recommendations both reels are great for light rods. Now if you use braided line you can easily use at least 4 pounds more on either reels since they are much thinner then mono lines. I think the 500 is plenty for light action.
Answer: I have the 500 on my 6 foot rod that I use for trout and pan fish. If you need more line capacity I also have the 3000 size that holds plenty of line for catfish and inshore saltwater use.
Answer: The Summer 500 should work good on it.
Answer: I have the centron 500 on my 6 ft ultralight and really like it ,I
Q:
Is it a 500 or a 2000? Description shows 2000
Answer: I got a summer 3000.
Q:
What size for a 6'6" MA used mostly for flounder and anything else that may accidently bite(skate, sand shark, etc) in the back bays?
Answer: Hello,
Answer: the 4000 is a large reel suitable for skate, sand shark but for flounder i would go with a 2000 or 3000.
Q:
What do the sizes mean
Q:
Can I return the 5000 for the 3000”
Answer: If still in the return period you probably can.
Q:
Is this reel suited for large cat fishing in fresh water on a 12 or 16 foot rod cats in 50 plus class
Answer: definitely not the 3000 series would go with 5000+... 3000 ideally suited for large mouth bass/ smaller game fish.. im sure you could do it but would probably recommend going with the bigger reel for bigger game fish.
Answer: Hello,
Answer: I would probably step up to the 3000
Answer: No I would check into getting a heavier real for that
Q:
does this reel made for saltwater?
Answer: The reel itself can be used for both...however the reel needs to match what your after.. i use it for bass, catfish, and carp works great. I would imagine it working as long as your fishing similar sized species.
Answer: It can be used for salt or fresh water.
Q:
I have an almost unused spool of 20# mono, how many yards (approximately) of 20# mono can/will the size 3000 spool hold?
Answer: The Kastking centron 3000 will hold approximately 125-130 yards of 20 pound mono depending on the diameter of the line.
Answer: The amount it holds is available though a google search. It list the diameter of line and corresponding amount it will hold, so mono braid what ever can be figured out. I can tell you it can probably hold plenty of 20# line for an inland fishing situation.
Q:
How much 12 pound monofilament will the summer 3000 hold?
Answer: 260 yd of 12lb mono. Will hold more with 20 lb braid. Kastking makes a great braid line.
Q:
Can't the drag adjustment from another model, like this one, fit my blade 4000? i also need a replace screw for the blade 4000 handle, which fell off?
Answer: The spool size on each model is different meaning some are smaller some are bigger same with the drag screw. For the price I would say just get another reel.
Q:
What about a blue rod that match the reel
Answer: It depends on your taste. I would recommend the KastKing Centron for a blue rod since its darker and still has blue accents. The Summer reel is too light. But then again if you like the white with blue combination then the Summer works also. It's really up to what you like. I would recommend looking at both reels.
Answer: Whatever floats your boat. Bwahahaha
Q:
What reel is it attached to?
Answer: This is the reel so I assume you are asking what rod it attaches to. The rod I use is an ugly stic medium light 7' rod. I hope this helps.
Q:
Do they have a saltwater version ?
Answer: Yes the Valiant Eagle is offered as freshwater and saltwater reel
Q:
Do you guys sell an extra spool separately to swap braid and mono?
Q:
What size braid is recommended for centron 2000 bass fishing?
Answer: I personally would'nt use it for bass. It's a bit on the light side. It really depends on the size of bass you catch. I like to keep a few bass for dinner if the size will allow it.
Product reviews of KastKing Summer and Centron Spinning Reels, 9 +1 BB Light Weight, Ultra Smooth Powerful, Size 500 is Perfect for Ultralight/Ice Fishing.
Phil : Heavy, sticky.
Well its not a "high dollar" company or reel so I didnt expect much. Just looking for a small 500 size reel to throw on an ultralight for crappie/blue gill. right out of the box it looks really good, however its very heavy for the size of the reel. The bail spring and roller bearing are bigger than the ones on my 3000 size shimano reel. Thee spool is longer than it should be I feel like and I got alot of wind knots and over lapped loops while filling it with 2 pound test so I had to refill it a few times. It feels very sticky, I cleaned it and oiled it but it still reels very sticky and stiff, smooth, but sticky. Hopefully it loosens up with use. Overall for what I paid for it im gonna use it and hopefully catch alot of crappie on it but if I could do it over id go with a different reel.
