Questions about SHIMANO NASCI Inshore Spinning Reels
Q:
handle shape
Answer: Like a handle. I would find photos online where you can zoom in to see what you are looking for. I'm not totally sure I understand "handle shape" with no further question or comments. Best of luck.
Q:
I cannot seem to tighten the drag enough to keep line from peeling off the spool. Any ideas ?
Answer: You should be able to tighten the drag by turning the top of the spool clockwise and should tighten to the point where you can't pull the line at all. Counterclockwise to loosen the drag. If that doesn't work pull the spool off and look at the drag parts under the top to see if anything is broken.
Answer: Not sure what your meaning of "peeling off the spool " when is the line coming off the reel during the fighting of a fish? The drag should stop this if you are turning the knob in the correct direction
Answer: This was happening to me and I had to push the spool down onto the reel a little more. The drag is still sort of loose
Answer: If you using braid line, put some mono on first, stops slipping.
Answer: I have over a dozen of these and have never had that problem. Be sure you the spool is all the way down on the reel. Occasionally the spool stops short of dropping all the way down and seating on the reel.
Q:
Is the main body of this reel made of aluminum or is it graphite?
Answer: No the main body is graphite
Answer: Hi Mark D, got this off the internet regarding the NASCI reel. Hybrid bodies are produced from a combination of aluminium and XT7. CI4 is an exclusive material created by the inter-fusion of carbon and polyamide. It is almost as strong as metal with the lightness of a composite. CI4 is used for the body and rotor on many Shimano reels.
Q:
Spooling with braid or composite line ? Use mono only.
Answer: I use 30 lb power pro a braid on both of mine casts and retrieves perfect
Answer: I spooked with braid then a leader of flouro. Haven’t used yet but will soon.
Answer: Just mono
Q:
Would it make a good northern pike reel
Answer: I use it for surf fishing with 12 lb. test mono. It should handle Northerns quite well.
Q:
Is this reel better than the penn battle ii?
Answer: I've used penn and ShimAno for years. And this reel convinced me to switch over to all Shimano. In fact I just bought two new NASCI 4000's. U won't be disappointed. Especially considering their price.
Answer: It is lighter than the battle. Much smoother. The drag system is more responsive. With braided line there is sufficient line for spinning.
Q:
Since Shimano doesn't include a spare spool, does anyone know where I might be able to find one? I like to have one with braid and another with fluoro
Answer: No
Q:
Does the handle screw into the body or does it secure with a cap on the end opposite the handle?
Answer: The threaded handle shank is inserted through the body and tightened with a cap on the opposite side
Answer: Cap on other end
Q:
Los tamaños numericos de shimano son todos estandard? Por ejemplo: un carrete nexavae 4000 es del mismo tamaño que un nasci 4000?
Q:
Can i catch king salmon on a 3000 series.? i already bought it, that’s why i’m asking
Answer: I've hauled in a 4 foot black tip shark and a 40 lb. black drum.
Q:
is this reel a left or right handed or can you switch back and forth
Answer: You can switch right or left
Answer: Hi there! Love this reel! It is capable of being either left or right handed. In fact, just let me know how you want it set, and I can pre-set it for you, if you wish. great choice in reels!
Answer: This is a right hand reel but are also made for lefties.
Answer: SWITCH EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT
Answer: The handle is reversible.
Q:
Is this reel set up for left and right handed retrieve?
Answer: Yes, this reel can be used for left or right-handed retrieve. Have fun!
Answer: Yes..most spinning reels today la design for left and right hand retrieve...
Answer: Yes, you can switch from right to left.
Answer: Interchangeable. Left and right
Answer: Yes it works for left and right retrive
Answer: Both, you can switch eithet side.
Q:
Not sure why this reel hasn't taken off. I'm comparing the the Stradic and other than the bearings, not too much difference. Any opinions?
Answer: I've had the reels for half a year. Had them false albacore fishing for loads of fish and they are fantastic. Zero problems. For $100 I don't think they can be beat. I have Stradics too and other than cosmetics they feel the same at least after a half year. For a hundred dollars they can be replaced instead of repaired like the Stradics. Any major Stradic repairs take loads of time and between shipping and labor and parts usually run a hundred bucks anyway. Long story short I've been thrilled with the Nasci's and am buying the 5000's now as well. Good luck.
