With all the lips getting ripped around here, I figure we should have a place to share shots of our catches regularly. Took a cool pic of my catch of the day today so I'll start
She was pretty... And not a fan of Sesame Street apparently
Holy cow.. That frog got smoked. Someone was hungry!!
Piggy ate Kermy!
Had a great weekend. This one was the biggest though. Somewhere in the 4.5 lb range.
24" On the Spro BBZ-1 Jr. 6"
And a very confused, aggressive, and lost trout on a KVD 1.0...He had to have been washed down 10+miles and over a 12' dam during a flood about a month ago.
Yesterday...21"
Let's see some pictures! Gotta look at something while I'm stuck at work on this gorgeous day.

Oh yeah!
Great catching guys!!
Had a nice day out yesterday.
Hope everyone else has been keeping those lines tight
Finding & catching Summer time Smallmouth can be tough.
But yesterday, deep cranking was working right in the middle of the day.
Dodging the ski boats & jet skis just made it more interesting . .

Just under 6lbs
about 15 inches nailed the scum frog
Here is one from yesterday 7-19 saw a fish crib and tossed palm tree to it.

The moderate to heavy cover has been treating me well lately for sure and I am not upset about it.
Just a few from a little paddle last night
Best catch of the night tore my thumb up good bucking free while I was turning on my phone's camera and I did't get a pic... Just a great fight and some thumb rash which is still fine by me.
Love that pic above with the little mouse head looking up from the throat of the bass!
My biggest yesterday was a 5lb caught with a DT14.
They were choking the plum crazy Texas rigged rage craws dipped in clear JJs also...
Did some night-fishing last night. This was the biggest, around 4 lbs.

Im in disbelief that the first fish is a 5lber. Looks more like a 2.5... did you weigh it?
I know the pic is terrible. Holding a big fish out at arms length against an open background is the worst possible picture scenario. I did weigh the fish as I do with all my catches over 3 lbs and it was 5lb. The only point of reference I can give you is my hands are pretty decent size and his mouth is dwarfing them.On 7/28/2014 at 7:19 AM, Weld said:Im in disbelief that the first fish is a 5lber. For reference, here is another five pounder I caught yesterday with proof. The pic may be a little better but it still doesn't do the fish justice...
I could believe its a 5 pounder, just goes to show how much bigger/smaller fish can look in a certain camera angle, that 3.75 looks the same as the 5lber

I was in a hurry with him because as you can see the line is still in his mouth, he had choked my brush hog. With the bad angle and weird shadow , the pic turned out badly.

Yeah for night-fishing I use jigs, soft plastics and Jitterbugs. I've read that a big Colorado blade spinnerbait can be deadly for fishing after dark, but haven't tried it yet. Might have to do that soon. Night-fishing can be awesome. Dead quiet, no sweltering heat, water to yourself and a lot of BIG bass.

Same here. July has been one BAD month. That's why I changed it up and went after dark, and that was the ticket.

I keep my light off 99% of the time. The only time I turn it on is to re-tie or to land a fish.

At times the action can be almost non-stop. Like every cast something hits your bait. It got like that for an hour or so last night (or morning I guess). The fish seem way more aggressive after dark.

Both, but I think I've had more luck after 1ish. I feel like the fishing gets better as the night gets later. Like last night we didn't get anything the first hour or so, but then for an hour the bite was hot around 2:30-3:30.

Ok thanks for the info.. Now time to find a spot to go to... We lack the quantity of ponds that you have upstate
Does this count cause its all I got in 4 hours today
Ika over weeds it snapped at it and got hooked the weeds brought in weighed more than the fish
This was the biggest of today. Went 19" even and around 4 pounds. Got it on a 6" "bullfrog" senko.
This was last week, and it was slow. Nothing this week yet.
Got out this morning around 5. Man, it sure was the most perfect couple of hours of my week so far.
I must have landed a good 15 or so really nice fish in the couple hours I was there- also had some uberlunkers snap my 10lb SX1 like it wasn't even there, so next time I'm throwing that same bait on my 30lb braid to see what I can yank outta there.
Saw this little guy the other day while fishing for smallmouths in a small local river. I got within 15-20 feet from him. He never ran off he would just dunk his head under the water ever so often, Don't blame him it was extremely hot that day.

Never did see the mama around there was a big soybean field near by, she was probably in it somewhere. I slipped out of there so i wouldn't bother the fawn. What a joy to see tho.
Snuck out for a few casts whilst on a romantic B&B jaunt to the cape this weekend.
It was a fantastic idea. Nothing like getting rained on at 5am to make you appreciate some hawg rasslin'... And going back inside after a few hours to pass back out in some warm and dry luxe accommodations. Proper planning really is paramount to enjoying oneself fully

Caught these today with the frog. Went to a pond that I been to once when I was a noob, and that was a year ago. The first one scared the $#!7 out of me when it blew up the frog. The second one blew it up pretty good too on a different part of the pond, but not as hard as the first one . I was also trying to avoid a snapper that kept on going after the frog in the same spot. Tell you what, it was a little tough out there they weren't hitting much, and I lost a KVD 1.5 square bill in a tree.
This guy destroyed the frog, and looking at the guy behind it... needs to cut back on the twinkies
Caught these bad boys today, on the same lure.

