I am looking at these two reels. Will be pairing it up with a dobyns 765 rod! Thanks for your input!
Lew's hands down.
Nice rod choice. Really flip a coin, both are sold reels.
Only you can make the decision, I'd choose lew's.
Not sure but I have both of these reels on the way and I can't wait to see how they perform.
ON PAPER, the Lews seems to be a better value based on what you're getting, however we'll see if that holds true out on the water.
Once I got a LTP I sold all of my curados and replaced them with TPs.
I do still have a 50E and a Core 50 for lighter baits.
Lews. But if you go chronarch you are still getting a beast.
I have been a shimano guy for a long time. The last years or so shimano has made choices that my land up hurting them in the long run. For that reason I am looking very seriously at Lew reels. I still know that shimano makes a fine product, but that's why we should all love the free enterprise system and the competition that is inherent there in. Many times,if you stumble there is someone waiting in the wings to kick your @ss at take your place.
Thanks for the responses! I am definetly leaning toward the lews!
The Lew'sTP is on a short list for me this Spring. It will definitely be on one of my rods.
Until you take both of the reels and put them on the rod, you're just hoping. They both are fine reels, but they have different profiles when mounted on a fishing rod. You need to go to a store that has both and take your rod with you. You might find that the Lews sits nicely on the rod but it is unbalanced for your tastes. Or you might find the Chronarch doesn't feel right when fully seated in your hand. While input of others is good it ultimately ends up being a popularity contest of those that choose to respond. If the majority of the individuals who respond say "Chronarch", does that mean you should exclude the Lews? Absolutely not. Only you can decide which reel feels the best for a given rod. Any other information you obtain from a forum is just personal preference.
For example, is there any reason you are excluding the Daiwa Lexa, Abu Garcia Revo S, SX, STX, Pflueger President, Okuma, etc.......see what I mean? I could easily argue that you should consider a Revo S or a Lexa.
Check Ebay, and don't be afraid to buy a used one. I got 3 "Refurbished" TPs for $310 off the Bay.On 2/25/2013 at 8:50 PM, Hoppysjignpig said:Thanks for the responses! I amdefinitelyy leaning toward theLew'ss!
I had a lews tp and now have a curado and chronarch 51. I like the lighter weight of the lews reel and the cf handle, i just think the shimanos feel more quality in my hand.
I like the lews reel alot though and you can get killer deals on ebay, i dont think you can go wrong with either one. Best thing to do is get both of them in your hands and see what feels better to you....
I have the Lews' and have the Cuarado, both perform well, but I do feel like the Lew's has a more cheap plastic feeling to it. Not saying it isn't durable, just something to consider. I could care less about bearing count and Multi-system-breaking, I put the Lews and a Curado on a NRX 893c side-by-side and the Curado casts smoother and is more consistent and easier to dial in IMHO.
Just my 2 cents.
Ill also add, i hate the knobs on the lews tp....

I love the lews Tps and most of lews reels.... but i agree! I hate those ugly flat paddles!! Its realy the only thing i dislike about about them!! Lews calls the knobs "classic" i call them ugly
I am going HawgHandle shortly!!

The paddle handles are what made me look.
I had an original BB1 with the paddle handles.
Liked em' then, like em' now.

Speaking of chronarch's, fedex just dropped this 51e off 30 minutes ago, this reel is sweet...
i really do prefer the lews reels, for me its because shimano changed their lineup alot and messed alot of people up, this years chronarch is the same reel as last years curado which is definitely good..i have smaller hands so the small profile of the lews is awesome. and if you look on ebay look for a guy called bubbysales, i buy all my lews reels from him, they are all brand new so you still get the warranty system and the free boat bag, i own 3 tps and 1 bb-1. and all of his tps are 159.99 which is a killer price and saved me 60 bucks. Mainly because when i find something i love i dont like to change. lews is definitely a good buy. Shimano is still a good company and makes some good stuff. so its all up to you. I'm just suggesting what i know has worked for me
It sounds like I can't go wrong with either one of them!

That just about sizes it up.

Another vote for Lew's. So smooth.
You really can't go wrong with either one.
But I would have to give the edge to Lews. Very smooth, great customer service, and a good drag.
I ordered the 200e5 yesterday @TW but they were out of stock but I still got the bassmaster classic deal just hope they get stock in soon, also went by BPS today and got me Duckett 6'9 cranking rod to go with it.. It's my new KVD squarebill set up..On 2/26/2013 at 2:00 AM, thehooligan said:Speaking of chronarch's, fedex just dropped this 51e off 30 minutes ago, this reel is sweet...

That's a fact, you will be happy with either one! I would choose the Lew's and for less than the the Chronarch you can buy the Tournament Pro, known as the TP. I love mine and think it is on par with the Shimano Core, kinda like a pour mans Core!!! I have heard from others who I would trust their word, (rw) who owns the core and tried the TP and stated that the TP did require more work to dial in??? I love mine,
Go put both on a rod and see which feels best to you, as I feel that is where the difference lies between the two! Any less expensive model from Shimano and I would definitely go with Lew's!

