fishing user avatarScorcher214 reply :

6'6MH Veritas, with a TD Advantage spinning reel - 8lb test, most all soft plastics

7'MH Veritas, with a TD Advantage(6.4:1) BC - 12lb test, spinnerbaits, jigs, lipless, heavier weighted plastics, some cranks

7'M Okuma Citrix rod, with an Okuma Citrix(7.1:1) reel - Any lighter stuff or things I want to burn.

I shore fish about 85% of the time so it would be hard carrying around a combo for every technique. These 3 setups do very well just beating the banks.

fishing user avatarROCbass reply :

Casting:

Abu Garcia 4600 C4/Acadia F Series 7'MH/15lb mono- spinnerbaits, traps, small to med. soft swimbaits

Shimano Curado E5/Fenwick Goldenwing 6'6"M/12lb mono- cranks, jerkbaits, topwater

Ardent C400/ St Croix Mojo Bass 7'MHF/50lb braid-jigs, plastics, frogs

BPS Carbonlite/ St. Croix Avid 6'6" MHF/ 30lb braid- jigs, plastics

Daiwa Advantage 150H/ Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6'M/12lb mono-general purpose leave in the car rod

Spinning:

Pflueger Trion 4730/ Acadia F Series 6'6" M/20lb braid-tubes,dropshot,weightless plastics

Gander Mountain metal series reel/Shakespeare ugly stik lite pro 7'M/ 8lb mono- treble hook lures too light for casting gear i.e. original rapalas, #5 shad raps, etc.

This covers everything I throw just fine, but I'd like to add a cranking specific casting setup and 1 more general purpose plastics spinning setup, so I can have a tube and a dropshot tied on at the same time.

I fish from the shore.

1) Quantum Code Rod 6'6" MH Fast, Quantum Code BC Reel 6.3:1, 20# green Sufix Braid

2) Shimano Compre Rod 6'6" MH Extra-Fast, Shimano Citica E BC Reel 6.3:1, 20# green Sufix Braid

That's it really; I mainly throw Plastic worms Texas rigged and frogs/topwater buzzers.

Oh and the bass in my picture came a few months ago on this crappie setup of mine:

3) Shimano Voltaeus 5'6" UL Medium-Fast, Quantum Kinetic 10PTiB Spinning Reel 5.3:1, 4# clear SufixSiege Mono

JM Siganture Series II 6'8" MH/XF. /// BPS Prolite 6.3:1 (Awesome reel btw) - Spinnerbaits, t-rigs, swim jigs, and Cranking. (I only crank less than 8' really so I dont need a moderate rod.)

Gander Mountain GSX Titanium 7'2" H/F /// BPS Carbonlite 6.4:1 - Flipping and pitching, frogs, buzzbaits, c-rigs(But hardly throw em!) Big plastics, and all around jigs.

Both reels are spooled up with 40# Sufix 832 with a rods length leader of 10# P-line CXX Crystal clear. A great combination for sensitivity and alot of power and strength.

How you like the Titanium?? I've been thinking about one myself. Whatever happen to your Shimano rod(Crucial right)? I didn't see you listed it was just wondering.

It's definitely a great rod in my opinion. It's very comfortable to fish with although it's a touch tip-heavy. That's probably because im using a sub 7 ounce reel and its a 7'2" Heavy rod. It's a great all purpose rod for bigger baits, but I think it excels at bigger flukes in grass. The sensitivity is great on it also. It's no Loomis NRX for sure, but it was better than my Crucial. Also it says it has titanium strips to reinforce the rods. Supposedly it makes them stronger. But man, do these rods have some backbone I think its because the titanium strips go from the reel seat to the first guide. Dont quote me though im not sure.

And I sold my Crucial on Ebay. Really just wasn't happy with it.

Let me re-phrase it.

I wasn't happy with the 7' M/XF. Fished like a ML.

I love the Crucials, but when I went to BPS they really didn't have much in stock so I went with a different companies rod.

Bassclary-JM Siganture Series II How you like that rod and compare to titanium? The series II is the newest rod right with same grips of a carbonlite?

From the looks of the new rods (Signature Series II and Carbon Black), they're using the same blank as last year's Elite and Signature Series which I feel is an excellent blank, especially at their current prices. I had a couple of the older Signature Series and definitely preferred them over the Crucial.

I'd consider the sensitivity equal to each other.

I think the BPS rods will be a little lighter. Idk though, i dont have both in identical powers/actions/lengths.

The BPS comes with fuji K-Guides also. A nice upgrade over standard frames. Both have alconite inserts however.

The BPS has a 2 piece reel seat with a lot of exposed blank. Its nice and easy to pick up on lite bites, but I still can feel any difference sensitivity wise between those and standard fuji ECS seats that come on the Titanium.

The cork on the Titanium is also VERY nice. Its extremely comfortable to hold all day and my hands dont slip. The BPS grip is nice also, im just not a big foam guy no matter what rod its on.

Both rods have a lot of quality and nice touches to them.

I'll take some side-by side pics of the stuff if you want.

Basically it'll all be a preference thing.

Dude you haven't felt a Champion Extreme, or even a Champion. The cork on Dobyns rods will blow the Gander rod out of the water.

Seriously, treat yourself.

I would say a 7' MH Crucial casting rod with a Curado would be a nice addition!

Edit - that is ir you like the Crucial rods. I am not a fan. If not I would try a Dobyns Savvy.

fishing user avatarsonga reply :

i dont have expereince with the dobyns but i do like the crucial that i have now. i chose it over a st croix avid...i have used the triumph and premier in the past and was impressed so was expecting big things from the avid, but got a great deal on the crucial and actually liked how it felt in my hand better. so i went with that.

thanks for the suggestion on the new setup, can you explain your reasoning behind it?

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

Fat G, If I could get a store near me that carried Dobyns, id be all over it, providing I had the funds.