Started fishing a few days ago and I've been throwing a Senko off a dock every afternoon. Been pulling up a small bass or two every day, but today I fished this one up - quite a bit bigger than the smaller fish I've been catching. No clue how much it weighs, any guesses from the pic?

Of course I did! I learned a very important thing the last time that came up- that science is only as real as you believe it is. Lead? Whatever. It's only real if I let it be. Caught these guys this weekend.
Took my gf's son out for a "dude day" while the girls were all back to school shopping. It was his first day fishing on a boat ever. He loved it! He wanted to stay even when it was totally getting dark and we were both starving. He did great too, his first cast was about a 20" pickerel, he's got a t-rig down pretty good and he can grip 'em by the lip. He even knows what bass thumb is now haha
Kid is a natural! (It's ok dude I make that face at pickerel too)
And his first bass
Tournament on Lake Champlain on Sunday.
1st place 15.6 lbs of fish. Missed lunker by .07 lbs.
My 2 biggest at 4.95 lbs and 4.5 lbs
Went after smallmouth on Monday. Nothing huge but a 3 lb 5 oz.
6.7 lbs on a DT14 in 14' of water.
Caught these today.
I'm gonna need a bigger boat, man... This is a blown steel leader that I switched to because of the heifer pickerel in apparent superbloom where I was fishing. I was walking a mouse through some open water patcehs and it got slurped by what would likely be my pb bass hard- POINK! the second the rod fully loaded and I set the hook the connector end exploded. I figured it must have been the knot or line sliced by a passing pickerel or a mis-strike but NOPE. Just a whole lot of frustration... I can't wait to go back and try to reclaim my mouse off that sunuvabish's lip!
Caught the Bowfin in the River in front of my house and the 2 Bass from the Lake down the Road this weekend. I love where I live.
Yesterday we went out to some of the local ponds we haven't been to before, and see what they were carrying... According to the picture not much, but we had a good time.

I absolutely love that! How old is he? I've been bringing my gf's 8yo son out fishing for bass and he has become obsessed after he landed a big pickerel on his first ever cast from a boat and I showed him how to hold a bass by the lip. It's awesome to see them anxious for the next tip or trick in hopes that he can have a "bass thumb" day haha. For a young boy's attention span to be riveted for that long, you know they're into it!
But the endless stream of infinitely more complex questions... That takes a little bit of getting used to!
He'll be four in November. I already taught him to lip, one of the first things I taught him in fishing besides casting. I think he's ready for Siebert jigs, he started copying all of my jig cadences with his little Spiderman rod.
Yeah, he's hooked. He wants to go fishing everyday.
Caught this guy yesterday evening at a new to me pond in like 15mns of getting there. My Jig hand has been on fire lately, but I'm only catching dinks, except for that 2lbr. Seems like these man made ponds don't have good size bass.
Time to get a boat, and chase the Hawgz.

A great way to spend my Birthday morning, out on the water fishing... Not the biggest bass but big smiles.
5.4 lbs on the left and 6.5 lbs on the right. Went fishing with a buddy on Labor Day and had the best day of fishing to date. I have had a rough go of it lately on the water, and I almost stayed home instead of fishing. Pulled up to a shell bed at daylight and proceeded to rip the lips off of A LOT of good fish. We had a 30 lb bag on Pickwick Lake, where my biggest bag had been 21 lbs. We left the spot as it is one of my buddys tournament spots, and found a huge school of 1.5 to 2 lbers and caught around 40 of them on a drop shot. It was an amazing day and although neither of those are my personal best fish, it was my personal best bag! This is why I fish, the pure enjoyment of catching these beautiful fish and then releasing them for a long healthy life!
Edit: BTW, the XShip on the Chronarch CI4+ is something else, it feels like magic in your hands when landing a big fish!

Thanks guys, I'm very lucky to have a pretty ideal pond only a few minutes for my house- completely surrounded by heavy weeds with a couple separate deep sections in the middle and it holds some hogs for sure. It's a fantastic place to go if I'm tight on time, and a great place to work on heavy cover presentations too.
I'd say about half of my fishing goes on there, it's just so easy, quick and there's so many fish. I have a bunch of ponds and lakes I like to go to nearby but they aren't as cool or as quiet as my go-to spot. That's mah honey hole!!
yeah that's a frogger's paradise from the pics.... you can't beat a convenient spot man. i found one nearby the house my wife and i recently bought (4 minutes away) and have been able to get some fishing in there when time was tight. i just wish i could find a nice spot close to the house that looks like yours to dip the kayak in....

