I thought this would be fun to see the replies. What is the most widely accepted or used lure that you personally have just never tried? And I don't mean the latest trend that you haven't bought into (yes that means whopper plopper cannot be an answer), I mean lures that have been around for a long time and have been a staple for many, but not you. Think Jitterbug, Senko, rooster tail.
For me I have never actually fished a true senko, only knock-offs. I actually still have a pack of white senkos from years ago I never get around to opening.
A genuine Senko .
Good question. I have never tried the GYB Flappin Hog creature bait & down here in the South I notice that many guys fish the Hog more than any other bait.
I think I own just about every Hard bait, But that certainly does not mean I have ever used them. I really want to get into the bigger lures this year, big swimbaits, Topwaters, plastics etc...
Didn't catch any fish over 7.5lbs this year & I think it was because of my Light line addiction I am having a hard time kicking. I plan on getting one of those MS Slammer's that Bluebasser is always posting with good size Bass on it, My buddy always throws that big Spro Frog and he seems to catch just as many bass as on normal sized frogs, but usually gets some bigger fish. I always assumed it was too big and hook up percentage would be poor, but I may have been wrong.
The Strike King Red Eye Shad!!! I have a nice selection of lipless baits but the Red Eye Shad, it may be because my buddy uses that bait exclusively and he has yet to beat me when there is a lipless bite going on.

Gotta use what works for ya.
After one season fishing the RES, I SOLD almost EVERY Rat-L-Trap I owned ( in the BR Flea Market & to Keri May as I recall).
Did keep the 1 oz Mag Traps for south of the border.
btw, does your buddy put hooks on those baits ?

So what is your preferred brand?
I have never really fished a senko "correctly". I have tried them t-rigged, but end up working them fastlike a fluke. I have tried them wacky rigged, but never for long enough to really get a sense of what I am doing.
Drop shot.
I have never used a Jitterbug, fluke, or drop shot.

Do you bounce them on the bottom ? Thats where the RES shines . Chunking and winding , heck I still throw Bayou Boogies and Pico Perches .
Not sure if this fits the rules, but I have three Mega Bass Pop Max lures, two of which have hit the water a handful of times, the third is a virgin. They do nothing for me so they sit in my topwater box and I ignore them.
Whopper Plopper!
Can not tell y'all what one looks like!
Lucky Craft Sammy, when I used to frequent a forum on River Smallie fishing, this was the one bait you must have, to this day I have yet to splurge and purchase one.

Ya gonna have to fix that!
Dropshot for me too but hope to change that. Also never fished a soft plastic frog only hollow bodies.

@j bab - Throw it at the bank and reel it back ~
I will also regrettably add that I may not your best buzz bait information source ~
As I caught exactly TWO bass on buzzbaits last season . .

Drop Shot and a swing head.

Never used one of these RES never owned one either. I have seen in the bait shop though.

Can't really think of any popular ones I haven't used. I don't use much from Rapala, including the very popular DT line. I don't use Megabass jerkbaits despite being a jerkbait junky.
Buzzbait for me as well
A-rigs and Whopper Plopper are the first two that comes to mind.

My preferred brand has changed names but it use to be the Xaclibur One Knocker, and the follow up is the Sebile Flatt Shad. For some reason the painted Xcalibur one knockers just kill and if they aren't hitting those hard, the Flatt Shads will get bit. I have Lucky Craft LV 150s and 250s as well as the Spro Aruku Shads and none of them work as well as the Xcalibur and the Sebile. I do have a few others that are niche baits but those two just seem to get bit all the time no matter how I use them.
Soft plastic beavers

Better stop wasting time with whatever else you're pitching lol
Drop shot. I wouldn't know where to start either.

Been pitching craws almost exclusively. Yeah, I agree. Gonna get to it this year coming up.
Probably a Carolina Rig. I used to throw them years ago but it has been a good while since I have fished one. I toss a crankbait maybe once or twice a year. Tried a scrounger head once and have never used it again. I have used most baits before just some are not used much or often at all.