Kindle Customer : Unbelievable value. Really surprised.
This reel is amazing. Reminds me of my former favorite brand sh**ano. This is silky smooth and quiet. Looks sharp and is built more durably than I expected. Unfortunately, I bought the 500 when I thought I was ordering the 5000. I will be keeping the 500 for my stream trout rod. I also ordered the 5000 for pier fishing this fall for salmon. 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't actually used it yet but I can tell quality when I see it. This reel could sell for 20$ more easily. Get them before they come to their senses!!
Big-G : The Centron Spinning reel is for real
I have had this reel on the lake multiple times now. It has reeled in everything from 1/4 lb to around 6 lb Largemouth Bass. My 6 year old son has reeled in many bluegills, too. This reel performs. It is what it says it is, smooth and powerful. It seems to be very good quality. It is very easy to cast and is accurate. I believe a reel has a lot to do with casting accuracy. People use my rod and kayak when I am taking a break, I trust its durability now and don't lose any thoughts around it getting dunked, dropped or just subjected to kids. I see that it is holding up fine and am not concerned that the water ruined it. I have other inexpensive reels for my kids. I will purchase them KastKings in the near future. It is worth upgrading to this reel from cheaper ones. I have several reels, some costing 3x this amount and I can see no perceivable different between this and significantly more expensive reels (Shimano, Penn, and Abu Garcia).
Aaron Nelson : Will catch fish.... for a day. Then into the trash
This reel landed me a couple of nice snook. I thought I got myself a bargain.
After a thorough wash when I got home I packed it away until my next fishing trip. Unfortunately the reel is clearly made out of the cheapest components (not surprised due to low cost) and was unusable after just one fishing trip.
If you are fresh water fishing I guess you are fine, but if not, might be best to look elsewhere.
Timothy Harris : Adequate
I bought the 500 size for an ultralight panfish setup, as I do a lot of crappie fishing. This reel is certainly worth the price tag, but it won't replace my small Pflueger or Abu Garcia. That said, it'll get the job done. First impressions are that the drag has loud 'cheap' sounding clicks that remind me of a 'Walmart special" Shakespeare reel (this isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as it maintains a constant, even pull [yet to be determined by a fish]) It also reeled stiff when I cranked down the threaded knob that holds in the handle. This was mostly alleviated by only tightening the knob just enough to keep the handle from being wobbly. I may attempt to disassemble and re-grease/oil the reel and see of that helps. I won't be returning this reel but it also won't be the first I reach for on the water. I'd give it another half a star if I could due to the price.
Emma Lambert : So far love them
Reel looks nice, I even had a compliment on the pier about its looks.
I ordered 2 of the 4000 series to take to Okaloosa pier on my week vacation, both functioned extremely smooth with no issues at all, I fished every day and caught lots of lady fish , Bonita, and Spanish mackerel, I used 20# mono on one 30# on the other throwing bubble rig with 30# florocarbon leader, I'm confident this reel would handle anything the average guy could throw at it. I'm getting ready to order the 5000 for next year, I did have a large bonita break my 7' Fenwick in half but still landed the fish.
Michael Herbert : Excellent customer service.
Two reels locked up after only one morning of use in the destin surf. Reels never touched the sand and we're never dunked in the salt water. They were thoroughly washed with fresh water after use. Update as of 11/15/16, customer service is awesome I did not have to contact the company. They contacted me and offered to send a reel to replace one of the ones that locked up. They told me that they stripped the reel down and greased everything with anti corrosion lubricant. So far the reel has been on three trips in the Louisiana marsh and has caught too many trout to count and a few hard fighting redfish. So far everything seems to be holding up well.
