Can I use braided (spider wire) on this reel
Answer: I use a thin strip of electrical tape as a backer then run Kastking KastPro 6 lbs test. Not as smooth as mono though. I think maybe P-line tcb8 with Teflon coating would be the best braid to use. Remember to scrape off the coating of what ever braid you try with your fingernail before tying knots.

Answer: I bought 2 of them and they will not crank backwards so you must have a bad one so I would suggest returning it where you purchased it. I haven't had any trouble with any of my president reels. I also have about 5 of the open faced ones.
Answer: Hi, like all spincast reels, you push the button and cast. Once satisfied with the cast, you turn the handle and so you can retrieve. If this is not doing this, it is probably defective. Try tighten the nut that holds the handle. If not return it.

Answer: I have two of these for my daughters to fish. Mostly trout fishing with smaller rooster tails and vibrax spinners on an ultralite rod. Have not had any issue with them reeling in the line as they are brand new with the original line. Once the line gets older, tension may be required to get them reeling in because of the line memory. Overall, very happy with the performance of these reels.
Answer: I know exactly what you're referring to as I had a Diawa fo 20 yts that was temperamental in that way. I don't believe this Pflueger has that problem as it has never failed to wind for me. I've had it for just under a year and I use it as my tactical rod while trolling with a baitcaster. It cast further than my bait casters, and never jams, but I only use 8 or 12 lb line on it. Also, I don't use an open-face reel anymore to compare it to, but I'll never go back give how well this reel works. For me... it's my go-to reel!
Answer: I like the reel. that seems to work fine for the tension part for smaller baits. I am used to the open faced reels so this reel has a lower gear ratio and takes more cranks to reel it in but wonderful reel for kids and ladies. I am a man and like it. I prefer any phfluger president reel. I have had many other reels that don't compare especially for the price. I like 6# test.

Answer: The 6 is a spin casting reel and sits on top of rod. The 6u is an underspin reel and hangs below the rod. It has a trigger to release line instead of a push button.
Answer: Not sure how a question on this model was sent to me as I purchased the "undertrigger" model. Maybe the 6u is the undertrigger version's model number. I can't say enough good about the undertrigger, however, as I never was good casting using my thumb. I test lures using this reel on a 6' pole, to keep busy while we're trolling the lake. It's simple and nearly error-proof to use, when I'm trying to manage several other pieces of equupment on my boat.

It is designed to sit on top of the rod and appears you can switch the crank from Right Handed to Left Handed. It is one of the better closed-face reels. Your open-face reels hang under your rod. Answer: I don't know but if it's like all the other spincast reels you spin the top off and then you push the line release button and while holding it in turn the top of spool and I don't remember which way but it shouldn't be too tight just good and snug. Once you spin it off there's a knob on the opposite side of the handle. Remove the knob and then pull the handle out of the reel and then you should be able to take the rest of insides out of the reel. Spincast reels are pretty simple reels.

Answer: I believe it is advertised as 6-12lb test. I use it with 12lb as I mainly use 3/8th to 1oz lures. It seems to work eaqually well with 8 or 12, so I go with the heavier to lessen broken line due to snags.
Answer: I would stay in the 6-10lb test range. It depends on what you are fishing for. I use 6# on mine because I like the action it gives me.

I have had (2) of these Pflueger President underspin (trigger) Ultralight reels now. I fished for pan fish with this reel using an UL 5.6-ft rod. The first reel broke within about 6 months of use. So I bought a 2nd one thinking it was just a fluke.
Now after a little more than a year, this 2nd reel continues to create "loops" when I retrieve the line onto the spool and then it is nearly impossible to cast because the line gets stuck on the "loop" (inside the reel cover) as it tries to release the line off the spool. I have re-lined this reel at least 3-4 times over the past 4 months thinking it might be a line issue but still no luck. Same problem keeps continuing to develop fishing trip after trip.
Yet my wife has an old tried and true UL Zebco 33 underspin (trigger) reel on a very similar Ugly Stick 5.6-ft UL rod. She uses the same line as I have used on the Pflueger. She has NO PROBLEMS, so I have finally given up on the Pflueger and bought on old Zebo 33 UL underpin (trigger) reel just like hers.
Can't wait to get back out there on the water and enjoy casting and fishing again. Hard to beat the old tried and true Zebcos. Not fancy, not expensive but they work where the Pfluegers don't. Sorry Pflueger.

This reel is well built. It's definitely on the smaller side and meant for a light/ultralight rod. Appox size 10 to size 20 reel how I would rate the size of this reel. It's really fun to just pull the trigger n let her rip! For an amateur or experienced angler, this thing is pretty cool. Only thing negative I could say is that the retrieve rate isn't great but other than that, this thing rocks. Nice job Pflueger! I hope to see more of the reels in bigger sizes and higher end models one day, such as the president xt or supreme, etc..

Can't wait to get back out there on the water and enjoy casting and fishing again. Hard to beat the old tried and true Zebcos. Not fancy, not expensive but they work where the Pfluegers don't. Sorry Pflueger.
Now after a little more than a year, this 2nd reel continues to create "loops" when I retrieve the line onto the spool and then it is nearly impossible to cast because the line gets stuck on the "loop" (inside the reel cover) as it tries to release the line off the spool. I have re-lined this reel at least 3-4 times over the past 4 months thinking it might be a line issue but still no luck. Same problem keeps continuing to develop fishing trip after trip.
Yet my wife has an old tried and true UL Zebco 33 underspin (trigger) reel on a very similar Ugly Stick 5.6-ft UL rod. She uses the same line as I have used on the Pflueger. She has NO PROBLEMS, so I have finally given up on the Pflueger and bought on old Zebo 33 UL underpin (trigger) reel just like hers.

H. Person : Casts Well, Except...
I like the size, feel, and retrieve of this reel. There is only one flaw to it; often, when trying to make a cast, the retrieve engages, immediately stopping the line and splashing my lure just a few feet out. This happens way too often and is VERY annoying. It seems to be from vibrations in the rod, so I hope to find an adjustment I can make to fix it.

Bearings are smooth and fast out nicely. This is the first trigger reel I have owned and love it. Able to spot cast toward shore or trees and brake/stop it for accurate casting

When I bought this reel, I was willing to try something different. I will say on a positive note, the frame and casing has great construction. However the internals of this reel are not well made. The reel I recieved did not reel in line and the line release lever did not function properly. I was highly disappointed, this is the last reel from this brand I will ever buy.

I have used twice and the reel doesn't cast anymore. If I pull line out of it and mess with it, it will cast a few times and then you have to do it all over again. This reel is junk, keep your money.

I bought this reel for a catfish pole you know 30lb and up. This thing would do well to get a bluegill in. It is micro sized after the picture showing a large looking reel. Very disappointed.

Great feel to this reel. To be small it has some weight to it, which means it’s actually metal and not some composite material. I would change out line as mine snapped almost every time I got resistance from a limb or weed bed, go with a quality line 6-8 lbs max for this reel.