Went a little farther to my #2 fave spot this morning for some more exploration.
Did catch a nice one, but no pic. Grabbed the leader to lip the fish, and some how spit the hook... on a dredge jig no less. I thought they couldn't come off that hook... Leader touch Ill call that a catch.

Here a few long distance catches 100'+ in 20' of water. Ill toss out wacky senko let it sit while fishing with another set-up. No action at all senko will catch'em. My little brother caught his PB the other day on a strike king squarebill. Didn't have a scale along that day, how big do you guys think it is?
It was so heavy he dropped it that's why it's covered in gravel lol.

Utah road trip this summer. Desert bass lol. The first pic was interesting I was swimming in the lake (it was 110 degrees out) and I saw him in some brush so I got out, cast a Yamamoto d-shad to him and caught him. He looks a little skinny.

The fish in that pond are very stressed, the water there is extremely low. It is the lowest it has been in 50 years. The odd color patterns, the pinkish areas, are open sores. The fish in that pond have been extremely skinny and sickly. We need rain there in the worst of way. This year I have caught a lot of fish with open sores like that in that particular pond. Once the water level comes up and the water cools most of the sick fish will heal and put on some weight. Even though they are stressed and sick they can still be caught. They have to eat.
The fish up north are supposed to be small!
Haha just kidding man nice fish mainebass!

Managed to get a few on buzzbaits this weekend, despite some nasty wind here in PA.
Caught this one and only at a new to us lake on Friday. A good one for a slow couple of hours.
awesome!
Nice fish boostr! It was perfect weather for fishing yesterday here in Jersey. wish it could be like that every day and then go from Oct right back to spring.lol
caught this today on a watermelon red tiny fluke
That's one heck of a hawg !
Well done jitterbug

Kid stoke is the best. For us it's probably just another fish but for them it might as well be a marlin or Biwa record. I love watching them absorb tips & knowledge and use it to catch something... The light goes on and they pretty much explode with joy. Nothing like it! This kid already wants to open a tackle shop- could he be the youngest bait monkey victim ever?
Cheers to everybody still out there getting after it. I'm *this* close to packing away the rods and bustin' out the skis I'm sure I have a few days left in me, but they're becoming fewer & farther between.

I'm gonna have to try that sometime. We usually go to my cousin's in Belmar and fish for fluke in the bay, or Ill drive to Brick from thier house and do some bass fishing.
My buddy caught this 7lb 9oz on a red eye Shad yesterday afternoon
Caught these yesterday all on a Keitech 1/16 MONO jig with Jackall 4.8in flick shake and Zoom Finesse worms.

I caught a bunch of dinks and 6 or 7 in the 1 to 2 lb range but I don't take pics of those. They are really killing the wacky rig. That keitech jig is pretty much done for, you can see the skirt is loose on that 3rd fish.

Don't look so excited! Haha nice fish man, those are some gorgeous smallies!!
This is all I caught this weekend, it was a decent size pickeral, but no bass bites. Was a bad windy day.
Good fight though. They hit like a freight train.
Haven't posted pics in a while so I have to drop a few... Tons of pickerel but a few Larrys too.
Lots of good pics but the wind has been terrible around here. I hope we get we get some pics tomorrow.
Bad windy day got only 1 bite all day (6 hours) thank goodness it was this 4.8 lber it made the a** beating I took that day worth it.
Glad I could sneak in my first fish on a Live Target before the bass completely disappeared from the shallows for the year. I'm a Booyah man but I am loving the Live Targets too now.
Haven't been out in a while but snuck out and nabbed this lil fattie the other day
Not sure if I'll get out again though, it's getting to be that time of year!
The brunt of the polar blast hit us today in Missisisippi with 38 degree air temps and 15mph winds at the community college campus pond. People left and right were looking at me like I was insane for fishing in this weather (I moved to Mississippi from the Blue Ridge Mountains, this weather is merely "chilly"). I was excited to take today as an opportunity to experience cold front fishing, and to get a feel for fishing in some colder-weather gear compared to what I usually get to wear. Things I discovered: different, more task-appropriate gloves on each hand can make all the world of difference in handling and to zip up my left outer jacket pocket so it doesn't catch on the butt of my rod, among other things.
Picked up two of these guys working a Rapala Rippin' Rap 06 (1/2oz and some uncomfortably small hooks) in Green Craw (looks an awful lot like a bluegill to me) as slow as I could on the deep end toward the dam without getting hung up on the weedy bottom. I'm told it's like a max of about 7-8 feet deep on that end.
Both strikes honestly were almost undetectable, even running straight braid. The first one did fight pretty hard given the weather conditions, but with the second, I estimate that I had reeled it maybe about 30 feet before thinking "man, this ball of weeds I picked up is pretty darn heavy" and finally got around to making sure the hooks were set well. I still actually wasn't 100% sure I had a fish on until it got within sight about 8 feet from the bank when it finally woke up, turned and took about 10 feet of drag before just giving up.
You guys seem to love Rage Craws....might have to pick me up a package.
Got some smallmouth and largemouth this weekend at lake lopez fishing out of my friends boat. Nothing huge, a couple 2.5 lb smallmouth and some dink largemouth. Caught most of them deep cranking.
My brother got a treble hook in his finger past the barb while landing a smallie. We had to rip it out with pliers (ouch). Here's his best smallmouth of the day (with my friend holding it for him lol).
Got some of these too...
Might as well fire this baby back up with my first notable couple fish of 2015.
Lilies are on their way too... It won't be long before the frogs roam!
Posted this in the NE section but I'll put it here as well.
Good one from earlier today.
The notables from the past few days..
Caught these two last week, the first was 5.86 on a red Santone Chatterbait.
The second went 4.18 on the Black Dog ShellCracker G2, nothing doing when I was steadily retrieving it so I started twitching it and letting it float up for 1-2 seconds. On the second cast when I started doing that the fish swiped at it and missed it so I jerked the rod and he hit it again.
Well, here are my first unotable fish of the year...
This fatty crushed my buzz bait on Saturday. Man, that buzz bait is hard to put down.