David : Beautiful, smooth, cost-effective, and more than enough for that bass or crappie
I've thus far purchased two of these reels and have been very satisfied: they're strong, smooth, functionally crisp, and beautiful to behold. My single complaint is that I accidentally sat one of my rod/reels down on a sandy bank to contend with a feisty smally that needed dispatching: that reel is still smooth, but has been an ongoing process to thoroughly clean out all the sand. Yes, I am aware that getting sanded could happen to any reel, but the Summer doesn't come with a takedown/reassembly manual, just a patent-esque schematic of the parts. Still, these are great buys for freshwater game. I've caught crappie, bluegill, various sizes of bass, and would feel confident with anything up to 15lbs. They can probably handle more, but I'd rather not push my luck: I got them for panfish and they serve that purpose exceptionally. Now if more quality rod manufacturers would match the colors...
M. Brugnoni : Only good for the occasional good weather fisherman, maybe..
Update: I've only owned the reel for a few months now. Initially, I loved it. Everything worked great and it was a smooth reel. After taking it on a couple cold rainy days fishing for trout, things went South real quick.
The next time I tried to use it, it was actually completely locked up. I got it to break free but it was super tight and rough to reel in. I broke it down and noticed that the bearing had brownish looking lube on it. Seemed to have rusted up after getting wet once. I tried soaking it in lighter fluid, which helped significantly. It still has some brownish lube around the bearing that I couldn't completely clean out, so I'm skeptical how long it will hold up. It's certainly not as smooth as it started. I'm going to add more lube to the internal gears to see if it helps smooth things out but I'm not optimistic.
Honestly, it was a great reel up until the point it locked up from, what seems like, rain getting on the bearing.
I would say it could be a good reel if it's only going to be used occasionally and in good weather. It doesn't seem to have any corrosion resistance at all. I couldn't imagine how it would fair if it actually got fully submerged.
Even though it's marketed as a budget reel, I still feel like it should be able to hold up for more than a couple months and handle a bit of rain or even being rinsed off with water. I'd pass for another budget option.
C.W. : Too long
I use a lot of Kastking products and generally like them, but the 4000 spinning reel I recently bought was very disappointing as to ergonomics. The body of the reel is too far forward of the reel seat. If you put the reel between your fingers, you cannot reach the bail easily. Yes,you can change your grip but is not intuitive or comfortable. If you are going to use the reel for bait fishing I’m sure it will be fine, but it will not be comfortable for chunking lures.
K. Smith : Look and feel great!
I hate writing reviews when I haven't used things yet, but out of the box these KastKing Summer 2000 reels look and feel solid and smooth. I bought 2 because I needed 2 and will try them out next weekend and add to my review if I need, but they look like they will be great! Smooth reeling, easy drag, pleasing click of the drag. Let's hope they last and they will be a great value!
D. J. Montemayor : Love my Centron 3000!
So far, I am VERY impressed with my new Centron 3000 on also my new KastKing Perigee II 7'Med 2-piece FA rod. On just my second cast with the new setup, I caught a nice 2lb bass using 20lb Spiderwire Moss Green braid and a 10lb Berkley Vanish Flurocarbon leader. Lure used was a Owner Ultrahead shaky type 3/32oz shakyhead with a Googan Baits drag-n-drop 4" Brown Gill. Can't wait to see what else I can catch with it.
Kat W. : Get out and fish!
Beginner angler here with a beginner opinion... but I ordered three different types of 2000 series reels and of the three, KastKings product outshined them in every category. From easy set up, to easy operation this reel is perfect to get you started. The other reels were low geared, cheap plastic quality, or were just heavier than the KastKing. Now I’m only three reels deep and so far I’ve caught fish over and over again on this new set up. Pair this with a nice KastKing rod and you will be set for an amazon fishing starter kit. While your at it, buy line, you will want to fish the second you get this thing in the mail! Enjoy!
Mr. St-Pierre : KastKing is well worth the money, and giving other vendors a run for their money
For several years I've been watching KastKing grow and believe they started selling on e Bay long ago. Watching this company grow, however, I was uncertain of the quality compared to some of the more familiar manufacturers, for instance, Penn Reels which I will use as a comparison in my review.
Immediately opening the box and holding the reel in my hand this was a winner.
