disappointed by Daiwa 2025

First let start by saying i love Daiwa reels! that being said, i just bought two "new" Fuego (spinning) 2500's i am so disappointed! 270$ bucks a piece! not made in Japan?huh? what the hell man! how much do ya have to spend to get something made in Japan today?anyway,  i open the box,the first reel has got scratches all over the body not only that but it feels like there is a handfull of sand in the gears! the second reel isnt much better,less scratches,less sand though, now i dont know if these were used by someone and then sent back to cabelas or it just the fact that Daiwa's slippin, or that Daiwa reels made in thailand just suck!oh, one other thing i dont like, the fact that there is no bearing under the spool,just a bushing , again 270$!, there should be a bearing under the spool for support!the Quantum enegry pti has two!130$, go figure. anyway,like i said in the begining i love Daiwa reels,i just think that for the money, these Fuego reels should be a lot better,thanks for listening.

wow   thats terrible.  last year i bought the veinto bastcasting reel and first time out with it the line guide thing started to act up. i thought it was a malfunction so i exchanged it. this new one lasted me a few weeks but did the same excalt thing   i will never buy another daiwa in my life

Went out a couple of weeks ago and picked up a Diawa Exceler 2000 spinning reel for the wife to use to catch a few redfish on the Delta.  I spooled in with 8# Stren mono and mounted it on a 6' Quantum Tournament Grade rod. So far the reel has landed two fish.  A 14" red and a 25lb Jack Crevalle! Took 40 minutes to reel it in.  The reel held up perfectly!

I have all Daiwa baitcast reels except for one Quantum and I love them all. But..........

I bought an Exceler 2500 spinning reel and it's OK, but nothing great. Can't compare to my Shimano Symetre. I was going to buy a more expensive Daiwa spinning reel figuring 'you get what you pay for' but think I'll stick with Shimano or maybe look into a US Reel spinning. Of course, I am sure a Steez would be worth the money!!!

oh, without question they are going back,i mean the whole reason i bought them was to compliment my steez 2508,which by the way i love! they/it, were/was supposed to be "steez" quality without the steez price tag, yeah right! because magnesium is pricey,they used carbon fiber resin. it's not a bad looking reel,just not worth the 270-280$ price tag,imho, so i quess i answerd my own question on how much do you have to pay for "made in Japan". a lot more $ than 270-280. which is a damm shame.

that sux. love my diawa tho.... i cant imagine going out without my 100h. its awesome. :-/

Scratched up?  You need to take them back...sounds like they are used.  Some people will use a reel, clean it up, and put it back in the wrapper and pass it off as new when they return it.  It then ends up in your hands.  I always inspect a reel before I buy it to make sure.  I've played with the new Fuego at Cabelas and it is nothing short of sweet and impressive...I wanted one pretty bad but didn't want to shell out the $270.  

How about posting a pic of your reels.  I'd like to see the scratches....

Man that is terrible. Don't mean to sound harsh, but why would you spend that kind of cash and not bother to open the box? :-?  With that kind of damage, I'd be returning those reels double time.

I second the posting of pics. Looks like someone screwed with those reels first.

I don't think this has anything to do with Daiwa, the Fuego, where they were built or the pricing point. Cabelas is at fault. Their return policy is exceptional, but a few people take advantage of the situation and return mechandise that is ruined. It's Cabela's responsibility to weed out the bad seeds. To resend these reels "as new" is simply unacceptable. Return the reels for exchange, I'm sure you will be very happy with "new" Daiwa Fuego reels.

If you are looking for a Daiwa reel that compares with the Symetre try the Dick's exclusive Daiwa Capricorn. I have both reels and the Capricorn edges out the Symetre to me because of the bail and handle. Shimano has addressed this with the new Symetre. That reel has a better bail and handle.

Family, return those reels and if you are not satisfied with the quality of the Daiwa reel for the price try something else.

I think this guy posted that he bought a Stella that grinded horribly.  He must have some 'bad luck' with buying reels  :-?

