Its a great bait.I've noticed lately that the stock at BPS is a third of what it was.Odd search results on the website too.It looks like they pulled the pit boss off the havoc line and re branded under powerbait. Also a nice price hike.Anyone else notice this?
I seem to remember a "Fan Vote" contest a while back in which Berkley ran asking fans what Havoc baits they would like to see infused with power bait. The Pit Boss stomped the other choices. I emailed them asking them if that meant the Pit Boss was going to be moved to the Power Bait line, as I love the Pit Boss...................I didn't save the response but it was basically......."No the Havoc Pit Boss is a huge success, the power bait version will just be an additional offering"
I would be ok with the extra money
I was just in BPS and can confirm the Pit Boss is now in the powerbait line as well.
On on another note, has anyone fished one like a swimbait? Pretty crazy action and the bass around here go crazy for it. 1/4 oz pegged weight and a Texas rigged ewg hook and you're good to go! My fav color is sapphire blue.

If you run a 3" Pit Boss or a 2.8" Keitech Crazy Flapper vertically on a drop shot it is incredibly productive.
By vertically I mean the bait 90 degrees up from the normal flat, crawdad type rigging that it will be used for 99% of the time, so it looks more like a fish.
I did read some stuff recently with the corporation that owns Berkley and several other brands was possibly breaking up being sold off, employees were being laid off etc. or something to that effect. Not sure if that is or will affect the supply of baits though.

I like to keep that on the down low....................but yes a pit boss alone, fished as a swim bait, either with a belly weighted "rage rig" or with a sinker pegged to it's nose has caught me a LOT of fish the last few years.
I fish them in a a lot of diff. ways. As a flipping bait, jig trailer, swimjig or chatterbait trailer, as a swimbait, I drop shot them, drag them around on biffle type wobble heads, fish them weightless on top like a frog, on shaky heads, and probably a couple other ways I can't remember.
They're my favorite bladed jig trailer because of the great swimming action.
You can do a lot of things with that bait, they catch a lot of fish, price point is awesome, and each size has its time and place. I have nothing bad to say about the pit boss.
However I don't think I would opt for a smellier version of one.
Hope they don't entirely change it to powerbait. I personally don't like powerbait.
I'm no fan of the slime and stink either. Please keep the Havoc line of the Pit Boss. I also use them heavily. I use them as trailers for just about everything.
I use them on C-Rigs and do well. Also a very good swim jig trailer.
My favorite flipping bait. Probably my #1 producing bait this past season. However, with the price hike I probably will go back to my previous favorite soft plastic the Biffle Bug.

This is pretty much all I use almost on blades jigs since seeing your post with them rigged vertical. I was quite bummed to see Lime Purple Passion seems to be discontinued.

Rage Menace in KVD Magic is my future replacement for that color whenever my supply of Line-Purple Passion Pitboss runs out.

Saw that yesterday while scanning Siebert's for an order and thought it looked pretty similar. I think I will pick up a pack or two.
Ppicked up the last 4 bags on the shelves at BPS.2 Okeechobee craw, one purple grass and one junebug. All 3"
Anybody get the powerbait version and fish it yet? Thinking the powerbait plastic formulation might be different giving it a different action. I always thought that powerbait had a different texture vs other plastics? Personally I vote for the havoc line since I use my own scent anyways.
I just started using the pit boss recently.I sometimes do well topwater with them ,just keeping a steady retrieve.Sometimes the bite is best with a stop and go retrieve just under the surface at a speed where you just start to make a wake. When I see the wake starting,I stop the retrieve then start again.Deadly.
Have caught a few just letting it sink.
Been flirting with big fish ,missed a couple.
I hope they don't mess it up and that they keep it like it is.This bait just made it into my " Circle of trust " baits.

I have a hoard of the 3".I'm going to buy as many as I can find. The Powerbait ones have that stink.Ill try them when I run out of these.Hopefully that won't happen.
Academy sports is where I get mine.Ill have to get some stocked up just in case.I like the California color.
Okechobee craw and Big Texan I love.I grabbed some Blue shiner gold that's going to look great on a bluegill or baby bass swim jig.
Now I am worried that there is something wrong with me as I have never noticed Powerbait to have much of a smell at all.
Anyone that has some 4" Lime-purple passion to get rid of let me know.

I don't want them that bad, but I'd trade for some.

Even some of the less obscure colors are going for 5.66.Price gouging at its finest.Right now I'm sitting on about 70 individual baits.I figure 140-180 fish worth.I'm not worried about running out yet lol.

Just realized they don't make sapphire blue anymore either, they're killing me.
Does anyone know wether the havoc line of pit bosses are no longer being made, or is the powerbait version just another option?

It appears they moved it to Powerbait.Grab the havocs while you can

Bummer . I really liked them, hopefully they don't change them except for the powerbait scent.

I'm now going to look I'll bet money I have a bag or two. In a week or two they will be worth a fortune.
Amazing just a few months ago you could get any color you wanted on sale for less than $2 a pack.
I just emailed Berkeley to get the scoop on what's up I'll post up what they say if I get a response.
I went to one of the four Dicksportingoods in my area this morning.
They have plenty of both the 3 and 4 inch havoc pit boss in stock in many colors at the regular price of 2.99.
There are none in the power bait section.
They're still listed on the Berkley website under Havoc.