Answer: I haven't actually fished it yet, but feels very solid. I'm feelin pretty optimistic. I've heard nothing negative about them. Hopefully shimano won't started inflating the price on them.
Answer: It dosn't work for me, geometry problem, see my review.
Q:
What are the advantages of this reel over the Shimano Sedona FI 4500?
Answer: This is a much smoother reel, much lighter. The extra bearing makes a difference in my opinion.
Answer: You get better gears, drag, and a protective paint.
Q:
Will this work on an ugly stick elite 7’? I plan on using this for freshwater.
Answer: Yes, it will work with it. However, you did not mention the rating on the Ugly Stick. If it's not rated any higher than 17 lbs, it will be fine.
Answer: Sure I don't see why not. I use mine on a 7 foot medium heavy st Croix rod. Works like a champ
Answer: I use mine on a Fitzgerald Stunner HD, 7'1", medium heavy. Works and feels awesome. Very light weight and has stood up to salt water in the flats of Indian River & Mosquito Lagoon.
Q:
Would you go for the 4000 or 3000 serious to catch Spanish Mackerel?
Answer: I've caught Spanish Mackerel on my 4000. I've also brought in 48" black tip sharks and a 40lb. black drum. This is a very versatile reel and I've had mine for years - salt water use only. Make sure you thoroughly rinse after every use.
Answer: I would definitely go for a larger stronger reel..the 4000. Fishing for mackerel can get you a much larger and stronger bi-catch such as king fish ,sharks ect...youll need the additional drag to get them boatside
Answer: 4000
Answer: 3000 is fine
Q:
Can you purchase spare spools for the C3000HG?
Answer: No
Q:
How do you remove the spool on this reel?
Answer: Unscrew the black cap until it's removed, then pull the spool off.
Answer: Unscrew drag dial all the way and pull it off
Answer: Unscrew the drag knob
Q:
What is the shape of the reel handle tip for the nasci 4000xgfb ? is it flat or round or t-shaped?
Answer: the 4000 is t shaped
Answer: It is a flat surface in t shape.
Answer: Tee Shaped.
Answer: Round
Q:
What is nasci?
Answer: NASCI is a spinning reel with a Hagane Gear. It's a great choice for light freshwater to medium saltwater applications. The word NASCI means 'to be born'
Answer: Not sure why named it that but it’s great reel!
Q:
After casting, is it best to close the bail manually by hand, or simply crank the handle to close the bail?
Answer: You can do either, but after a cast your line has a lot of slack. Crank the handle to close the bail and retrieve the slack.
Answer: As Bill Dance once put it, if you use your hand to close the bail, you will stop wearing out the bail spring, and you will stop getting loops at the top of the spool. Easiest way to add years of life to your reel.
Answer: The nice thing is you can do it either way. Almost always we just turn it and start retrieving. In a few cases the spool has rotated so the mechanism is right against the whatever closes the bail internally and it is a little difficult to start cranking so you just kick it over with your thumb. I really don't even think about I just start turning.
Answer: Closeing the bail manually is the preferred method for long feelnlife with any spin caster. Easier on the reel and makes for less tangles as well. However the reel is very capable of closing itself by just winding.
Answer: You can do either but i have always closed the bail by hand on all my reels.
Answer: Always by hand. It will make your reel last a lot longer. And if you are using braid , it will prevent wind knots
Answer: Supposedly, doing research, it's better to use your hand.
Answer: I do. I also give the line a slight pull to snug it up against the spool. Really helps eliminates loops on the spin reel.
Q:
Is it lightweight? Im using 7ft travelling rod will it match?
Answer: Very lightweight and strong! I also have this reel (NASCI3000) paired with a 6'6", 2-piece medium St. Croix spinning rod, and it is a wonderfully balanced setup. This is just a great smooth and strong reel for the price. I have used it for nearly a year and have landed some lunker bass, channel cats and walleye with this combo in my area (south central PA). Should suit your 7 footer well. Highly recommended!