The fish were-13 rainbow trout 12 of them cuaght on bass lures,5 Lmb's,2 smallies.
One of the trout that I fought in on 6lb test weighed 9lbs(26in.) on a wacky rigged senko! That thing was a hog of a trout! The other fish were cuaght on Drop shots, jerkbaits, wacky rig, inline spinners, tubes etc/
Didn't get pics of all of them but here are the ones I did get pics of:

Nice fish, what did you catch it on?
A couple little post spawners nothin huge-
Didn't catch any significant size, but did catch a few. These were all males, aggressive nest guarders. There were three fat females around the 5lb + sitting on nests next to each other waiting for their hot date. One of them even grabbed a turtle passing thru the nest, and escorted it out. Tried to catch one of them by chunking a jig and craw and reeling it into the nest, then let it sit there and wait for one of them to move it out of the nest. Three times one of them did, and three times I set the hook with her opening her yap and spitting the bait out. They eventually they got wise of me, and just ignored everything.... Frustrating, oh well at least I didn't get skunked.

First outing of the season: today I stopped at a little river bayou on my way home from work to toss a few baits from shore for about 20min. Was not really expecting to catch anything, but ended up with this chunky 4lb-er as my first fish of the year. It took a little 4" pumpkinseed power worm on a finesse head.
Not the most most recent as I got this one a couple of trips ago but definitely the most memorable of the year for me so far.
Cool windy and rainy.
Broke out the Keitech Swing Impact Fat 3.8". Somehow 2 nice ones didnt quite hook up very well and threw the lure Managed a few though and as a bonus a TOOTHY CRITTER nailed an IKA.

I wished lol. It had a 6lber head but only hit 4.02lbs. It was all spawned out. Using a white bladed jig and threw kinda offset to a last post on a boat dock and when I got near the post I gave it a twitch, it hit it 3 different times on the way to the boat then inhaled it finally all in the same cast.

best of the year for me so far. Going out this morning and hope to top it.
Another of hte same fish. Didnt weigh it.
My first smallmouth, so my PB, on a bitsy tube. 1.91lbs.
Did a town pond trout derby with my stepson today and we both hated it haha... That shoulder to shoulder shore grind is brutal. Left and went to a really cool spillway spot nearby and caught a bunch in relative solitude. Total save.
Lol... I don't know what's more slippery, the rocks or the trout. Spawn needs to end already.

Priceless expression! And looks like a nice sized trout to boot.

you one of my scorpion 1001xt's mounted up on a my new megabass super destroyer phase3, i'm loving the setup. i wanted a nice compact jig/frogin rod , this little stick has some serious power!
Went out today on a friends boat and caught a few smallmouth. I also happen to hook the biggest rudd I've seen yet.
Chunky one from early today..
4lbs 11oz first flip of the day!
Sunday morning for two and half hours at my favorite small lake -- 30 min from home, a hair under 50 acres, about 10-12 foot visibility, mostly undeveloped except for a county park and two small houses with docks at one end...and a no motors restriction. On weekdays in the summer I might be the only one there all morning, not counting herons, otters, snapping turtles, geese.
Nothing spectacular, but well worth the brief escape -- several fish about 11"-13" with the biggest coming at 16", about 2.5lb on a t-rigged PowerBait Chigger Craw about 10 feet down near a small point (picture not great; bad perspective, but you get the idea).
2 of the better fish from the weekend.
Rapala Skitterwalk
Senko
Some of my latest bass, mostly on topwater.
I'll have to do them in two parts .
This one was my bro's first senko bass:
Since love pictures so much, I will join in the fun as well. This was my best over the weekend (Fished 2 hours)
19"
The best from this past weekend. Top fish was from a reservoir in Maryland and the bottom fish was from the Tidal Potomac River.
Here my best from today. Hit right at noon weighed in at 3.52# 18".
Was on my SC Legend Elite 7'6" M/F, Supreme XT30 and 8# nanofil green a good 80' out.
Im venturing out from the mighty senko and trying the MegaStrike MegaStick still rigged wacky. Ive only used one for over 15 bass so far, its been holding up with very little wear and still going.
Oh ya!
Great color for jig. I like chompers Missouri craw.

