Can i use this reel for saltwater?

Answer: Bought two, 1st time I used it the adjustment knob kept falling off and finally it went overboard. The second reel, the drag is always tight, star is all the way out and there is about 10lbs. Of drag at the lowest adjustment. Tighten the drag a little and it locks up. Wrapped pliers around the line, pulled and snapped 30lb. Braid. But they were brand new so saltwater didn’t have anything to do with the failures.

Answer: The width and line capacity depends on the size of the reel...4000, 5000, or 6000; however I would say its about the same size at the Abu C3 series for the same size. I strongly suggest you read my prior review on this reel...it is inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Mine lasted me about 5 fishing trips...

Answer: Clicker being loud is a relative term. When I first got the reel and tested the clicker, I thought the sound of it was sufficient for me. Unfortunately the reel is horrible and broke within 2 weeks and half a dozen fishing trips for me to have actually used this reel with the clicker. Personally, I would avoid this product. Very poor quality.

Answer: To stop the line from unspooling after you cast, it’s kind of obvious, turn the dag blasted crank handle a bit.

Bought the reel was very excited looks amazing! BUT the drag does not set and the release paw does not work and just grinds! If the company will send me another one that actually works I will give a great review with videos of catching some big fish! But until then it will be a bad review hope to hear from the company soon.

After a a couple of weeks a screw came out making it hard to reel. Had to loctite it but then snapped, but still held the reel in place. After a month the lock quit working so I couldn't use the drag as an indicator if I had a fish. Pretty good reel if it wasn't for those defects, otherwise this would be an awesome affordable reel.

I can’t say enough good things about this reel!!! It looks ant the smoothest reel ever, but as you can see it will get the job done!!! I did take it apart and cleaned it and re-lubed it when I got it, which helped out a lot. But for the money you can’t beat this thing, especially in this price range! I did notice today (fathers day 2021) that the left side of the reel started feeling loose, but that’s something I can deal with. I’ve put it through the ringer the past 2 weeks!!!

The reel worked out of the box. My only complaint at the time was the drag really sucked. Otherwise it worked. Used for 2 trips. I had issues with the braided line tangling on the line guide on the reel. On third trip i cast the pole on a bottom feeder. Hooked a fish and it wont reel back in. Just makes a zipping noise while reeling like drag is super low. I gave up and cut the line after losing more than half my spool. Will not buy anything of this brand again.

A bit smaller than a typical 50 reel but gets the job done. Loaded it with 250 yards of braid and it was not overloaded. Casting is smooth and quiet. Still wait to see the action on a big fish.

It looks like a solid reel and the price was right. I really liked the cast/retrieve lever versus a bush button. Unfortunately it didn't even make it a month, hooked into a large freshwater drum (4lbs) and it jerked the rod out of the holder onto some rocks. The gearing inside broke from the impact and now drag is iffy at best.

ok so good build quality, strong, cast far, ect and most importantly its cheap. what you give up for the price is a good breaking system. you will be using your thumb and maybe a glove. this is not the best choice if you have never used a bait caster and arent experienced in fishing and fixing ratnests of line. but if you want a good build quality cheap reel that can reel in a large catfish, pike, muskie, salmon, ect on 60-100lb braided line then this is a good choice. it can hold a lot of line, but i have only tried braided so far. when reeling in a small 5 in fish it is actually very hard to tell if you have a fish on the line. fished in very dirty muddy conditions and the reel hasn't had any issues or rust. has a clicker. caught a large channel cat on it and reeled it in very easily.

After a few months of not using the reel, it became frozen, and being new to saltwater fishing and this type of reel, I used too much force to get the reel to turn and I ended up stripping the level wind gear. I took the reel apart and saw what had happened. The plastic gear that drives the level wind was tore up. I probably could have freed the gear manually using a lubricant if I had taken the reel apart instead of trying to horse it by cranking the handle (but I was on a pier and eager to begin fishing). The reel is still operable, but without the level wind feature, which for me is kind of a big deal. Without the level wind feature, the reel can only be used for bottom fishing and vertical jigging in moderate water depths.

i got 2 of these reels both seem to be well made but the line lay was horrible , looked like an egg or football so i returned the one i got off amazon , i'm stuck with the other one not worth returning to china , anyway i got a kastking rover 60 to replace this one and the line lay is much better not as good as a real abu though .

Rating this product before it's used! But the dimensions for the 5000 is wrong! It says the gear ratio is 5.2:1, which is great! But when I got it in the mail it's only 4.2:1, like the 6000 says it is. Other than that, it was packaged great & looks even better than the pictures!

I bought this reel for its classical design to use mostly for trolling and casting for pan fish. I added 300 yards of braided 20 pound test line. I found it to be a standard to use for my lake fishing in northern Georgia.

Just purchased 8 new reels and went fishing with them. They worked great and caught fish on all of them. Found to frag was extremely smooth and the reels good quality for the money. Drags tend to come a little loose at times which I can live with occasional adjustment. The reels look absolutely beautiful. My only concern would be how to receive service in the future but with a 6 ball bearing system And the quality they should work great for many years. My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to make the clicker button tighter as it tends to move out of the clicker position.
Over all the reels have worked really well.

I cannot write a review about how the reel worked while fishing because as i was putting line on the reel i noticed the reel made a lot of noise and level wine had come out of the grove, i also attempted to pull line off the reel by hand but the drag would not let me so attempted to loosen the star drag but it was as lose as it would go. The reel came in a box with a parts diagram on the box. No instructions of where to write to get replacement parts. One negative in my mind.

The reel is all metal and seems substantial and solid. Black side plates, golden spool, with golden adjustment knobs, (attractive to look at)

Inside most of the parts are brass except dor the levelwind gear and the clicker gear. At $49.95 this is not bad at all especially if you are planning to remove the levelwind altogether to make it a surf casting specialist reel like I am.

The cast control knobs ( 2 of them ) are better and more effective than the Kastking Rover 60s but not as good or effective as those found on an Abu 6500 C. Then again you're talking $49.95 vs $139.95.

The drag advertised 30 lbs which I didn't believe but to my surprize it delivered 37.7 lbs on a pull test. On a 5 lb drag setting it was a little jerky over a 20 yard walk test.

The Abu 6500 only claims 15 lbs and delivers 14.7 so there you go. This reel is $49.95.

I put abiut 350 yards of 65 lb Power Pro line on the reel and added it to a 10 ft medium light surf rod rated for 1oz to 5oz weights and went to the field.

Right out of the box, as is I was able to cast 2 oz & 3 oz sinkers 105 to 111 yards with one breakoff and one bitds nest out of 21 total casts.

Casting it compares favorably to the Abu 6500 out of the box. I will say the levelwind assembly is noisey and robs you of significant distance.

I had to set the spool tension a little higher than I wanted because of the somewhat ineffective centrifugal brake.

Future plans for this reel include removing the levelwind and all gears associated with it. Removing the centrifugal breaks and adding a knobby mag brake.

I may or may not swap out the bushings on the spool for a set of dry run ceramic bearings.

There isn't a lot of roon for a knobby mag.
6mm to 8mm at max. An N52 magnet at this size should do the job.

I fish the surf in the Gulf of Mexico with Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, and Flounder being my most common target species.

The reel should be able to handle them without any problem but with this high drag strength you will need 50 to 80 lb braid to keep from the heavy but sticky drag.

Over all at $49.95 this is not bad at all
