Bank Guys, Are You Using A Bag, Box Or Backpack? 2024

fishing user avatarjitterbug127 reply :

I have both a plano tackle bag and backpack. I gave up on hard boxes, just like trays better. I keep going back and forth on which to use. I like the backpack because it keeps my gear out of way, but the bag is easier to organize. I just wanted some more opinions on this.the bag is always falling off my shoulder lugging 2 poles a net etc. I feel like once i get a boat it will be bag only all the time but til then i am just not sure. I hate buying a tackle bag and not using it but man the backpack is easier.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I use a spider wire sling pack. Bought at DSG. Comes with a little plano box.

fishing user avatargulfcaptain reply :

I carry/use a waste pack I can fit 2 3600boxes in, my worm binder, and a small box of assorted weights and hooks as well as any other odds and ends in the 3 pockets.  Great thing about it, I can slip the 1 or 2 rods I'm not fishing between the pack up against my back and they are out of the way.  Need to swap, I have my quiver of rods I can reach back and pull one out and slip the other in the seam.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

When I'm out in a boat I bring the bag with everything in it. When I am fishing from the bank I carry a Plano box with me. The bag just weighs too much to lug around.

fishing user avatarBasshunterJGH reply :

I use my hunting day pack with 2 3700s, 1 3600, and a 3500. A pack is a lot easier especially if you're carrying a couple rods.

fishing user avatarjitterbug127 reply :

Awesome. I can keep everything i own in my bag and it weighs under 15 lbs. My stuff is very specific for where i fish. Basically theough trial and error i sold anything i didnt hit with. Weight isnt issue just convenience vs intended purchase i guess

fishing user avatarMatthew2000 reply :

If your not carrying much bag

fishing user avatarAngry John reply :

I use a bag when i am in my yak and when i ride in anothers boat.  I use my back pack when shore fishing or even wadeing in a stream.  I do not have a fishing dedicated back pack but a regluar one works just fine for me.  I dont bring a net so that is a situation i have not come threw yet!

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

backpack for soft plastics and a plano satchel tackle box for everything else. works perfect

fishing user avatardeep reply :

None of the above. If it doesn't fit in one of my pockets, I don't need it to catch fish.

I hope you at least wear painters pants so you have a lot of pockets!!!! :respect-059:

fishing user avatardeep reply :

Not sure what they're called, but it does have several pockets. Seriously though, I don't fish a bunch of different baits.

fishing user avatarthunderballs reply :

When I fish from the bank I use a tackle bag.

fishing user avatardrodriguez reply :

Currently, I'm using a tactical military pack. For 25 bucks at a sportsmen's convention I can carry 4 3600 tackle boxes, 2 2 tray 3700 boxes by Plano, and pliers, line cutters, etc. The main problem I have with it is the zippers keep breaking on me. The straps are annoying. Over all I carry more than I need, especially for bank fishing. I also carry a bass master bag to carry my soft plastics. That is totally worth it.

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Satchel, more specifically this BPS one:

Or

Same thing but different color.

when I bank beat I work several lures off of one rod that can do various techniques. I usually have 2 3701 slim boxes but it'll fit double

fishing user avatarEvanT123 reply :

I just use a regular backpack; tried a tackle bag and found hopping from rock to rock the tackle bags momentum would throw off me off.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I put a couple things in my pockets and go. Bank trips are usually short so I don't have time to change baits a bunch anyways.

fishing user avatarSuspendingjerk reply :

I just use my old ugly stick tackle bag. I can carry 4 plano boxes and tons of soft plastics in the sides and front pockets.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

Yes, yes, and yes-though one of my boxes has recently been relegated to storing extra baits, line, hooks, sinkers, etc. which won't fit in my backpack, other box, or soft bag.  My "system" is in constant flux and I'm always looking for better ways to carry everything.

Spider Wire Tackle Backpack. Has 2 Rod holders and tons of room for everything. Got it at Dicks Sporting Goods

You must have some big pockets to fit those huge swimbaits in them like the one in your profile picture!

