Can I use braided (spider wire) on this reel
Answer: I use a thin strip of electrical tape as a backer then run Kastking KastPro 6 lbs test. Not as smooth as mono though. I think maybe P-line tcb8 with Teflon coating would be the best braid to use. Remember to scrape off the coating of what ever braid you try with your fingernail before tying knots.

Answer: I bought 2 of them and they will not crank backwards so you must have a bad one so I would suggest returning it where you purchased it. I haven't had any trouble with any of my president reels. I also have about 5 of the open faced ones.
Answer: Hi, like all spincast reels, you push the button and cast. Once satisfied with the cast, you turn the handle and so you can retrieve. If this is not doing this, it is probably defective. Try tighten the nut that holds the handle. If not return it.

Answer: I have two of these for my daughters to fish. Mostly trout fishing with smaller rooster tails and vibrax spinners on an ultralite rod. Have not had any issue with them reeling in the line as they are brand new with the original line. Once the line gets older, tension may be required to get them reeling in because of the line memory. Overall, very happy with the performance of these reels.
Answer: I know exactly what you're referring to as I had a Diawa fo 20 yts that was temperamental in that way. I don't believe this Pflueger has that problem as it has never failed to wind for me. I've had it for just under a year and I use it as my tactical rod while trolling with a baitcaster. It cast further than my bait casters, and never jams, but I only use 8 or 12 lb line on it. Also, I don't use an open-face reel anymore to compare it to, but I'll never go back give how well this reel works. For me... it's my go-to reel!

I am used to the open faced reels so this reel has a lower gear ratio and takes more cranks to reel it in but wonderful reel for kids and ladies. I am a man and like it. I can't say enough good about the undertrigger, however, as I never was good casting using my thumb. I test lures using this reel on a 6' pole, to keep busy while we're trolling the lake. It's simple and nearly error-proof to use, when I'm trying to manage several other pieces of equupment on my boat.

It is designed to sit on top of the rod and appears you can switch the crank from Right Handed to Left Handed. It is one of the better closed-face reels. Your open-face reels hang under your rod. Answer: I don't know but if it's like all the other spincast reels you spin the top off and then you push the line release button and while holding it in turn the top of spool and I don't remember which way but it shouldn't be too tight just good and snug. Once you spin it off there's a knob on the opposite side of the handle. Remove the knob and then pull the handle out of the reel and then you should be able to take the rest of insides out of the reel. Spincast reels are pretty simple reels.

Answer: I believe it is advertised as 6-12lb test. I use it with 12lb as I mainly use 3/8th to 1oz lures. It seems to work eaqually well with 8 or 12, so I go with the heavier to lessen broken line due to snags.

When I bought this reel, I was willing to try something different. I will say on a positive note, the frame and casing has great construction. However the internals of this reel are not well made. The reel I recieved did not reel in line and the line release lever did not function properly. I was highly disappointed, this is the last reel from this brand I will ever buy.

I've been spin fishing regularly over the last 55 years or so. In that time I've owned well over a hundred spinning reels. While it's never been hard to find a good open faced (OF) spinning real, quality closed faced (CF) reels have been as mythical as a unicorn. (Likely because closed faced reels are mainly marketed to beginners/kids) . This one is different! I find the build quality, fit and finish to be as good as the Pflueger President OF reel ( of which I have 8 in various sizes). It operates smoother than the Daiwa and Zebco CF reels I've owned in the past too. That said, I do think it has limitations. First, it is supceptable to line twist as are most CF reels. Next, the reel handle is short so if your coming from OF reels, it feels awquard /tireing to retrieve. Lastly, It takes precise timing of the trigger to get any kind of accuracy out of this reel. It may be me but I struggle to get within the diamiter of a volkswagon of my target when castign this reel. (With a OF reel, I can usually hit a pie plate). All in all, it's a good reel if you want the simplicity of a Cf reel for newbee's ( with supervision to watch for line twist!) but it's not going to replace my fleet of OF reels any time soon.

Looks good and feels good but I got a defective one. The drag is horrible can't use light line or a big fish will break it. There is a wobble and ruff surface against line while casting inside reel.

I like the size, feel, and retrieve of this reel. There is only one flaw to it; often, when trying to make a cast, the retrieve engages, immediately stopping the line and splashing my lure just a few feet out. This happens way too often and is VERY annoying. It seems to be from vibrations in the rod, so I hope to find an adjustment I can make to fix it.

I got this reel because of the rear push button for my 7 yr old, however this reel came as a trigger pull under the reel, my boy’s hands are too small to reach the trigger! If I were to have gotten this for my 9 year old it would have gotten 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me but because it won’t work for me I can only give it 3!

I love using this reel. Only reason it isn't perfect is the end cap that covers the empty side where there is no handle came off repeatedly. I tried to contact Pflueger and was on hold for ever. Never got to speak to anyone. I have no idea where to buy one of the end caps to replace it.

