Questions about SeaKnight Rapid Saltwater Spinning Reel, 4.7:1,6.2:1 High Speed, Max Drag 33Lbs, Smooth Fresh and Saltwater Fishing Reel
Q:
I want to purchase the 5000. I didnt see in the decription how many yards per test line this reel holds. Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks
Answer: I spooled the 6000 with 330 yds. of 20lb. braided line. You can get an idea from this information how much the 5000 will hold.
Answer: typical mono would be 150 meters of 20lb test, 190 m of 15 lb test and 250 of 12lb,,, give or take a bit, lines like trilene big game are a bit thicker, and copolomer lines are a bit thinner
Answer: Here you go:
Answer: It will hold 300 hundred yrs of 30 lbs of braid
Answer: It's actually in one of the pictures .35-250yrds look at the last picture.
Q:
can the 5000 handle 30 lb monofilament line?
Answer: I bought the 4000. Its rated for up to 35 mm or about 12 lbs mono.
Answer: I’m not sure, my guess would b yes. I put 200 yards of 17lb test on mine. So if you put 30lb line on it, it would prob hold 100 yards
Answer: YES. The line sizes on reels are a spooling length guide, not a "rating". You can certainly put it on there just remember you won't get as much on there.
Answer: Yes, I just put 30lbs monofilament on mine, works great!
Answer: Yes ,It's can
Q:
Ayone w/ this problem? Spooled w/ 30lb braid and it's tapered toward the top of the spool, also only took 2/3 the .25mm total stated on the 4000 size
Answer: Never had that problem. I always use backing so the braid doesn't slip, i have 5 of these and havent had one single issue
Answer: Have to take the spool off and remove one of the red spacers at the bottom of the spool shaft, that will solve the problem.
Answer: Never had that problem. I would recommend backing the line on the spool. Should reduce that problem. I have used this reel to catch over 60 Redfish in Texas. I own three. My guests on my boat prefer this reel over My other so called premier reels.
Answer: I had the same problem and couldn’t figure it out because I checked with an identical reel and nothing was off by my measure.
Answer: Those sea knight brand are no good send it back for a refund and get kast king emerald eagle ,also if you try to email sea knight they honestly dont care that sea knight company does not stand behind its product i would never order from them again their internal gears are garbage send it back not worth it in the long run
Answer: You need to add a washer to the spindle under the spool
Q:
is this all metal body reel ?
Q:
Order reel that was in stock a week ago. website stated delivery by 6/10/21. had to cancel order reel hasn't been shipped yet from china.why?
Q:
So where in the package are the washers the instructions show you need to add to get the line to spool evenly?
Answer: I use 12lb mono and just don't have that problem! I do keep alot of pressure on line when spooling.
Q:
Where is the reel manufactured?
Answer: China.
Q:
How many turns to loosen or tighten the drag looking or a quick drag reel?
Answer: There is no accurate answer. It is dependent on how the drag is initially set.
Answer: Depends on how tight or loose you want your drag. Usually I can turn mind a couple of times to desired pressure.
Q:
Where can I get some washers to fix the line lay? Any specific size I should be looking for?
Q:
I found a white washer in the shipping box. Does anyone know what it is for?
Answer: There's a parts list integral with the instructions for use. Check that for your washer.
Q:
What would be good for a 9ft rod?
Answer: I use this on an 8’ rod with 10lb braid. It works fine for me. Catching specs and reds.
Q:
How to purchase power handle for rapid 4000?
Q:
Hello- Can you remove the large handle / knob?. i am not sure if i would like that- Thank you for your help-
Answer: You could swap the whole handle if you could find another one to match. Other than that you might be able to cut the foam down but I’m not sure what’s inside there. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about the handle either but turns out I like it. I’m reeling fast for Spanish mackerel and feel the big handle helps give me better control.
Answer: The instructions with the reel advise how to change from left hander to right hander winding. When the reel is received, the handle is not on the reel and must be assembled. When mine arrived, the nut which holds the handle to the reel was missing so Amazon said to return the reel. Another was sent which included the nut. It seems unlikely that you can find a different handle, with a smaller know, to fit the reel.
Answer: I don't think it will but if you don't like the big knob, you should get the 3000 series.
