Are your tackle boxes ready for opener? 2024

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Kindof early but I took out my new tackle box to get it ready. One more case to fill and then I have a smaller one Id like to fill too. Anyone else start getting theres ready? ;)

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Yes and no.

Lures ready for Lake Gaston but not for Buggs Island.

Still need to secure pliers, gloves, eyeglasses strap, sunglasses, maps and something to eat and drink.

Will do this on Friday, if not sooner.

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

Mine is always ready to go, I never stopped fishing for the winter. I clean up the tackle box and wipe down my lures after every outing, that way it is always ready for the next trip. I have a huge tackle box filled with every thing I need at all times. The only drawback is the weight, approximately 50lbs.

fishing user avatarPond Hopper reply :

For the most part other than a *** order I have on the way and a 2x4 from Fourbizz.  They have only been sorted half a dozen times.  :;)

fishing user avatarjbsoonerfan reply :

I just got mine ready to go. And now it is snowing, so it may be a while before I get out. The only nice days I have had this year I was busy. Oh well, I am ready.

fishing user avatarrocknfish9001 reply :

I tried organizing everything yesterday. Ive got it pretty good, except i have too many soft plastics to take with me on all trips and keep them organized.

fishing user avatar=Matt 5.0= reply :

been messing with mine all winter. Only 3 weeks to go.....

fishing user avatarmjhutch1116 reply :

I bought a new boat this year so I had the chance to totally go thru my tackle and reorganize all of it including the 435 dollars worth I bought at bps last month.  All tackle, rods, reels, and new boat ready to go.

Matt

fishing user avatarrfrazier reply :

I play with my gear all the time, think my roomate is weirded out haha.  I'm itching for a *** order, but I'm ready to fish.  ;)

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Your lucky. Ive got like 6 or 7 weeks to wait! I dont think it was the right time to take my tackle box out yet but hey. Now I can make it perfect.

fishing user avatarfatmanslim247 reply :

I just bought a yellow waterproof floating duffle bag from bps, took my individual holders and put in there.  I organized my plastics into three rubbermaid boxes that are in that bag.  It weighs atleast 30 pounds

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Ill have to get a scale to weigh mine. Ive got well over 100.00 maybe over 200.00 into mine. Should I tie a rope to mine and then the bote just incase?

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

People still use tackle boxes?  :-?

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Stays cocked, locked, & ready to rock  ;)

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

Sadly, I've been ready since January, but with two feet of ice on the lake and my canal, I fear it's going to be a while before I get to fish.

Our "season" never closes although our targets change in the Mid-South. It's still primetime for smallmouth and sauger around here. Green fish should be coming on shortly, but for me, it's almost striper season, too!

Most guys mix in white bass and crappie fishing in the early spring. A little later, monster bream and spots. Catfish fishing also picks up as the water warms. It's always a "great time of year" when the weather cooperates and the TVA releases a little water!

8-)

fishing user avatarTokyo Tony reply :

My tackle bag/tackle area was reorganized 5 times by the end of December, but since then it's gone to crap.  I have a lot of organizing to do before Saturday, which is gonna be jerkbait bass/pickerel/crappie/perch bonanza  ;D

All my lakes will be open by then.  It's almost 50 here in Hartford, CT, and raining.

fishing user avatarPopeye reply :

Ready, opened, and used x4 since mid Feb. Sure hope all you folks back East have an EARLY Spring so you can get out there after 'em!!!

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Yup, I acctually downsized this winter. Only go with 5 boxes. 2 contain jigs (they weigh about 20 pounds a piece, one spinnerbait box, a box of lipless cranks, and one of jerks and shallow cranks.  O ya.. but I have about 50 pounds of plastics. :;)

fishing user avatartyrius. reply :

Most certainly!!  It's quite difficult to carry a boat around the shoreline of the ponds that I fish.  It's much easier to pack a backpack tacklebag full of gear and use that!

fishing user avatarBass n Bows reply :

I'm getting there.  Just need a few more stand up jigheads, and maybe a few more jerkbaits, some hornytoads or ragetails, and some finesse worms!  Spool up my spinning reels and I'm ready to go!

fishing user avatartritz18 reply :

I started getting my boxes ready half way through winter  ;D  hope to get out this weekend for a little shore fishing if weather is warm

fishing user avatarjrhennecke reply :

I keep my gear ready year round.

fishing user avatarHooked_On_Bass reply :

Oh yeah! I've organized it a dozen times and will probably do it another dozen times before the season opens. It seems that I need to organize it every time I get a new bait. :;)

fishing user avatarsmallieking reply :

mine is never ready  there are always a few baits out there that i can always find a spot in the box somewhere    lol but for the most part im ready for 08!!!!!