Answer: Definitely lightweight. I have it paired with a 6'6", 2-piece medium power St. Croix, awesome reel. Should suit your needs just fine.
Answer: Plenty light weight for your traveling rod.
Q:
made in which place ?
Answer: It is made in China. Very smooth, casts like a dream.
Answer: The Shimano Nasci reel range is made in the Shimano factory in Malaysia
Answer: My box states "MADE IN MALAYSIA". I am happy with the reel.
Q:
Can this be left hand?
Answer: Reel can be left hand or right hand.
Answer: Yes. I use mine with a left had retrieve.
Answer: Yes
Q:
what color is this reel? blue ands gold? or black and gold?
Answer: black and gold
Answer: It's dark blue and gold in direct sunlight. It looks black most of the time. It has a "metal flake" to it, it's not a flat color.
Answer: Black and gold
Answer: The Nasci is black with gold.
Answer: I thought it was black too but it's very dark blue with blue flake really nice reel
Answer: It's a dark blue. With speckels in the finish. With bronze accent. Very nice smooth perfectly fits a 7ft medium action rod. I'd buy another one
Q:
How much is the weight for the reel in the original box, the total weight for both.
Answer: Look at the description. It will tell you the weight of the reel. Best of luck.
Q:
Is the handle single piece or does it pivot in the middle?
Answer: Sorry, but I returned the reel because it wasn't what I wanted. Good fishing!
Q:
Is there a left hand version of the 3000 model for this reel?
Answer: The handle mounts on either side
Q:
Are the numeric size in all shimanos are standard? i mean is the shimano nexavae 4000 same size as the ashimano nasci 4000?
Answer: In general the 4000 series is the same across reels. I have old stadic 4000 that are essentially the same reel as the nasci-slightly faster but same line capacity.
Answer: I truly can't answer that because both were in a foreign language. However, I would believe they all would translate the same which would mean all the 4000"s are the same.
Answer: Yes. All approximately the same. Spools may vary
Q:
Is it a salt water reel ?
Answer: That's my main use. I have others just like it and have had them for years. The key is flushing the reels with fresh water immediately after use and your reels will last for years. They are awesome surf reels with 12 lb. test line.
Answer: A reel much more suitable for use in the offshore/surf saltwater environment. Corrosion resistance and sealed internals are where the difference comes into play. Shimano's most popular examples are the Spheros and Saragosa. However, I've used my Nasci 4000 and 5000 in surf and "light" offshore with no ill effects. The Nasci is a fine reel at its price point. The 4000 is a great "all-around" choice.
Answer: That is what I use it for, just make sure to rinse in with fresh water after you are done fishing. I use a little furniture polish to get a good wax coating, and the water just beads right off. this reel is really nice for the money.
Answer: Technically no but peeps use them all the time in salt water. Fresh water rinse afterwards. Still operating as smoothly as the day I bought them. Same on my Shimano ultrgras
Answer: It doesn't carry the SW (saltwater) that shimano places on it spinning reels especially designed for fishing exclusively in saltwater. However the reel performs well in saltwater but as with any reel used in saltwater it needs to be properly cleaned with freshwater as soon as possible. I use mine only in saltwater for 2 years no problems what so ever.
Answer: Yes I haved used for Spanish mackerel and is been working just fine
Answer: Yes
Q:
Braid ready?
Answer: I line my spool with waterproof medical tape and have never experienced any slipping of braided line.
Q:
Does this product include an extra line spool
Answer: Did not include an extra spool.
Answer: Not my order
Answer: No it did not
Q:
i want to buy a shimano spinning rod with this reel ,which one you recommend? i'm fishing for spotted sea treout,snapper.ect...
Answer: Browning Medallion GT, 2 piece medium heavy, 12 lb. test. I've brought in a 40 lb. Black drum, sharks up to 36 inches, 4 ft. rays plus an array of sport fish.