Answer: You can but why would you? Personally I think that’s one of the reels best features.
Q:
Does the 2500 model (or any of them) have an anti reverse switch to be able to reel backwards?
Answer: yes, the 2000 model I have has a reverse/lock switch so you can reel backwards or lock it to forwards only.
Answer: Not that I have used with my fishing expedition
Q:
Would anyone say rather the size reel you got is comparable in size to other brands in that same size?
Q:
What material are frame, sideplate(s), and rotor?
Answer: They are all stainless steel. This is a very nice reel.
Q:
Where can i get a new drag knob for the rapid 3000h?
Answer: We can provide you with new drag knob. But need to ship it to you from China.
Q:
What would be a good rod for salmon fishing to march with this reel
Answer: Yes,you can use this reel, and the rod you can use our yasha fishing rod.
Q:
how do you change hand? It is NOT exchangeable
Answer:
Answer: Unscrew the small nut, remove handle , place handle shaft in the other side, screw in nut hand tight tight . Now you have a left hand reel. Some people hold these spinning reels upside down or what they think is right side up. The reel should hang down when you cast and use it . If your right handed hold the pole with your right hand and reel in with the left.
Answer: Just like any spinning reel. Unscrew plate on opposite side of body from handle. Remove handle on stem. Insert in opposite side and screw plate on opposite end.
Answer: Undue nurled knob opposite the handle. Swap handle to other side and tightin the burled.knob
Q:
Is the handle really bad?
Answer: No, I do wish that the handle shaft was a bit tighter than it is but I assume that you need to pay another $50 for a reel that is like that the phone knob that you hold onto is very comfortable and is equal to many more expensive reels you may purchase. But do understand that the shaft coming from The Reel handle does have a bit of play in it.
Answer: No I like it. This is a very good reel, lots of drag.
Answer: I never received the reel.
Q:
Will it work on a 15 foot rod
Answer: This will fit any rod with a standard reel atrachment.
Q:
Is there a reverse on the 6000?
Answer: Yes,there is a small reverse switch on the bottom, offering easy accessibility
Answer: Yes
Q:
How much Monofilamint will the 6000 hold
Answer: The Rapid 6000 model Line Capacity(mm-M): 0.35-325 0.40-250 0.45-195
Answer: You should look at the pictures one of them has the specs for line requirements. Its not an easy find if your not looking for it.
Answer: Don't really know. It was for my brother and he use's only braided line. sorry
Q:
What is the body made of
Answer: The SeaKnight Rapid frame is actually a high strength plastic. It has an extra durable stainless steel main shaft, aluminum alloy drive gear, CNC aluminum spool and many high end components at a great.
Answer: Idk but the drag knob strips way to easy
Q:
What pound test does it take
Answer: 2o lb braid
Q:
how many yards of monofilament ?
Answer: I easily put on 150 yards of 12 pound. Depends on what test rating line you wanna use.
Answer: Depends on the reel and the line size....
Answer: not a salt water reel
Q:
I need a drag knob for a rapid 6000
Answer: The company didn't respond to my requests for parts. It was within my 30 day return window, I returned mine.

Q:
Again, does the 2500 (or any of the models) have the flipper switch for anti reverse which allows you to reel backward?
Answer: Yes it does,
Q:
Does this soft eva handle better than hard rubber handle?
Answer: This depends on what each individual fisherman would say regarding the question. I happen to like the soft handle and am very satisfied with the overall performance of the reel. It is a very good buy.
Answer: I like the hard handles. But these are pretty good
Q:
Where can i buy an extra spool?
Q:

Answer: Have not had that problem.
Q:
the large gear that turns the main shaft is a black color and in the picture it looks like plastic -- does anyone know what it is made of?
Answer: I do not see any plastic parts in the body of the reel. The part you are referring to is metal with a gray coating. I used it once and it has a very smooth action.
Answer: The gear is made of aluminum alloy, not plastic.
Answer: The gear is an aluminum alloy, and is coated so it has a dark cast to it. Thanks!
Q:
Ship to so cal shows around oct 21-22... thats when i get the item? nearly 1 month later??
Answer: no
Q:
Ordered March 9th and i swear it included a spare spool?? I saw another person ask the same. Spare spool?