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

I not only prepped my tacklebox but also a friends.  His looked like a tornado hit it and I couldn't bear to see such a catastrophy.  If I'd needed an example for a PhD dissertation on chaos theory, his tackle box would have fit the bill nicely).  But actually, it was fun to put some order in that 14" X 7" plastic box.

Tackle box

The only people I see carrying those are old people and young kids.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I have a small OLD PAL metal box, with one tray I keep in the truck for pond fishing and I GUESS I AM AN OLD GUY!

fishing user avatarShadcranker reply :

My tackle is always organized. It is therapy for me in the evenings. Some folks enjoy a cocktail or a fine cigar after work.

Me, I like triming jigs, and sorting soft palstics into zip lock bags by type. I have a "man cave" in my basement complete with TV, refrigerator, fishing tackle room, collection of 15 years of fishing mags, and all my tackle catalogs. I can always find something to tinker with down there.

It is a sickness, but hey, it beats most other obsessions I know of.

fishing user avatarPhishin Fillip reply :

I'm really low on supplies but things are looking much better.  I have hit e-bay for a few good deals that I'm really happy about.  Sweet for rapalas that are normally too expensive.  Of course you also have to take into account shipping

fishing user avatarpowerman970 reply :

Where you fishin' Cooter?  I live in Leeds so I'm just a few minutes from you.  I usually fish Neely Henry but I have a membership at Sportsman's Lake.  That's in your neck of the woods.  Just holler when you want to go.

Check Walmarts and Gandermountain. At wamart they had a case that has 1.00 lures. They have buzz baits and other stuff. At Gander they also have 1.00 lures. I LOVE THE CHEAP STUFF!!

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Ok poll added. Also, just respooled my pike/bass Daiwa Shock and respooled my mucky reel with 80lb test.

fishing user avatarBassinBoy reply :

fishing user avatarMN Basser reply :

Here in Minnesota, Bass doesn't open till May. I went out last week, and today to buy lures. I bought 6 or 7 packs of soft plastics, some jigs, and shakey heads. I've been pitchin' n flipin' in my room for weeks.....I am so amped up for May!

fishing user avatarFR0G reply :

I am just getting started stocking back up. I need to order more tackle boxes as mine are getting old and not as clear as they once were.

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

MN basser me too. Where in MN are you?

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Only a couple more weeks to ice out!!!!!!!!! I cant wait. I just got a new Musky rod, Im spooling my baitcaster, and checking out my plastics. Cant wait!

fishing user avatarJoel W reply :

The real question for me isn't if my tackle bag is ready for the season, but rather is my back ready to carry it ;D ;D

fishing user avatardougw82 reply :

I fish all year round and buy 2 or 3 lures a week.

fishing user avatarejtaylor822 reply :

Ready year round.  Keep a backpack tackle bag ready to go at a moments notice.  My larger one - the big Plano 3700 - I keep ready to go if going somewhere new. Keep everything but the kitchen sink in it just in case.....

fishing user avatarthetr20one reply :

Tackle remains ready. Been flippin around the house and yard all winter, but only my flippin stick has line on it. All other rods will be ready by Sunday.

fishing user avatarDaiwa reply :

Weve had a problem with cold weather and the ice still on lakes. Now we are in the 50s for the rest of the week and rain. It should be coming soon.

fishing user avatarMNGeorge reply :

Not ready yet because I'm waiting for some new Plano boxes.  I have time though.  Walleye opener is a month away and Bass doesn't open 'til May 24th.

fishing user avatarbassmaster911 reply :

I need to get all of my equipment together and organize it.
