Wanting a new reel. Narrowed it down.... 2025

to Revo S, Revo SX, Curado 200E or Johnny Morris Signature. Basically I fish mostly soft plastics, but since I may use it for spinnerbaits or crankbaits rarely. Want something smooth and will last a long time. (I haven't bought a bass reel since early 90's and still have them, the Quantum Tour Ed. US600s)

Best place to buy also?

Of that list the Shimano Curado 200E is the top dog. Its light, smooth and has an excellent track record for performance.

If you we talking STX or Premier it would be closer...

I can only speak for the Revo S. I have four and they are great. Hard to beat some of the deals you can find in the flea market here on BR. I like tacklewarehoue but I think for a new reel the price is pretty close to the same everywhere.

yeah, I did not want to be the first with the Shimano vs. Abu agument, but I have a 200E5 and 2009 Preimer. Curado by a mile. You have to experiement and get the cent. brake set, but once you do it is pure joy! The reel just feels so solid in my hand, have complete faith in that Shimano!

I have never owned anything other than Abu and Quantum, so I wasn't familiar with BPS and Shimano. I have not gone to the store to actually handle them yet, but plan on it soon since I just got the money today. Thought I would do some homework and get some first-hand info from owners first.

Read reviews of each on bassproshops website and ***.com. In fact, I am not fimilar with it, but I think TW has a Demo program. The Shimano Curado looks a little weird and goofy, but it is engineered really well! (So are Abu's and Quantam) The Curado is butter. One thing I would suggest is where ever you got to look at these reels do not make judgement on the reels that are out for everyone to play with. Those could be damaged and very worn out, not the best specimens. Ask for ones in the boxes still to play with and get a feel for.

I would say Curado...the JM Sig is a pretty nice reel for the price if you are talking about the chrome one. I have a buddy that fishes them and old blue tours and wouldn't trade them for anything. He's fished Fuegos and Revos and still like the JM better.

Tackle Tour has excellent reviews as well. Certainly try the reel out for feel.

I have been looking at the 2010 Premeir and just added the Curado 51E to my collection.

For cranking my options were more limited since I needed lefty. I went with a Revo Winch there which is excellent for what I use it for.

and not to get things really confusing but Daiwa Advantage is a serious contender here.

FYI, if you decide on the Revo S, be sure to check your local Walmart. Mine has the Revo S priced at 100 dollars even, which is about 29.00 cheaper than most places.

i used to have a few revo sx's the 09 model no the red n black new model. i bought a curado and fell in love with how smooth and light they feel in your hands. i also have a few citicas and they are not to far from the curado. go with the curado you wont be dissapointed ;D

Gotta go with the Curado here - but I'm biased.

The Daiwa Advantage is a pretty sweet reel too.

Just nothing quite matches the smoothness of a Curado retrieve.

SX all the way!!! I have 2, my brother has one and my dad has like 5. THese reels are so smooth and they worl amazing, they will throw weightless plastics but if you put a lipless crankbait on there you will throw a mile. It really comes down to whish one feels better in your hand and on your specific rod

BTW my friend used all Shimanos (he transfered to Ardent) and he had a Chronarch 50mg and a Core 100E and he loved shimano but he would not buy a Curado, idk why but he was gonna get a Pro-Qualifier b4 he got a Curado

Well, here is another vote for the Curado. In addition to my 200E7 I have three Curado 100B's several years old and they perform just a smoothly today as when I bought them. They are simply engineered, many internal components are interchangeable with other models, use strong materials, simple bearing placement and just last and last. I also have three Citica 100DSV's (which are really just another version of the Curado 100B) and three Citica 200E's, which are the identical reel body of the Curado 200. Can anyone tell I am a Shimano fan?

my first baitcaster was a revo...then i bought a curado and citica and will never buy another abu again. Its all personal preference and everyones going to have their own opinion. Both are great reel i just found the curado to be much easier to use and much smoother, it also casted the lighter texas rigs and light cranks better. Good Luck!

got the hsta and the e7 and the hsta is a bit smoother but the curado is sweet!

I have never used a Diawa, but like Shimano they have been around in the reel making buisness for a long time!!! I would say you can not go wrong with either and it will come down to personal preference.

I have used the sx and the e7. They run a pretty tight race. The sx feels more solid and smoother, but the e7 casts a lot more "hassle free". The curado is also lighter.

My choice would be the e7 narrowly.

For what it is worth, I own all four, and find the Curado far and away the best of the group.

The Abu's just aren't as smooth and consistent as the Curado. They're overpriced for their performance, in my opinion.

The Johnny Morris is a nice reel, but heavier than the Curado. Also quite a bit bulkier, so it doesn't feel as nice in the hand. I actually think it performs better than the Revo SX.

The Power Knobs are so comfortable. I don't even want to use my Citica anymore...

Plus the Curado is so noticeably better than any reel I've fished it puts the others to shame.

Revo SX over the rest. Not a fan of the JMO's handle knobs. Curado is okay. Revo S is solid for the money. I would steer you towards the Daiwa Advantage 153HSTA though. I think you will be much happier in the long run. Mag Z braking is easier to adjust on the fly and makes casting into the wind simple. Also with the 11 bearings just a much smoother reel than the rest. Go to your local store and check it out.

So, I probably should have paid attention to your last post. Hope the Curado works for you. Definitely a good choice even though it's not a Daiwa. I owned a Curado for a little while just thought the Daiwa's casted better and for $180 didn't see the need to keep it around.