Pro:
* The 5000 has some good weight and make sure you acquire the proper rod to offset and balance. This 5000 is a great snapper reel!
* It has a nice pushbutton break on the knob allowing for appropriate storage.
* Very smooth spinning action right out of the box.
* Easy forward and reverse switch accessible on the front base of the reel.
* The drag is also very stable and smooth, and not wobbly like some other poorly made reels.
* Overall well constructed and likely why the few extra ounces in weight.
* $30 is a steal compared to the more expensive brands and you are getting equal or better quality with this KastKing.
Recommended Improvements:
* The reel felt a little heavier compared to comparable Penn model, but again you get quality and a great price with this reel.
* Improve the timing or closure of an open bail. I opened the bail and started to spin the handle expecting the bail to close easily. It was not easy and took a more force that I am accustomed to however it might just require some break-in time.
Regardless if you are looking for a reliable and affordable inshore reel or off-shore you can't go wrong. I'm proud to add this 5000 and soon a 3000 KastKing to my collection.
GRB : Definitely not built to last
worked great for about three or four fishing trips and then got a bad spot in the gearing, that caused it to hang-up and get real hard to turn the handle about every four or five rotations. very annoying. Unfortunately it is past the 30 day Amazon return policy so I guess I am stuck with this piece of junk. I thought was a good deal. my bad.
Ronald : Very happy with all of my kastking fishing reels. This SUMMER feel is fantastic .
Very nice reel compared to one of my more expensive ones.
This one out preformes it no problem I lined it with some of kastking super power braid 15lb test. And I can say no. Complaints here works very nice my lews 7' rod I'm very happy with my purchase I now own several KASTKING. Reels and am very happy with them
Crick Hopper : Line gets stuck between spool and drag knob
My line (4lb mono) occasionally gets wound between the spool and drag knob.. happened roughly 8 times in 6 hours of moderate use causing tangling, snapped line, and constant drag adjustment from removal.. havent read about this issue so I figured I'd share my experience
Vaughn : Gearing Broke First Use...
Bought for my wife as a cheap travel reel. Bail barely worked outta' the box, never broke in. After, guaranteed, less than 8 hours fishing, something broke inside the reel body, feels like the gears let go inside. I know this is an inexpensive reel but, I'd like a refund/replacement. Reel was not abused/misused. Have had other KastKing stuff that didn't implode after first use. Shoulda' just bought another Daiwa BG. Let's see what happens with response to this review........ hopefully I can at least leave an update on top notch customer service.
Nick : Great reel, even if it were 3x as much
I've only caught about 8 fish on this so far, but I've only missed 2 bites. I just suck at fishing. The zero lash on the anti-reverse really makes for a snappy response when you feel a hit, and reeling them in is smooth and easy. I got the 2000 for a 4-8lb 6'6" medium light rod, with 6lb mono. I wish I had got the small reel, this is great but it's overkill. It's the size I expected, it's just a lot sturdier construction than I expected, and the drag is much stronger than necessary for this rod. I will probably get the small one and use this reel on a heavier rod for salmon and steelhead. This is a huge upgrade from the reels that come on the combo poles, and really cheap!
Rob : #1 Bang for Buck
First off this is my second centron reel. I also have the 2000 model and liked it very much so I thought I would try the micro version. I have a presidential and a couple shimano reels that range from $65-100. They aren't top of the line but are very good quality reels. These centron reels feel just as good as they do. They cast as good, real as good and feel just as smooth. I'm not saying these are the best reels ever made but they are the absolute best reel you can buy for under $50 imo. The only possible points I see not lasting as long as my other reels is the drag knob and drag linkage feels just a little flimsy. I will say that they can catch big fish as I ran into a school of hybrid bass the other day and caught several 5lb fish very easily with no problems on the 2000 reel. I have it outfitted with kastking 12lb braid and 10lb fluro leader. Just to end with, this is a very good reel for the money imo. You can't go wrong here. Thanks for reading.
Joseph Herbertson : DO NOT BUY!!!
