Alright so I've tried some Livingston's and those didn't quite work for me. Now, some of you may say it isn't the lure and that it's me. Well I've switched lure brands before but kept the same type of lure and fishing seems to pick up so... I guess I am asking for your favorite brand. Some things to take into mind are color, durability, price, and of course presentation. Anything helps! Tight lines everyone!
Mine are the Xcaliburs. When I was buying them they were 4 bucks a pop. Good finish, good hardware, ran nice and straight.
Not every brand / model lipless bait has the same action, rattle sound & fall rate.
Each may have it's time & place where it might shine over another.
Day in & day out I have quite a bit of confidence in a 1/2 oz SK Red Eye Shad - both rattle & Silent.
The 6th Sense bait is good as is a couple of the Lucky Craft models and the Xcaliber One Knock is a solid producer.
Of course the industry standard will forever be the original Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap.
And though I haven't tried it yet, the Duo Realis G-Fix Vibration Tungsten Lipless Crankbait looks like it has potential.

I like the SK Red Eye Shads, and the old Xcaliber's............I am currently OUT of Xcaliber's thanks to the pike, and I don't love them enough to pay what people are asking for them now that they are discontinued. I'll keep the SK's, and probably pick up a few of the "new" Booyah branded baits which are supposed to.............."supposed to" be the same as the old Xcaliber baits. A third bait that flies under the radar a little but was very effective for me was the Storm Rockin' Shad.
The Xcaliber baits have been my favorite for a long time now. The RES are very good baits too.
For me it's the 1/2 oz Red Eye Shad, especially in Gold/Black Back!
SK redeye and CC Super Spot. I personally find the super spot works best for me on the fall, and redeye works good for me searching and cranking.
1/2oz for both. Whites and silver's are best in my area.
Kopper's Live target. Have had good success with them.
I'm in the Bill Lewis Rat-l-trap camp, but the SPRO Aruku shad is slowly finding it's way into the regular rotation.
I don't know what the best is, but what I've had the most success with have been Spro Aruku Shads followed by Yo Zuri rattlin vibes. Honestly it isn't even close and I throw lipless cranks on every outting.
Sebile Lipless cranks are flat out loud, fish catching machines.
I'm interested in this question too, I've never had a ton of success with lipless cranks but I'd like to learn to fish them better.
I have a few Xcalibur/Booyah one-knockers and like them, but my greatest success has come on a YoZuri 3db Vibe.

+1 Xcalibur XR50 & XRK50
First Bass of 2015

I've had the best luck on Traps but I also used them the most .
I tend to reach for the cotton Cordell super spot and the Bill Lewis rat l trap the most. I am going to pick up some red eye shads over the winter to try next year
Round here Bill Lewis Rattle-L-Traps still out produce em all
Are the xcalibur one knockers really that good? I have some but don't fish em much. I was picking up on Fork a cpl wks ago on the new Booyah one knocker.
Xcalibur xrk50. Catches everything.

They are a decent when the fish are responding favorably to a very loud & / or fast sinking bait.
If a slow fall & / or somewhat subdued or even silent lipless bait is called for, I'd reach for something else.

Lv-500 best size to weight ratio the 3/4 gets you down quick and it shimmys on the way down, best yoyoing lipless out

My favorite currently as well. Red Eye Shads have caught me plenty as well, I'll throw a Super Spot, Rat L Trap, or rattling rap (rapala) when I need one to run shallower. Ive been wanting to pick up a *** Filet because they are extremely light for their size; I'm guessing they run very very shallow.
Best Lipless crank for me is probably Strike King Red Eye Shad, the fall on these baits is ridiculous, they stay upright and shudder slowly while sinking. The fall is sometimes the key to getting bites on lipless cranks. BUT, I do love the Rat-L-Traps, their "super natural" line of colors are amazing, check out some of the sunfish style patterns they have. Sunrise perch and fathead minnow are winners.
No favorite, I throw about 6 different ones. Depends on what the fish want. the differences I find important are loudness, fall rate, attitude, and size. Also some are better for burning, others for ripping, and others for yoyoing. Be the vibe.
I'm really partial to the SK Red Eye Shads. I also have a couple of Cordell Spots that are almost beat beyond recognition.......and they still haul 'em in.
I like the XCaliburs. One knockers 50 size. Others work too.
For me it's the Xcalibur/Booyah XR series. I also use Cotton Cordell's. I have a handful of others that are in my box, but those two are the ones I reach for the most.
1. Strike King Red Eyed Shad Line of Lipless Crankbaits
2. Original Rat-L-Traps
Both work for me.
Strike King Red Eye Shad - Sexy shad color.
Agree with Xcalibur fans as the # 1, red eye shads, #2.
But give the new Rapala Rippin Raps a try. A friend had one on this fall and it really seemed to work well for smallmouths. Reviews indicate they even work well through the ice, vertically jigged.
I have found that even within a brand set of lipless cranks, some sizes work much better than others. I've never had much luck on the smaller ones, about 1/4 oz or less, and the bigger ones, those larger than about 5/8 or 3/4 oz. Seems like a sweet spot for most brands (at least for bass) in the 1/2-5/8 range.
1.) Xcalibur. The best. I've bought everyone I've seen for the last 6 months and now have a TON of them.
2.) Cotton Cordell. They work well and are cheap
3.) Rat-L-Trap
Had BAD luck with the stock hooks on Rat-L-Traps so I'm in the process of changing them all out. Generally my last choice but I have some and do throw them.
"BEST LIPLESS CRANKBAIT"
You don´t think you're going to come and ask such a thing and get away with just getting the "best" do you ?
In this hobby there is no such thing as "the best", there are productive baits, less productive or non productive and that does´t mean productive are so all the time, it means that you need to have several styles and sizes because as usual, one day one style/size works or works better than another.
The lipless cranks I fish the most are:
Heddon Sonic and Super Sonic ( discontinued )
Bill Lewis Rat L-Trap
Rapala Rattlin Rap
Bomber Rattlin´ RRR ( discontinued )
Heddon Bayou Boogie
Depends on the situation, if the water is cooling I tend to throw a rattle-trap. When the water warms I throw a red eye shad. My mental justification is that the rattle-trap's tighter wobble appeals to fish in cooling water. At the end of the day though, I feel the system works because I convinced myself it's the proper lure to throw at that time so I don't put it down, and less because that's how the fish feel.
I'm an original Bill Lewis guy myself.
Walleye like 'em too.
I like the Excalibur One Knockers and the LC lipless cranks. This year in the early fall I burned a gold LC lipless bait back as fast as I couod with a 8.0:1 ratio reel and had a bass hit it. Amazed me how fast bass can be when they really want a bait.
I can't believe no one mentionned the Rapala Rippin Rap ...by far my most productive rattler
I like the Sebile Seeker too
Like many other posters here, I have a handful of brand name lipless cranks. The SPRO Aruku Shad does something many others don't and that is stand up when sitting still on the bottom, looking more natural. A Sebile Flatt Shad has worked wonders a few times when others didn't. Same can be said about One Knockers, and the benchmark Rat-L-Trap has certainly outfished a Cordell Spot. I doubt there is a single "best" answer.
You might do what so many of us do and that is try various brands, colors and sizes because one will certainly outshine another on any given day.
The moral of this story is they all work. The BEST one is the one that is catching you fish and that you have the confidence in.