That's a St. Croix Avid 6'3" MXF spinning rod paired up with a Quantum Smoke SL25 with 8# flourocarbon.....I LOVE that rod......

This was the only Hawg I caught this past Saturday.... I know sad. Caught on a Siebert's Sunfish swim jig with a green pumpkin Rage Tail Menace. Did have a few short strikes, and hooked a Pickeral luckily that came off by it self at the bank.
Some footballs from a couple weeks ago, all weighed on a good scale.
14.25'' 2.24 lbs
Would have been barely a keeper at 14'' but weighed that much...
3.00lbs
4.3lbs
Fat fish.
I am stuck at 18.5"....it's like one after another.
A few from the last week or so.
17.5''
17.5''
A few smallies showed up.
I even got a handful of browns saturday morning.
Just cuaght this carp 30mins ago:
The first one was on a guided trip on Fork caught on a 10XD.
The other ones are my first jig fish using a Sieberts/Vile Craw throwing around boat docks.
And yes I usually have that many rods on the deck of the bot because I don't know what I'm doing lol.

Shameful amount of non resourcefulness... Have i ever shared my fishing arsenal... Which includes: one combo, a backback of baits, a scale, and yet i catch 8# bass, and have better days than most on this fourum! Why would you spend hundreds of dollars for all these combos, when you can use one for everything(and never break damage or mess up) and take 1 minute to tie on a bait?

Have you ever fished a rod built and outfitted specifically for a certain technique? If you had then your comment would not exist.
It makes all the difference for the angler in terms of efficiency and fluidity. Especially in tournaments. Would you rather have to bite off your bait and tie a new one on each time you wanted to change? Maybe, but in a tournament that 30-200 seconds could be time spent fishing because you already have a rod tied with that bait and special reel.

Youthful humor.
I'd rather have designated set ups for certain baits I plan on fishing. It beats throwing a jig on a medium powered rod or a squarebill on a heavy. I don't spend the time having to tie baits when I want to switch either. It makes sense to me.

1 minute to tie on a bait x 6 baits = 6 minutes, during which time you could catch another 8# fish.
Ya, I agree with all of you in your senarios, but i'm fishing from the bank, and I try to go to parts around a river or lake that very few have gone to(Heavy brush, thorns, just annoying crap) and can't really cary more than one maybe two rods along with my back pack. But if I was in a boat, i would probably have 4-6 combos. I would definatly prefer Ducket rods with Abu Reels though, which I think Slefler has all Ducket rods too.
I'm actually thinking about getting a new 1) Duckett MIcro Guide 7'2(maybe a 7'6) Medium Heavy Fast Casting Rod with an Abu Garcia Revo Winch for all around use it for everything. or 2) a Duckett Goast 7'3 Heavy Fast Casting Rod with and Abu C4 or a Shimano Cardiff for Swimbait, Punching, A-Rig(for the river), and frogs. But like i said the only reason i only use one combo is that i can realisticly only cary "1".

By the way, are all your combos(on deck) Ghost's? Or Micro Guides
Those are Ghosts. All of my set ups are with Ghosts except for my big bait rod which is a St Croix Mojo. I'd like to try a Micro Magic but I just can't swing another setup just yet.

