anybody ever heard of em' guy was just telling me that this was what all the "pros" were moving to. just kinda shrugged it off and said cool. I googled them and their website was rather lackluster.
It is a new rod made by a custom-rod builder. $150 or so a pop. I remeber hearing about one of the bigger name FLW guys and Clay Dyer talking about them.
Which pros are moving to them ?
Citrus sticks? Not a good choice for a name. When I hear citrus, among other things, lemon comes to mind.
I'm coming out with a new line of rods. They will be infused with actuall bass flesh nanofiber technology. I'm calling them "Fish Sticks"

You could also add shreds of wood to the blank from recycled violins and have "fiddle stix".

You read my mind. ;D
They haven't been out very long, and the owner kind of pumped some no name pro staffers into the company..... From what I have heard so far they are pretty good rods, I haven't seen one so I am waiting for some more reviews before I buy.

Who did you hear it from ?

Ott Defoe is using their rods.
Goodness gracious !!! Annother "BLING, BLING GIMME YOUR MONEY !!!"
I'll just stick with the "tried and true".... St Croix, Fenwick, Shimano,Daiwa, Abu, Dobins, Powel etc, etc, etc. All have great rods in that price range. ( maybe a couple bux more, but worth it)

Only one pro ?
Even if they are the best rods ever built could they ever be perceived as anything other than a gimmicky Carrot Stix knock off?

No way! Well, it had better be a collaboration at this point because my "Fish Sticks" were almost done! Are yours a Chartreuse and White candy cane swirl pattern too? ;D
There was a ton of "chatter" about these on another board over the past month or two. It was quite comical, but it certainly helped spread their name there and inevitably sold them some rods!

Naw man, my gimmick is they smell like rotting fish. They will have a gaff hook on the butt end, no net needed for your trophies!
Actually, that "internet chatter" is the part that rankles me. Come out with a new line of rods, put a website up, and have ten of your buddies post up about it. I realize its the "new paradigm" in advertising, but its based on nothing but hype.
Just another ugly rod.
I'll stick with shimano...
Man, I thought the orange ones were bad.
Those Citrus-thingies are painfully ugly.

that's why i put pros in quotations. I was kind of like yeah right.

At least there's no way the rods could be worse than the slogan. ;D
QuoteDid you see the pics? Why would you try to sell your $155 rod and display it next to great grampa's tackle box and an old boat from the Red Lobster down the street? They look like glow-stick catfish poles!
Took the words right out of my mouth.

You would think they would at least take em and put them next to a blinged out ride or something.
QuoteQuoteOtt Defoe is using their rods.Only one pro ?
As far as I have heard that's the only big pro using them.
they probably painted a bunch of old carrot stix. I'm not buying the deal. It seems to me that if they were something so revolutionary, they'd put a more effort in to the presentation of the website. I personally don't see how anyone can compete with the falcon bucoo in medium priced rods except for the shimano compre.
What's funny is, you gave them over 250 impressions for free, just by starting this thread.
;D
As long as they put some useless bling on it to make it look like some JDM rod it will sell. Apparently some people are attracted to bright shiny things.... :-X
Below is a link to their videos. Clay Dyers is in one and is kind of amazing... Almost makes me want to buy one of these things. Almost.

I'm on the prostaff and your right the only big name pro on the staff right now is Ott Defoe.
The reason the site looks so lack luster is because Jeff Bunch is extremely busy doing shows, tournaments and building rods. He builds these himself in lebanon, Tn. So they are 100% handmade in the US. He is also trying to frantically get his college series rods ready for the classic as well as several new sizes and weights. The college series will feature college colors as well as school logos and the ones I have seen will be nice rods. He will also be coming out with a higher end rod that will feature micro guides and maybe even spiral guides.
They aren't really as bright as you might think. Here is a pic of them on the water.
I think if you all got to use them you would be pleasantly surprised with the weight, sensitivity and overall feel of this rod. There has been a ton of great reviews on other sites from people that have used them. If anyone is interested you can contact me here or at nathangravert@hotmail.com
I also forgot to mention the go green program. If you donate an old rod you will get a 10% discount on your new rod. Jeff will then refurbish your old rod, if it needs it, and donate it to a youth organization.
They look a lot like the carrot stix and are very light according to the site. For the money I'd have to stick with brands I know and like. Nathan - have you met Clay Dyer?

They are similar, but unlike carrot sticks Jeff doesn't take the cheap route, I.E. shipping overseas. They are much stronger and much better built IMO. I have not met Clay and he doesn't appear to be on the prostaff. There is a video of him on the site using them, but I'm not sure what that is all about. The only "pro" I know of is Ott. Who if you don't know is a young angler that just came into the ranks a few years ago, but is making a pretty big splash. He seems like a great guy and I think he will do well in his career.
What materials are used in the blanks?
QuoteWhat materials are used in the blanks?
the blanks are IM7. They use IM7 because it provides an excellent, affordable balance of strength and durability while also being highly sensitive and light weight.
4 oz. flipping rod sounds great!
I don't care about the color. I'm thinking of getting one of these.
Have the owner of the company contact Glenn about a BR sponsorship. That will certainly help get his name out.
If he is from Tennessee and he is a sponsor by May, he can bring his rods down to the Roadtrip for us to try out. Sounds good to me.

he sponsors one site already, but a few looks through some posts here and I doubt he will sponsor bass resource. Nothing against bassresource, but so far not to many members have nice things to say. lol, and thats common with something new and different. Citrus sticks will let the rod do the speaking for them and I'm sure it won't be long before everyone has heard about them. They already have almost 1000 views from this post alone. lol

THAT'S THE REASON HE SHOULD ALIGN HIMSELF WITH THIS SIGHT.
yesss. I started a red flag post. I feel like a real member now!!!
honestly I do feel bad. I made some negative posts about them and hell I've never even held one in my hand. I do apologize. they could be incredible. On a lighter note, I think the college logo and colors thing is a cool idea. Id buy a purple and gold rod!!! geaux tigers. I wish the guy and the rods success and I might even try one.

Whats the red flag??
Honestly, alot of people think they are really bright and ugly, but they really aren't as bright as they look, but that comes up alot and its understandable. I really think the college series is going to be what sets citrus stick apart. They are already light, sensitive and strong, once people start seeing colors they like and trying them out I think alot will change. They are at the classic right now, so if anyone is going there stop by and check them out.
Im going to pick up a rod in WVU colors when they are available.
People are suckers for anything that is new. That applies double for fishing equip.

I agree, but that is how advancements are made, too.
Don't forget that Loomis and Shimano were not created on the first day (just using those two as they seem to have the biggest following). At one point, they were "new" as well.

It just means a post with more than 25 responses.
Nothing towards the rod company, just a forum thing.

I'm a sucker for new do-dads too.

ok, I wasnt sure what it meant. I didn't think it had anything to do with citrus sticks. I thought it had something to do with marking topics that had potential to get out of line or something. lol, I don't really know. But always good to know.
here is an article from a custom rod builder that had seen some citrus sticks.

Digging up, I know... But Nathan- take a look at Pinnacle fishing reels. They became a sponsor of the forum recently, and I would bet my mortgage their sales have gone up since. I know some guys were skeptical of their product, but they have a guy on here that actively posts and answers questions from their company. If you were to get your boy to look at Glenn's numbers, I doubt he would think its a bad business decision. Hell, look at how many people you alone turned around from posting on here..
