I'm interested in purchasing 3 full cork handled rods. These will be used with YoZuri Hybrid line. I am interested in 7' length, blank exposed reel seats, SENSITIVITY is a must. Medium to Medium Heavy fast action. Will be used for plastics, and jigs of all sorts and styles including but not exclusively, shaky heads, c-rigs, tex-rigs, swim jigs.
What brands/rods should I most consider?
Check out the St. Croix Premier rods, you can usually pick them up at Dicks on sale for $70 to $90, There are also the lower end Shimano rods.
x2 on the St.Croix Premier. Also SHIMANO Compre, Lamiglass Excel, Falcon Bucoo's are good, but their actions are not suited for any of the techniques you listed except for c-rigs IMO.
I would pick up a Premier though
Fenwick HMX.

QuoteFenwick HMX.
I've never been too interested in fenwick rods but I recently put hands on a few and they all feel of greater quality than price. Even the Eagle GT feels like a rod twice it's price.
Apparently some didn't read the post.
How would the Kistler Carbon Steel be for what I'm needing? Or the St. Croix Triumph....same blank as the Premiers? I've also been looking at the Team All Star and ASR rods.

The Triumphs have the same blank as the Premiers, but the components are not necessarily the same. For example iirc, the Triumph has generic hard Alum-oxide inserts with with black frames, while the Premier has Batson Forecast guids with double-plated black chrome frames.
Another good reason for the Premier is it has nearly 8 times more options to choose from, instead of the standards.
Also the Premier is made here at home in Park Falls Wisconsin. 8-)
I love my St. Croix Premier rods. Have two, plan on getting another. I think they are on sale at Gander Mnt. right now.
veritas hands down you cant find a rod with better features at that price point. titanium sic guides, nano tech, well balanced and exposed reel seat.

x2 The Triumph is ok, but they are made in Mexico and China, whereas the premier is made here in the US with a little better quality pieces.

Daiwa Fuego LH Retrieve. Fair Condition - has a few small dings in it from me using it for shore fishing and lugging it around brush and trees. Overall, it still looks good, but not great. Smooth, but not as smooth as my almost-new Fuegos. Spooled with 10# yozuri if I remember clearly. $100.
Daiwa Fuego LH Retrieve. Great Condition. No noticeable dents, dings or defects. Very smooth. Like new basically. Spooled with 10# yozuri. $110.
Take both Fuegos for 205.
Daiwa Zillion 6.3 Right Hand Retrieve. Good condition. One slight noticeable ding on the reel - might have a few more microscopic ones, but I'd have a hard time finding them all. Mechanically sound. Very smooth retrieve and cast. Spooled with 40# Sufix Braid. $170.
That Kistler is a good rod for the money, unless you just can't stand the split grip. It does help to reduce the weight and a lighter rod is a more sensitive one, which seems to be important to you.
You have limited yourself by leaning toward a full handled or full gripped rod. Manufactures are moving toward split grips. Get on Tackle Warehouse's site and look at everything with a full grip and try to narrow it down from there. The BEST values in your price range will most likely have a split grip. Good shopping.

i fished with one of those for a few hours last night. had a Daiwa Sol mounted on it running a 5/16 oz crank. the rod felt just like a Skeet Reese rod.

Not if its not balanced.
Even if it is not balanced. Adding weight to the tip is worse that adding weight to the butt, but in either circumstance the added weight detracts from sensitivity as added mass decreases the objects ability to transmit vibration.
I have a Team All Star BC rod that I use for pitchin and punchin in the heavy weeds, and I like it a lot. It's a powerhouse.
Some guys say that TAS rods are on the heavy side, but I think that's because they're way overbuilt. My rod is rated for 1 oz baits, but I think it could handle 1 1/2 - 2 oz , no problem.
If you need a rod for 3/4 oz baits, get a TAS in 1/2 to 5/8. I will be getting another, lighter one for worming for next spring.
I'm also planning to try their drop shot rod as well.
Thanks for the advice on the TAS rods. Food for thought.

most of the suggested rods are split grip and/or foam handled.
kistler rods cheaper Sheltons Clothing e-bay
they're a bit over 100 but the dobyns savvy series is worth a look. pay a bit more for a great warranty... crucials arent a bad choice either.
find either used and they'll likely be under 100
Cabelas XML when their on sale.
How about the new TFO Gary Loomis rods? they're a little heavy but ive heard really good things about them. And if G. Loomis puts his name on it you know it cant be a piece of junk

X2 It's not a full-cork but a split-grip eva. I bought one for my brother, it was the most sensitive rod I could find(@ Woods n Waters and BPS) for less than $100.
I agree about getting a MUCH better rod if you dish out $40-50 more and get a Shimano Crucial or Dobyns Savvy Series.
My money would be on the Shimano Compre. In the 7' length they are a little over the price range at $110 instead of $100 but that's about as good as it would get for me in that price range. It's got a full cork handle, Fuji hardloy guides, Fuji reel seat, lifetime warranty, and even though I don't have a lot of experience with super sensitive rods to compare this to, I still find it to be very sensitive for bottom bouncing baits.
IMO, the Abu Veritas is the best rod available under $100. But, as has been mentioned, it is not full grip. I also prefer full cork grips and I'm not wild about the pearl white color, but I've become a real fan of this rod. Very light, strong and sensitive.
QuoteFenwick HMX.
Blow away Compre and Premier sensitivity wise, in my opinion.