Answer: The Rapid spinning fishing reel does not include a spare spool.
Answer: No spare spool
Q:
Has anyone else that purchased this reel found that the handle was jiggly/loose even after tightening down all the way?
Answer: I have the 5000 size. Reel is smooth, but the they have an issue with their handles. The handle on mine is flopping after tightening down also. Little wear and it will break for sure. They must have zero Quality Control, They should have caught this problem. I am sure getting a Correct replacement would be frustrating. When it breaks, in the trash I guess.
Answer: I haven't had any issues with this reel. I fish it in fresh and brackish water and it has performed very well for me.

Answer: I fish hard living on gulf! This reel will make you very happy. Sealed gears and ready for any size fish. (BUY ONE) 3000 IS WHAT I HAVE.
Answer: Broke on first takeout.. was river fishing on the bank.. its made of plastic
Answer: had it for 8 months and it rusted so that it was inoperable and since it was more than 6 months, i had to absorb the lost
Q:
Does the 6000 take 30lb test line
Answer: it certainly will take 30# briad, yes, and heavier if you wish.
Q:
Does max drag represent the heaviest fish it can handle?
Answer: Max drag is the tension you adjust it to tire the fish out in case you have light line and you dont want a break off you tire the fish out with the drag then once its tired enough reel that monster in for a pic have a blessed one
Q:

Product reviews of SeaKnight Rapid Saltwater Spinning Reel, 4.7:1,6.2:1 High Speed, Max Drag 33Lbs, Smooth Fresh and Saltwater Fishing Reel
Amazon Customer : one year
this reel is replacing the shimanos in my boat, good retrieve speed and spooling
Pig hunter!!!!! : Saltwater reel
Used for 4 days inshore fishing on Texas coast. Rinsed it after every use and it's still working well.
A.H. : So far, so good!
Held up well catching decent size surf perch in strong beach currents. We'll see how it holds up when striper season hits.
Clecy C. : Drag needed correcting!
When I first got the real ( 6000) the drag didn't work...it was the same regardless of the setting...if I caught a fish bigger than 2 lbs, it wouldn't reel it in..I took it apart and the carbon fiber disc's were install in the wrong order ( three washers and three disc's) once I got them in the right sequence/order, the drag works perfect...I absolutely love the reel now...so glad I didn't return it...I gave 4 stars because of quality control being lacking! Hope this helps if the same thing happens to you!
Juan Carlos Medina : USED TWICE AN BROKE
Looks good but I used twice and the pickup mechanism broke a waste of $50 some dollars
JKAPGA68 : Cheaply made.. Non-functional Drag..
Drag was locked up.. The drag is very cheaply made.. Drag would work for about 2ft then completely lockup.. Even on lowest setting it would lockup.. Reel looks great but would not function.. Sent back for refund..
Amy : Great reel for the price!!!
I don’t use a spinning reel much here in Louisiana but decided to get a drop shot rig and this little reel was the ticket. Very smooth and sturdy construction.
michael : Would not recommend.
Purchased for a trip to FL. Lined the spool, cast it out, caught a stingray and the gears were skipping the whole time while bringing it in. Took it off my rod immediately after and had to go buy another reel locally. Do not suggest this reel if you are surf fishing. Garbage out of the box.
Kuhn Dog : Rapid 6000: Impressive
Just added the Rapid 6000 to my saltwater arsenal. Out of the box the quality was impressive, felt strong, durable and smooth. I paried it with my 8’ Penn Power Stick for fishing ocean jetties and bridges. The things I like most about the reel. 1st line capacity (50lb braid) it hold almost double than the Okuma I’m replacing it with. 2nd the knob, it feels so smooth and fluent. 3rd the weight, it’s light enough to cast all day. This reel gets my approval and you can’t beat the price!
I plan on putting it to the test for some Tog, Sheepshead, Flounder, Reds and Cobia this summer. I’ll let you know how it stands up to the test.