What they said ^^^  I make a lot of trips throughout the year where I just don't feel like, or have the time to, take the boat. When I do, I pretty much tie one bait on and throw a few others in an old lure box along with a pair of snips, and put it all in my pocket and go. Only one rod and reel, too. For me, bank fishing is all about ease of mobility. Any more tackle than the above hinders that.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

Bag...Although I hate it. Abu garcia veritas bag. 4 3700s. Wears on your shoulders after a while. It can also throw your balance off. Nice for taking onto bass boat though.

Want a backpack but they are expensive...the backpack I own is too worn out to use.

fishing user avatarBassfink86 reply :

I use the Camelbak BFM, biggest bag they make, you can fit just about any combo of boxes, bags, binders, etc. that you could possibly want.  the only downside with all that space is that, if you're like me, you want to fill it. So you end up taking too much, but its nice know that you have the space if you need it.

fishing user avatarwisconsin heat reply :

Depends on where I am and what I want to do.

I keep all of my tackle in 3600's and 3700's in my car. If I am going to walk down a bank away from my car I have a few options:

1. Just stick to one bait (almost never do this haha)

2. Bring a few baits with.

If I am using a T-rig or a jig or plastics, I will just throw a few plastics of a few different colors and styles into one bag (like the ones that the baits come in) and I will carry that around in my back pocket.

If I am using a hardbait, I am using a snap and I can change them quickly, I will put some baits in one of these - (they can hold a 4 inch jerkbait / multiple cranks, spinerbaits, you name it. And they will fit in a jacket pocket.

post-26011-0-09315300-1418695937_thumb.j

3. If I want to take a longer walk and I am not sure on what will work, or I want to try multiple things I sometimes take this because it can hold a bit of tackle and it isn't in the way.

Yeah they do! they have a bunch on the TW website, from the makers of Wild River, Flambeau, Shimano, Okuma and TW has their own model as well.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

If I could replaced my backpack, it would be with either the Abu Garcia Veritas backpack or the Tackle Warehouse backpack. I can't stand tackle boxes, backpacks are so much easier for moving around.

fishing user avatarjitterbug127 reply :

Well back to the backpack it is

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

I use a Spiderwire backpack when fishing from shore or my kayak.  It holds 4 boxes, a towel or rain coat, all my soft baits, and 2 rods.  It's very well build and has held up great for two seasons.  I got it at Dicks. Overall, A++.

fishing user avatarJtrout reply :

A Swiss army back pack holds all the tackle you need

fishing user avatarIAY reply :

I just use some old messenger style bag, that I don't care about getting it dirty.

fishing user avatar*Hank reply :

fishing user avatartimsford reply :

I use a school backpack with 2 side pockets. 2 3700's and one slim 3600 in the main compartment. Tools.in the front compartment. And soft plastics in the 2 side.compartments

I always have my backpack when bank fishing. Keeps all of the tackle and tools you need and its small and very portable

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

I brown bag it.

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

Here is the Spiderwire backpack some of us use plus me included. Just showing what it holds. It comes with three tackle trays. I put plastics, and leader in the top portion that's zipped up, and put my attractants, bugspray little first aid kit in the side pockets. It also comes with a pliers holder which you can remove and hang on your belt. I leave it on the bag and have my side cutters and ring pliers in it. I have a sheath with needle nose, hemo stat, and shears in it which I carry on my belt.

Man, you bring a lot more stuffs than I do. I usually stick to one technique that I want to fish with, working or not.

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

If I am walking the bank I will take a backpack. I normally throw hard baits/frogs/terminal tackle in a 3700 Plano and stick it in the backpack, then put a gallon size ziplock with plastics in it. It also leaves room for pliers and a bottle of water and maybe an extra shirt if its cold, or some extra stuff.  Its just more comfortable to walk around with a backpack. And you can fish with it on if you just want to hit a certain spot real quick, before moving on

I do, I go to more than one body of water during a fishing outing. Ill use different techniques for different spots . Sometimes Ill just grab a couple of things, and leave the bag in my vehicle. I will be downsizing by the time spring gets here. I'm still figuring out what works best when and where, and getting rid of stuff I don't even use like that giant swim bait for example. Probaply get rid of some of those shad colored baits also because there aren't any shad where I fish. So this will be temporary.

