Curado DC ETA support thread. 2024

fishing user avatarpuddlepuncher reply :

Until the last year I've generally stayed away from online ordering.  Call me old fashioned, or just plain old but I like to feel and hold something before I buy it.  All that went out the window with the first US market digital reel.  It's the first time I've ever pre ordered something without review or feedback but the bait monkey turned into full on King Kong.

My question is for those who've also pre ordered is: When do you expect to receive yours?  I ordered mine from American Legacy who I've purchased a few rods last year and know they are a respected retailer.  Their ETA is a broad 'August' description.  I've heard from other sources that they will ship out after Icast, which is technically now.  Have any of you that ordered from Tackle Warehouse or other dealers received any shipment notifications?

Now I understand the general consensus will be to email ALF and ask them, but I wanted feedback from others as well.  I don't understand as this is no where near the most expensive reel I own yet I'm literally losing sleep over it.

Thanks.

fishing user avatarBermise reply :

I was told late August for first preorders. Those release dates are usually later than what they tell potential buyers. I suspect mine will come around November if I had to guess.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Late fall but I’m thinking the wait can be till December?

  Extremely frustrating situation!!!!!

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

The August time frame is what was given to them by Shimano. It is subject to change, and probably will. Left hand reels are going to ship roughly a month after right hand. Last I heard it will be Oct/Nov for lefties.

fishing user avatarDens228 reply :

Living outside Chicago if I pre-ordered a reel and got it during the beginning of winter I would go insane!  LOL

Did you pull the trigger on one just wondering I presumed you were all diawa megabass reel guy for some reason.

fishing user avatarJ.Vincent reply :

Really depends on how well Shimano forecasted the demand.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

I don’t think they forecasted a demand like the k,  I thought the diawa 100 was gonna win icast to be completely honest and the results of icast make a huge difference in swaying buyers.

I actually did pre order one. I was too intrigued not to. I’ve tried Shimano in the past and they didn’t do it for me. I know I won’t get stuck with this reel if I decide I don’t like it. I do prefer Daiwa but hopefully this reel is the one to change my mind haha.

I know how you feel.  The bite in my area slows after Oct so I'm hoping they ship a bit sooner.  I go to FL for a bit in the winter so I'll just have to wait until then I guess.

I was once told years ago to not ask a question if you don't expect to like the answer and so far....

On the bright side the money is spent so it will be like finding cash you forgot about when they do arrive.

I wasn't impressed with the Antares DC after using it. Sold it. Lol

I have a friend who will buy it from me. I’m hoping I like it but I think I found my place with Daiwa. Even if it performs well, my mind will say “it’s not a Daiwa” Maybe I shouldn’t of bought that expride for it already lol.

Do you mind expanding a bit on that?  I'm kind of curious if you thought it wasn't worth the high price? or just the whole DC control?  I've been using bait casters for a while and don't backlash very often, plus I find the current braking systems on the Met and Chronarch MGL's are nearly the best I've ever used as far as ease of setup and performance.  On calm days using anything over 3/8 oz I don't thumb much anyway.  I just want that sound before my hearing goes completely.

I've messed around with a friend's old met DC and was indifferent other than the sound, the action otherwise was not on par with the newer versions.  What grabbed me about the Curado is I was already considering the K but figured for the extra few bucks might as well get the DC.

I hope you like it just to see how you trick that baby out.

fishing user avatarNathanDLTH reply :

The local store I work and shop at (very dangerous for an angler) has quoted September in terms of preorders. Wouldn’t be surprised if Shimano is running behind on production of the Curado DC either.

I'm not losing sleep over it but yeah, the wait for this one is tougher than usual. I've never tried a DC reel so the curiosity is really what has me excited.

Nothing really planned for it. I have an Avail 90mm handle on the way for it and I’m mounting it on a 7’2 mh Expride. Might swap out the drag star down the road but I plan on it being an all purpose bank beater combo. We shall see though once it arrives. It might be so great that it finds itself in my top 4 that I use most often.

I heard the same thing, righties first.  TW has all models listed as Aug 4 so I'm hoping the lefties are the same time.

Left handed reels are usually a month or so behind the RH reels unfortunately. But you never know.

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Last year I preordered a Curado K on the 4th of July sale and didn’t get it till mid November if I’m not mistaken ???? but the k was a little more affordable so I think maybe less ppl ordered ???? or I hope the demand might not be as high? ????

fishing user avatarttsang91 reply :

I emailed Shimano directly about this, roughly a week ago 7/18.

They told me "The DC’s are going to be trickling out to retailers over the next few weeks as they roll off the assembly line."

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

I might have to cancel my order, some things came up and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to appease the bait monkey this time around and I’m not sure if it’s the rite thing to do at this specific moment ???? see what happens? Dangit!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarpuddlepuncher reply :

TW just updated ETA to Oct 15.  I wonder if those who ordered already will still get it in Aug and this newer date is for newer orders.