Amazon Customer : Excellent reel for the money
Excellent reel for the money, matched it with a Shimano FX. Lots of fun catching Blues and Stripers here in New England. My knob was deformed, i didn't care, I called it "Character". I would like to pick up the bigger models once SeaKnight increses the gearing ratios. I beat on my fishing gear, so I'll do a follow up on how this reel is holding up. May be I'll get some extra ones for Christmas. SeaKnight, if you decide to offer an extra spool at the point of sale, send the same spool. other companies are sending, plastic ones. And that is a real turn off.
Amazon Customer : Not strong.
Broke on my second use. I was only using 20lb. test line...the line didn't break, but the reel did. I got the fish on the boat...it was a 4lb Bonito. The reel should not have failed before the line did. The shaft is made of plastic!!!
Amazon Customer : one year
this reel is replacing the shimanos in my boat, good retrieve speed and spooling
RD : Looks good but POOR quality
The first trip out with this reel and the first fish large enough to pull out drag and the internals of the reel cracked and could no longer turn. This reel looks great bit the internals are soft and break very easily.
Lorenzo : Not recommended....cheap quality.
Not what I had expected. Very cheap quality.
Elizabeth LaBaren-Root : PLASTIC CHINA JUNK!
This reel broke in the first hour of use and the company (from China) will not do nothing if you have a problem. They sent me an email saying "It does not represent the quality of all our products, and it is a special case." and then went on to tell me that they do not replace even if they sent you a junk reel. Do NOT waste you money on their prodcuts.
Matt : Probably the best spinner I own
So I purchased this reel after reading many good and some bad reviews... The reel performs great, as good as reels that are 3x the price! I used it to catch about 100 porgies and bass, a dozen striped bass and a couple of bluefish. The finish is real good and everything feels top notch. The drag performed wonderfully when catching bass and blues in montauk. I spooled it up with some mono backer and then 20lb. Power pro braid. The braid cost almost as much as the reel. For those reviews that are negative, I can't imagine that we are talking about the same reel, maybe they had misused or banged their reels causing the problems they found. I have recommended the reel already and will probably buy additional. A saltwater reel of this quality, and for the price it is a super bargain.
Geo : Nice reel for the money. Review after 1st week using reel. Updated, best sub $40 reel out there..
My first 2 reviews deleted due to 100 character limit UPDATE....I have upgraded my rating. Have been using this sub 40$ reel for couple months now. Not kidding, paired with my Gator tail, its my go to all around salt water rig. Still is smooth as glass. I really dont believe it myself, but thinking of pairing a new one with a St Croix MOJO 9 ft MM Fast. Think it would be a perfect rig. UPDATE... I own two of these. I admit i have changed my surf fishing rig to Bait Runners. But both reels i own work perfect. Advice. if you are not a person that can trouble shoot an issue with a fishing reel. Buy a 150$ reel. if you spend less, might need some work on your end. I have read negative reviews on this product. If you cant check proper drag washer order. Very common issue with lower priced reels. Dont buy one. I have pushed these reels to the point I believed it would break, burn up drag. And still works. Pictures i posted are reel...lol Funny right....You not gonna get Shamino Saragosa feel at $40. Update. 5/2021 I now own 2 Sea Knight 6000 reals. If Sea Knight made a 6000 bait runner. Shamino would be in trouble. Both show ZERO corrosion. Work and look new. One a little smother than other. This is the reel that I keep in my truck on 6ft pole 24/7. Works perfect. My opinion, its the best non Bait Runner sub 40$ reel on market. HEY SEA KNIGHT / MAKE A BAIT RUNNER / WILL OWN MARKIT. G
Amazon Customer : Great reel at a great price.
This latest purchase in reels was a great find. Not only does it hold a all the line I need, it is one of the smoothest reels I've ever owned. Check it out for yourself!!!
KrazyFish : LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!!
Was beautiful coming out the box BUT when I used it , the the whole spool flew off while casting, got it back but Lost the top.THEN bought another one and was pier fishing dropline, leaning over pole upside down and THE ENTIRE SPOOL and drag top fell off into the ocean!!! Do NOT BUY THIS REEL!!!!
dhyslop : Worst than expected
I bought this reel in 6000 size and the seaknight Axe 4000, I like this one more than the axe. Great reel, good quality and seller, Carbontex drag, smooth, light, sturdy graphite body, definitely not plastic, you have to do something silly in order to break it, like some reviews I have read here. If you regulate the drag correctly you should never break it.