Bought 2 of these reels for surf fishing only had them out one time, the button on the reel handle for storage does not lock as it should. Ever time I had to reel in bait or a fish the reel handle kept folding over on it's own because it would not lock firmly. Buy the centrion instead have had better luck what those reel. The summer is junk!
Crash001 : Great value reel for the $
Great freshwater reel for the $
Drags smooth, many aspects of this reel makes it feel like it’s more expensive then what you pay for.
This reel feels heavy for its size, even considering the metal that’s cut out around the spool this reel feels a bit heavy.
If kastking would have put a better quality knob on the handle and to adjust the drag this reel would be perfect I’d gladly pay an extra 5$ for that. And these two places are the only parts of the reel that feel cheap.
I would only recommend this reel for shore fishing. Due to the design any water splashing on the reel can get inside very easily so I don’t use this reel on my Kayak, or very much on the boat even in fresh water.
I use this reel on a telescopic pole with 8# yo zuri hybrid line and have caught 20+ striped bass on it. I got this to leave in my car
For the price I feel this is a good value, I would imagine that the 5000 would be an excellent catfish reel.
EDinWAState : VERY SATISFIED
Love the reel! It's smooth action and tight, firm bail make this a go-to reel for light to medium trout, crappie, bass, and lake perch fishing.
I rated it only four stars because I haven't used it long enough to judge the durability.
I suspect, that with proper maintenance, this reel will be handed down to my great, grandkids someday to the chagrin of my grandkids today.
Tj Smith : Mediocre at best
It’s “ok”, expected better from kast king but you get what you paid for. It looks good but I paid $10 more for a tight line “ cabelas brand “ and it feels way more secure and feels better made then the Kast King. I bought the 4000 and it can definitely cast far with a 12 ft rod and 50lb braid, but it feels like it struggles on bigger fish, and the “handle grip” on the arm feels cheap and flimsy when trying to reel in a 2oz sinker
Brandi Haley : Get value, if you throw money away
I bought this in need of a 3000 series reel. I feel like the market is saturated, so I had a hard time. It’s extremely smooth out of the box, I took it out on open water yesterday, and was impressed. I have it loaded with 10lb mono, and it cast like a dream. I like to the point, I am going to grab some of Kast King reels. I really don’t think you can match it at this price point.
EDIT! This reel was too good to be true, please read as many reviews you can. The first trip with this reel was great. I took it on vacation, and fished inner coastal water. Never touched saltwater. Washed it with fresh water, got home to use it again and it was completely locked up. The screws were so soft, I stripped two trying to take it apart. Bearing was completely rusted. Waste of money, spend 20$ more and get something decent.
SirLancelot : Great value for the money
I'm getting into lake fishing this year and was getting tired of using a far-too-large rod and reel combo on my row boat. I needed something to pair with my Ugly Stik rod as well, and after reading tons of the reviews along with some YouTube reviews, I figured ~$25 was a cheap gamble.
On arrival, it spins nice and freely, and is easy to disassemble for routine maintenance. I paired it with 15lb braided line (should've gotten 10lb braid in retrospect for my lake fishing) and after taking it to the lake the first time, found that it casts beautifully. It has a lever at the bottom to allow it to spin freely either direction, and retrieves with ease without a loud ratcheting buzz.
All things tolled, I'm very pleased, particularly at the price point I got it at. It looks great and the blue braid on it looks fantastic. It is easy to cast and retrieve, reasonably light weight, easy to maintain, and attractive. Can't go wrong for $25. If it wears out after a couple of seasons, I'm out very little. Worst-case, it can be a reliable spare if I ever determine something fancier is required.
Timothy Harris : Adequate
I bought the 500 size for an ultralight panfish setup, as I do a lot of crappie fishing. This reel is certainly worth the price tag, but it won't replace my small Pflueger or Abu Garcia. Layne Galyean : Buy Something Else
I've always been Shimano reel fan, but the looks and reviews of these Kastking rods and reels had me intrigued. I thought I'd take a chance and I ordered three different reels for an upcoming fishing trip. Unimpressed and disappointed was the only way to describe these reels. Flimsy plastic feel. This Summer model was so bad that I'm returning it today. It will barely spin and feels like it's turning on a sanding wheel. Not the smooth reliable action that I'm used to. Buy a reliable brand.