Answer: I fish inshore ok the east coast of Florida and I have 2 3000’s and they are AWESOME! It all depends on what you’re looking to catch. For me, this thing has handled large, above slot redfish, snook, and trout. However, if you’re going off-shore you want something bigger than a 4000, which is the largest Nasci. Maybe look at a larger Daiwa BG.
Answer: I use the Nasci 2500 for bass fishing. It is with out doubt the most under valued reel on the market. Reliable, strong, and sealed almost like a salt water reel, the Nasci is a go to piece of equipment. If the 3000 is as beast mode as the 2500, it should be perfect for your mission.
Answer: Nasci is the best for the money. Really good reels. I use them on my charter and never have trouble with them.
Q:
What are the line ratings for this reel? 10/12/14?
Answer: All will work. I use 12 lb. and depending on how tight your drag is set it'll bring in fish well over 20 lbs. I've brought in a 40 lb. black drum and this week a 44 inch black tip shark that walked me over 300 yards before finally landing him. I did lose a tarpon though this week after tail dancing 4 times.
Q:
What reel for med/ hvy spinning rod 3000 or 4000 size
Answer: It depend on what you are catching..? And test pound fishing line you want to use....?
Answer: It was a 4000 with 12 lb. test mono and it's used primarily for surf and pier fishing. Nice and smooth. It's on a 7' medium heavy rod.
Answer: It depends if you are using it for saltwater, or fresh, and the species you normally target. If you are going after bigger fish that tend to swim fast, or little fish with a big fight in them. I would recommend the 4000 to hold more line, or if you use braid, you can use 30lb braid without headaches. or 12lb mono. The 4000 is the most popular Shimano Spinning Reel for surf on the central coast at our store. The guys going for Ling Cod, and topwater burning have chosen the 5000, but I believe the 4000 is plenty for most situations.
Answer: The 4000 or 5000. They have higher max drag and better line retrieval. These reels are awesome I’ve caught big grouper and snapper jigging with the 4000s
Answer: Actually I would go with the 5000 which will allow you to use a little heavier line. I'm basing this on the choice of rod you are matching it to.
Answer: I prefer 4000 size
Q:
What is the shape of the reel handle tip for the NASC3000HGFB? Is it flat or round or "T"-shaped?
Answer: It’s flat
Q:
Does the 4000 have anti reverse ?
Answer: Yes it had anti reverse but you are not able to switch it to reverse though. Easy to switch to left or right hand retrieve though.
Answer: Yes it does have anti reverse, it is a fantastic reel and really great value for money.
Answer: Yes but not one that can be disengaged. There is no lever to allow the handle to spin backwards.
Q:
Is this erroneous information ?: Product detailes (Product dimensions) showed it weighed 0.8 ounces. Should it be read: 8.0 ounces???
Answer: If you would have looked up the specs on this reel you would have found 8.8 oz. listed as the reel's weight.
Q:
I have the 5000 of all of the shimano reels i own. i have an hour glass line lay with this one. i'm using 15 power pro braid. any suggestions please
Answer: I have mono on all my reels, 12lb., currently without much issue. These are all used for surf and pier fishing. I brought a 40 lb. black drum in without the line breaking. I all depends on how you play the fish on the line. I'm not a braid fan. I like the feel and touch with mono.
Answer: Send them back.. my 3000 doesn’t do that.. doesn’t seem right.. manufacture defect..
Product reviews of SHIMANO NASCI Inshore Spinning Reels
Darth Wang : Just one gripe.
The reel is smooth and strong. I use it both 1n fresh and salt water. My only issue is there is no reverse but thats a personal thing and I don't think it's worth removing one star.
good : Five Stars
Love this guy very much... smooth and good quality
Beau : Best there is.
Not a better piece of equipment on the market. The quality is amazing. I own 3 of these.
manwithcash : Geometry problem Nasci 3000 HG
There is a serious problem with the geometry of this this reel. The axis of the reel has been lowered towards the reel seat which will help in casting distance because the open spool is more inline with the center of the guides, so the line spools off more smoothly with less friction on the first guide. But this comes at a price, the angle of the foot where it meets the reels seat is only about 3/4", and it pinches your fingers, and the clearance between the rotor/bail and the reel seat has been reduced to the point where the bail smacks my knuckles on retreive, and I have medium-large sized hands. Whack! It hurt so bad I had to drop the rod the first time it happened. If you have small hands or are a lady with slim fingers, then this reel should work fine for you. But guys with large and above glove size hands will have a big problem. I love the design and operation of the reel, it's a work of art, but the geometry doesn't work. Had to take it back.