I think this says it well.

That's because I picked up a set of them back in 2013, and still have yet to try them...

I catch them with all the brands but rats are my favorite,i have about 7 brands all work and i aint paying over $5 for any of them.even discontinud pogo shads and suger shads work.
WolfyBrandon
WOW, I'm impressed! I wasn't expecting this many responses! Thanks to everyone who contributed something! I think I'm gonna try the XCalibur's and the Strike King Red Eye.
Cordell Super Spots, and Rat-L-Traps is about all I ever use anymore.
I always keep a few Rat-L-Traps stocked in different colors, and always have one within arms reach.
I have some Red-eye shads that I like but I still find myself reaching for the "old Rattle Trap" the most--have caught a lot of bass on the rattle-traps over the years
What nobody uses the Spro Aruku Shad? I like the Spro Aruku Shad.
Has anyone tried the Bill Norman ScorpioN weedless model? Looks interesting... I picked up a couple to try next season.
Tight lines,
Bob
I Love Yo-Zuri , i've bought a few 6th Sense i've not used them much but they really look good,i love their colors.

No but I am going to now. That should be a killer on the brush piles and downed trees .
I really like the RES. I usually change the hooks though. I also like the oval split ring.
Xcaliburs are great too. After a hour of smashing white bass it seems like the paint holds up well compared to the RES.
red eye shad
Kinda like you, I fished a certain lipless bait for a while and then switched brands...and switched brands...and switched brands...until I got my confidence bait. The confidence bait got fished a lot and then I was paying attention to HOW I CAUGHT THE FISH. I started taking notice how I was fishing it and then my confidence bait was spreading to different brands and they became my confidence baits.
Here's the panic box lipless crank:
A Janns Netcraft, build your own lipless crank with death trap hooks acquired and assembled in 2012.
I am one of those that fishes lipless baits quite a bit under certain circumstances and like many on here already I too fish the Bill Lewis baits but mostly the 3/4 and 1 ounce sizes. A couple others lipless ones that I don't think have been mentioned but that do catch fish would be the Bomber in I think 5/8 ounce. An inexpensive bait with a good sound to it and not so painful if you are feeding a lot of them to toothy critters. The other is the GAGs bait Bunker. This is a larger and heavier bait but very productive, at 1.25 ounce it will throw a mile and is some ole tough but it is more money at about 9 bucks a pop but I keep 5 or 6 on hand at all times.
I threw the Spro Aruku Shad Jr today and I really like it. I can fish it like a blade bait and it doesn't get tangled like a red eye shad does.
Spro Aruku Shad
Strike King RES
Bill Lewis Trap
Xcalibur Xrk50
Lucky Craft LV500
That is what I carry. Not in any particular order I use them all equally with probably equal success.
Favorite lipless cranks for me would be the Rattlin' Rap, and the Rat L Trap. Color wise, its hard to beat the chrome/blue. I haven't had any durability issues with either lure, which is great considering they're both only around $4-5 and they catch fish. I've had good success on them so I don't see any reason to switch to brands that cost over twice as much.
Red eye shads and xr50s and xrk50s ... Seems like since there are less xr50s being thrown that they're actually getting bit better . I want to try the 6th sense baits as well however.
6th Sense. I use the heavy rattle when it's warm and light rattle when it gets colder.