Front drag or rear drag the Symetre is a great reel highly spoken of within this site. But if the Capricorn is on par??? I will have to check it out!!!

When you check it out you will see what I have experienced firsthand. Both reels have aluminum bodies. The Capricorn has 8 bearings the Symetre only 5 but 4 of them are anti-rust. The Capricorn has a machined aluminum handle while the Symetre has a hollow handle that to be honest is pretty much the same handle I have on my lower end Shimano Sedona and Slade reels. The Capricorn's bail is sturdier than the Symetre's which is pretty flimsy for a reel of its caliber. I want to state again that the new Symetre that came out this month has the better handle and bail but it is also $20 more and no spare spool.

First off... it sounds like a little research would have prevented a big disappointment. You don't have to look hard to find out where they are made.

Secondly, rough and scratched up reels are not new... this is a common problem with the big retailers. Blame them, not Daiwa. Return the reels for "new ones."  I hope you get it resolved and blame the retailer... otherwise you'll end up hating all the manufacturers, since the retailers so often re-sell returned reels.

My Fuego was actually new, and just as perfect as any stella or steez I have seen in a store. Of course, I bought it in a store, not on-line. I've also gotten a few bad ones from BPS and Cabela's so I quit buying from them on-line.

I think the poster is pulling our leg, what are the chances of getting 1, let alone 2 used/abused/crappy reels in the same order form a reputable seller, slim to none. Just trolling for a controversy, I call BS on this one.

Oh yeah, those Daiwa reels suck, they are POS, junk, no better than the dirt I 'm standing on, gotta see what I can do with the 10 Daiwa reels I have.

The problem as everyone here has stated isn't Daiwa's problem (or any MFG for that matter) it is the return policies of many of the big box stores (especially on-line).

Try getting of the backside, and actually visiting a tackle shop or big box store, and placing hands on the reels you want to purchase.

I don't know I would be so fast to blame Cabelas. This makes the fourth high end reel this guy has bought that either grinded, were scratched or both. I never have such issues and my most expensive reel goes for 99 bucks

first off, i didnt start this post to slam Daiwa or start a coup on Cabelas ,you can call BS all you want. DON"T REALLY CARE!the fact still remains!i bought two reels that were made in thailand, and i think they are crap,for reasons stated earlier,GO FIGURE!another thing is a have a JOB,dont have the time to drive 400 miles to bass pro/cableas in P.A.,so i order it from thier webpage,just like 1000's do everyday! i got my steez2508 from Cabelas,thing is awesome! now, on to shimano, yes thats right, i also had 3 stellas that in the begining they were ok reels, 1 did have a grinding problem,EVEN AFTER I SENT IT IN FOR REPAIR, did a whole disertation on tackle about it,AGAIN.YOUR POINT IS? >.if i am not mistaken a whole lot people have had problems with thier shimano reels as well,they are LYING TOO? sounds to me that we have some people out here for whatever reason like to take shots at people,well, keep reloading.I"M BULLIT PROOF!

You wouldn't be the first person to complain of a grinding Stella (or bail problems on Stratics). Just visit some saltwater or striper boards.

It's a breeze to prove haters wrong...just snap a pic of your two Fuegos and they can all eat crow! Everybody has a digital camera these days...vindication is awesome!

I don't think that anyone would put up a post to get SLAMMED!!!

One thing I have learned about this site is that folks are very protective and defensive of the gear they use. Let's think back to the first reel you caught that first bass on. It wasn't a Steez (probably) or a Curado. It came from K-Mart or Dick's, or Walmart.... get my point??

Did anyone every think that some "MANAGER" at these big chain stores came up with the great idea to sell returned reels over the internet to make more $$$ with the idea that people would just eat them as opposed to going through the PITA of sending them back??? Great deals are to be had on the internet, no doubt, but the advantage of seeing the product is gone.

I'd still fish even if I had to use my Walmart Storm reel and Durango rod...I think we all would.

PS Give the guy a break!!!!!