4lb 02oz, 19 & 1/2''
On May 21, 2015 I found a bed and tossed a fluke onto it and caught a 4lb 02oz Smallmouth Bass (best so far this year). I released the fish healthy and saw it return to the bed. I also saw it on the bed a few days later. Then came a busy weekend and when I returned to the location of the bed the following week I could see the bed but there was no sign of the fish - I was a little worried someone else might have caught the fish and didn't release it. Almost every day I've fished after that I have kept an eye on the bed but there was no sign of the 4 pounder. Later I could see bluegills and sucker fish feeding around it and things didn't look good. Without the bed being tended it slowly began to fade away and was no longer visible. I feared the worst, but kept fishing around the area on almost every trip for the hopes of proving myself wrong...
June 04, 2015
Today I was fishing around there and had a small bite next to the dock near where the bed use to be. I didn't think much of it and decided to fish the other side of the dock. I made a cast in about 3ft of water near the dock and suddenly my line got tight and heavy... Set The Hook and BOOM! Hooked into a good fish! As I was fighting it near the boat I knew it was the 4 pounder I had hooked before. It jumped, darted around quickly doing figure 8's, swam under the boat and was pulling hard trying to dive for deeper water. With the rod in one hand I reached for the camera hoping to record a video of the action but made a critical mistake. The combo that I happened to hook her on was my oldest spinning reel which just so happens to have an issue with the drag locking up if I don't reset it every trip. In a split second she torpedoed straight for the bottom and "SNAP!" like the sound of a .22 round going off my line broke because the drag was locked up... I had a knot in my stomach after that.
I then settled down and tied on another fluke and decided to investigate the area. What I found was where I made the cast was right above a new bed the fish had made, and I actually saw the fish return to it after it had broke my line. (A little back story, last week and this week were suppose to be what I believed would be the spawn... but we've had some wack weather lately with thunderstorms almost every evening as well as a few days of heavy rain. The water has been hovering around the 65F-68F mark for the past 2-3 weeks and hasn't managed to get up to 70F yet.) I'm curious whats up with the new bed ~30ft away from the old location and with the new bed I'm guessing this confirms the 4 pounder is male? It seems to be the one creating the beds, as well as it's always alone on the bed.
Anyway I couldn't get the fish to commit to the 2nd fluke, and the boat was beginning to spook it off the bed when I got too close. I decided I would continue to fish and come back to it if I had time. So after a few hours of catching various other fish when the bite finally died off I decided to try again on my way back before I head home as it was starting to get dark. I tried to be as stealthy as I could and made some long casts with the fluke to try and coax another bite. 1st cast - nothing but it landed a ways off from the bed. I got a little closer and made my 2nd cast right where the bed should be, let it hit the bottom and twitched it a few times - and nothing... Made my 3rd cast which landed a little further in, let it hit the bottom and twitched it a few more times... that's when suddenly my line got tight and I Set The Hook!...
4lb 00oz, 19 & 1/2''
Same length as before 19 & 1/2'' but this time only weighed in at 4lb 00oz even. Snapped a few pictures and then released.

Thanks man, I didn't build one into it because it has to do a lot of different stuff. It does have a receiver for a cooler mount in the floor though so one could do a cooler livewell very easily.
Took my kayak to a pond this afternoon, caught this skinny girl on a half ounce flipping jig with a pit boss for a trailer. Measured 20" long and only weighed 3.74lbs. An exciting fish nonetheless!

Sounds like a potential project! haha. Would love a solid john boat. Currently we're fishing out of a Sea Eagle inflatable but haven't taken it out much because we're having issues with our Minnkota trolling motor.

I was having a pretty uneventful few hours of fishing after work yesterday and I decided to make one last cast, thinking I would go home skunked. I literally said to myself, "Ok, one more cast and that's it", and then this fish came out of nowhere.
Totally not a flattering picture of me, but there's a fish in the photo!
Fishing the lake right by my house this morning with a buddy from work who has been doing well out there. I hate the lake, 5 minutes from the house and I fish it 2 or 3 times a year. Did surprisingly well this morning, mainly on topwater and baby brush hog. Got to one little cut he said a local told him holds big fish. I'd barely gotten "Weird, I never catch anything here", out of my mouth when my bladed jig went weightless. Typical big fish bite on a bladed jig, turned into a very not typical fish for that lake. 4 pounds on the nose and my PB for the lake.
Here is my donation from this past weekend:
Caught this guy Twice on 2 separate days:
Day 2
Day 1
Ouch, and you think jalapenos burn the next day...
And these guys couldn't resist a Siebert's Jig either...

Yep, she was pretty sunk in. Still encouraging to catch a fish like that out of a lake that usually kicks my butt though.
Line broke 6 inches from the lure as soon as I laid hands on her...
Sorry for not turning my light off...

What kind are those blue rods? Are those the Ethos you talk about a lot?
Had an okay week this past few days...mix of Bronze and Green.......no giants still...this year has been a weird one, that's for sure.....Here's a few...most caught on plastics on or near the bottom.....
Last day of the beard...but growing it back as of now...lol
Freshly shaven for my Bday last Sunday....
Birthday Rock Bass!!
I volunteered to assist at a fishing outing for the disabled last Saturday...The look on everyones faces was priceless when they caught fish....that day was my catch of the year so far in 2015
Scouting missions to two new lakes for a few hours each this week. The first has a reputation as one of the few close to me that gives up bass 4lb and higher with regularity. Had an 18"+ wiggle out of the kayak before I could get a pic, and the only other one I snapped was of this skinny 16"-er who gobbled a trick worm. Caught a couple more below keeper size. I'll be back to that lake.
The other lake I knew almost nothing about. Turned out to be a massive dink factory. Absolutely loaded with bass, and lost track of how many I caught, but nothing over 12".

