If You Were To Choose A Reel-$150 Price Range 2024

Alright so I'm looking at a few reels in this price range and I am wondering which one you would choose. I am aware that this is a very competitive price range, but I have a few reels in mind. They are:
- Abu Garcia Revo S or SX
- Daiwa Tatula (probably not too many have used...just came out)
- Lew's Tournament SS, BB-1, Tourny MG
- Quantum Energy, Catalyst
No Shimanos (: ......Also I know there are a lot in there, I'm just wondering what would you would choose and why. Also you can recommend some others that I don't have listed. I do have some in the 120ish range too in there.

I'd look long and hard at the Tatula... I've got experience with the Lexa, which I *really* like, and am very impressed by the Tat's specs.

Yeah I see tackletour already reviewed it, they gave it a pretty good rating. I'm not a big fan of Daiwa, but i bet i would be if i gave them a better try. I guess it as some air rotation system and feels like no gears while reeling, which seems very nice.

Indeed. That and the new T-wing system. Plus they make it in a sup'd up Type R model.
I never paid much attention to Daiwa until I saw the Lexa (spinning and casting). Become a real fan of both since then. Very good quality, easy on the wallet, Daiwa durability. Huge Shimano fan, as well. Have a Chronarch 50e, and two Stradic FI reels. Have 2 Quantum Accurists. Lexa utterly blows both out of the water.

Before buying my second baitcast reel I did a lot of research and reading. Was leaning towards shimano, daiwa was on the radar but my nephew told me about lew's.
I'd go with lew's. Either onee will do but I went with lews bb1 cause I can't be around magnets. I haven't experienced their customer service but have heard they have great service. I'm sure lew's isn't the only one with great service. Lew's offer a lot more for the money. Well at least to me.
I'm not a 1 brand guy. I own a few brands. Fenwick shimano st croix powell and lew's. Powell max rod and lew's bb1 is my new current and only baitcast setup at the moment. The rest are spinning set ups.

Lews tournament pro, bb1 or tournament speed spool. The mg is junk. You can get the tournament pro from eBay for what you want to spend. I don't know anything about the new diawa. I have a td-z and steez plus a lexa. The lexa is ok but not nearly as good as the Lews. I've owned all of them so it's first hand advice.

You should be able to find the tournament pro for around 150 if you shop around. That gets my vote. I do have a tss which I also like a lot. The revo s has always been a solid reel and I had good experiences with the older gen models. I am interested in the tatula but want to hear more reviews before I think about spending the money on one.

I feel like the new Pflueger reels are Revos in sheep's clothing. No me gusta.
You can get a used Smoke for well under $150. It's a nice light reel that casts well. I have a lefty in the flea market.
Why no Shimano? $150 gets you quite the secondhand reel.

Pfleuger Patriarch. For both spinning and baitcasting. The new Patriarch spinning reel is truly a jewel. Pfleuger has completely redesigned the reel, using magnesium, titanium, and carbon-fiber components. The reel weighs just over six ounces.

I actually own the MG, and i think it works perfectly well, feels great. What is the big difference between the mg and regular tourney?

The MG only has magnetic breaks.

Im pretty sure the tp on sale at tw is the 5:1. Im pretty sure I heard they are phasing that out with the bb1 and the bb1 pro in the line up

It (BB1) does have an anti-reverse but it doesn't have an anti-reverse bearing like most modern reels. It has an anti-reverse pawl which allows for a tiny amount of back play.

This is only on the 5.1:1 BB1 reel, all the rest are instant anti reverse, the 5.1:1 has the old anti reverse pawl, all other Lew's reels have the Instant anti reverse bearing. out of everything you mentioned I would only suggest the Lew's, the Mg would be one I would leave alone, the Tournament, and Tournament pro would be my choice and both can be found under $150.00 if your patient and look around!
The new BB1 Pro and BB1 both have the multiple stop pawl on the 5.1 reels and the BB1 is still cataloged. The BB1 Inshore, and BB2 wide spool do not offer the 5.1:1 gear ratio so they are all instant anti reverse.

I have at least one of every Lew's model from the Tournament on up, for over 2 years now they continue to perform better than other brand reels that cost over twice the price. The Super Duty is a great reel for big lures and bigger fish, I use mine on my heavy flipping rig, and for Northern Pike and Muskie. It is a heavier and larger frame reel which I prefer the feel of more on big sticks for heavier work.
You would be better with the smaller frame reels, I mainly use the Team Gold and Team Pro , Tournament and Tournament Pro if you want to use them for light tackle, 1/4 oz or less up to 3/4 oz.
The BB1 Is great for crankbaits and swimbaits where long cast with 3/8oz and larger baits are being used, but also is a larger framed reel than the ones I mentioned. I think for your 150 price tag the Tournament is a good choice, and cheaper if you look around, the Tournament Pro is also a reel steel and can be had for your target price. Good Luck, choose a Lew's and see why I say they are the best bang for the buck, and the best CS in the Industry!!

I'd go with the Quantum. I had a wholesaler/discount house sell me a new quantum bait caster that someone messed up the friction knob assembly I contacted quantum yesterday afternoon, they got back to me right away and needed more numbers besides the model number. About 24 hours later "today" my parts are in the mail. To me that's awesome service for parts. I can repair the reel faster than sending it back for replacement. Plus I put line on it already too. They get my vote just for there awesome service if I ever need another part. They were Even nice enough to include the model number of the reel they cross reference it too. What more can we ask for. I'm hooked on quantum reels now for sure.

I ordered a Revo SX but didn't like it; it didn't cast 1/8 oz. worms well enough for me. I spent the extra money for a Lews Tournament Pro and am very satisfied. You can get them for about $160 on Ebay. Mine came at a higher price from Cabelas. Actually, I've got a BassPro Carbonlite (gold colored) reel that I bought for less than $100 that's almost as good as the Lews! I understand the current black models aren't up to that quality, though.

Good customer service is nice. I had an anti reverse pawl go bad on a reel and Lew's sent me 2 for free! I called them Today and asked them to sell me a reel they haven't released yet. I got a tracking number saying it will be at my house TOMORROW!!!

If you can, get your hands on a Tatula before making your decision. Simply stated, it is an incredible reel. I used my first one today...and have a couple more arriving before the end of the week.
I plan on changing out all of the moving bait reels to this in short order. Distance, accuracy, and ease of throwing lighter baits....combined with the leverage of pulling in a nice fish has me a believer.

Nothing special but a high speed spinning reel with 2 spools and one is extra shallow for braid and the other has carbon fiber on it like my patriarchs spool makes for a lot of reel for $59

all reels mentioned will get the job done. I suggest getting your hands on each reel, and make your own opinion. Other than the Daiwa, all reels mentioned are proven performers and have a following. I say feel them first because you will be using it. I have all Abus and a shimano. I fell in love with the Daiwa Lexa and had to have one. The reel performs flawlessly and its a great reel, but I quickly realized it wasn't the reel for me. Due to my hand placement on the reel while working jigs and other bottom contact baits. I would constantly turn the cast control on the left side of the reel. I would do it without knowing it. I had to take it off my jig rod and now use it strictly for moving baits.
