Can I use braided (spider wire) on this reel
Answer: I use a thin strip of electrical tape as a backer then run Kastking KastPro 6 lbs test. Not as smooth as mono though. I think maybe P-line tcb8 with Teflon coating would be the best braid to use. Remember to scrape off the coating of what ever braid you try with your fingernail before tying knots.

Answer: I bought 2 of them and they will not crank backwards so you must have a bad one so I would suggest returning it where you purchased it. I haven't had any trouble with any of my president reels. I also have about 5 of the open faced ones.
Answer: Hi, like all spincast reels, you push the button and cast. Once satisfied with the cast, you turn the handle and so you can retrieve. If this is not doing this, it is probably defective. Try tighten the nut that holds the handle. If not return it.

Answer: I have two of these for my daughters to fish. Mostly trout fishing with smaller rooster tails and vibrax spinners on an ultralite rod. Have not had any issue with them reeling in the line as they are brand new with the original line. Once the line gets older, tension may be required to get them reeling in because of the line memory. Overall, very happy with the performance of these reels.
Answer: I know exactly what you're referring to as I had a Diawa fo 20 yts that was temperamental in that way. I don't believe this Pflueger has that problem as it has never failed to wind for me. I've had it for just under a year and I use it as my tactical rod while trolling with a baitcaster. It cast further than my bait casters, and never jams, but I only use 8 or 12 lb line on it. Also, I don't use an open-face reel anymore to compare it to, but I'll never go back give how well this reel works. For me... it's my go-to reel!

I am used to the open faced reels so this reel has a lower gear ratio and takes more cranks to reel it in but wonderful reel for kids and ladies. I am a man and like it. I prefer any phfluger president reel. I have had many other reels that don't compare especially for the price. I like 6# test.

Answer: The 6 is a spin casting reel and sits on top of rod. The 6u is an underspin reel and hangs below the rod. It has a trigger to release line instead of a push button.

I can't say enough good about the undertrigger, however, as I never was good casting using my thumb. I test lures using this reel on a 6' pole, to keep busy while we're trolling the lake. It's simple and nearly error-proof to use, when I'm trying to manage several other pieces of equupment on my boat.

It is designed to sit on top of the rod and appears you can switch the crank from Right Handed to Left Handed. It is one of the better closed-face reels. Your open-face reels hang under your rod. Answer: I don't know but if it's like all the other spincast reels you spin the top off and then you push the line release button and while holding it in turn the top of spool and I don't remember which way but it shouldn't be too tight just good and snug. Once you spin it off there's a knob on the opposite side of the handle. Remove the knob and then pull the handle out of the reel and then you should be able to take the rest of insides out of the reel. Spincast reels are pretty simple reels.

Answer: I believe it is advertised as 6-12lb test. I use it with 12lb as I mainly use 3/8th to 1oz lures. It seems to work eaqually well with 8 or 12, so I go with the heavier to lessen broken line due to snags.
Answer: I would stay in the 6-10lb test range. It depends on what you are fishing for. I use 6# on mine because I like the action it gives me.

Amazon Customer : Best in class that I've seen over 50 years of fishing
I've been spin fishing regularly over the last 55 years or so. In that time I've owned well over a hundred spinning reels. While it's never been hard to find a good open faced (OF) spinning real, quality closed faced (CF) reels have been as mythical as a unicorn. (Likely because closed faced reels are mainly marketed to beginners/kids) . This one is different! I find the build quality, fit and finish to be as good as the Pflueger President OF reel ( of which I have 8 in various sizes). It operates smoother than the Daiwa and Zebco CF reels I've owned in the past too. That said, I do think it has limitations. First, it is supceptable to line twist as are most CF reels. Next, the reel handle is short so if your coming from OF reels, it feels awquard /tireing to retrieve. Lastly, It takes precise timing of the trigger to get any kind of accuracy out of this reel. It may be me but I struggle to get within the diamiter of a volkswagon of my target when castign this reel. (With a OF reel, I can usually hit a pie plate). All in all, it's a good reel if you want the simplicity of a Cf reel for newbee's ( with supervision to watch for line twist!) but it's not going to replace my fleet of OF reels any time soon.

This reel is well built. It's definitely on the smaller side and meant for a light/ultralight rod. Appox size 10 to size 20 reel how I would rate the size of this reel. It's really fun to just pull the trigger n let her rip! For an amateur or experienced angler, this thing is pretty cool. Only thing negative I could say is that the retrieve rate isn't great but other than that, this thing rocks. Nice job Pflueger! I hope to see more of the reels in bigger sizes and higher end models one day, such as the president xt or supreme, etc..