Best under-spin reel I've ever owned ! Bought it for my wife and she loves it. Me too ! It allowed me more fishing time and less untangling time. The previous year she had 2 competitive under spins that I spent more time untangling and fixing than I did fishing. I spooled this one with Kast-King 10 lb. braided hi-viz line, and hooked it to a 5 foot Ugly Stik Lite. She hammered the crappies, blue gills and even a few walleye on a Wisconsin fishing trip last year with zero issues ! I am going to buy again, to have a pair.

The reel handle snapped in two, after using it twice for a total of 6 hours. Because of the design, I don't believe there's a way to replace just the reel handle.
I own three Pflueger President spinning reels and have had no problems with them. I bought this model to have an option to decrease line-twist, and it was just trash. Very disappointing, and I hope this is not a harbinger of future cheap product roll-outs from a company I have trusted.

My 9 yr old daughter is hooked on this style reel. She loves that finger trigger. We went out for some yard casting to just test her out and WOW nothing beats the smile on your childs face. She mentioned it has some weight to it making it feel more balanced on her pole. Cant wait to get her on the water and really let her feel it out.

OPEN-FACED president reels are the best reels I have used over the years. Thought I would try the under spin but it seems like it takes 2 times more cranking to get your bait back in. It needs to have a better gear radio for cranking but otherwise I give the reel five stars. I always liked my gold president reel but also bought 4 of the blue president reels. my favorites for sure.

This reel is all-aluminum and built to last. It feels solid and heavy. Looked at Shakespeare, Zebco, Abu Garcia, and all the others and quality and craftsmanship have sunk low since I was a child. Cheap plastic junk. This reel reminds me of what fishing gear used to be like! I will purchase my rods and reels only from Pflueger now.

I love using this reel. Only reason it isn't perfect is the end cap that covers the empty side where there is no handle came off repeatedly. I tried to contact Pflueger and was on hold for ever. Never got to speak to anyone. I have no idea where to buy one of the end caps to replace it.

Ok so I have used this trigger spincast reel for over a month now. It doesn't release the line in one out of 5 casts. I love the idea of this trigger, but I wish it would work consistently. I may return it, not sure yet. I'm going to call Pfluger and see what they say they can do.

The reel handle snapped in two, after using it twice for a total of 6 hours. Because of the design, I don't believe there's a way to replace just the reel handle.
I own three Pflueger President spinning reels and have had no problems with them. I bought this model to have an option to decrease line-twist, and it was just trash. Very disappointing, and I hope this is not a harbinger of future cheap product roll-outs from a company I have trusted.

I bought this reel for a catfish pole you know 30lb and up. This thing would do well to get a bluegill in. It is micro sized after the picture showing a large looking reel. Very disappointed.

I'm slightly addicted to these underpin reels. I hate how inefficient a standard spinning reel is. These triggerspin style reels are one hand operation which is great. This one in particular is the best quality one I've found so far. And believe me I have a bunch of these. I've tried the Lews one, the Zebco Micro 33 T, the Diawa one, and a bunch of no name ones. This Pflueger reel is better than all those.
Let's start with the materials. Almost the entire reel is aluminum. The case, the cone, the handle. Really sturdy feeling. The knob is fairly comfortable as well.
The case has a Pflueger emblem plate on the back of the reel for a classy touch.
The front cone has slots cut in it. Most of these reels have that but unlike all other reels this one has a clear plastic ring inside that pretty much acts as a window pane for those slots. That is sure to keep most dirt out.
The Pflueger brand name is printed around the rim of the cone in a holographic material.
The operation is super smooth. The drag is pretty good and very smooth. The drag selection knob is not bad.
This company has really paid attention to detail on this reel. It feels high quality.
I have only one complaint, and one wish for this reel. With all the high quality materials they used in this reel, they used a plastic trigger which doesn't feel as quality as the rest of the reel. It will probably never break or malfunction but it detracts from the overall look and feel. And I wish this reel was made in America. I would gladly pay more if that was the case.

No regrets on purchasing this reel. Gear ratio leaves a little to be desired. Pretty slow so be prepared to crank the handle very fast to move your bait.

H. Person : Casts Well, Except...
I like the size, feel, and retrieve of this reel. There is only one flaw to it; often, when trying to make a cast, the retrieve engages, immediately stopping the line and splashing my lure just a few feet out. This happens way too often and is VERY annoying. It seems to be from vibrations in the rod, so I hope to find an adjustment I can make to fix it.

The reel is excellent for what it is however it is not what it is pictured. I got this reel because of the rear push button for my 7 yr old, however this reel came as a trigger pull under the reel, my boy’s hands are too small to reach the trigger! If I were to have gotten this for my 9 year old it would have gotten 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me but because it won’t work for me I can only give it 3!

Reel worked OK for the first few times out then failed. I would not buy into the reputation again.

This little reel is very good for light fishing. Not real durable; One broke down after only a few days of use. Another is still fishing but I have demoted it to use only for blue gill and crappie. Love the concept of not having to fool with the bail, but I do wish someone would put more R&D into a quality model design.
