Those who own this baitcaster.....do you find the aluminum main gear to be a weak point over a brass gear?

Answer: Not for what the real is intended for. Very strong gear, as I have been snagged several times and put this reel under very unusual strain on gear with no issue.

Answer: Aluminium maingear is always going to be a weak point. Are you relying on this particular reel to feed your family? Probably not a great investment. Going bass fishing with an extra reel? great option.

Answer: As soft as aluminum is, even if it is some type of hardened alum. alloy, I chose not to purchase this reel when I read that. Stay with brass gears for longevity.

When you read these reviews, you can see all kinds of people claiming to be pros, but clearly have no idea in the world what thry are doing. First off, there are only 4 actual pros in the US that use kasktking. 2 in MLF, 1 in Bassmaster Elite series, and 1 in FLW pro. They ALL use the bassinator or speed demon pro.
Just to show how goofy some of the prople in comments are and how they are in way qualified to say they are pro or fish for a living, or fish tournaments: You got one guy that says he strung it up with 10 lb mono. Im sorry dude, but if you are a serious fisherman you are not using mono for anything but huge swimbaits which you wouldnt be throwing on this reel. You would be using straight braid, braid to a fluoro or mono leader, or most likely about 15-20lb straight fluorocarbon. Why? Because mono stretches like crazy, is not sensitive, and 10 lb line is super light for anything but a spinning reel. Any serious fisher is not gonna use line that thin and risk breaking off setting the hook on a big fish or fighting a big fish.
Lets see, you got another guy saying he put a bobber on the line for steelhead fishing. So many things wrong with that statement I cant even begin cuz Im laughing so hard. First off, who uses a bobber other than my 5 year old daughter and my grandma. For crappie fishing with a light spinning reel maybe. If you’re using live bait or something, you dont throw it on a baitcaster, especially not a bass caster, maybe a big game baitcaster or ocean baitcaster.
The reason kastking came out with this reel is because the original with the synthetic frame was flexing and breaking when used for flipping or punching or frogging. I got a chance to play with one at the classic, and it was nice. Felt good in the hand, casted well, grips felt good, etc. It seems to be quality, but you have to use them for about a whole season, cuz thats when most kastking reels start falling apart. Gears start grinding, worm gears break, button engages mid cast and bait and weight come flying back at your face. Theres nothing they changed with the internals that makes me think this would be any better than the original over the long term. I wouldnt buy one, even after feeling how nice it worked. I had two higher end kastkings (around $100 a piece) at my florida condo for bass fishing when on vacation because I didnt want to drop $300-400 on a daiwa or shimano setup I really liked. At first they worked amazing and I couldnt believe the value I had gotten. But after maybe 3 florida trips and using them maybe 10-15 times each, they started falling apart. I have some experience taking baitcasters apart because Ive installed spool speed bearings on my daiwas and stuff before. I opened one up, and saw a tooth had broke off the main gear, and saw the quality of the flimsy plastic parts inside, and then I understood. So Im just saying, buyer beware.

I purchased this reel to replace an older Shimano reel I had and WOW! This reel is smooth as butter. Its well built and looks great. I haven't tested it out on the water yet, but will update my review when I do. So if your on the fence about ordering this reel, go for it. I fish for a living and have found an incredible reel at a fantastic price! I received the reel in a very elegant jewelry like box which surprised me a bit. Then the look of the reel was like a jewel, beautiful! Gears are precision made, smooth as silk, casts a mile (10Lbs test) and is, so far, handling all I can give it. After catching some large sea trout and redfish, this reel seems to hold up well in saltwater, which I'm not even sure its designed for. Got the reel for brackish River fishing. I have paid twice as much for reels that have less quality and features, than this Crixus ArmorX reel. The features I like most are, the smooth strong drag, magnetic brake and the extremely fast retrieve of over 7 to 1 ratio. This is my second KastKing reel and the first is used on a Sabiki rig for catching live bait. So far both are the best quality new reels for my money and money counts. I will leave a review after a year, to see how it does over time. I plan on adding more KastKing reels to my charters.
Hopefully, I can find larger KastKing reels for Deep drop rigs offshore.

I would buy this caster if you 1) like casting half the distance of any much cheaper caster 2) appreciate a backlash every cast 3) like poor quality and want it to look 6 years old after you first trip out. Seriously this thing is absolutely trash, the handle rattles like crazy and I’ve had it a month. I don’t even trust it to reel in something small. Save your money or buy something that isn’t from a no name company. Their braid is awful as well.