I can find them under havoc on every site but BPS,which only has the Powerbait ones now.Iys that way in store too.Maybe its just BPS??I can't find the Powerbait ones on TW or Cabelas.
TW still has the Havoc ones in stock.

Im sure I am missing some others but in the 4" version on Berkleys website these colors have disappeared.
I did get the automated email saying they got mine. Guess it may be a day or two before I get a response.
I meant the baits, not the colors. Sorry for the ambiguity of my statement.
Found some 3" & 4" Havoc Pit Boss at Academy in KS. Had 2 packs of Saphire Blue, & had several Junebug, Californian

Did it seem like there were diminished inventory that hasn't been replaced in a while?

Exactly, very short supply & still $ 2.99
OK so I contacted Berkley and here is what I asked and what I just received.
QuoteHey I have noticed a lack of certain colors in the Havoc Pit Boss line up. Lime Purple Passion and Sapphire Blue come to mind. What is the deal? Also quite a few of us are hearing rumors your going to slime our favorite baits with power bait snot. We really really like the bait as it was. Please please set the story straight.
QuoteThank you for contacting Berkley.
The Lime Purple Passion and Sapphire Blue are discontinued baits.
You may find them on website www.ffo_tackle.com.
As far as the bait adding “Power bait snot” we have not heard of this changes in our baits.
Please visit our website at www.berkley-fishing.com for Havoc available baits for 2017.

I did send another in hopes of getting more information.
QuoteWell I didn't mean to offend with "snot" just its slimy to me and other anglers.
There are many of us on fishing forums that are getting mixed information about the Havoc Pit Boss line and really are wanting to know what if any changes are coming to one of our favorite baits.
Is there other colors that are being discontinued?
So there are no plans to put the Havoc Pit Boss line into the Power Bait line up?
Thank you for clarifying some of this.
Awaiting a response back.

I got the new BassPro 2017 Catalog and the pit boss is only listed under powerbait in the catalog.

Yeah I felt the person responding was a secretary that really didn't know and really didn't investigate to much into what was going on. This is why I asked more. Thank you for the information I will make sure to address that conflict in another email.
The last response just came and I feel this person is a foreigner with limited English skills or is purposely avoiding the Powerbait discussion.
QuotePlease visit our website for all of your Havoc baits which are available at the website below.
Yes those (2) colors are discontinued.
Thanks.

Yes that was the entire response.
The Pit Boss seemed to have been their most popular/best seller in the Havoc line, I'm surprised they discontinued some of these colors.
That being said I went around the internet last night and grabbed the discontinued colors I liked, hope they bring them back at some point. Until then I'll have to store these carefully in the "use sparingly" bin.
Found one package of 4" at Academy. Thanks to my daughter for hunting these down for me.
Just scored 15 bags of Lime-purple passion and 18 bags of sapphire blue. At least I'll get through this year.
I don't even fish these baits and and even I'm getting afriad of running out!
The Sapphire Blue is still available from GM

I just ordered four packs of Lime Purple Passion from Academy if anyone is hunting some. Free shipping at $25. The weird thing was they were advertised as 10 in a pack and 4 1/2". According to the SKU, they are 4". Academy is weird about marking stuff like that. But I usually receive orders in two days from them. Really only wanted that color for a trailer as I just ordered a bit of structure bugs and have a ton of d-bombs for pitching and punching.

The scent may be objectionable (to some) but even when soaking wet (has been in the water a long time), I've never found Powerbait to be slimy at all. Gulp, on the other hand, very much so.

Need to order some Mend-it too. I now regret all those baits I've tossed that still had a fish or two left in them.
I always thought they were great for the money.. but I wouldn't freak if they dissapeared.. d**n sure wouldn't go crazy about discontinued colors.. some of you guys need a nice deep breath.
Two of their colors that stand out compared to any other trailer on the market - Lime Purple Passion and Vampire Orange. The Lime Purple Passion on a brown-purple jig were made for each other, and the Vampire Orange on a black or black-red jig looks killer.

I wasn't referring literally to it as a slimy substance. It and other scents I was just generally speaking of are not something I want to deal with.
Just grabbed 3 bags of 4" Skywalker and a bag of 3" Watermelon orange flake
21st time I've seen either one in store
Skywalker looks pretty sweet

The best flipping bait/colors around here. Caught a lot of fish and won a lot of money with them. Nothing imitates a bluegill like a lime-purple passion pit boss with the tail dipped in chartreuse and pitchedinto the willows. I've tried lots of others, nothing has come close. I'm going to keep buying them up while I can get them for normal price.
We all know confidence is key.. I'm sure if they stopped making them you'd still find your way into the money though..I'm a firm believer it's the fisherman , and timing , place , technique over style/color of bait. Not that style and color can't make a difference...
@Bluebasser86 was out of town and saw a Gander Mountain that looked like they were shutting it down permanently dang it was odd feeling there. Turned out they had 8 bags of 4" Lime Purple Passion. The down side is I know why it was closing or dang near a ghost town. Their competition Academy 3 minutes down the road kicked their ass on everything. I paid $3.49 + tax on every bag. I felt horrible for all of 2 seconds.
