This is not a light reel but it is an excellent reel and the way it is built it should hold up for a very long time. I was not sure when I purchased the reel but when I found out it was a Pflueger I never wasted any time to purchase it. I have a open face Pllueger and I have had it sever years. Excellent price for an exceptional reel. Hope this helps you.

I had high hopes for these reels, but had similar problems as some others. Half the time the line will not cast out of the reel. The drag is horrible in that on minimum setting it still pulls off hard, so with 6lb line I lost several nice trout due to the drag problem.

I bought this for my wife who prefers closed reels. The operation of the reel is very smooth. It seems that a lot of closed reels don't function well after a while where the line seems to get snagged inside or the mechanism fails to pick up the line when you reel in. So far no problems with this one. The quality of the construction seems to be better than others. After this purchase I bought myself a Pflueger open faced spinning reel as well that I am very happy with.

I Have used this reel a few times and the handle keeps coming loose. I tightened it really tight 3 times and it still keeps coming LOOSE!! I got Mad last time as It was only a couple dozen cast and the handle was wobbling all over the place. I got it home and sure enough the bolt that holds the handle on was loose AGAIN. This time I took it out,wiped the threads down and put LOCK TIGHT on it. I tightened it REALLY TIGHT AGAIN!!! I hope this does the trick. I have not used it since I have done this. Time will tell. Pflueger really needs to own this FLAW as I See it's a common problem with this reel. SHAME ON THEM as they keep making and selling them with this well known flaw. Take Peoples money and run. The smoothness of the reel is ok BUT!! what good is a reel when the handle falls off during your fishing adventures? Google It And see for yourself, They say the hexagon on the handle will strip out too, another common problem with these reels. Oh did I mention the PLASTIC push button breaks all the time too. Can't WAIT!! I ordered a new button JUST IN CASE it happens while fishing. Looks Like I Better Take A Tool Box Too!!!

Do not purchase this reel. I purchased this reel in late August and by the first of October, this reel has stopped working. I've tried to contact customer service via email and phone on several different occasions with no luck. My email system emails me letting me know the email to Pflueger was not delivered. I tried to call on different days not all "circuits are busy". Bad customer service and worst product.

I did ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for durability but I honestly haven’t put it to heavy use yet. It’s smooth, looks nice, and the reel has enough weight to really balance a 5 1/2” lightweight medium action rod out nicely. It’s not the lightest on the market but I don’t count that as a disadvantage. There’s lots of tough metal construction there.

Opened the box and my first impression was WOW. This reel feels nice in the hands, and was very heavy for the size. I assumed this meant good build quality and metal not plastic parts. After the first trip of fishing the handle just about fell off. So ..okay I wanted to change up to some lighter 2lb test for the next trip and then I could tighten it up no problem. Second cast on the new line yielded a zero distance flop in my face, so i let some line out and tried again and it got out 15ft. then dropped like a rock. So i stretched and re-wound with zero improvement. So i went up to 8lb mono and it worked again. But now the handle has lots of side -to side play and feels loose while reeling. Checked the screw and behold it was loose again. As i inspected the parts and went through to grease and oil the gears / bearings i noticed the red paper washer for the handle was ripping in half. I contacted Customer support through Amazon and still haven't gotten a response (2 weeks ago). I wanted to really love this reel so after i shimmed the washer with paper motherboard washers, I bought 4lb and 6lb kast king fluro-carbon for rocky river trout fishing. The reel went back to internal crap and wouldn't cast either line no matter how many times i re-spooled with tension, with no tension, with pre-stretching, or without. I even tried 10lb and 20lb braid and lol that was a waste of an hour. So back to 8lb mono and spooled with good tension it finally cast again, but guess what .. the handle was falling off and the washer was toast. I had my 74 year old Dad look at it and he laughed and said look at my Pflueger and pointed to where it said made in the USA, then directed me to mine where it says made in china/. Also gave me advice on a spincast reels and says if that is the style you want then you better stick with zebco. Contacted customer support again to no response.

I have been zebco owner for years, all my reels will be this this brand from now on. It built very well and it casts with ease. I like to fish for blue gills and any pan fish so the test of the line is perfect.

This reel is built well and works well too, the only problems I have had is with casting, because sometimes it will hang up when you long cast it. Other than that, I haven’t had any issues.

Straight out of the box it didn't cast right. I thought it was my son or the line was bound up. But the spool would not release and after messing with it for awhile I gave up. I finally wanted a nice reel I didn't have to fix every time I go fishing. I guess its back to the cheep reels. This really sucks!

Handle broke after about a month. Only used about 4 or 5 times. The screw that holds the handle on broke sheared in half. Gonna try to warranty it so hopefully they will replace it.

The reel does not lock to hold the line in place while I lift the fish into the boat and unhook it. Definitely not what I expected. Either I have a defective reel or I am missing a setting somewhere or the reel is not what I am looking for.

I have been fishing for 75 years. I have a open face reel and it is a Pflueger. I was not aware Pflueger manufactured a closed face reel or I would have purchase one a long time ago. I was looking at all reel that Amazon had listed and noticed the Pflueger Presidential reel. I purchased this reel and I knew before I received the reel it would be of a higher grade than any other reel. The first day I received the reel I went fishing. Need I tell you more I was having the time of the life bringing in the fish. This reel is manufactured to last.

So I recently became interested in pursuing bass fishing. I am near retirement age and have not fished since my teen years. I still have all of my old gear, but wanted a more modern, better rod and reel. Hoped the Pflueger President would be a significant step up from my 1966 Zebco 202, and it seemed like it was until tonight. The thumb button broke and nearly put a halt to tonight’s fishing outing. I was
able to limp along for the remainder of the evening, and did land a nice Florida Largemouth. Upon returning home, a closer inspection revealed that one of the pins broke off of the thumb button. Really was enjoying the reel up to this point. I am returning it and have ordered a Daiwa.

JS Goatman : Bought for my wife
I bought this for my wife who prefers closed reels. The operation of the reel is very smooth. It seems that a lot of closed reels don't function well after a while where the line seems to get snagged inside or the mechanism fails to pick up the line when you reel in. So far no problems with this one. The quality of the construction seems to be better than others. After this purchase I bought myself a Pflueger open faced spinning reel as well that I am very happy with.