Mike Werthman : Bail Hits Handle every 2 Cranks, but Decent Cheap Reel I Guess
Decided to get a cheap reel for my walleye/trolling rods. I like higher quality rods and reels for jigging and casting and technical fishing, but for trolling and the like, as long as it reels up it works for me. This looked like the tool for the job. Feel is decent, action seems good, but ONE problem - every few cranks, the spinning bail smacks the handle. Not enough to make it unusable but just enough enough make it very annoying. But, you get what you pay for. I would think this would be a very simple and evident flaw across the board, but hey. Like i said. I'll spend the money when it matters. But for this rod setup, despite the annoyance, it will do the job I need.

Tony : Heavy reel, slow retrieve, good for starting reel
Here's an honest review. For a 500 size reel, it is the heaviest thing. They chose to go with fairly robust build quality but using dense materials and cheap castings. This is a great beginners reel and you won't feel bad if you break it. A lot of it doesnt make sense though, gear ratios are too slow so reeling slack line of large fish is hard and can lose them, but it's heavy so it's uncomfortable fishing pan fish all day.
Willy T. : Inoperative worm gear
I bought this reel knowing it wasn't expensive, but without worm gear engaged-useless. I took the reel apart, (like many, before using,) and, from what I can tell, there has to be a piece missing or something. I bought two. One works well, the other a paper weight. I guess I will keep the spool for a spare and toss the rest of reel in the trash. Buyers beware, and test thoroughly right out of the box, and make necessary contacts with shipper/seller/maker.
Josh N : Do not buy for salt water use
I used this guy one time in the gulf. As always when we finish fishing, we rinse off the reels with fresh water. I actually dunked this guy a couple times in the cooler and about 15 min later I hit it with some Penn reel oil. I’ve neglected reels before but have never had one seize up like this one. No even my Walmart reels. The next day it literally would not turn without sticking the bottom of the rod between your legs and pumping the hell out of it. I really liked how it looked and how smooth it was out of the box but I would not recommend this for salt water fishing. It was not built for it even though the description states otherwise.
Ahmed H. : Broke after one time use
Used it one time in Panama City beach last summer, i used it for 3 days of fishing. It was very ok reel, the drag was not that impressive. I cleaned it, and lubricated it, after I came back and stored it for this summer. Today when I took out to go fishing, I found out that the reverse lock is not working, I tried to fix it, but the nut is completely broken and doesn’t come off. It’s a very cheap materials, the only thing going for it is the way it look. I wouldn’t recommend it for any one.
Don Harris : Smooth, Strong Reel
I ordered this reel thinking it would a little smaller than it is. I should have ordered the 3000. However, I have turned it into a catfish reel and it has met the challenge well. A week ago, I caught several 2 lbs - 4 lbs channel cats and it was great for the task. I had loaded it with 10 lbs test line thinking I would use it for bass. With the lighter line, I had to use a looser drag setting. It was smooth and strong. I enjoyed fishing with it. I bet the 5000 would be even better for cats and other large, harder fighting fish. For under $30, you can't beat it!
I highly recommend this reel to anyone considering it.
scotty : Shimano user no more
Used to be a die hard Shimano guy , wouldn’t spend a dime on any gear that wasn’t Shimano. I had been out of fishing for a few years and getting back into it I found I just couldn’t pay the price of the new Shimano gear and had to look for a different brand and I think I found it ! I love the reel as of right now but will see if it holds up to my creek stomping for smallies and trout fishing, I’m ruff on my gear and have been told I use way to light of equipment for what I fish for but hey that’s part of the fun , hooking into a 4# small mouth on ultralight gear and line in a log filled river standing in a hole waist deep fighting that bronze back beast . Damn I love it and I hope this reel can handle it ! We will see !!!!
