As the title suggests - what are your favorite current lipless crank baits as well as top colors ? ... I'm planning a trip to Central Florida in the near future and have little experience with this techniques as the lakes I fish are highland reservoirs with little grass ... Thanks in advance !
I know everyone is tired of seeing it, but my gently used tungsten 2 tap is currently my favorite.
I'm also a big fan of the Xcaliber (now Booyah), lipless baits.
I'd probably be looking for some gold ones if I was headed to Florida.
Call me stubborn but I don't need new lipless cranks, still doing fine with the old tried and true Rat L-Trap, throw in the ocassional Bayou Boogie and every now and then a plain Rattlin Rap.
Strike King RES, 1/2 ounce, Sexy Shad or one of the chrome variants. Both the 2-taps & regulars are great fish catching lures.
I'm a fan of all different kinds for different reasons but if I had to choose it would be the Xcalibur one knockers which is now Booyah and I have used them since they changed brands so I don't know if they are the same.
Lucky craft lvrto or just a strike king red eye. Most of the time I'm throwing blue and chrome.
Spro aruko shads
red eye shads
the super spot
Quite a few to look into - the Live Target Vibration Trap in Gold Shiner will be on my short list to investigate as well (nice detail) .
The Bill Lewis Rat - L Trap , Booyah One Knocker and the Strike King RES have a ton of fans ... Probably no reason to spend $$ on a lipless trap bait with this much love !
Red Eye Shad, I like Chili craw in early spring, then as the water clears, I switch to Japanese shad on sunny days or albino craw on cloudy days.
The Booyah (old excaliber) baits are a distant second....I fish them about 10% of the time when I am throwing a lipless bait.
I have a few others like the Berkley warpig that's seen some use, and I have some of the new Storm Arashi lipless baits to fart around with next year.
I throw a few red versions of the RES but for the most part I'm a Rat-L-Trap guy.
Lunkerhunt in blue/silver. On a sunny day in clear water the bass love grabbing ahold of it!
When I lived in Florida, I was piled with requests for the SPRO Aruku Shad (all sizes) in the color Old Glory. I knew tournament guys that didn't buy any other color or maker. The Aruku Shad stands on it's nose when at rest and doesn't hang up as much. My personal favorite on smallmouth in Lake St Clair in the spring is the Cell Mate color.
I really love the Yo-Zuri line of lipless crankbaits! I caught a lot of nice ones on them last year, especially during the pre-spawn. Anything in Red, or silver with some blue!
The Red Eye Shad fits my style of fishing the best. If there are other lipless baits that shimmy on the fall , someone let me know .

That seriously makes me drool... Simple. Beautiful.
I just bought two black back chrome RES's and two Banshee's in the simple shad color. Cannot for the life of me tell the difference.
Rapala Rattlin' Rap.
I like the Xcaliburs and still have a bunch. but I also have a ton of Rat-L-Traps and Cordell. Right now, my favorite is this......Cotton Cordell Super Spot in Royal Shad.
Find the brand/color that gives you the most confidence and that'll be the best one for you! If 20 people respond to this thread you'll probably get 20 different answers whether it's brand or color. I personally have more confidence with the tighter water Rat-L-Trap in colder water, and the LuckyCraft LV series in warmer, though I did grab a few Red Eye Shad's on sale that I'll try because it's a less painful hit on the wallet if I get hung up.
Redeye. Got others, but use Redeye more than 90% of time.
Kinda like red

This one is part of the set of 9 boxes that came with the Lund Pro-V bass's Pop-Up Tackle System -
Kind of generic - Mid-range quality but gets the job done.
They are 3700 size.
btw - I didn't throw up a pic but there's another one of these sporting a load of 3/4 RES waiting for ice out.

My personal best came off a tree stump on the middle Trap!

Nice "starter" kit.
The original yozuri rattling vibe is king for me casting/covering water. R.E.S. for jigging/yo yo retrieves.
Classic Bill Lewis trap does it all quite well. One trick I use If theres alot of grass is cut the middle treble, (the one which would point forward if you're retreiving). You don't foul up as bad and can bang the bait into things a bit more.
I've been throwing Rat l Traps for years. I'm really high on the Super Nova series. I like 5/8oz best. Colors are great. Pick your poison.

and when I ain't throwing the Royal Shad CC, I throw that Red Chrome Trap or a Bone Trap.
> Spro Aruku Shad (stays upright when nose-walked along bottom)
> Strike King Red-Eye Shad
> Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap (best bang for the buck)

Has anyone fished the Academy H2O lipless cranks? If so how do you like them?
Like many others the 1/2 ounce RES and one not mentioned yet the 1/2 ounce rippin rap. The rippin rap was decent, but seemed to trigger less strikes on a day when pike and musky were jumping out of the water to grab the RES. There is a place for both, just need to figure out which is better when.
Azuma Shaker Z in Aztec or the RES in Chartreuse Craw.