I'm beginning to like this seaknight brand, I already have 2 reels and 2 rods, I'm going to buy at least 2 rods more.
I'm downgrading this review to 1 star, I just realized how awful is this reels's quality, look at the video. I didn't noticed the problem I have with the handle until yesterday that Intried to spool some line.
Russ : the Rapid 6000 delivers everything in a reel that for me out cast all of my reel.
I like everything.I fish in the bay and caught some 20 pound Reds. The drag was smooth.Great reel for the price.
jujube guy : Caught 20+ inch reds
I haven't latched on to a large bull red or drum yet but it seems to handle 20+ inch reds and Spanish mackerel. I recommend using a thinner line such as spider line with this reel. It loses some casting length with bulky lines.
Pig hunter!!!!! : Saltwater reel
Used for 4 days inshore fishing on Texas coast. Rinsed it after every use and it's still working well.
Amazon Customer : Works great
I use it for surf fishing a lot and it keeps on working well. Just be sure to keep it rinsed and oiled!!
Nick Mazza : Used in brackish water
Great reel for my application. Nice looking and is pretty powerful. I haven't had any issues and enjoy the feel of this reel.
Matt : Probably the best spinner I own
So I purchased this reel after reading many good and some bad reviews... The reel performs great, as good as reels that are 3x the price! Papi G : Company doesn't respond
Update 2. I emailed the manufacturer, using the email from the instruction sheet, no response. I also not the web site is not active.
All I need is this little part....
At this point, I recommend not buying as the company cannot be found to support the product.
An update, I have bought 2 of these reels.
The first day I used one reel I lost the "handle cap", part 73. See picture.
If Seaknight fishing is reading this, please respond on how to obtain this part. This small part is necessary to use the product.
Otherwise the reel performed well. I have loaded 14lb line to the reel.
I note that the "knob" or handle of the crank is large, and actually felt to large and awkward in my hand as I loaded the line.
I note that I am not a small guy, have large hands and wear size XL gloves.
I will report further after use, but for now, I am not happy at all with this specific feature.
Cathy : Nice product
Husband loves reel fir his Florida fishing.
patrick allen : Great Value!
Great reel for the money,I spooled up with 25# braided line on the 5000 series.I fished the Gulf of Mexico easily handled Mangrove snapper,Hog fish and didn’t burn up when a shark took 100 yards of line before it broke off.Im satisfied!
Elizabeth LaBaren-Root : PLASTIC CHINA JUNK!

Kaydee : Good value for the money
Works great. Has a round knob on the handle which makes it easier to turn.. The only problem is the loud noise it makes when reeling in the line. Good value.
Ryan M. Hoover : Great value
I wanted a faster reel for casting to Spanish macs. This did the trick. Can’t beat the price! And the build quality is very satisfactory too. I’ll see how long it lasts against the salt and fast fish.
Lorenzo : Not recommended....cheap quality.
Not what I had expected. Very cheap quality.
mike : BROKE FIRST TIME USING
HANDLE & SHAFT WEAK, WOBBLES - ONLY GOOD FOR MACKERAL OR SMALL FISH. LOOKS NICE BUT STICK WITH PENN OR DIAWA.
Deanna Marshall : Smooth, solid construction
Just received this reel and I am pleasantly surprised. I am normally a fan of 13 fishing and Lew's reels and after my mach 2 bit the dust I set out looking for a reel that wouldn't break the bank and wouldn't rust the bearings if a drop of water splashed on it (like the lews). This definitely fits the bill. Since it's saltwater rated, it's going on my favorite inshore rod. The reel feels very solidly built. No play in the spool, rotor or handle. The infinite anti-reverse works flawlessly and the reel is SMOOTH. It is also important to not that the reel is relatively light without feeling cheap. My only critique would be that I'm not a huge fan of the EVA handle knob. I would have preferred a rubberized or winn grip style knob. That said, In this price range, you'll be hard pressed to find a better value with this level of quality. Looking forward to getting this reel on the water. Will update review once I get a few casts on it.
michael : Would not recommend.