Roberto P. : Un ottimo mulinello da spinning-mare. Fluido. Robusto ed affidale in ogni situazione.
Il Nasci con i Sedona e Sahara è decisamente uno dei migliori mulinelli per spinning mare. Rapporto qualità prezzo ottimale. Peccato solo pet la mancanza della bobina di scorta. Estremamente fluido.

Patrick : Best reel for $100 without question
I spent weeks and weeks making a decision on this reel. In the end in comparing it to the Shimano Stradic and Penn Clash which are both excellent reels. I live in coastal Carolina and in this area most guides and my friends all have Shimano as do. I could not make the turn to buy a Penn simply based on my experiences. Focusing on the Stradic, both reels are very smooth. I have to give the edge to the Stradic based on the number of ball bearings in the Stradic. Both reels are light but in the 3000 size, I didn't let an ounce and half difference between the two make the decision for me. Line capacity, exact same. drag tension exactly the same, warranty, the same. Balance, I give to the Stradic again but only slightly. My issue with the Shimano line of $250 and below is they all corrode, pit and some parts turn green in saltwater usage. They may or may not still work at 100% but in a few short years they look like crap. My decision to buy this reel was based on this problem. I needed two reels so a difference in price of $160 for the Stradic, just could not justify the extra expense based on my observations of the two reels. To bring back a reel cosmetically with buying parts from Shimano, it will cost you half of what it originally cost if,,, and only if your bail mechanism still works properly which in most cases, it won’t. The point is, probably have to replace a reel every four to five years so, they are disposable. I paired this reel with a Teramar 7'6" medium light rod and it is a work of art. It is perfectly balanced, light and color coordinated. The dark blue metal flake on the reel matches the darker blue in the rods. Caught a bunch of sea trout this last weekend and the combination not only performed flawlessly, it was a blast reeling in (and releasing) 15 to 18 inch trout. Perfect combination for light inshore fishing in coastal Carolina. BTW, this replaces the Symetre line from Shimano
Jacky : This reel is amazing for such an affordable price
Quick shipping. This reel is amazing for such an affordable price. It's worth every penny. Reminds me of a Stradic but just cheaper. Very smooth. Whoever buys one of these will enjoy it.
dude : Five Stars
So far these reels seem to be a great bang for the buck. Smooth and a nice drag.
Mantas Kutka : Schönheit!!
Bin mehr als positiv überrascht. Verarbeitung ist top und optisch macht es was her. Das Glitzern im Sonnenlicht fällt direkt ins Auge.
Amazon Customer : Great on the flats.
Excellent reel for the flats. Super smooth drag that handles big reds and snook flawlessly. Paired it with a Gander Mountain Tournmanet mediam-heavy rod.
Marcel : Eine super Rolle

Good service. Thx
hari : Naschi Reel Is Awesome
The reel Performance is almost Equal to Shimano Stradic 4000xgm, good one
Kenneth M Hatch : Smooooooth!
Just works great, feels very smooth good quality.
Thomas Y. : Very smooth real. Great for the price.
I loved how they moved the reel closer to the pole as to increase casting distance. I paired mine with an Abu Garcia Vendetta 2.0 and I loved every cast. I put about 100 yards of 30 pound clear spider wire braid it it performed perfectly. I mainly use this reel for topwater fishing.
Scouting4reds : Just not right
I was not impressed. Buy Shimano reels exclusively. Reel was set up with line coned towards the top, which I don't like. Tightened down the handle and had to keep tightening it. There was some sort of rubbing or something when I reeled in my lure. It was not smooth and felt some sort of resistance. It just wasn't right. Returned it and got the Stradic 3000HGFK.
