Daiwa Sv Alpha 2024

Since I took the advice of a member here,and ordered a Sv105 Alpha,I was hoping someone could suggest a good rod to pair ith this little jewel.Would a medium ,or medium light be preferable.I was condidering getting a medium expride that has a moderate fast action for smaller jerkbait,crankbait,and senko's.and weightless worm fishing.Any othe suggestions would be appreciated,and thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Mine currently sits on a Falcon Cara Headturner. I have tried it on an NRX 853 and Dobyns 734 but I like the Cara the best.

Major Craft Volkey. Either the VKC-68L/bfs (reg-fast) or the VKC-69ML/bfs (ex-fast). The 65ML basic series rod would also be a great match. There is one on eBay from a seller named Jimdep who I had a good experience with. $145 tyd from Massachusetts. He uses PVC pipe for shipping. The bfs rods are $170 and ship from Singapore through shimreels, who is also a good shipper.

I'd say look into a Major Craft MS-X 65ML or one of the baitfinesse rods in that series, but unless you get lucky you're looking at almost $300. Those Volkey's really nice rods with the perfect power/action for that reel.

Also, I've no experience with them, but there is a Gan Craft Killers-00 Blue Series Assault model on eBay from a great seller. It's 6'6" ML/F 3/16-1/2. They are sometimes offered for nearly twice that.

All the rods I've mentioned are new.

I've have nothing to offer...just ordered one myself and been racking my brain to find a good rod to pair with it too. I've been looking at a phenix recon or a cumara.

I don't think that you can go wrong with any of these choices. I'm putting mine on a phenix recon 683 & moving my alderbaran bfs to the 682 or a volkey.

Mine is on a Shimano Cumulus. Rod fishes between a Medium and a Medium Light. Have no idea how it is labeled a MH. I use it for 1/8 to 3/8 oz baits. Sort of mag finesse rod. The rod has been discounted but they are a 3 oz rod that has incredible feel and is a killer jerkbait rod too. Used they often show up for under $250.

Choose your rod based on the lure weights you'll be using. A 5" senko and hook weighs 3/8ths oz. A lot more than most even realize. My Alphas SV is on a 6'7 m/f rod and I use it for all the things you mentioned. You'll love the reel.

Did you buy that 6'5 ml MS-X for 175.00 that JimDep had listed on Ebay? I was eyeballing that for quite some time, but talked myself into staying with the all custom theme.

Yes sir! Couldn't pass that up. I bought the ss sv he had, too. Awesome combo. It balances directly under the reel and the combo only tips the scales at 9.1 oz. It's absolutely feather light and effortless to use. I was pinpoint pitching a 1/4 oz shakey head with a 5" dot crawler with it today. It was like the setup was doing it on its own.

For the record, the four missing bearings are all in the knobs of the ss sv.

Sounds like you might of got a reel someone stole the bearings from. Especially if it was used. Mine and Ghoti's both were bought new and had 1 bearing in each knob along with a bushing. The tt review says the same thing too. Trey also just got one and his had 2 bearings. I bought a Steez that arrived that way from Japan. It had 2 plastic bushings in each knob and I know that reel doesn't come with no bearings at all in the knobs. I don't know of any Daiwa that has removable knobs that doesn't have at least 1 bearing per knob. Easy fix though. A lot quicker then doing the levelwind bearing. It was nice of them to include that. A lot of their reels don't have it. Even pricey ones you'd think would come with it stock.

crap, that means I still have to tear it down and measure bushings. I thought it still felt like there was something missing, but figured it still needed a little break in time. Oh well, no big deal. I am glad they went ahead and threw the wormshaft bearing in there. Surely no one swiped that one.

If you have anywhere nearby that sells rc car stuff they should have them in stock.

Yeah, I got those already, that's the only reason I know mine didn't have any in the knobs. TT made it sound both ways in their review, so I thought that was how they made it. At one point they say it has non-bearing supported knobs, and then a caption for a pic of two bushings says one bearing and one bushing like you said and I expected, and then on the spec list it says bearings per knob: 2 bushings. I have the schematic, but my Japanese is pretty rusty, lol, so I'll have to look to see where the other two bushings are and find those bearings at the rc store.

I got to try the alpha SV over the weekend,and I was amazed at casting distance of this reel with the ml volkey rod,I was casting as far as my son with his penn conflict spinning reel,and it's a good caster.I'm going to send this reel in to get bearing upgrades,and carbonexdrag washers this winter after fishing season this year,and also send the SS Sv for upgrade,and be ready (God Willing) this spring.

Choose a rod for the application not just what reel is on it. Remember rods cast baits and reels store and retrieve line.

After crawling across every forum on the subject I could find, I found a post by someone on tackletour who said that the knobs were bearingless as if it were a matter of fact. So I finally got a spare half hour to tear it apart and have a look and found bearings everywhere they should be. No bushings in sight.

So, while I'm as baffled as anyone about why they wouldn't just install the bearings to begin with (in this case weight, maybe?), I'm thinking that one day in the Daiwa factory, someone at the parts counter mislabeled a case of alphas handles or something and sent it out to the assembly line. Maybe you and ghoti just lucked out. In any case, I'd kill to get my hands on one of those steez sv's and compare how they feel.

I know it! That ms-x 65ml/ss sv pitches shakey heads and wacky jigs like nobody's business and will launch a spinbait 80 way further than you'd expect. Plus it's built for accurate target casting and for that it's laser-beam precise. Very hard to put down. Though, there's very little reason to...

I'm glad you like it. Not sure who wouldn't, but if you didn't I'd have felt bad, anyway.

My point is that different people are saying different things regarding the handles, sometimes in the same review, I found seven bearings inside the reel and 0 in the knobs. What is more likely, that someone swiped 2 cheap bearings from the knobs, yet added 2 somewhere internally to a NIB reel or that it was manufactured that way?

The review on TT says it both ways, but the picture with the caption reading 1 bearing and one bushing per knob is of one knob, a screw, and 2 bushings.

I understand that alphas have one bearing per knob just like a lot of other models, that's why I suggested that a box of alphas handles got mislabeled and sent to the Ss sv assembly line or something like that. Who knows, just speculating. I thought we were being civil. I have no idea why.

I believe it's posspossible that mistakes are being made with Daiwa assembly. My understanding is they are having some turnover. When I received my SS SV, much to my surprise it had 4 bushings in the handle. Call me crazy, but I've never seen a black plastic bearing and I know no bearings were in there. Nobody is going to convince me otherwise.

Right, and if you open it up, you'll find 7 bearings. It's a 7+1 reel. If yours came with the typical 2 bearing / 2 bushing handle, BONUS!, you got a 9+1 ss sv.