Purchased for a trip to FL. Lined the spool, cast it out, caught a stingray and the gears were skipping the whole time while bringing it in. Took it off my rod immediately after and had to go buy another reel locally. Do not suggest this reel if you are surf fishing. Garbage out of the box.
Great affordable strong beautiful spinning reel ive had it for almost 2years still strong and i do alot of fishing and im pretty rough on my reels but this reel and my uglystick international beautiful ive pulled tons of pike, bass, pickeral ,catfish, and still going strong,,,UPDATE the reel and the brand SK fishing does not take pride in what their selling to the customer this is my last time recommending or purchasing anything from this seller ,,we the people look when purchasing product of this nature we look for a brand that is reputable and honorable that stand behind their product with pride!!! Buyer BEWARE!
Salt runner team : Build to cheap
This items was excellent in the first 3 months and then the handle to turn the reel to bring the line in damage and one of the reel part that hold the line snapped in a corner .
Mouse : Lasted just a few fishing trips
I only used this reel a handful of times before it locked up and broke beyond repair. And of course I had a fish on with maybe 100yards of line out when it happened.
First it was just stuck solid. Then after a little tapping and wiggling the handle it would turn, but with a lot of resistance. Then I felt the snap. I knew half the teeth must have come off a gear because it would reel smooth, then slip, reel, then slip. I lost the fish, limped through reeling in all that line and my fishing day was over.
To satisfy my curiosity I opened it up, and sure enough half the teeth had sheered right off that main gear. There was no sand, dirt or rust. Everything looked well lubricated. Something internal simply got jammed.
I've bought dozens of cheap reels and even the worst ones are at least functional for years. I'd only had this one a couple months, maybe half a dozen fishing trips and it's completely broken.
Patrik B. : Awesome reel for the price
From the minute you take it out of the box, This reel is top notch. It comes with a protective bag for storage and carrying. The body is very nice and sturdy as well as lightweight. The ball bearings are smooth right out of the box, and it's casts a mile. Also has a very sleek streamline look that will fit in any rod scheme.
Jeff on a Florida Beach : Beware of Wasted Time >>> Returned
Don't waste your time on this reel. I read review after review claiming the merits of the SeaKnight prior to selecting for purchase. "Great value, performs as good or better than name brand Sh reels costing much more". You get what you pay for.
I had 20lb braid added by a local fishing store. I typically underfill a spool by 1/16 inch to avoid self spooling. Before taking to Mosquito Lagoon I made some test casts on land. After a few casts I notice line building up on the same spot on spool. After nearly an hour of trying to determine the cause I decide to check the instructions. To my dismay I find instructions to add washers to center shaft to avoid or correct the very problem I was having. Searching box I find no washers. Seriously. SeaKnight wants the Customer to buy parts to make their product function properly.
I expect an item I purchased to work correctly out of the box. So this reel is going back in the box and back to Amazon.
Nick Mazza : Used in brackish water
Great reel for my application. Nice looking and is pretty powerful. I haven't had any issues and enjoy the feel of this reel.
Rick : Nice fit & finish
Really nice looking reel. All parts fit together nicely with uniform seams. Appears to hold ~250 yards of braided 20# test line. Bail release is a bit tougher then I like. You may have to reach down & release it by hand after a cast.
Nicholas Forsythe : Great Reel!
Great reel. Clean bail flip, solid anti-reverse, very smooth. Well designed and super comfortable power handle. I would buy this again and reccomend it for any medium heavy setup for catfish or even braid for fishing tough cover.
J J : Good reel for money
Work nice and smooth so far
Wanchai : Best reel for the price
Love my SeaKnight rapid spinning reels , great for the ocean , ive caught many big size Perch from the ocean with this reel , very smooth and light weight
Harry : A great reel for the money!!
I’ve used my Rapid 3000 now for three short outings. First impressions. I’ve spooled it initially with SeaKnight 8 lb blue Monster Blade mono. Mono isn’t my first choice anymore, but it’s what I grew up using. So far, the reel performs about Equal to my NASCI which costs twice as much. It’s smooth when reeling, and is really well balanced on my new custom 7’ SRFC Walden rod. Here are 2 of the 3 pond bass I caught today, flipping with a 4” Senko and a dragin’ head jig. I recommend this reel and the blade line.