Yes, the two light blue ones are Ethos rods. There's 7 more in the rod locker. The darker blue rods are St.Croix LTBs. There's 5 more of those in the rod locker.
Biggest of the year so far.

Some Quabbin Smallies from May and June:
This rainbow ate a 4" Slim Senko.
This bass' breakfast was a Duo Realis Pencil 110.
I take my friend Eric to Quabbin every year for his birthday. He fishes largemouth more often than smallmouth and wanted to see if he could interest a smallie on a sizable swimbait.

Sadly, No... I don't have a good enough boat to make it that far and back as it would take up too much time. I usually fish during the week after I get off work, and with the long days we have now I usually fish from ~4:00pm - ~9:00pm. I would love to fish all the chain lakes but it's just not in the deck of cards right now. I have in years past with friends and loved it. I try to maximize my fishing time so I'm a bit limited to the main lake area, but I make due and enjoy the challenge.

It's late so I have to make this short, here is a "teaser" for my report coming probably this weekend. Nice day to not be at work. Doesn't hurt when you can track down a worthy bucketface either!
Man I love froggin'.
Also threw my flash carp slide swimmer for the first time today and landed some meat with it which was a lot of fun.
One Fish Anna was surprisingly nice to me today. I went with the intent of striper fishing but that didn't pan out too well, we only landed four with one being a keeper @ 21"...Normally One Fish Anna lives up to her name this time of year when I try to bass fish, but today I actually got on a decent bite and caught about a dozen. Most were right around 12" but that is way better than I have ever done this time of year (from a kayak).
My big fish of the day that ate a 3/8oz football jig that I was skipping under docks and dragging back out very slowly. 18"
My little brother got this 20"er on a 6XD crankbait while trolling for stripers.

It's really difficult to catch more bass than pike on that lake. I have lost so many nice lucky craft and other pricey lures in Idaho. Pike seem to have a taste for high quality Japanese hard baits.

I have found with experience and knowledge of productive locations, so far this year I have caught way more bass than pike. I feel I have developed almost a 6th sense on knowing when I'm fishing around bass or pike. When I hooked that 6lb pike on the 10XD, I knew I had a high probability of catching a pike if anything, and same thing goes for the bass I caught. Not saying you won't get the occasional surprise once in a while.

That is great, Quabbin is my favorite place to fish. My pics from yesterday are from Quabbin! I usually stick to the pond side but I never miss an opportunity to head up there for a day. What a wonderful place!
Thank you Mr. Yamamoto
Went out yesterday and thought it was going to be some easy fishing, but I was wrong. Went out and pulled out a few nice fish. Eventually I began to figure them out and started to put some bigger fish in my kayak. This was the biggest fish of the day coming in at a weight of 3.4 lb.