Dr. Mahmoud Al Aasar : AN AMAZING reel for its price
AN AMAZING reel for its price .... i got this as a starting reel for my 6 year old son.. he loves it !! and he even caught 2 fish on his first ever time using a reel:) you will be amazed at how good this reel is !!! i bought the 2000 series .. the drag was good for its size ... i will for sure try the rest of the reels made by this company... feels like $90 reel :) for one third the price .
Virginia Customer : Can't go wrong here, Well Built!
It will be a few months before I can put this to use but I am not disappointed with the buy one bit. A little heavier than expected, but the way it is built it will last. Will be using on an 8' light for white perch and crappie. I may get another rod but 7' next time and will most likely get the 500 again but in blue. I think this will do the job just fine on either.
I believe KastKing is striving to put out good products they way they should in keeping the name up at the top. I wish they didn't have to start having product made overseas to stay competitive.
I have a Rover 40 conventional that I love and will be buying another as I do more trolling and cat fishing than I will be for crappie and white perch.

SDF1 : Buy it
The handle feels really cheaply made. The whole reel feels like it would break. But you know what? It handles like a champ. I paired it with my med-heavy Berkley rod, put runcl braided line on the reel and put it to the test. I used it for saltwater fishing, and it really handled everything I threw at it. Pulled in 2lb fish, no problem, snags, no problem. Fish after fish after fish, it was awesome. I would definitely buy again. I can't say how long this reel will last, but, with the regular care I usually do, I feel like it will last a long time. Wow. Awesome. Love it.
ed : Initial impressions of the Centurion 500 **Update after fishing with it**
I've been fishing for close to 50 years. I've fished for bass, bream, catfish, crappie, redfish, sheeps head, speckled trout, sharks, crevalle jack, African pompano, tarpon, snook and a few others. I have had spinning, baitcast and fly rigs and everything from the cheapest thing that a poor kid could get his hands on to some fine Penn, Diawa, Quantum, Orvis and Shimano reels. As far as spinning reels, this thing, right out of the box, feels like a really high end reel. It feels so smooth and balanced, the fit and finish is excellent!
I've been looking at the Kastking brand for a while now but not really willing to "take a chance" on some Chinese brand. Then I realized that almost all the top brands are made there anyway, and the 500 was only $23 so I ordered it.
I also love the direct sales model. I get as many things as I can from companies that sell that way, you aren't paying a middle man and everything I get has better quality and performance per dollar than their competitors.......I think Kastking is the same way.
Now, I haven't had the time to spool the reel up yet but I live on a lake so it won't be long before I get some line on it and go for some blue gills off the dock. When I get some time in on the reel I'll check back in and edit this review accordingly. As for now, it looks like this was a great purchase and there will be some baitcasters from Kastking in my very near future!
**update**
After fishing this reel a half dozen times I have a more complete review. I have caught a number of bluegill and red-ear bream as well as a few small bass. It has been a fantastic reel. It has met the expectations I had, this reel is worth twice what it costs and then some. It fits the need for a ultralight reel for out on our lake as well as being tucked into my pack for mountain stream trout fishing! If you're on the fence about the KastKing brand, I would not hesitate any longer! Just order one, go, do it now.
sonlds2002 : Cheap quality with short durability
I bought it for my 8 yr old girl after reading all the positive reviews. The reel stopped working after two fishing excursion. I made sure to wash it off with water after both time since I live in Hawaii and fish in saltwater. I would never buy this brand. It feels like a cheap plastic Chinese stuff.
RandomNerdGuy : Nice small reel
I use this with some light rods to make catching smaller fish more fun. It's a nice, smooth little reel and casts well, doesn't cause me many problems, and as someone who isn't a fan of this style of reels, I like it more than I thought I would.
Definitely a light duty reel, though. Don't try to winch your jeep out of the mud or catch monster catfish with this one.

joseph dimatteo : Great finess UL reel.
I’m really enjoying this reel. I have it paired with a 7’ UL ugly stick Elite. Very smooth. Using 4lb test Fluor. It seems a tad heavy seems well constructed. Maybe slightly off balance with my rod combo and a bit tight where I grip my hand so again that could be my combo choice or design flaw, meaning maybe the reel needs a wider gap between the reel and rod. Great for the price and will buy more and interested in other sizes.