@Burros Sorry to hear that.  I'm going to email ALF and if their ETA is truly Oct I may cancel as well and just pick it up for cheaper next spring.

fishing user avatarBermise reply :

The price will be the same in the Spring as it is now

Not on Ebay.  Every hot release in the last 2 years has been on Ebay a few months after hitting the shelves for a significant discount.  I snagged a Chronarch MGL last Spring a month and a half after release for $200, the Curado K was easily had for $140.  Same goes for Daiwa.  Combine the reduced prices with the 20% specials they run quite often it's a no brainer for me.

It’s true but the chronarc mgl holds its value pretty well still, lucky to get it under 250 new, the k didn’t hold its value like I thought it would and can be easily had for 140 I’m hoping that the resale value of the dc holds better than the k but only time will tell. Resale value is important to me because I buy resell or trade a lot of my gear eventually. The curado dc is a sweet reel and I’m still on the fence specially because I think that the fascination of DC will die down pretty quickly. If resale is 200$ in a year from now it would have been a good reel to put some money into it really depends on the quality and performance of the product. The older shimanos like the core 50s and even the chronarc and curado E series’s held their value significantly.

The k being a good reel however in such high demand they were pumping them out of the factory like hot cakes and I think a lot of qc was over looked not to mention they are coming from Malaysia not Japan a lot of factory defects came out of them although the problems were easily fixed not big problems the reviews for defects made for a quick dive in resale value in my opinion. I’m hoping this won’t be the case with the DC although I don’t plan on selling it if I do so decide to spend my denarius on it.

The price drop of the reels on EBay and Amazon has nothing to do with the quality of the reel.  Traditionally the reels price point was kept fixed by retailers and the manufactures often dictated to the retailers the price the reels should be sold for and discouraged selling of reels below their desired price point.  I heard that Shimano used to be big into doing this.

EBay and Amazon allow anyone and everyone to sell reels and this results in more competition to reduce the price to move the most volume of reels as a seller.  If a reel is in hot demand you can lower the price and make less profit per reel but the large volume of reels sold makes up for price decrease.  Reels that are sold for close to MSRP on EBay or Amazon tells me that the volume of sales for the reel must be low.  Go try to buy a Daiwa T3 Balistic.  It was a plastic pos everyone hated and there still some old stock out there for sale and they go for full retail when/if they sell.

If a reel is discounted like the Curado K or Tatula reels then you are seeing the real going rate of the reel as dictated be supply and demand.  The high demand is a good thing and means the reel is doing well.  Will the Curado K DC sell well and sell for below MSRP like the Curado K or will it sit on shelves and be sold for close to MSRP like the Casitas?  I don't know.  I doubt it will move units like a Curado K but it should sell well if it lives up to the hype.

I really do think this new DC Curado will live up to the hype.  Cal of Tackle Tour has reviewed most of the DC reels and he seems to really like the Curado K DC with the limited time he has spent with it on an icast preview.  If it is impressing a DC reel vet already then it must be good.

Great points.  I don't necessarily think a reel has to be in high demand for it to sell lower on Ebay.  First and foremost someone selling online has nowhere near the overhead a retailer has.  Someone with a mortar and pestle shop has to sell at MSRP to cover other expenses.

Other thing I've found about Ebay is don't be fooled by the higher priced listings.  It costs nearly nothing to list something at an obviously inflated value and hope at some point someone bites.  Look at Burros point about the vintage Shimano reels and the premium they now demand.  IMO the people listing that T3 are trying to cash in by deceiving those not familiar with reel by presenting a near vintage reel at vintage prices.  They are also hoping to catch those thinking they are getting the T3, the higher end offering from that year.  Yes both were Zaion bodies.

I'd agree the Curado is the most appealing DC reel that I've seen so far.  Shimano did well with the K and this was the perfect time for them to finally introduce a DC reel to the US market.  I've used an older Met as well as the Scorpion DC and although casting them was an experience, the action while reeling left me wanting.  The Antares is just too bulky.  The smaller profile as well as the smoother performance of the K has me more excited than I can remember.  I just with they made a DC reel with a CI4 frame....now I'm just kidding you.

I was going to cancel my order too.  For some reason I forgot I ordered mine through ALF I was checking my account on TW when I happened to click on Met MGL DC's first off and saw they had a few lefties in.  Sadly the monkey got me again, now I'm waiting on 2 reels in the mail and I never got around to canceling the original order on ALF.

Now to pick up a rod or two.

Ebay discounts and the like are simply vendors not honoring the MAP (Manufacturers Advertised Price) in order to compete with the big online retailers and brick and mortar stores, nothing more, nothing less. Has nothing to do with quality. Ive heard that 2 certain companies are going to enforce stricter MAP so these Ebay discounts may be going away soon.
