I just picked up a mojo bass spinner bait rod and am planning on using it with 1/2 & 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits. So my question is what would be the best line to use for this kind of fishing?
I'm doing the same thing this summer and I'll be using braid with a mono leader. I imagine a lot of guys use straight mono as well.
I throw 12 lb yozuri hybrid, works great for this type of application.
15-17 lb mono or fluoro or 30-40 lb braid + leader
Have the same rod and use it for the same applications. I use 15# seaguar red label and it seems to be perfect. If need be, the rod can double as a flipping/trig/crig rod.
I use 15lb Red Label. If I go night fishing I sometimes use braid (with no leader) bc i throw buzzbaits as well.

Ditto...I use the same combo for both also

I have been using 20-30lb braid for the last 2 years and have done well with spinnerbaits on that line. I cant say that the visibility of braid has been a reason i have gotten less bites and i fish pretty clear water. I would add a leader if i felt it necessary.

Why 30-40lb braid when 15-17lb mono is sufficient? Is this just a matter of diameter and the ability to spool more braid vice something that is actually easier to cast/use? Honest question, I'm new.

It's just a matter of preference. If the chatterbait or spinnerbait is being thrown into grass, the braid may help rip the bait free easier.
I use 12 to 15 lb Yo-Zuri hybrid now , used to be Suffix Elite in 12 to 15 lb never had a problem with neither.
15lb Invizx
I'm usually going with 14 lb Bucatini, 15 lb Fusilli or 17 lb Spiralini.

Are those Italian or something? LOL
12 cxx, no question. 15 if you really need something strong.
One of my best days ever spinnerbait fishing was when I had a rod spooled up with 10# fluoroclear because I was planning on jerkbait and crankbait fishing. So it can be done on lots of different line

I must have misremembered the question . . .
It was late.

#12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Seaguar AbrazX
15lb Big Game for me.
12# Berkley 100% Fluoro would be my choice.

I think braid is optimal of you fishing vegetation but other then that something in 15# or 12# if it is CXX.
15# hybrid for me.
How would opinions change if this was a rivercreek application?

It wouldn't.
When I lived up north I used 14# mono pretty much exclusively. Upon moving to Florida I soon switched to 17# and finally 20# Sufix Siege. The size of the fish and the density of the weeds prompted the switch.
I have tried flourocarbon and braid at various times. I don't care for flouro and reserve thel use of braid for super thick weeds.
12lb seaguar red label works perfect for me. I have the same rod as you.