A BR member sent me his Lew's TP which I fished for several outings over a 3-4 week
period. The casting distance was outstanding and the reel was buttery smooth. My issue
is the same one I initially had with the Abu Garcia STX, dialing in both of these reels required
some effort. I have the STX in the groove and no doubt the TP can be "trained", perhaps
in short order.
By comparison, give me any Shimano, new or old, and I will have it set perfectly for the first
or second cast. Yes, it's really that easy!
On another post I stated that Lew's has really been the up and coming brand for the past couple
of years and has developed quite a following. Longevity is still up in the air, but if the reels stand
up to the test of time, you've got a winner!
This will be the 3rd year with my Lews Bait Casters and my Lews Spinning reel. I have not had any problems with any of the reels. I will agree with RW that the Lews can be a little finicky getting the brakes on the BC dialed in and I can definitely dial the brakes is on my Shimano a lot easier.
So we will see how they hold up for year number 3.
I have both and you can't go wrong either way. I would lean more towards the Lew's because it has magnetic and centrifical brakes but that's just personal preference.
Thanks for everyone's response! Still leaning toward the lews! It paired with a dobyns champion 765 flippin rod should be deadly?

You may need an alibi and a lawyer!

Now that's funny!
I have a Lews TP and love it. It's very impressive even when put next to reels that cost more money. It's super light and smooth. Definitely a winner. I also have a Dobyns Champion series...but the 763 and it's a great rod. I think you're on the right track 100% with this one.
On 2/25/2013 at 10:50 AM, DirtNasty said:Lew's hands down.
Ditto. I don't think you can beat the Lew's TP for the money. They are great reels.
Both are good reels with small difference here or there. If you are on the fence make a list of the features that are most important to you in a reel for the techniques you want to employ with this outfit. Look at each reel and compare what it offers to your criteria. The reel with the most pluses will be the better option on paper. Next step would be mount the reels on the intended rod. If this isn't possible maybe just a similar rod in your local tackle strore if that is an option. Check for the comfort factor here.
As others have noted dialing in breaks and casting distance is subjective. I own reels from both and cast my shiamno reels very far distances in their stock form with 1 centrifugal break applied. When supertuned it is scary far with 3/8 oz plus jigs.
Good luck with your decision as either way you will find both to be good buys.
Small side note: I have 5 dobyns rods with both brands of reels in question mounted on them. Although I don't own the 765 stick, I would ventures to guess the chronarch 200 e being slightly heavier by a bit over an ounce, it will likely balance out a rod of that length and power slightly better.
It seems to me the chronach is holding
It's value more than the lews! Atleast on eBay?

It's not holding it's value really....the Lews have always been cheaper from the get go. They MSRP at $199 but they have been on websites and on ebay for the $150ish range since they came out. It probably has to do with the distribution channels they go through. There are minimum advertised pricing arrangements, etc etc. So if they are both MSRP @ $199 but you can get a new Lews for $150 from 100 places online...the actual value of the Lews is lower but you paid less so it's a wash in the end....as long as you don't pay MSRP for it. I like both reels but if I would still choose the Lews even if they both were the same price.

Thanks! I have a 200 gift card at dicks sporting goods and just making sure
I am getting the best value!
I have only used 1 Lews reel. And while it was nice, I wasn't all giddy about it. I bought a Chronarch 200E7 these days off and fished it hard today. I have never in my life been as impressed with a piece of equipment as I am with it.
I was going to buy a Core or MGX this summer for finesse. I am 2nd guessing myself now and going to think about a Chronarch 50. I'm that impressed.
I have the Curado 51's (today's Chronarch 51) and liked them enough that I got rid of my Core 51. I have other reels I like as much, though, they are just different.
Buy one at a good price; don't like it you can sell it for close to what you paid. If you like it, keep it, then buy the other later at a good price and keep both or sell the 1 you didn't like as much for close to what you paid for it.
Do all the lews tp have a carbon handle and a click star drag system? I found one at dicks sporting goods and it didn't have it! The box said tournament pro though!

Sounds like somebody might have pulled a switch. The Tournment Pro has the carbon handle and clicking star drag. The Tournament and Tournament MG has the clicking star drag but not a carbon handle.
If the one you looked at didn't have a clicking star drag and no carbon handle it sounds like it could have been a regular Speed Spool somebody put in the expensive box to buy the Tournament Pro at the cheaper price.

Yep, and wont do no good to ask the clerk, as most don't have a clue what is supposed to be in the box, why I don't shop at DICK's,,,,,,!!
You are absolutely right! They don't know much
At Dicks sporting goods the only reason I'm shopping there is because I have a gift card!
Thanks everyone for their input! I have just
received my news lews tp baitcaster! I've paired it up with dobyns 765 flippin rod!
Nice! Congratulations, they are awesome reels and the customer service is excellent.. enjoy it