Just received my new Veritas rods today. I gotta say they are amazing. Yes I am sponsored by Pure Fishing and Abu Garcia. However I am not obligated to fish their rods. It was a choice I made because they are great rods. I am a big fan of affordable quality rods, the Veritas is every bit of that and more. Pure Fishing also owns Fenwick and I love them, but this is a better rod in every way.

I looked at one of the Veritas rods. Not impressed. Very flimsy guides, and they did not seem sensitive at all. But they were light. Probably just from the lack of handle material, though.

Im impressed that you can tell all that info just by looking at a rod. They are not flimsy at all, and they are very sensitive. Im sponsored by another rod company and have fished alot of those available, the Veritas is for real. Is it equal to a $250 Dobyns rod? No. Does it shine above and beyond the $129 rod market? Absolutely. Does it cost $129? Nope. This thread was asking about rods under $100. Did you have a suggestion? Also, the handle material is the same as alot of rods, Wright & McGill wring a bell?
Not directed at you, bu there is so much uneducated opinions here. How bout fishing someting before you post about it.

OK, misunderstaning. I significantly handled a Veritas. And yes, the guide feet (at least on the spinning rods) are very flimsy. And you can test for sensitivity. I think people are impressed alot at the Veritas cause it is visually appealing and its the latest and greatest.
I have an arsenal of rods below $100 and probably the best i have is the vendetta. I have not been able to try the veritas yet so no opinion on that, but Abu makes some good stuff at affordable prices.

This is definately not the case with me...personally, I don't like the white finish nor the split evo grips.
Regarding the sensitivity issue, I would love to hear which $100 rod people think is more sensitive than this one...I own about 20 rods in/around the $100 price range (St Croix premier, Fenwick HMX, BPS extreme, All Star, etc...) and the veritas is the most sensitive of the bunch. The All Star IM10 is probably the next most sensitive of the rods I own in that tier...

Fair enough. I agree the look flimsy, but I grabbed and wiggle them and they are fine. If ya step on em IM sure they will bend, but others do as well. The casting rods are of course much shorter and closer to the rod. It is an appealing rod, but it is also a nice rod. Those wanting something a bit nicer and lighter can take a look at the Verdict which is claimed to be lighter and more sensitive. I can attest to it being lighter as I played with it at the show.
I dont worry much about the rod durability. Consider the fact that Iaconelli fished them all year. He was also involved in design so Im sure there is a reason for the tall first guide on the spinning model.
I'd say the veritas are a top pick, also as mentioned before I think the new gary loomis rod by TFO may be worth looking at.
But I am surprised no one has mentioned Lamiglass EXcel series. Very light, very sensitive, and nice looking. Good warranty, and made in america. I have a couple and love them.
Also worth mentioning is the Falcon Buccoo's.

OK, so maybe sensitivity very individual (how you hold it, what kind of line, what weight reel, etc.)
I wish there was a way to scientifically test and rate rods' sensitivity. I guess you could just monitor vibrations or something? Tackle tour should do it, since they're into that kind of stuff. Then we could put an end to all disputes and find what rod really it the most sensitive.
Definitaly the Veritas.
I absolutly love mine!
Falcon's are so underestimated.
The original is great for under 100$.
The veritas is probably better, but you made a comment about full gripped only.

Travor, I've recently been researching equipment to setup this kind of test. Unfortunately, I would rather buy fishing equipment rather then testing equipment... but the day is coming.
Big fan of the Shimano Clarus rods.
St.Croix Premier
Falcon Bucoo
Lamiglass Excel
Shimano Compre
All of these rods are great for only 100 bones
Going the closeout route..., Fenwick Techna AV's and Cabela's XML & XMLTi's should be selling for $100 or less, if you can find them.
Although the XML's may no longer be available online, today my local Cabela's had a few XML's for $60 and XMLTi's for $90.
Leon
Cabelas Prodigy and Cabelas MagTouch are both pretty good with the Prodigy being on sale for $49 and the Mag Touch was on sale for $69 but I think they bumped the price back up. The XML is a very good rod and even better when they are on sale.
Falcon Original.
