Answer: Just contacted Abu Garcia and spoke to a CSR. Confirmed that most of the high end round baitcasters are made in Sweden such as the 6600 C4. Anything else that you see at Walmart that has an Abu Garcia name on it is MADE IN CHINA. Getting me a 6600 C4 today.

Answer: It depends on what type of fishing u r doing. If it is on a boat for drop jigging then a shorter rod with medium heavy rod will be better combination. Other than that your present combination is pretty good for most fishing situations. I sometimes even pair it to 9-10ft MH rod when I need the extra length for distance casting like surf casting from the beach. Hope this helps.

Answer: I don't know what your fishing for. If you let me know I would be able to match a rod for this reel. I am a custom rod builder so I am familiar with matching reels to rods.

Answer: Nothing against ugly sticks but there worthless with this reel. This reel is for larger fish like muskies and ugly sticks don't cut it for setting hooks.

Answer: You should look for a medium heavy fast or a heavy fast rod if you don't understand that just ask the sport shop guys and they can help you. I build St Croix rods and they are some of the best. If you are fishing brackish waters you may want to consider titanium guides as they are rust proof. These rods may set you back a few dollars but will be well worth it. Good luck.

Answer: Judging by this pic yes. 2014 has bent star and this burnished brass color. 2013 has royal blue bright screaming brass color. Also if you have medium to large hands you might want to showroom a 5600. My thumb does not fit into the spool cavity to stop the spool on 4600 size and I have med/large hands.

Answer: I like the smaller reels as I use this reel for wadefishing all day. The other features I like are multi-disc drag, high retrieve, low backlash, and that it fits in my hand well. I grab both the rod and reel together as I am fishing and am able to whip the rod while retrieving the lure to get the best lure action. I did however have to completely disassemble, clean, and relubricate after my first usage as the factory lubrication does not hold up well to saltwater environments.

Answer: Yes. But that also depends on what you consider far enough. I’ve used it for surf fishing and off the pier. In both places, I made a pretty good distance cast.

Answer: Not really a casting reel. I have these on all my boat rods for Salmon fishing. I surf fish as well, I prefer spinning reels. I buy middle of the road reels that I wont loose sleep over when they crap out from the sand and salt water.

So I have these paired with some Med/Heavy rods and I gotta say I'm not as impressed as I'd like to be. They are well made, drag is smooth, plenty of power and cast really well. However, the reel feels like it struggles during retrieve. Even if I'm only bringing up the sinker and bait, maybe 10 ounces total, the reel acts like its struggling. Maybe they will break in after a bit more use, still a 4 star product. If retrieve was smooth I'd give it a 5.

This one had too much drag at start. I thought it was normal but I was new to this type of reel. After trying some different reel realized this one has an issue. I believe i just got a defective unit but its past the return time unfortunately. Finally, after using it for saltwater, I do not believe simply rinsing it will be enough as the drag has now gotten much worse and my line with 1 oz weight will never just drop.

Gorgeous piece of machinery. Got it for my boyfriend, who has had this model reel for ages. It's smooth and professional. Not for beginner fishers though! You have to be very careful when you cast this out, and use your thumb to slow and stop the line, and if you don't do it with a very controlled and practiced manner, the line will snatch up and become a rat's nest. Otherwise it's worth the practice. Great reel, excellent price.

The Abu Garcia Ambassaduer.. This reel is awesome! The retrieve is smooth. Casting is really smooth too. Line capacity is amazing (mine is backed with 30lb braid to 14lb fluoro now). I took mine to Venice Pier, and was able to break it in with this little leopard shark. I think this reel is for someone who knows how to fish with baitcasters and not so much a beginner. You can’t adjust the brakes, only the tension. It’s a little tricky but if you can find YOUR settings, you’ll enjoy this. It isn’t hard but relying only on the tension and your thumb as brakes, I honestly feel that comes from practice with the low profile baitcasters. This reel offers 15lbs of max drag. It has a clicker that you can switch on/off. The retrieve is pretty fast. One thing I would change if I could is probably the crank. I feel that it’s a little small. But that’s just because my low profile reels have an extended crank (all Abu Garcia’s). Don’t let the online photos or even mine fool the size of the reel. It’s actually a good size and you can palm it comfortably. I really like that it’s made in Sweden. Thumbs up to that.

In the box the packaging was not protecting the reel but instead it was pushed to one side. Also, the reel oil was not included even though it is supposed to be included with all new abu reels.
