what is everyones favorite topwater fishing bait ?
My favorite is the lucky craft sammy 100 in MS American Shad, especially for bronze fish. Although a 3/8 black buzzbait has caught me more big fish than any other bait.
Double Chugbug
Heddon Tiny Chugger in Black Shore Minnow. I am down to my last one. I wish they still made them, but they quit years back. I guess I'll have to start checking out ebay and tackle collecting sites to find some more.
1. Cavitron
2. RICO
3. Frog
The repo man
Sammy or Ima Roumba
Spring time: Lake Fork Magic shad 4.5 , Late spring: sammy, houdini shad and cavitron. Summer time after a heavy rain storm: cavitron. Fall: cavitron and floating wacky. Heavy cover: frogs.
The one below.
Bass like it too. The red paint is actually nail polish; bait got a little beat up after a lot of fishing and catching.
black buzz bait, more fish over 3lbs on that lure than any other individual lure.
1. Cavitron
2. Chug Bug
3. Rage Toad
LC Sammy
Pop-R!
1. Cavitron
2.Zell Pop
3.Top Dollar
Any dog walker, although the Spit'n Image always gets me out of a jam.
And, hopefully this for this this year:
3/8oz tri-wing with a steel rivet for some added noise.
Hi guys

Hey jigfishn10,is that a SK tri-buzz? If you haven't tried one yet,i'm sure you'll like it..Love my cavitrons, but i had a cheap old, beat up tri-wing sitting in the truck that i put a new black/gold skirt on one bored lunch break..
last summer i was walking the banks of my favorite lake one VERY foggy,pea-soup evening on a last minute decision and only had a few lures in my truck at the time and put that sucker on and slammed some of the best bass of my entire season. Gives off a slow and low plopping sound!
1: Rage Toad
2: Heddon Pop'n Image in baby bass color
3: Devil Horse
Cavitron - especially in black
Spook and buzzbait although I did pick up a Sammy in Ghost Minnow at the Dicks sale and can't wait to throw it in Lake Erie when the water is running clear.

It is an old SK Buzz King Blade, but I made it on a different head. I couldn't find any more blades online, so I made a couple of more blades in different colors. You can't have just one, right? LOL
Thanks for the feedback, I'm looking forward to fishing this, for sure!
Swimbait style - 3:16 Wake Jr and 9" MS Slammer
Poppers - Excalibur Zell Pop & Yellow Magic for waking erratic retrieves
Heddon ( old Excalibur ) - slow retrieve with that bloop sound
Walikng - R.I. Vixen - really ticks them off
original Zara Spook - early moring quiet retrieve over calm water
Lucky Craft Gunfish - walks and pops, does everything well. Can fish it slow & subtle or fast & erratic. Awesome bait
I can't believe that in 34 replies, no one has mentioned the mighty Jitterbug.
Am I that old?
Tom
spook, sammy 100....any walk the dog action!
ok well here it goes......
gunfish, spro frog, rage toad, cavitron buzzbait, but my number #1 bait without a doubt, that has only been mentioned in 1 post in 3 pages and it was the guys 3rd choice has to be.............
Devils horse! Guys throw these more often! You will be amazed at what the tried and true lure can produce. Here let me help you with just a couple last years fish!
these are just a couple devils horse pictures!! TRUST ME THEY WORK!!
Jeff
(I do not work for any lure company and I do not get paid by any lure company, but if they wish to after reading my post feel free to contact me! )
BUZZBAIT
I am with 00 Mod..... the classics
JItterbug
Popper (chug bug, Hula Popper)
Torpedo
Lots of people on here dislike the torpedo and say it catches dinks...... I will hapily catch just about any fish, large or small, jumping up and wacking a topwater. I also think it produces a large fish it buzzes right past.
Those picks made me go straight to a storage box and move the old Devil's Horse from storage to in the box..... Torpedo might have to take a back seat.
what chu talkin bout! the JB was mentioned in my post, and always have at least 3 in the box! This year i started fishing the bigger/jointed 5/8th ouncer, and i must say the quality has improved, and i dont think the smaller bass are ignoring it either at dusk!..how do you like the CRAZY CRAWLER..Thats one i forgot to mention..man,if you get it right,it just begs for a slob to slam it!!On 2/3/2012 at 4:50 AM, tholmes said:I can't believe that in 34 replies, no one has mentioned the mighty Jitterbug.

#1 Popmax
#2 Mouldy's Hawg Wobbler (the 7/8 ounce)
#3 Yellow Magic
#4 Sammy
#5 Spook
Without a doubt my favorite is the Heddon Torpedo. I've caught so many bass with this bait and a fair number of bluegill. You can fish it slow with occassional twitches or fast like a buzzbait.
The Ragetail Shad! I've caught more fish on the RT Shad than any other topwater lure. You can fish it through thick grass or brush, and it gets BIG fish!
Heddon Dying Flutter in firetiger
The very old Pfluger wooden popper. Only have a few left.
Heddon Pop'n Image. You can walk the dog or fish it like a normal popper.
1/4 oz buzzbait
Spook
Long A
Just got to be, positively, hollow body frogs
Rapala Skitterpop #7 Lime Frog. Followed closely by rage shad, 1/4 ounce cavitron buzzbait, and a frog colored spook jr.

That's a darn good one too. Can't wait to try the new X - rap popper too.

Ooops! my mistake, I must have missed your post. You're right, the Crazy Crawler is another classic topwater bait that's in my arsenal.
Tom
jitterbug late night or hula popper
Rico
Sammy 100
Gunfish 115
Zara Spook Jr
PopMax
Duel side popper
1. Zara spook in clear color, that's right clear, buddy said "what do you think you going to catch on that piece of broom stick that they can't even see" about that time he sees a huge smb jump out of the water landing mouth open on the lure. What a sight, topwater is awesome! Many a 5lb smb has fallen to this one for me.
2. spook jr, try them in small to medium streams for smb in the open flat areas that are 3 to 4 feet deep. They'll come racing for it clear from the other bank.
3. tiny hula poppers, they are maybe 1.5" to 2" long. Can't find them any longer . Only have 2 left in the aresenal. They are deadly on lmb fished around weebeds & such.
Zara Spook, I just love walking the dog. But I have caught more bass on a devil's horse.
Double prop buzzbait (great on the edges of heavy cover or over barely submerged grass, gotta be quick starting retrieve), RageTail Shad, PopR, heavy cover frog.
Black BuzzBait any time of the year best luck just after dark with them though or Floating Pumpkin Ribbit Frog at day break seems to do the trick every time
<-------Buzzjet, when bass are in the mood, this lure gets bit!
Cavitron 1/4 black has worked best for me
Jitterbug
pop-r
hollow bodied frog
had some great blow-ups on the Rage Shad but missed them all... guess maybe they weren't so "great" eh?
Snag proof Phat frog. Pop-r, a big black jitterbug.
BUZZ BAIT...............
I love a rattling zara spook on quiet mornings and evenings. Live target frogs have been good to me in heavy cover as well.