I have a few of the 5/8 RT by H20. I just bought them recently, so I haven't fished them a whole lot. I think I've only caught one fish with them and it was on the ghost shad color. They cast well and have good vibration.

I might give them a try in either the 3/8oz or the 5/8. I have been really happy with other H2O baits.

They are good baits, just haven't fished them enough. I love their CRS. Awesome colors and action for only $3.99. Their small profile CRM is also sweet (Medium diving squarebill also for only $3.99). Sometimes you can catch certain colors on sale for .98 cents or $1.98, which is a crazy value. I'd like to know the manufacturer that produces them and see what other brands are built in the same factory.
Not meaning to hijack the thread... sorry.
i use and like
lucky craft lv 500
spro aruku shad
jackall tn
rat l trap
sk red eye shad
I didn't think think was worth starting a new thread over so I am posting here.
Anyone remember what the name of this color was? I am thinking sunset or sunrise something.....

Nice
Rat L Trap in gold/black. I bought an Academy H2O Xpress Rattlin' T. It worked well at my buddy's pond. But the next time out with a different fellow, he flat smoked me with a CC Super Spot in gold. I caught two dinks and he caught 6, two over 3 lbs and lost the best one of the day at the boat.
Bill Lewis Rat - L Trap

I bought that exact pack and still have the small one . That's a good bait . I can remember one spring pitching it into brush piles and catching keeper bass .
Most of the time I am fishing with Rat-l-traps or Cordell Super Spots. Chrome/blue back, Smokey Joe, and Natural Craw are the three colors I start out with.
I've usd a bunch of different brands and still go back to the good `ol original Bill Lewis trap. In fact, just this last fall I was out and putting a good hurtin on em with a red craw trap (imagine that...) till I broke it off. After all the tears and screaming, I composed myself, and tied on the only other red trap I had which was a RES. The bite almost shut off for me with that bait. My buddy even said he could hear a difference in sound when I would rip the RES in comparison to the Bill Lewis trap. Needless to say I ordered 6 more that night.
I've always stuck with Rapala Rattlin' Raps and Lewis Rat L Traps the most. I've got some one knocker Rapala Clackin' Raps I haven't tried yet but I figure I'll like them too.

I found 2 packs of that color and 1 pack of rayburn red in an old box of lures I had stashed away. I opened a pack of the sunset (still unsure on color name) and the rayburn and tossed them in my lipless box. I also found an old Cordell Rattle Spot Minnow in smokey joe....I will try that this spring if we ever thaw out.
Lucky Craft LV500
Strike King Red Eye Shad
I'm old school. Rattle Traps.
LV 500 by far...
Strike King Red Eye Shad in Orange Craw
My personal best smallie came on a gold XCalibur. Otherwise, usually a RES guy.
Do Cotton Cordell Super Spots have a similar shimmy and stay upright on the fall as do the Strike King Red Eye Shad ? *Additionally any other lipless cranks mentioned previously with a good shimmy on the fall ?
Spro Aruka shad. All day
I have some red eye shads...xcaliburs...and rapala Rippin Raps...but nothing beats the old school ratltrap!!!

Do you know if the Spro Aruka Shad has a shimmy on the fall (like a RES) or does it pretty much drop like a rock ?

The 6th sense 70 shimmies on the fall. I've never used a RES but I'm just following orders as per your instructions.
Cordell Super Spot just became my favorite this past weekend when Bass Pro put them on sale 5 for $10. I picked up $20 worth. Before that ... I like anything Rapala and of the course the original Rat-l-trap.
To clarify - many lipless crank baits fish similar when reeled straight in but for the "lift and drop" tactic the RES may own that category application ... The 6th Sense may have it as well and possibly the new Storm lipless crank baits (TBD) . To me - that ability to shimmy on the fall makes for more versatile lipless crank bait versus the vast majority which just flop over and fall straight down to the bottom ... What says you ?
I do a lot of fishing from a flat bottom aluminum boat . When the Red Eye Shad is falling I can hear it going tic, tic tic...
Spro aruko shad gets another vote here!
Rat-L-Trap and Super Spot for me, but all I do is a simple cast and retrieve with those baits.
I used to have a favorite...but now you guys got me thinking.
That fave was was an old Bill Lewis Sparkle Trap pearl with a greenish back. Haven't fished Traps much since I lost my last one.
