I broke my crankin stick a couple of weeks ago. I picked up a MH Mojo Moderate action. Talk about a dead stick!!!! I can't feel a thing through the rod, no vibrations make it to the reel seat. Compared to my cheapo BPS Crankin stick, the Mojo down right sucks. I was fishing Rapala DT 20 and Bomber Fat Free shads in about 15 feet of water and I never felt the action of the bait or even when it hit bottom. You can't even feel a double colorado blade through this rod. I was/am amazed how crappy this rod is. I'm taking the rod back.
there are definetely better options out there. I own the 7 M fast and in addition to the tipheaviness and lack of sensitivity Ive had issues with guide inserts falling out twice.
I am blown away by the falcon bucoo, not sure off the top of my head if a crankin model is in that line up. The 7H and an E7 feel PERFECT together., and the sensitivity is far superior.

the 7'M is the crankin rod for the bucoo series, I belive it's a moderate action. I was never impressed by the mojos, I thought about getting one but never did, they just didn't feel right in store. There are plenty of other options though, personally I'd stick with the Crankin Sticks.
i got the 7ft plastics rod mf action ... defiantly better ones out their

X2 the 7'mh bucoo is great for cranks too...buy the bucoo
Wow, that's not good, but I didn't think too highly of them either and that's just too bad since they look kind of cool.
What line and #test were you using? I noticed that even with different mono and strengths of line, I noticed different feedback for the same rod and reel when cranking.
As a rule of thumb, the lighter # test (monos) I went, the more feedback I seemed to get from the wiggle of the crank or jerk bait. And this difference was very noticeable even between 8# (great at giving feedback) 10# (okay at giving feedback). Testing out 30# braid was sensitvity overload for my hands.
line was Yozuri Hybrid 10lb, reel Curado E5, I've used this combo line and reel before with great sensation, but I am very disappointed with the rod.
I think mojo's are real tip heavy, but maybe thats just me.
If you are throwing deep cranks exclusively, you may want to consider the Vendetta 7', medium/moderate. Same price range and a reasonable warranty.
Get a Kistler Carbon Steel 7' Med and never look back! I got a few over the winter. I took it out a few weeks back and could feel every vibration of a rattle trap in a 20mph wind with 30mph gusts. got 5 largies on a day when I probably shouldn't have even tried to fish in my 14' tin boat back in early April. I hooked one fish when I simply felt the vibration stop. Set the hook and there he was a little 11" buck bass. I could also feel every thump of the spinner bait on the MH as well. They get my vote for the price point any day of the week.
Given what you're using, dang! It's gotta to be the rod. I imagine that 10# hybrid would do well at providing feedback. I've only used 12# without issue with cranks.
I've had the guide inserts fall out also. I purchased the Mojo last summer and returned it after the tip had a piece off of it, which was probably due to shipping or w/e. I exchanged it for the same Mojo and within two times on the water, my guide insert fell out. I returned it and then exchanged it for a Shimano Compre which is about the same price. Shimano has a lifetime warranty. This was a great exchange because I haven't had a single problem with the Compre yet.
I was very disappointed with St. Croix. I have a 7 ft - Medium Crankbait Avid that I had before the Mojo and I love it. It's one of the best rod's I've used. I haven't ever had a problem with it. I guess the difference in craftsmanship of a $100 rod, and a $180
rod is huge. I haven't bought a St. Croix since the Mojo let me down. If I were to purchase another it'd be another avid or something that is on the higher end of their rods.
QuoteI think mojo's are real tip heavy, but maybe thats just me.
Nope, that's a common theme. Mojos are a real black eye on an otherwise great rod manufacturer.
I am glad I read this before I ordered one.
Well, even though I'm a HUGE fan, St. Croix's
low end has had other problems, too. The first
Triumphs were a joke. Some say they are fine
now given the pricing point, I don't really know.
At any rate, Avid and up are great rods. I consider
the Avid series a "Best Value". I also have two
Legend Elite, at least on par with Loomis IMX.
8-)
I have two mojos, that Ive used for about a year with absolutly no problems. In fact I like the rods alot, maby I just got lucky and got the only good ones in the batch.
I have a mojo for wormin, and I have had no problems, and like it quite a bit for the price range.

Nope, you didn't get lucky. I own several of them and I like them. The first one I bought was the jig/worm model and I liked it so much that I've bought several others since. I have no complaints with them and I love the split bottom grips.
I have the wormin n jiggin rod too and I haven't had any problems with it.
Page 2 for the win. I like mine.
Say it isn't so. I just bought the jig n worm, spinnerbait, crankbait and flipping rods paired with Revo STX's!
I have 4 of them and really like them alot I had a fifth the pitchin model I lost a insert out of the 1'st guide when I sent it back I upgraded to a legend tournament bass it is alot more sensitive than the mojo was but it was also $140 more
Mojos are not very sensitive at all........................
I took it to the local tackle shop, their suggestion was to send it back to St. Croix. He wanted me to do the vocal chord test, I started low and went higher, all he did was look at me in amazement, no vibration through the rod. I lost the darn reciept, so I may be stuck with it. I am guessing that I got a bad blank, it happens I guess. Hoping the replacement is better.

