2013 Abu Garcia Revos (Stirring The Pot...) 2024

fishing user avatarMegastink reply :

I saw of Pitman Creek Wholesale's twitter feed today that they apparently just recieved either a sample or shipment (I think the first one) of the new 2013 Abu Garica Revo reels.

According to the quote, the new Revos are lighter, stronger, and more compact (thank GOD for the latter).

This makes sense, with ICAST in a few months and all Revos dropping in price. I'm no insider (I think I've made that clear), but I DO LOVE FISHING GOSSIP!!!!!

Can't wait to see the new line!

What do you all hope to see in the Gen III Revos?

fishing user avatarjeb2 reply :

The ONLY thing I hope they change on the Premier is giving it a harder finish. It doesn't bother me personally, but they do show boat rash pretty fast and I think that drives away potential sales. Making it a little lighter would be nice too, but it's already a very light reel. And I don't think we're going to see much there since that would then start infringing on the super light MGX's sales edge. I just hope they don't mess them up, more than anything else. I still think the current generation Premier is, by far, the best bang for the buck reel on the USDM market.

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

I agree with jeb - more durable finish please.

fishing user avatarOkobojiEagle reply :

jeb2... other than weight, tell me what advantage the Premier has over the STX.

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

It would be nice if you open the box and saw a Shimano inside....

fishing user avatarChristian M reply :

Id rather open it & see a quantum sitting there...

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

i think a lews would be better to see in that box lol

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

here's what i wanna see:

  1. longer handles standard — the 80mm handles on the 1st and 2nd generation revos are just strangely short
  2. more durable finishes — the chrome on the thumb bars discolor with use and the tops rash very easily (dunno if that is a quality of materials issue or a design issue or both)
  3. more ergonomic knobs — some people may like them but i can't stand the rectangular knobs abu uses. i don't think i'm alone either as you often see used ones with rib marks on the knobs from those accessory 'reel grips' that people put on
  4. continuation of design — here's a little thing about my SXs and STX that just drove me a little nuts. the SX has the nice red on the handle and spool but didn't continue to add a red accent to the sideplate...why not make the mag dial red, or perhaps the bezel around the mag dial? same thing with the orangey-gold spool, spool tension and drill hole accents on the STX...you get to the side plate and it's all silver. i have a little bit of a design background so i notice little things like that i guess.

fishing user avatardcorp reply :

Well check out the new revos, THUT has them available now and they look nice. Way lighter than Gen 2. They really fixed the boring/tired look of the STX, now it actually looks like a $200 reel. Anyways I just pulled the trigger on a gen 3 STX. I'll let you know what I think when I get it.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

only thing i find fishy is the abu garcia site has no info on them and iCast hast happened yet how do these guys have them already?

fishing user avatardcorp reply :

Ya I was wondering how they got them first, but those guys are legit. I have ordered from them before and they have great customer service. Plus they are one of the few online tackle retailers that are not located in California so it saves me paying sales tax.

fishing user avatarj.bruno reply :

So is it pre order? Or are they are ready to ship is the ?

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

Looks to be pre-order, but they don't say anything on the website about how long the wait is. I guess a guy could call and find out. Listing the new Premier for $279, which is the same price (before the latest price adjustment) as the 2012 Premier, so it appears that unlike some reel manufacturers, they didn't use this new model roll-out as an excuse to raise prices.

I don't see anything in the description mentioning whether or not this new version had a more durable exterior.

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

They look to have the same profile as the new JM Carbonlite. Maybe they used BPS as a test run....

d**n it!!!!!! I just started buying Lews reels...... Well, I guess I'll have to buy one of those pretty little Abus... or two... or four...

Ok, so I called about when they are getting their first shipment and it won't be until end of Aug! I'm not good at waiting.....

fishing user avatarj.bruno reply :

Looks like the spools might be wider. Ill have to try them out!

