Thought I might start a fun thread. So what do you like better EVA grips or Cork?
I'm going cork.
I'm an Eva fan.
I prefer cork but I'm ok with eva too. Good cork costs around $5 an inch, that's why eva and split grips are so popular now.
Cork on fly rods synthetic on conventional set ups.
I prefer cork.
Cork and neoprene
Cork for it's durability, feel, and the fact that it's just plain classier
Cork because I like the way it feels and looks!
Cork on all my rods currently. I think it's just an elegant look on a rod. Eva looks cheap but it wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I have both and have no real opinion either way. For me its about how the blank and line choice pair together for sensitivity when I fish.
On the rods I've built I use eucalyptus burl (wood) and it's by far my favorite other than that I like cork.
About the only rod I'll use with EVA is a Veritas

I also like the handles on the Rage and Extremes
Cork for any rod that I'm casting and retrieving with, offshore trolling and drift fishing it's EVA, hard to find a rod that isn't.
Cork by a WIDE margin. Feels lighter. Cooler in the summertime and the grip feels more secure.
Cork.
Cork,But I do use EVA on my broom handle.where it belongs.
Mostly cork; however I tend to put rod grips around them for them it gets really gold and the cork gets slick. Plus it keeps the cork all nice and clean underneath. The only rod I have that is EVA is my crucial crankbait rod and its actually very comfortable to fish with but gets a nasty smell after getting wet.
My favorite though? The handle on the new Legend Xtremes. Doesnt fall into either category, doesnt get hot nor cold and although not very soft at all its very very sensitive and a pleasure to fish with
I know i already posted but when i said synthetic i was referring to the neoprene handles on teh rage and extreme rods....i wasn't sold on it at first but after fishing my rage rods for about a year now, i really like them and wouldn't hesitate to get another.
Handle materials to me are low down on the scale. If they fit my hand well that is the key.
I like the neoprene on the St.Croix rage rods as well. Everything else is cork, mostly for appearance. I do a lot of palming and the cast only lasts a second.
Shape and design is more important to me than material. It has to be comfortable. I will say, I do not like "spongy" EVA.
I like both.
REALLY like EVA on my swimbait sticks, especially where I tuck it under my arm.
I also like the look of Burl. I've got a pitching stick with burl sections and it just looks better the more I use it. Looks "seasoned"
Nothing beats high end cork...it feels like silk
I prefer the look and feel of cork, but EVA isn't bad. The shape of the handle is much more important.
Tom
I have both and like both, I usually prefer Cork mainly for the natural look, but some reels look sick on a blacked out rod.
I didn't know they made rods with anything but CORK?????? Make mine a full cork handle, if it's not,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I have them fixed!!,,,,,,,,,,
Nice retrofits, Bob. I like a full rear grip for big baits, and cranking.
Cork
Full handle cork! I don't like split grips. I might be okay with a full handle EVA.
Cork
Split grip Eva all the way. I do have some cork but for some reason I just prefer Eva. However if there is a rod I like a different grip isn't going to deter me from buying it.

The rage and xtreme handle materials are totally different from eachother. Im not even sure what the xtremes are made of but its almost hard yet has a soft touch. Interesting yet I really have taken a liking to it
Really makes no difference to me. I do prefer split grips though. I have cork knobs on my Hawgtech handle and I hate them.

Thanks J, guess I'm old fashioned, when you work in this industry for so long you become acquainted with others with there own unique talents that make appreciate your preferences even more!! My rod builder also internally balanced them to perfection with the reels 6 to 7 oz., the 6'10 MXF has a slightly smaller taper from the seat to center and flairs back out at the but cap I prefer the smaller feel for finesse techniques, the 7'2"MHM has a little beefier feel and barely flares at the but cap and feels better to me for heavier rigging, Carolina rigs etc. and bigger cranks. I just let him work his talents, at $50.00 a rod for everything built up from 1/2 wide cork disk's he supplies, he works way to cheap,,,,,but I ain't tell'n him!!
I liked split EVA the first time I saw it but after a few trips I was over that and back to cork.
Cork freshwater .... Eva saltwater
Cork

I think Mike and Robert have a ton of Septon knobs available. You should PM them. I know those cork knobs would sell in a heartbeat on the Flea Market.
Split grip EVA. I seem to get better casting distance due to the torque created by having a split handle instead of a solid one where the weight is balanced. Cork also gets slick/slimy after a lot of use and I feel like its going to slip out of my hands.
Cork is just plain beautiful!!
Always a full cork guy until i bought two BPS Carbonlites last year, now i prefer those and split grips. On my fly rods cork only!!
I prefer cork too. I have a few EVA handles but the cork to me looks nicer and seems lighter.
cork... no question. love the feel and the look.
the only rod i own without cork it is my Veritas spinning rod...while i love the rod. i hate the grip. my index finger actaully goes numb after i use it a while. seems that finger is more on the metal part than the actual grip???
cork - the old classic
I like cork and burl cork, but really I don't notice, so long as the EVA is about the same hardness as old school cork. What I really dislike is EVA for the butt cap. It catches on my shirt too easily. Cork or plastic doesn't.

That's the key for me too. I like the looks of custom cork grips better but I'm cool with either for fishing, as long as the eva is hard.
Full cork only.
Cork; just feels better...
All my offshore rods, I think most are made this way, have eva grips and for fighting some of the offshore speices they are pretty comfortable. My freshwater and inshore rods are cork, but in cooler weather they get just a little slick but I still choose them. What is the biggest importance to me is a foregrip, I wil not buy a rod without one, no exception.
