what is the "super stopper" feature. Because the 1000 I just got spins freely in the reverse direction from just the handle weight

Answer: "super stopper" is the anti-reverse, meaning it's an instant anti-reverse. The reels ship with the switch off, but just turn it on and it will only spin one way. If you've ever used a really cheap spincast reel, the anti-reverse kicks in after maybe 1/4 turn of the handle, whereas this can go forward ONLY (when the switch is engaged).

I fish both Browns and Rainbows. When I use jigs Pond Smelt perform well here in No. CA Sierra lake near home.

Answer: I wouldn't be caught dead using a Fenwick rod but if you want a decent all around 500 series shimano on the cheap without having to spend over 50 bucks, this is a good choice.

Answer: 10 pound braid comes in different diameters so it’s very hard to say. I just load my reels up to about an 8th inch below the lip so that the the line goes out smoothly. If you specify the exact type of braid and pound test you are using and the diameter then it should be very easy to calculate by going to the Shimano website because they have all those details.

Bought this reel for my walleye rod, I’ve used it for vertical jigging as well as casting. I have not one complaint about this reel. I was skeptical for $40, I was between this one and the Shimano Sahara. Great reel for the money, it’s smooth, the line comes off the bail well without snagging. I’m impressed and happy.

I have been using Shimano reels for the past 25 years and have always been satisfied, except for this particular reel. I bought this reel twice within two years, and they worked fine for a few months. Then, after casting, I had to manually flip the bail arm back over the reel. I thought this was a defect on my first purchase since the bail arm on all my older Shimano reels never stopped flipping back automatically. So, I purchased this same reel for the second time and had the same problem, so I do not plan on purchasing this particular Shimano reel again.

Reel is a bit smaller then I expect wish I had gotten a size larger but will do, so it gets high marks in the light weight category. First thing that bothers me is the handle on the reel I received is not the one in the display picture. Mine came with the old standard hard plastic T handle I wanted the handle in the picture that was one of the deciding factors on this reel. Also when I took the spool off to tie on line I noticed there is a plastic gear under the spool, I am a bit concerned about this as all the gears I’ve seen on other reels are metal. But only time will fully tell.

Mike Snow : There is a lot of value here (500 and 1000 series)

First, make sure you're looking at the FG, not the FE series (the FE in the 1000 had 1+1 bearings, the FG has 3+1). It's super smooth out of the package and I have no issues at all with the 1000 and 500 series reels that I have. The max drag on these smaller reels isn't as high as some others, but I don't need more than 4 pound drag with 4 pound line :). I haven't tried anything larger than the 1000 size, so I can't comment on the larger reels.

The one thing to mention is that the line roller has a bushing and not a ball bearing under it (but that's not counted in the bearing number).