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Looks all the same to me. I think Im still just going to keep the "S"himano on my chest.

fishing user avatarjj'sbassinforfun reply :

Nice! I see a few in my future. Definetly an SX.

fishing user avatarjeb2 reply :

They told me mid to late September when I called them this afternoon. And the guy I talked to said the exterior finish was the same.

Sorry, yes, same as the current models. I was asking specifically about the Premier.

fishing user avatarflippin and pitchin reply :

Strange. My buddy is the tackle buyer for a local outlet and I asked him about the recent price drop. He states Abu is doing a " cosmetic " change to the Revos but even he has yet to see a photo released. He bought every SX and STX high speed he could get his hands on. He hopes to have an instore show promo for the STX for 134.99. They have been selling Premeiers for 209.99 as regular price for two years. It's getting interesting.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

See my dilemma now is do i hold off and buy the new gen 3's when they come out or do I buy up all these gen 2's for cheap. I have the black and red SX and love it I could go for a bunch more but these new ones hmmmmmm maybe get a few of each? If i got the old models it would give me a reason a few moths after release to bug the wife I need the newer ones decisions decisions......

No new "S" model Revo either...........IMHO that was the best one. Oh well, not like I am going to buy any. They have a big problem as far as I am concerned......They are not a Shimano.

fishing user avatarjj'sbassinforfun reply :

Yeah, I'm gonna run right out to buy an "S" reel. The ones that are actually a down grade but called an upgrade and charging more ta boot. Sounds like a bargin to me! :dazed-7:

From what I see Abu has at least tried to advance the line up, Not taken a step back!

fishing user avatarbassinCPA reply :

The new Gen 3 Revo's are expected to ship September 1, 2012.

This is listed in the description for each reel. By the the time THUT ships, I bet all retailers will have them.

Surprised to hear they haven't figured out a way to give it a more durable exterior finish. It doesn't effect functionality, but I could see where they might lose some potential sales because of it.

Yeah, that leaves me scratching my head some, too. If that is actually the case, they are apprently not listening really closely to what their customers are saying.

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

if you want a durable finish buy a pflueger patriarch.the titanium deposition is almost impossible to damage.

fishing user avatarjeb2 reply :

You're right, except they don't make the Premier eqivalent in that reel anymore, the XTLP. Pflueger/Pure Fishing discontinued it a year or so back.

fishing user avatarbman310 reply :

From Hooked up tackle's site,

Abu Garcia - Gen 3 Revo STX

Abu Garcia's new Generation 3 Revo STX is 30% lighter than the previous model, making it the lightest reel in it's class. The new Gen 3 Revo STX has been completely re-designed, and is made of a carbon frame, features new EVA knobs, a Carbon Matrix drag system, 10 stainless steel HPCR bearings plus 1 roller bearing, an infiniti brake system and 20lbs of drag. There is also a new 8.0:1 gear ratio model.

The new Gen 3 Revo's are expected to ship September 1, 2012.

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

by my calculations (assuming the size of the spools remain the same), the IPT of the 8.0:1 STX will be 34" per turn of the handle.

fishing user avatarRevozoomevinrude reply :

I thought the revos were fine the way they are. Companies always have to try and improve. Just like shimano when they went to the new style of curado and quit making a bulletproof reel that would last. The new ones are terrible compared the old style. I sold all my shimanos last year and switched to stx revos and couldnt be happier. Hope they dont change anything!

fishing user avatarquanjig reply :

Shimano lost me when they discontinued the 200B. Picked up a scorpion and it's nice, hope it holds up. I have too many friends that have had serious problems with the "E" line up. I'll stick with the 2nd gen revo SX! THAT is a sweet reel and with the price reduction, it's a no brainer!!

fishing user avatarjj'sbassinforfun reply :

Is it September yet?

i think just having the carbon sideplates will help the paint stick on better as well as resist little dings. at least i hope so...

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

8 ratio on that stx....vroooooom!

