could a 12 foot rod pair well this this?

Answer: I would not recommend a 12 foot rod for either of these reels, the Zata 20 or 30. The reels are very light in weight, but are strong. A 12 foot surf rod needs a bigger reel.

What style is best for fresh and salt water ?

Answer: The blue highlighted reels are for saltwater. Corrosion proof. The red highlighted reels are for freshwater

would this be good for catfish?

Answer: I would buy the 40 size for catfish

Is this item used for salt water? fresh water striper, speckled trout, flounder, size 40? what would be the max braided line?

Answer: this is a saltwater reel. it has stainless bearings but can be used in freshwater of course.

Answer: Freshwater. And I haven’t used it yet. But, love how if feels.

Answer: Don’t know. I’ll be doing fresh water only

Answer: Yes, it is an excellent reel for panfish. get the Zata 20 and an ultra lite 5-6 foot rod and you will be in heaven.

Would this reel be good for trout fishing? I’m looking to pair up a reel with my St Croix rod.

Answer: I have two Zata spinning reels. My bass rod is a Zata 30 reel on a seven foot rod and that set up would be great for fishing lake trout, or even steel heads. My trout rod I use mostly for brookies, rainbow and brown trout. That set up is a 5 1/2 foot rod with the zata 20. The shorter rod is good for working small streams. These reels are great reels and the action is as smooth as silk. There is no reverse button, but to help eliminate backlash, the reel stops dead when the winding stops. Shop around and you can find these reels well under $200.00

Molly M. Morgan : A new reel on an old rod…

My uncle gave me his prized 2-piece Abu Garcia rod over 25 years ago, and it’s been laying dormant for the past decade. After a lot of research, I was pleased to hear about the Zata line of reels. A couple of weeks ago, I paired them, and it’s been a fantastic kit. I couldn’t be more happy with the performance. Abu Garcia is a great company of high quality products and great service, and I’m a proud owner.

Size 20. Not a smooth reel at all. The gears would grind and hang up on the retrieve. The more drag on the line and lure moving through the water, the worse the grinding got. Come on Abu, your quality is dropping off a cliff. Get out of china and build the brand back to where it should be. Extremely disappointing.

I would not use this in salt water. Smooth operation has a issue in the stop maybe needs more bearings. Nice reel love the color, paid 122 for it cannot see that and is overpriced at 174, this is my first and maybe only abu garcia. These are less wobbly than the lews and overall a better reel
but there are plenty better. Overall a good reel, but not for the price.