Best under-spin reel I've ever owned ! Bought it for my wife and she loves it. Me too ! It allowed me more fishing time and less untangling time. The previous year she had 2 competitive under spins that I spent more time untangling and fixing than I did fishing. I spooled this one with Kast-King 10 lb. braided hi-viz line, and hooked it to a 5 foot Ugly Stik Lite. She hammered the crappies, blue gills and even a few walleye on a Wisconsin fishing trip last year with zero issues ! I am going to buy again, to have a pair.

I've used this a few times and even caught a some fish. The retrieve is smooth as is the operation. Solidly built with a minimum of plastic compared to others. Only downside is I'm having trouble setting the drag the way I like it. But of all the complaints the fish have about this reel, that is not one of them.

First off let me say I was blown away at the quality of this reel. This reel is made of metal in and out. The one thing I notice when I first used it was that it wasn’t reeling in right like it was metal on metal. I took it apart and sure enough no grease. After putting a little grease on the gears it works like a charm. This reel has a very smooth drag system on it for a small trigger cast. The handle inter changes to either side with no problem and is metal very nice weight wise. I put fluorocarbon 6lb test and casted extremely well with no problem. I like the size of this reel it’s a little bit better then a zebco trigger spin reel. Overall very pleased with the performance of this Pflueger and plan on buying a couple more for me and the better half. I would highly recommend this reel for anyone.

I like the size, feel, and retrieve of this reel. There is only one flaw to it; often, when trying to make a cast, the retrieve engages, immediately stopping the line and splashing my lure just a few feet out. This happens way too often and is VERY annoying. It seems to be from vibrations in the rod, so I hope to find an adjustment I can make to fix it.

I Was looking for a nice ultralight/light triggerspin reel for casting small lures under docks also something that is good for creek fishing for panfish,crappie,trout. I tried several different mono and fluro lines they all tangle inside after short period of time fishing and it is very difficult to untangle fast very time consuming.It seems to get hung up snagged on something inside the reel. The reel feels decent ,right size and weight but it's very frustrating spending more money for a higher priced triggercast that you can get about or similar results with a cheaper version plflueger generally makes good reels but this one is very disappointing to say the least

I've used this a few times and even caught a some fish. The retrieve is smooth as is the operation. Solidly built with a minimum of plastic compared to others. Only downside is I'm having trouble setting the drag the way I like it. But of all the complaints the fish have about this reel, that is not one of them.

I bought this reel for a catfish pole you know 30lb and up. This thing would do well to get a bluegill in. It is micro sized after the picture showing a large looking reel. Very disappointed.

This is my second Pflueger President Spincast Fishing Reel. It is a great looking product but most of all it casts and retrieves smoothly. I put it on an 11 ft. crappie rod and filled it with 10 lb. line because with crappie fishing you get into limbs and such and I like the heavier line so I can straighten out the hook on a snag. It will cast plenty far if I want to swim a bait. The trigger spin is so easy and less time consuming then an open bail spin. Great product!

Suits me very well for bouncing night crawlers in the river. Five bearing system seems very smooth, like it a lot. Could use the same reel with 5 bearings the next size larger in the underspin model. The wife the overhand model and it fits her well. Caught some nice ones.

Love this little reel. Smooth casting. Line has held up to several catfish (2-5#'s) fighting on the line. Mostly fish from a kayak, up under trees and shallow waters. Needed a reel to go with the short rods. Does an excellent job. Would recommend.

First off let me say I was blown away at the quality of this reel. This reel is made of metal in and out. The one thing I notice when I first used it was that it wasn’t reeling in right like it was metal on metal. I took it apart and sure enough no grease. After putting a little grease on the gears it works like a charm. This reel has a very smooth drag system on it for a small trigger cast. The handle inter changes to either side with no problem and is metal very nice weight wise. I put fluorocarbon 6lb test and casted extremely well with no problem. I like the size of this reel it’s a little bit better then a zebco trigger spin reel. Overall very pleased with the performance of this Pflueger and plan on buying a couple more for me and the better half. I would highly recommend this reel for anyone.

H. Person : Casts Well, Except...
I like the size, feel, and retrieve of this reel. There is only one flaw to it; often, when trying to make a cast, the retrieve engages, immediately stopping the line and splashing my lure just a few feet out. This happens way too often and is VERY annoying. It seems to be from vibrations in the rod, so I hope to find an adjustment I can make to fix it.
