The Shimano Baitrunner OC spinning reels are saltwater fishing reels made with XT-7 construction. They are durable and made to hold up for any saltwater fishing expeditions. These reels have baitrunner feature for live bait use. The long-standing king of live bait spinning reels, the Shimano Baitrunner continues to improve with each new model. The Baitrunner feature lets you freespool with the bail closed, employing an adjustable secondary drag; and it can be flipped off instantaneously when you are ready to set the hook and bring the fish in. The XT-7 graphite frame and rotor provide exceptional strength and rigidity while cutting down on weight. Other assets include Dyna-Balance rotor control, cold-forged aluminum spool an oversized power roller, Propulsion Line Management system, fluid Drive 2 gearing system, Super Stopper II anti-reverse system, Direct Drive Mechanism, and Varispeed Oscillation system.

What braided line is good for this reel? Besides the power pro braid because it is a litttle pricy.

Answer: I have used both coated and non-coated braided lines on mine ... all seams to perform well on the real ... I use 40 lbs test braid for paddle fishing on the Yellowstone and Missouri river ... hundreds of casts a day with a 5 ounce weight ... holds up GREAT.

Answer: I have a couple of 4000 OC and 6000 OC. If I had it to do again I would go with the 8000 OC, simply because of line capacity

Answer: The 6000 is plenty. I live in Fla and use it to catch groupers in excess of 20# offshore.It is easy to use, very reliable , has never given me a bit of trouble.Tight lines!

Answer: I often wonder these things when I walk my cat every evening. But, truthfully, I do love buffalo wings. They go great with a bubble bath. You just have to make sure you use your turn signals.

Me : great real for the price.

This is an awesome real. Had fresh water Shimano, used it for ocean fishing for the past 15 years and it finally gave out. Bought this one as a replacement due to the baitrunner option. Works great and doesn't tangle up. Had 4 ounce lead on a 10 foot surf road and had no problems. Baitrunner option is smooth and the anti reverse is great. easy to set the hook with this real.

The only negative, is the 6000 series is kinda big and will tire you out if you plan on doing a whole day of fishing holding onto your rod and real.
Next spring i plan on buying the 4000 series for everyday fishing and use the 6000 for surf or deep water fishing. Told my coworkers, and two of them went and bought the 4000 and have been extremely happy with it.

I bought the reel in December 2018 and only got to use it last week (3/9/2019) because of the weather.
After reeling in 3 or 4 white fish 3-5 lbs each, the reel broke! The spool does not go up and down anymore.
What a disappointment!