Thanks to you I have one of these sitting in my Amazon cart. Haven't placed the order yet, but I'm a sucker for anything topwater so it's only a matter of time. This year I found a great place below a dam on a river for smallies that barely gets touched. No boat access and very limited bank access so it's a kayak fishing haven.
a spook.
Jitterbug
A Silver Buddy, a worm over 6", floating worm, topwater mouse (rubber),
Here is anyother shocker; I have never really seriosly fished a weighted t-rigged worm.
I even have three 3000 boxes made up as little kits for them at three sizes but have never given them their time on the water.
ive never used a chatterbait, i own one but cant recall ever tying it on.
Also, i guess this thread has expanded from lures to techniques, because drop shot is not a lure in itself, just a technique...
I have not used several of the very popular Rage tail products like the menage or bug.........for no good reason other than I haven't yet. On the other hand, several Rage tail products are mainstays in my bag of tricks, like the single tail grub, the toad, and the shad.
I have not used any of the popular Koppers realistic looking stuff. Seems expensive to me, and I catch plenty of fish on less expensive more traditional looking baits.
Keitech baits are very popular around here, but I have never bought or used any.
Ned rigs have not found their way into my rotation yet.
There's a ton of popular Rapala baits I have never used, but also I ton I have like the DT's, shad raps, and x-raps. They always caught plenty of fish, but I get way more "duds" out of the box with Rapala than almost any other bait brands combined, and they seem to fall apart quickly on me. Kind of puts me off on buying any more.
I am not sure I have ever used a Bill Norman crankbait.............if I have it was along time ago, and I have no idea what it was.
I have never used any of the higher priced hard baits from companies like Jackall, Megabass, etc..
I have never bought/used the Gene Larew brand biffle bugs or heads, I do fish wobble head jigs with creature/craw/beaver style baits, just not the Larew brand.
lucky craft pointer
ned rig
A zerra spook for me. Anytime I hit the topwater bite I'm throwing a frog or jitterbug.
Bronze eye frogs would be another.
For me, it's a skirted jig. To be honest, I did use one about 25 years ago and to my surprise, I caught a nice bass on one but I haven't used one since. Today, I've got a box full of them, but never pull one out.
I haven't used a swimjig, per se. I've used most types of baits but not all the popular ones of each type. I haven't used a paddle tail or cut tail worm.
I've never fished a chatterbait
Jitterbug
Ned rig.
Tom
Take yer pick of what popular lure I've never used!!!!
Plenty of them, LOL.
Gimme a good wacky rig or a good drop shot and I'll
be just fine

How did you make up 3000 t rigged worms? I'm trying to picture how this is done seriously. Do you have worms rigged with hooks and a leader line pre rigged with a weight in like ziplock bags?
As close as I ever came was I had purchased some hooks thinking they were like 3-5 in a pack supposedly came with bullet weights. Turned out it was 1 hook and 1 bullet weight per pack. Taught me to not go so fast on the internet ordering. The only texas pre rigged worm is on my rods.
The pop max (although that's about to change), chatterbaits, and lc gunfish.

Hah, I wasn't clear. I meant three Plano 3000 series boxes. Like this:
I make little self contained kits that I can just grab and go without worrying if I have forgotten anything.
Tubes. Definitely tubes. No tubes for me. jj
This topic fits right in with my 2017 Fishing Resolution:
Its always been hard for me to try new things when I stay consistent and catch bass with my Senkos, crankbaits, booyah frog and spinnerbaits. But I have spent the off season buying some tackle that's different for me. So my 2017 Fishing Resolution is to learn and use the following:
1) Ned Rig (although I have fished grubs on lead heads)
2) Drop Shot
3) Fluke
4) the umbrella rig

I've been fishing "Ned rigs" for decades, I just never knew the name.
Always called them a grub on a jighead.
I've never fished an A-rig or any crankbait that costs over $10.

Ned rig consists of a Z-Man 1/15 to 1/6 oz mushroom head jig and TRD worm, dart and pea head jig & worm or grub dates back decades and fish with those all the time.
Tom
Ned rig for me too. No plans to use one.
I don't have any Megabass jerkbaits.
I don't throw the Ned rig. If they will hit that, they'll hit a tube and I have hundreds of tubes.
I don't have any underspins but that will change this year. I can see a scenario where that could be great.
I don't have any articulated football jig heads but can see a scenario where that could be really effective.
Don't have any blade baits and don't see where I will. Sorry A-Jay.

Certainly no apology necessary Doug, there may be a chance that the largest bass in your local population appreciate that.
Also ~ I don't have any Megabass baits either - maybe the BR Santa will send me one next year
BTW ~ Happy Birthday ! !

Swim Jig and Carolina Rig for me!
Never thrown an a-rig and have no plans to. I've only made a few casts using a Carolina rig. For some reason I just don't have a desire to use a Carolina rig although I use the Texas rig 99% of the time.
Trick Worm.
Gomer's Electric Swamp Donkey (by Splash Craft)
Okay...so it's not 'real' popular

Not really. A lot of Midwest finesse fishermen prefer gopher mushroom heads, between the weights of 3/32 oz. and 1/32 oz. The most versatile and used weight is 116 ounce, and none of the midwest finesse fishermen use heads weighing more than 3/32 ounce, and certainly not a 1/6 ounce jig. Z-man made the heavier jig heads without doing much for research, just trying to jump on on all of the hype surrounding the Ned rig. Some people are buying the heavier jigs because they think that the have to feel the bait, and thinking that the ned rig is always fished on the bottom. But a big part of successfully fishing the Ned rig is mastering the "no feel retrieve", you don't want to actually feel the bait. And counter to popular belief, the Ned rig is usually slowly swam just above the bottom, often while subtly shaking the rod tip.
The majority of new comers to Ned rigging are now using the TRD, but the original bait is half of a zinkerz (or SK zero, they're the same bait) with the salt removed, along with several other small baits under four inches. I still prefer and use half of a zinkerz, it is much softer than the TRD which gives it better movement.

This the reason I prefer 1/8 oz dart jig and 4 1/2" curl tail worm because it works. Take a look at the ZMan site.

I never the tried Trick Worm until about 4 years ago when my buddy killed me on them. After I watcched him catch half a limit, he finally threw me a couple. Now I keep one tied on and I'll use them for any worm method. I just bought a bag magnum size.
I have another buddy who only fishes when he's with me and the Bubble Gum TW, weightless is all he ever uses. It produces year-round.
