Anyone have the Abu Garcia revo s? If so how do you like it? Thanks y'all!

I love mine. Smooth, light and looks great.
I'm going to one of these soon.
Thanks man
I love mine, smooth, light and well worth the money.
Goose 21. What's the biggest fish you've caught with it?
I use it to sling topwater baits, paired it with a veritas. Pb on it is 5lbs, handles just fine.
I've got a Revo S that's a few years old. Lots of miles, fish, and abuse on it. Had to replace the pawl bearing this winter and had it supertuned also, feels even better than new now.
If all people did was use the search feature and not "discuss" things on a "discussion forum" it'd be a boreing place! So welcome and ask anything! On 1/26/2013 at 9:34 AM, zwhiten12 said:Anyone have the Abu Garcia revo s? If so how do you like it? Thanks y'all!
To answer your question: Yes, I have two of the new ones. Not sure if your asking about the Gen 1 & 2 which are silver or the Gen 3 which is the new black and white one. I have the Gen 3's
It is by far one of my favorite reels I own. The breaking system is 2nd to none to learn how to start with a baitcaster. Easy to operate and smooth as all get out. The very 1st ones had some gear grinning issues but it was taken care of ASAP.
I am running one on a 7' M Micro Veritas and it will cast a small top water out past 40 yards if the conditions are good. For the price it's hard to beat too.
If you go to bass pros page, I have a full review with pictures on the new S. it's the featured review for it.
You cant go wrong. I love mine and provided it proves ts self down the road, will be in my arsenol for ever.
I have three that are 2, 4, and 6 years old. My favorite reel. Extremely smooth and easy to adjust. I'm sure the new model is of the same quality, or even better.
I have two Revo S reels and love them. One is the white finish. Got it paired up with a Veritas. Just ordered a Revo SX. Hope it's nice as well. They ought to paint a 3 on the side and rename it the Intimidator!
Got to try the new S in store Saturday, made my mind up, will be getting one for sure via the reel trade in program.
Which generation? There's 3 -
1 - had the six pin brakes
2 - had the 3 and 3 spring-loaded pin brakes
3 - the current black and white
1 and 2 were identical except for the modified braking. I have a bunch of those and it's a work-horse reel.
Im taking a cross country trip next week. I'll be stopping by a basspro or cabelas and picking one up along the way. Gonna put it on the veritas rod I just ordered.

Just remember BP has the online code VISIT20GC to enter. Any online purchase of 100 dollars or more gets a free 20 dollar gift card.
Is the sx worth te extra 30 bucks or just stick with the s?
SX is may only brakes. I would stick with the S.
I've owned four Gen 1's and one Revo Inshore - love them (still have 3 of them - 1 I lost overboard ). The new Gen 3's at $99 is a steal considering you can add a decent rod in the $75-100 range and have an awesome setup that will last you many years. I also have a couple Shimanos that are every bit as good as well, The key is finding a reel that not only feels good on its own, but pairs up well and balances well with the rod you plan on using.

How much experience with a bait caster do you have?
The SX has mag breaks only. They are great for pitching and flipping, but an over all casting reel or work horse reel, I don't like them. They are also more difficult to use for a beginner.
The S has a sweet breaking system. You can fine tune it for any condition or application.
Great reel for the money. I have 2 of them that are Gen1 models and they are on their 7th year of abuse and still work great. I recently picked up a Gen3 model and from the little i've used it I have been very satisfied with it.
I bought mine on sale back in '08. It is one of the smoothest reels I have ever used.
Would you guys say the third gen is the best model ?
They are a great reel, maybe the best in it's price range. They are smooith and dependable. I have caught several Hybrids over 10 pounds and Flathead Catfish up to 40 pounds on mine out of the Ohio River.

For look feel and extras yes they are better. As for it holding up to the abuse year to year, we won't be able to know for awhile. I bought mine the day the hit the market about 6-7 months ago. No issues with mine so far.

I've been using a baitcaster for a bout 2 years now. What kind of distance do you get when casting with the S?
Well today with some wind, using 3 brakes and a weightless caffeine 5" shad, I was getting 30-35 yards in an average cast.On 2/7/2013 at 8:25 AM, zwhiten12 said:I've been using a baitcaster for a bout 2 years now. What kind of distance do you get when casting with the S?
Alot of your distance is going to matter on what rod your using and the weight of the bait. I have a medium fast 7' micro guide rod on mine and it loads very well. If you used a heavy action rod less than 6 foot for example, your distance will be short.
But if I could answer your question easier, the distance is awesome. Better than my two Gen 2 STX's

That's awesome, well like many teenagers I have a limited supply of money and it takes a while to save up for a new set up. I am looking for a workhorse of a reel that will last me a long time. An since I can only afford one rod at a time I plan on using my new reel in saltwater for the one or two weeks out of the year that I'm at the beach. I take really good care of the reels that I have and when I have enough money I will invest in an actual saltwater reel.
But I'm torn between two reels, the 5500 c3 and revo s. I know there is a big difference between the both but I lean tissues the s but my buddy has a 5500 and it feels awesome and I know for a fact that it's a workhorse and can hold up in the salt. My only concern with the 5500 is how much more difficult it will be to flip and pitch and a concern with the revo s is that even after good cleaning, that over time the salt will screw up the reel. I'm really torn and could use some input.
The C3 has a proven track record no doubt. It's a tank that keeps going and going. I've never tried to pitch with a round reel. Sitting here thinking about it, it would be tuff with the small thumb bar.
The C3 is alot harder to adjust. You have to take it apart to adjust the breaks for wind, heavier or lighter baits etc. The Revo S is quick and easy. I have owned a C3. It was a great reel but didn't like the thumb bar and not being able to adjust the breaks.
Round reels don't fit me very well. I have small hands and the super low profile of the S fits me better.
The REVO S is the best $129 you could spend. I have both the gen 3 S and the STX, and both are amazing reels.

Which would you prefer?
The STX is more versatile with it's dual braking system so probably the stx just because you could flip and pitch with it easier. You can't go wrong either way though.

Agreed. For the 130 dollar mark, nothing compares

If I might jump in too, honestly I prefer the S. I don't use the mag breaks on my STX's at all. The S is super light too.

Yeah, it's a great deal, I think the s is what I'm going to go with. What would be a good rod to pair the S up with? Thanks!

Depends on a few things.
What type of fishing? What type of baits and how heavy.
What's your budget
VENDETTA! Great rods.

I fish mostly for bass, I use all different lures but mostly hard baits, my weights range anywhere from 1/4 up to over an ounce. I would like to keep the budget at 100 or less.

Sounds like a 6'6"-7' MH rod with a fast action would be the happy medium for you. Kind of a do all rod.
At the 100 dollar point, I like the Veritas micro myself.
Shimano makes the Sellus for 50-60 range. Berkley has the lighting shock for 40 ish. They are good rods and are sold at Walmart so you can test them out.
Veritas micros at walmart.com for $70 all day. Great paired up with the S.
Veritas or Vendetta!
Would the veritas or the vendetta be a better fit for the s?
Veritas is a better rod than the vendetta. Plus the veritas looks and feels great paired with the S. Great, great combo.

X2
I actually like the new Vendetta better than the Veritas. Feels better to me.
