I bought two spools and I don't see why so many folks suggest this crap. My line has snapped so many times in the past month on BIG fish. At the knot, in the middle and everywhere else. Been using the 12 lb, and I am very particular about setting my drag a little looser after i set the hook so it's not a drag issue. I'd also like to think i'm pretty good at steering a fish in, so it's not that i'm fightin em too hard I even re-tie after catching the ones i do catch (1-3 pounds) But the 5, 6, and 7's are breaking off. gonna have to go back to my Trilene Maxx or some 50 lb braid. This is the only advice I've ever gotten from this site that didn't live up to my expectations, but don't worry, i still love you guys

i could be doing something that i don't realize though. any feedback?

I don't know what you are doing that would be wrong. Maybe you bought a couple bad spools? I have used 15 lb. CX for the last two years and I have never had any problems. If the line is right, it should be pretty freakin' hard to break.

I don't like CX personally, I experienced very similar issues as you are. I prefer CXX if I need a line that floats and has some stretch only. Otherwise I use fluorocarbon and braid.

I tried cxx for two fishing trips, kept breaking for no apparent reason. Went back to yozuri hybrid without issues.

i don't care for it either it was horrible.. i only have mono on my topwater and shallow running spinnerbait rod everything else is fluorocarbon so i dont use mono that much but when i do you can bet it is trilene big game that the best mono i have found imo

I have not used the CX. I love the CXX. For me it is clearly better than YZ Hybrid. I guess that is why there are hundreds of different lines available...

Give the Yozuri Ultrasoft a try..I've tried a few different copoly's and FC's..so far yozuri hasn't let me down.. 8-)

CX has replace Yo-Zuri Hybrid as my go to, workhorse line. I've never had any breakage issues, I use 12 and 15 lb mostly. I've found it to be extremely durable and user friendly, not as strong as Hybrid but far less memory. I've been using it heavily for the last year and a half, I haven't experienced any breakage whatsoever like the op describes.

another good co-poly that you should try is Izorline XXX . this line is strong and is quite supple , doesn't kink as much as P-line CXX which is why you get alot of breakoffs from these kinks in your line sometimes pretty far back into the spool . the only time i use cxx is when i need a lighter line for my spinning reels and then i use 6 lb. CXX .

but anyhow , give some Izorline XXX a try , pretty cheap and an exceptional line .

as far as Yo-zuri , you guys see something in that line that i don't see ! the worst line i have ever used , bar none !!! just my opinion 8-)

Mostly use CXX, I have some CX but don't use it much, no real reason, just don't. I use CXX from 8-20lb across the board with no problems. The benefit of CX comes with the manageability, it is extremely more manageable in higher diameters than CXX. Manageability is one of the last specs on my mind when using line, once it gets wet, you're good to go. I've seen Big Tom absolutely reek havoc in standing timber with 15lb CX and a 766 Powell. He was pulling fish out if the middle of a tree line with the drag buttoned down and horsing them to the top, not all small fish either. This is what most of the lake looks like, some places alot worse

I like PLine Fluoroclear better than CX when it comes to impact resistance. It's not very abrasion resistant, but I've never had it snap solely due to a big fish pulling on it - and I've used the 15# stuff to catch hard-fighting 10#+ river carp that swim against strong currents every day.

P Line is bad. All of it. Do not pay regular price for it. Don't pay sale price for it. Don't buy it. P line is bad.

I got some CX amd it was HORRIBLE! Switched to some CXX will see how it does tomorrow.

The CX would break just by looking at it.lol

cx is bad about "snapping" on hook set for me... I like CXX when it comes to baitcasters.

I don't like CX personally, but CXX is a very good line, in the lighter tests especially. But even good lines have factory defects once in a while. I recently had a bad spool of 12# that had a few weak spots straight off the spool. They looked all curled up like they had ben burned with a lighter, and I could break the line in my hands easily.

So I tried out the CXX yesterday, very disappointed. Caught a small 2lbs lmb on a 1/4oz swim jig and on the hook set, very slight movement the line snapped and made a horrible pop sound. So I am done with P-Line.

I'm a fan of the CXX for all my crankbait applications. Any other application I use fluoro or braid.

You guys that are breaking CXX on a cast or hookset must be super human or doing something completely wrong.

I throw 2 - 10 oz baits on the stuff and have never had a problem. I set the hook HARD on Hudds and other below surface baits and have not had issues.

I've had nothing but good experiences with the CXX.

I have 12 and 15# CXX on my baitcasters, and my issue occasionally is getting it to break. I think I could go to 20# and remove stumps. It is the strongest, toughest line I've used and with a little KVD Line and Lure it handles well for me.

I'd be checking the line guides ands stuff if i were him. I'm quite curious how he does on another brand of line now.If he's snapping P-line...he's going to be snapping anything else as well.

I have 6# CX on a Daiwa A.o.i 2506R And it has been flawless (However I use Spinning reels VERY little like 1-2 hours out of 50 fishing) but ive never had a break off with it. I have a 2004 TD-Z Type R+ 2506C with 8# CX on it and same thing never had a break off with it... I have 6# Shooter FC on the extra spool and comparing the two lines breaking test seems close but the CX is listed at 8# but we all know shooter over tests its listed line rating a lot... the CX is very stretchy compared to Sunline Machine Gun Cast of the same rating... I have never fished CXX but I love the way CX handles on Spinning reels and wow is it thin is 6 or 8# it is as thin maybe even a little thinner then Machine gun cast and that stuff is THIN!

I have have a Alphas R/JDM Steez FLOGGER with 20# CX on it and never had a break off that I can remember.. now once again I dont fish this rig much.. I dont fish mono but every now and then... I use FC and braid or braid/FC leader on everything but top water and some times Spinner baits and lipless cranks I use the Flogger for ripping spinner baits and lipless baits through thinner hydrilla.. but most of the time I do it with braid or FC because its thick most of the time here in FL but when its not I really like doing it with mono and CX works like a champ and not to stretchy in 20# if CXX really is that much tougher and handles fairly on Spinning reels I will give it a try next time I refill with mono/copoly.

And yes I know CX is Copoly but to me Copolys are mono so I call them mono as they are just coated with FC and to me there isnt much difference.

One reason he maybe having break offs is CX is VERY knot sensitive even more so then most FC's it only likes a improved clinch knot and it has to be tied well.. tie it with plenty of spit on it and then pull and clinch it down SLOWLY... palomar knot=break off at the knot on CX in any pound test... if thats what you are tying thats why your breaking off.. I tested it... palomar knot well tied on the 8# stuff can be broke by hand with ease and it will break at the knot every time.. if you tie a improved clinch and tie it well it test very well and never breaks at the knot... I tested it with a few knots and I/Clinch knot takes the cake and it wont slip at all you can cut the tag as close as you want once you clinch it down.

that's what i'm tying with SJB, i always hock a big ole' loogie on it and cinch it down pretty darn slowly and it's still breaking. i thought it was me for the longest time so i kept adjusting/experimenting with different knots and drag. even bought another spool when i ran out and ran into the same issues. none of which i had during my career with Trilene Maxx