I had a similar experience with a 6'10" MH/XF Johnny Morris Signature Series casting rod. It was just a dead stick. No vibration at all. It was like fishing with heavy gloves or mittens. The 6'6" MH spinning rod in the same line was fantastic, though.
Wound up bringing it back to BPS and exchanging it towards and Avid.

Yeah, I definitely don't have that problem with my jig n worm rod. I've caught most of my fish on that rod since I started fishing again and I have no problem detecting bites.
you can use St Croix's trade up program. that's what i did with my Mojo. you get the value of the mojo applied to whatever rod you buy, and i could not be happier with my legend tournament rod. i didn't care for the Mojo rod. you have to spend additional money, but at least you get something for the Mojo.
Have contacted St. Croix, more than williing to fix or trade up with me. The rod was manufactured Nov 2009 so they know I"m not pulling a fast one. Due to lost reciept it has to go back to St. Croix, if I had kep the reciept I could just go back to the store. Will let you know how it all turns out.
I'll chime in and add that I too am satisfied with mine. I have the crankin' stick and the topwater/jerkbait rods. I use the topwater rod for small, shallow cranks and I don't have any trouble feeling the action of my lures with either rod. I have no doubt that they're no Avids, and the tip-heavy balance thing is another issue altogether and I suspect is mostly preference, but for the price point, I'm happy.
I wanted to add kudo's to Gander Mountain and St. Croix. Their customer service is top notch, long story short I'm getting a store exchange. I called St. Croix and they are willing to take the rod back, then I called Gander Mountain and they are going to look up the receipt for me and exchange the rod at the store. I bought the rod 2 weeks ago and still falls under store exchange. I'm disappointed with the rod but very satisfied with Gander and St. Croix's willingness to fix this. How many large corporate chains are willing to go back through their computer systems and pull a reciept?
The Gander near me won't do in store exchanges. In fact, when I was looking at some different St. Croix models, the manager yelled across the aisle, "You know you can't return them here if you buy it. I don't recommend them at all!" I laughed MAO at him, and said that's fine, their customer service was better than his.
I have never fished with a Loomis rod or top end St. Croix, or powell rods. I have two Mojo bass rods that I purchased from a member here for 120 total. I have caught 7 fish using the rods over the last 3 days and have had absolutely no problems feeling the bite on either rod. Like most other things, there certainly is lots of personal preference involved.
retiredbosn, I am glad that things are working out in your favor.

A couple years ago, i got my dad a triumph ultralite from the gander in Rochester. He decided he wanted a premier instead, So we took it back to exchange it. Right away they start giving us the "st croix warranty exchanges must be done through the manufacturer" line for a rod that was purchased 3 days before and still had all the tags on it. They finally let us do it when after about 15 minutes of going back and forth, they realized there was nothing wrong with the rod and the only reason we were taking it back was so we could spend more money there :
I have found that my mojo 7' m/h fast rod is sensitive (not as much as my cumara) but for a 100.00 I was quite satisfied. Maybe the bucoo is better, but I'd have no problem buying a mojo again. Right now, I'm using that mojo for pitchin and frogs. I have been using a tungsten weight but with mono and feel pretty well with it.
i have the 7ft mh spinnerbait rod that i use for pitching and like it alot not as nice as my powell i use for pitching to but it gets the job done
I have several Mojo's, and I have no complaints with any of them. I do have a couple of higher end Kistlers that I like better, but for a rod selection at that price point, I'm quite satisfied with the Mojos.
They're no Loomis, but they sure aren't a Cherrywood either. I think that's sort of the point, though-
I have the 7' MH spinner bait rod and it feels like I am trying to cast with a fence post.... It works great for pitching but it is just so tip heavy I feel like I'm gonna loose my grip when trying to cast...
It will be replaced soon with a Compre, Crucial or Avid in the very near future.
Ive had nothing but satisfaction from my Mojo's. That being said they are tip heavy, I think all St. Croix's are. My legend Tournaments included. Just like all St. Croixs seem to be heavier/stiffer in action from rods from other manufacturers. Ive found my mojo's to be better made than my crucials that cost much more.
Anyone that doesn't want their Mojos, I will happily take them if you want to send them to me 8-)

..you have any rods you want to trade? i have a few Mojos that are corner rods. maybe we can work something out.

Not really. I just started fishing seriously again last year and just about all the rods I own are ones I actively use.

Make a WTB thread in the flea market. You'll find some.

I've really enjoyed my Mojos... to each their own I suppose.
I own several Mojo's and Avid's. I do feel the Mojos are a bit tip-heavy. I AM very satisfied with them. I do not expect the same level of quality from both these rods, however. I own MBC70MHM (the crankin' rod in question) I love it for shallow cranks with an aggressive wobble. I do NOT love it for deep crankin'. I also own the Jig-N-Worm rod, I love it for finesse jigging with braid. It's very sensitive, but still not on par with my Avid of the same size and action. Want a rod that acts like an Avid? Buy an Avid!

Well I just got laid off from work on Friday so I'm not going to be buying any new rods for a bit but I will keep that in mind for when I find a new job.
