this may be a Mr. Obvious question...
does KVD line conditioner work on mono?
i see where it is always recommended for fluoro.
is it necessary for mono? i use trilene XL and XT
there is some memory with these...not a lot...but if KVD will help it would be worth it
thanks...
KVD line and lure works on all fishing line. It will take some memory out of mono and make it a little slicker which helps casting distance. And if you flip a lot with mono it will help the line slide through your fingers much better.
I noticed that it turned my line a bright chalky white. It this normal?
I Love the stuff when it is wet but it makes my line show up more when it is day. Anyone notice this or do I have a bad bottle of it?
It works great on fluorocarbon and mono. Do not use on braid.
This stuff works GREAT on ALL lines!
Take a look at the KVD Line & Lure website,
it provides a great deal of detailed information:

I am kind of having Deja Vu here, but yes KVD line conditioner works as advertised on ALL lines.
i love it on mono...
It works on mono, fluorocarbon, and supposedly all the cheap braid like fire line, and spider wire. Don't use it on power pro.
Yes.
Use it on mono.

why not? it worked great on my power pro! mater of fact, it worked great on all of my lines, and I was skeptical at first!
sweet daddy broke his line and blames it on the KVD. We have
addressed his comment on a number of threads and he simply
won't leave it alone. In fact, he makes it a point to bring it
up with negative posts at every opportunity. I think you should
try KVD Line & Lure Conditioner for yourself. Most of us really
like the product.

Works great on Mono and Flouro. Have not used it much on Braid, have not seen the need to. One other good thing about it with Flouro especially, but mono or braid to, is if you use it on your knot as your tying it, you will get a good solid knot.

You make it a point to say it works on fire line, the other cheap braids. I point out that it has failed on two occasions on real braid. I never said it's a bad product, I just warn people not to use it on power pro.

I am not in the MOST OF US CLUB either. I use Berkley Trilene XL, and I really did not see any benefits using any of the 2 conditioners I tried, KVD being one of them. Added expense and work with out any returns. The only thing around my boat that has memory issues is me
I wont fish power pro without it now.

You are supposed to spray it on your line, not your jeans. God knows you don't need help with your jean slipping down revealing butt-crack.
Seriously, though. I didn't see much benefit from it, either. Maybe a little, but not enough that if I didn't know it was on the line that I would have said "Hey, what's up with this line!" I did spray it on some 8lb test Trilene XL that I had on a spinning reel. What I did notice is that I had a lot of line twist issues - more than usual.
I just don't experience issues that necessitate the use of this product. My casting distance is fine and memory in the line is not that big of an issue.
What I do do is wipe my rods down with a damp cloth after fishing with them, dry them, then wipe them down, including the guides, with Lemon Pledge. I will also wipe down the reels. It does make the guides slick and smells pretty. A lot of saltwater fishermen I know use Lemon Pledge since it will counteract salt.

Any dollar store wax does the same thing, I use auto wax(lasts longer) for my spoons, keeps them corrosion free.
It's kind of odd how some of the responses to this question indicate the product works great, but others can't notice any benefit.
I wonder if the effect is partly psychological--not that that would make it irrelevant. I've honestly noticed that my car will run smoother and accelerate and corner faster after I've washed and waxed it. At least it feels like it.
I haven't used the product yet. I was wondering if it worked myself and found this discussion via a google search.
Depends....on a lot of things. Your needs. Your expectations. Opinions you've heard and read from others....what type of line it was used on; mono, fluoro, hybrid, braid, monotex...etc...what diameter line? Spinning? Casting? How long ago was the reel spooled?
So, you're right...lots of subjectivity in opinions here...but if you can weed out some of the variables, you might have better info....or just try it yourself...too many people swear by it for it to be a huge risk/total waste of money.
For me... I absolutely swear by it on my reels with Yo-Zuri Hybrid (6-12#). I spray it on the night before...and sometimes again right before hitting the water. I wouldn't consider mono without it....same for most fluro....I don't use it on braid or Gliss, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't help them, too.
Makes a momentous difference on spinning gear....a big, but maybe not quite momentous difference on baitcasting.
I am anxious to try the can I ordered from TW. I have used Reel Manic years ago. I pretty much only use braid too.

Total bull. Been using it on Power Pro for almost a decade. It's fine. You did something wrong, got a bad batch of line, or had some other issue like a cracked guide insert or something.

And we're warning people of your UNFOUNDED claim.
It really depends on the line. Some lines need it far less than others.
But yes it works. It works very well. I've fished some lines that I just couldn't stand the coiling and the memory, backlashing all the time. Used the line conditioner on it and it made the line way more fishable.
Now if you spray it on a line that has very little memory then obviously the result will be a on a smaller margin.
I said it in a previous thread about KVD line conditioner and I will repeat it here. I use it on my Power Pro braid and I find it to make the line smoother and cast farther. Understand some have a different opinion on it. Everyone is certainly entitled to that. I run pretty much all braid with fluorocarbon leaders and have been using KVD on all my braided reels for years and I have never had any breakoffs that I could say was caused by the conditioner. Been good to me

The perfect definition of YMMV (Your mileage may vary)
For me it works. I use it on Mono and Fluro and notice it reduces the line memory issues I have.
KVD L&L? No idea if it works - have never had the need to use it. But I am impressed with the resurrection and quoting of an 8 year old post Nicely done guys
Eight years later and still using the product as well as recommending it to others.
What is the big deal, if you do not want to use it, don't use it. I do and have on all lines and it works and my lines do not turn chalky, bleached, purple, blue, or yellow with polka dots.
Boy, this subject is getting beaten to death and this is what the company says:
"Line & Lure is a special polymer blend that becomes part of the fishing line it is applied to. Other line treatments you find on the market are primarily silicone oil and solvents. Silicone oil only temporarily coats the line and solvents can damage line. Silicone oil rapidly comes off the line (on your hands and in the water), requiring re-treatment of the line after just a few casts.
The special polymers in Line & Lure are hydrophobic (water repelling) and very slippery. It doesn't allow water to draw back on to the reel spool, which eliminates the line drag that a "wet" spool has. It also protects the line from wearing out as quickly as un-treated line because it resists the abrasion that wears line out. It contains no oils or solvents as in Reel Magic that can build up and collect dirt like silicone/oil treatments will".
I was introduced to this product at one of the Bass Resource RoadTrips. We all got free samples. Been using, and recommending it, ever since.
One note of caution when applying L&L with a rag. Do not use cotton. This is straight from the people who make the product. They told us this when they introduce it to us, and explained it's benefits and application. Something about interfering with the ionic bond between the line and the product. I've slept a couple of times since that trip, so I dont remember the details.
I have always suspected the reports of the product not working as advertised being the result of the use of cotton during application.
WOW! 8 Years! L&LC still working...well, I don't use it
much these days, with braid and all that. Though I do
have a bottle still. S'pose I could use it on my braided
main line....

I've found the best and most economical way to apply it when spooling is to use a nylon.
You use less and for the reason .ghoti posted.

Mike, can we assume while using said nylon to apply KVD to your line, the nylon was not being used in it's original capacity?

Yes Sir,
However, as in most things timing is everything!