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

yup I just got the email from abu and am all ready entered in the give away for it it was a nice surprise i left for the gym with no new emails and came back to the new revo line up in my email

fishing user avatarPantera61 reply :

I just received a new 2013 Premier and STX to field test. Can't wait for this weekend ...

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

The word on the street is that the new Revo is going to the same brake system as the MGX. I'm leery of that alone. I wish they would have changed the spool bearing assembly, but it's minor overall. The new reels aren't likely to be released until Mid-September from all reports we've had at this point. Lastly, They're not changing the finish from what we're told.

I have a couple Winches and I love them, but for the weight.

fishing user avatarBamaBoy5 reply :

TW has them on their website and it says stock 6/22

fishing user avatarjj'sbassinforfun reply :

Good to hear they will be available before September. Just in time for my sons BD. :angel500:

Seems the gen2's have just about disapeared from most sites!

fishing user avatarKevinator1 reply :

Man, the new Revo S sure would look sweet on a Veritas rod.

fishing user avatarBamaBoy5 reply :

Yea or a duckett. I may have to get one for mine. I just wish there was different gear ratios other than a 6.4

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

Anyone find out the LPT on the 8.0 STX?

I think the TW site said 9/19 before they came in.

33" IPT for the 8.0 STX from the info here- http://www.abugarcia...rofile/revo-stx

fishing user avatarIzan reply :

I cant wait for the new Revo S. Great product, great color!

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

Just pre-ordered an next gen STX from an online retailer that's running a 15% off sale through Friday.

fishing user avatarhike4steel reply :

Sign says pre-order. I have seen pre-order a couple of places with deliver sometime early fall.

Nice advertisment in Bassmaster Mag. this month/last month? with a pull out booklet. Smaller, lighter, braking system changes. And slight price increases. stx $220.

fishing user avatarQuillback reply :

The online retailer whose name can' t be mentioned, has the STX listed for $199, with a %15 discount through Friday -so nets out at $169.00. Just have to wait until September to get it. Be nice to see an impartial review of the new STX vs. the new Shimano Curado as they are priced the same.

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

i have two 3G STXs preordered through THUT at 20 percent off $199. expected ship date is 9/1. i also have a daiwa lexa 100 preordered through "the online retailer whose name can't be mentioned" at 15 percent off with and expected ship date of 9/15. :fishing1:

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

They won best of show @ icast. They look so much gooder than last years in the specs dept. My pockets will. :cry4: soon

nice did you get to fondle them

didn't the MGX get best of show last year also?

Im not a company fanboy except for maybe Daiwa. (2 daiwas, 1 quantum, 1 okuma, 1 abu garcia). The new SX will definitely be my next purchase though. looks pretty sharp.

I'm liking the new S model the most on a Veritas that will be my first gen 3 reel combo then a SX on the new Vendetta 2 after I get the new Revo spinning reels

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

I asked someone at abu garcia why the new sx has one less bearing than the gen 2s, and they told me a more efficient gear system was the reason. It's funny that the stx has the same amount though. Hope abu didn't cheapen the sx to widen the gap between models in the revo lineup.

Bearing count is over rated. Quality bearings supporting the critical areas is much more important.

Coming from the man who fishes Shimano....Who I believe decreased quality and increased price.

Does that make Shimano the "Bigger Loser"? :poke:

I haven't checked the price on the MGX handle. But I bet its close and comes with the EVA grips already. I prefer the aluminum myself and have been getting Premier handles for $38 and change. Now I can opt for just the EVA grips. Im also in for at least one of the extended handles.

Like $40 overpriced for sure, thats only a $10-$15 part in the radio control car/truck realm.

I checked and two 108mm x 21mm x 2mm pieces for a vehicle, that acually look like a handle, were $4 ($2 each) add about 3-4 bucks each spindle hardware right at $12 add $3 for the offset process $15 total.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

It's still cheaper then jdm handles and same price as the hawg handles................
