X2

I have never fished a Loomis spinning rod, but if they are even half as good as the IMX baitcaster, you can't go wrong.

I think with your baits listed you would be better served to go for a MH instead of M.  I have some M St. Croix and Gloomis IMX spinning rods and I wouldn't use any of them with a spinnerbait.  I only use plastics and jigs up to 1/4 oz on those rods anything else seems too heavy.

The rod RW recommended is a MH and will do most of what you want.  I had one and it was a bit too heavy for my purposes so I traded it off.

For those techniques you would be better served with baitcasting gear. Personally, I limit my spinning to light lines and finesse techiques. But, if you want to use heavier spinning gear, It would be hard to argue with the SJ843 that Roadwarrior suggested.

fishing user avatarbronzeback01 reply :

yeah i already have an sjr 843 but i'm not crazy about the handle , i like the bronzback handle or some kind of split grip handle.

fishing user avatarRiskKid. reply :

Consider the new Shimano Cumara at $220. I just got a deal on a MH 7'2". It is a very sweet rod. The Med is rather light so I opted for the MH which I feel would serve your purposes well.

To all doubters of the American Rodsmiths H3 Titanium Ultra...

I have talked to several guides (all not endorsed, sponsored, or in any way affiliated with American Rodsmiths.) Most have said they SWEAR by it. Two of them used to be die-hard G-Loomis men and a third was exclusivly St. Croix.

Most of them said the American Rodsmiths H3 Titanium Ultra was the best rod they've ever seen. I've fished a baitcasting model, and it's a DREAM!! I own one of the H3 Titaniums, and it's the best I've ever handled. ( I've fished with everything form G-Loomis, St. Croix, Custom, Shimano, you name it!)

Actually In that PM I said I was getting a new Curado, and I'd need a NEW rod for it. I've been using American Rodsmiths for the past decade! The H3 that I own now I've had for 6 months.

Out of all the rods I've owned or fished with (like I said before I've fished with most brands, granted I haven't held a $500 Loomis but..........) The H3 Titanium Ultra is my favorite! The H3 Titanium I have right now, is my favorite out of ALL the rods I've ever owned.

Like I said It's just my opinion. I'm not saying my opinion is "Gospel Truth"

Ya'll are knocking me for reccomending my favorite rod, like it's the best, which I think it's the best! If you like a rod are you going to say......."Ya, it's an ok rod, you'll like it."      Or are you gonna say............"It's the best rod I've used, I'd highly reccomed it!"

If ya like something a LOT you're gonna say so!

If soemone asks you..............."do you like to fish?" What are you gonna say? You ain't gonna say..................."ya I fish every now and then."       I think you'd say....."fishing is my passion!" or something like that.       Ya see where I'm going.................????

I have a G.Loomis PR844S which might be my favorite piece of equipment, but it is not an all-around rod. The tip is too soft for many applications. For the most part, this is my smallmouth rod and used primarily for fishing live shiners on a split shot rig.

From the Loomis catalog: "Our popping rods were originally designed for casting live bait (mainly shrimp), under a popping cork ..., but freshwater anglers have found umpteen uses for them as well".

I have been thinking about getting a casting version of this rod for inshore trout and redfish.

You're right. My primary rig was a Rat L Trap with a Zebco 33. However, I always remember always hoping to use the "big rod" Which my dad would soemthimes let me use. When I was seven we found one for $25 at a garage sale. it was a 6'6' worm rod. That was my first "real" rod. I LOVED IT!!

Sorry, I lied I've only been using AR for the past 9 years and 7 mothns. not a full decade.

The rod can be used for any "moving" lure, fishing the GYCB Kreature

like a spinnerbait for example. The tip is too soft for typical soft plastic

and jig presentations. However, once the tip is loaded, this is a very

powerful rod! The smallmouth in my avatar were boated using the

PR844S.

Not to hi-jack the thread but back to the original post

I am certainly not an expert but you really are talking about different techniques. For a jig or worm rod most prefer a fast action ultra sensitive model i.e. IMX, GLX, Steez, and so forth, on the other hand for crankbaits I prefer a slower action with a softer tip.

$250 is a lot of money to spend on a rod that you might not be very happy with and, although it will buy you a quality rod, you might prefer to spend about half of that on a very good rod and save the rest for another outfit.

JMHO