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

I use a tactical vest with full web-gear, and storm the bank with my high capacity baitcaster, in a full out amphibious assault.

fishing user avatarcoak reply :

I use a military medic bag I took when I got out of the Army.  I'm also thinking of using an older alice pack without the frame for more storage in the future when I'm fishing out of my buddies boat.  The medic bags are designed perfectly for me to wade the river and have my stuff slung over one shoulder for quick access and easy grabbing.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Gym bag.

An old gym bag which holds everything I need.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

None of the aforementioned items.  Bank fishing it's 1 rod and a couple of lures in my pocket or a bag of flukes with a few extra hooks.  Don't need anything else.

fishing user avatarhoosierbass07 reply :

I'm thinking of getting one of these cheap fanny/waste packs and try to put some some small cases of fishing tackle in it.  Anybody use something like this?

Backpack.

fishing user avatarhoosierbass07 reply :

OK, I went to Walmart and bought that fanny pack. lol.  Only ten dollars.  I tried it on and it seems comfortable.  It just might be a good light bank fishing bag.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

fishing user avatarBruce424 reply :

Bps backpack. It's alright. Lots of room for stuff. Just lightened it up a week ago. You don't realize how heavy it can get when ya carry everything with you. Haha.

fishing user avatarMFBAB reply :

I'm using 2 fanny packs.

- One has mostly finesse or soft plastic gear in it

- The other has mostly Power Fishing stuff

They both hold a few of the small sized plano boxes and some ziploc bags w various things, and a couple of outside pockets for pliers, snips, sunscreen, etc...

I pick up the one I need based on the pond I'm going to, obviously there are some overlapping baits in each one, but these probably only weigh about 10 lbs each, so I am able to stay mobile and hands free.

The small size also makes it easy (read necessary) to cull out unneeded tackle and baits, you tend to only bring the ones you really need this way :)

These both stay in my car all the time, I just bring them in once in a while to restock or change the rotation around a little.

My fishing life has gotten a lot simpler since going to this system, instead of bringing the whole world with me :)

I was carrying five tackle boxes with five rod setups. Now just a few tackle boxes with five rod setups.

A topwater box Plano 9606

A crankbaits box Plano 9606

A weedless box smaller barn roof box

The other boxes are in the car near by. I'm a color freak. I'm a tackle hoarder, I have 17 tackle boxes with every bait u can think of. I have those large green spinnerbait boxes (15) filled with every plastic u can think of.

I purchased most of this before I retired so I need nothing to fish if things got tight.

Here's more I carry. My kids laugh at me but I go loaded with a little of everything. I do switch baits often. Everyone goes in the pool. That row of Norman thin N's is every color they offer. I have most baits in every size and color. I try to keep it neat, fishing in the dark taught me this. Most of what I buy I give to six family members too. Dad keep them fishing. They do presentations better than me the gals are awesome.

I've found myself pond hopping more these days. I've got a three yr old that's not ready for boat fishing for over ten minutes yet so here's what I've tried. I've bought 3 backpacks ( the academy pack, the Browning pack, and the Abu slingpack) of these the sling pack gets the most use. It's just the right size for enough softplastics and terminal tackle plus a few hardbaits for pond trips. It's also easy to fish with on and doesn't impede your ability to chase down a toddler trying to catch whatever has caught his attention at that moment., but I would also recommend looking at some of the fly fishing packs. I've got an old school Williams and Joseph pack that works well also but be ready for some sticker shock fly fishing gear can get expensive quick.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Besides my tackle boxes I have a Magnum size boat bag full of everything too incase we go out on a boat. If I have to walk I down size.

I have a small soft Velcro pack I kept under my motorcycle seat with a telescopic rod with a zebco reel.