Fairly slow day today. Water was way up and pretty muddy. Bass were chasing bait fish on top all over the lake, but I only managed a few on top water, a Rapala Skitterwalk to be exact. Hit the shorelines after chasing the fish on top and managed a few more on jigs, senkos and T-rigged craws. Nothing of any real size, but I did get this guy right at the end. Got him on a 3/8 oz Siebert brush jig in black & blue with a baby Rage craw trailer.
Only smallie and also the big fish of the day at 16''.
That water is ORANGE
[ June 23, 2015 ]
I fished every day last week (except the weekend) and going into this week I was starting to lose my enthusiasm to head out and fish as I normally skip a day or two so I don't get burnt out. However two things played a roll to continue... the fishing was getting really good, and a personal goal was approaching.
After viewing my 2014 fishing log, I decided to create a small project for my 2015 fishing log which was to make ~9 different "Day Icons" so when browsing the folders of my 2015 log I can get an idea how each day went. The icons first show if the day was either a fishing day or a technical day (no fishing). If it was a fishing day then the icon is one of the following... 1) Bass Success, 2) Bass Zeroed, 3) Pike Only Success, 4) Non-Target Species Only Success. Also there are versions if it was a "Mixed Day" as well, like if I was only able to spend part of the time fishing. - Because of this project I could see I had a bit of a streak going on Bass Success and decided to change my fishing attitude more toward being consistent and catching at least one bass each day I fish to keep the streak going. This changed me to fish more the way I needed to instead of the way I wanted to. This seemed to work well as if I catch a bass today... I will have caught at least one bass for the past 30 days that I have fished.
The water temperature is now in the low 70's and climbing with 12ft+ water clarity, the bass have already spawned, and I have seen lots of bass fry around different areas of the lake. It's now late June, and we are headed into July (The Mid Summer Month) and with temperatures in the high 90's potentially 100's, it's entering those hot bluebird dog days of summer. I have already tried deep cranking which has worked for pike, but bass seem to want something like a finesse soft plastic, or a topwater bait. When I first arrived at the marina I was tossing a Kalin's Lunker Grub on a 1/8th oz Jighead. I had a school of small little Smallmouth follow the bait in and I saw a slightly larger fish grab it so I set the hook...
Boom! 30 Days consistent completed! - Also with a welcome surprise as it was a Largemouth Bass which I have caught very few of this year. He came in at 9'', 4oz. Now as far as the goal of being consistent is concerned, any size counts so long as it was caught in the mouth. (One step at a time, set small goals and work up to larger ones, and be realistic so you don't set yourself up for failure).
As I kept fishing I found that the grub wasn't producing all that well, so I decided to change to a Gitzit Tube with a 1/8th oz Jighead inside it... this would become a Critical bait (color included) for the coming days...
Shortly after fishing the tube I hooked into a nice fish that turned out to be a 22'', 2lb 04oz Pike. Luckily I hooked him in the side of the mouth somehow and managed to land him as normally hooking a pike with soft plastics on monofilament line does not end well.
As I continued to fish the tube I started hooking into some small bass <10'', but finally managed to land one that was 11'', 9oz.
This was about the time I knew I needed to head out in the boat to increase my chances of catching something of size, so I loaded everything up and headed out just after 6:00pm...
Pulled up to the first dock I decided to fish - tossed the tube next to it and seconds later I lost contact with my bait. I reeled down and set the hook on a beautiful fish that equalled the weight of the pike I caught earlier, and tipped the scale in the basses favor. (17'', 2lb 04oz)
This one's for you BigSkyBasser
Hooked a few more small bass, then a nice 1lb'er... (All on the tube).
Three more small ones and then another nice one (15 & 1/4'', 1lb 10oz).
Caught three more under a pound around ~9:00pm, last one on a Heddon Super Spook Jr. (Bleeding Shad) as the sun was beginning to set and it was getting late.
Fished my way down to the last dock I planned to hit before I head back home (it was a good stopping point). I noticed a ton of little white moths or something flying all around the surface of the water and figured topwater would be productive but only managed to get a few small surface strikes on the Spook Jr. I decided to switched back to the Tube and tossed it out between the last dock and a sunken log. The line got tight and I set the hook on a good fish... it was swimming down (digging), pulling a little drag, fighting hard and doing figure 8's. Eventually I boat flipped it, and it turned out to be a nice 15", 1lb 06oz Smallmouth.
It was a great fish to end the day on, as it was now past ~9:30pm and time to head back home.

Wolfy I love the diary entry style posts. Do you keep a fishing log?
Also what does that sign say at the end? Too blurry to see.

Thanks,
Yes I mentioned in the post I'm creating a fishing log for 2015. The information is recorded by pictures, audio, and video.
I know the picture is blurry, I did it on purpose. You will have to wait for the June 26th report to see what it is...

Well sometimes the man upstairs sends you a big one. This fish was completely dumb luck, my friend and I were trolling Shad raps out of a paddle boat on a 20-30 acre neighborhood lake having fun catching dinks when this girl bit. We fish this place hard every year and usually catch a couple big ones, there aren't many though. Our saying is "if it ain't 12" it's over 20". This one was 23" with a girth of 16.5", fish calculator says 8.5 but I'm thinking she was mid to high 7s
That's three citations in four weeks!

Someone's on a roll!!!
Hide and seek under the pads with the devil('s spear). 3-2
This weeks fish.......we had a slow week or so for this time of the year.......weather in New jersey overnight has been anywhere berween 58-64 degrees...there is no topwater bite and little weedbeds still as of yet....Any other year it's usually on in early May....hoping things change soon as a 6-9 fish day is tough after putting alot of time on the water......thanks for looking fellas....
Did an event in New york City with Mike Iaconelli and a few others last weekend......It was to promote Casting for Kids, an event aimed at getting kids from NYC who rarely get the opportunity many of us suburban bassers get.....Had a lot of fun that day and i made bassmaster.com online page
Went out a bunch of times after then and here's the roundup of best fish of the week
My buddy w/ a nice one
Went out for a night trip and got a decent chunk on a senko
Me and my buddy Dan placed 3rd in our first tournament of the season...that's always a good feeling to cash a check
finally finished off a long weekend Monday morning with a few decent ones
And of course after all that fishing, i needed a quick power nap so took one while on the water...lol
First fish on a Spybait!
Caught a nice 19", 3.75 lb large mouth right off my dock this evening (first pic). So far in the last couple weeks I have a 14", 17", 18.5" (second pic) and this 19", all with crawlers. Oh, first post as well!

[ June 24, 2015 ]
Since the previous day turned out to be great for fishing, and today had more cloud cover and looked more conducive for fishing, I decided to head out again after I got off work...
When I arrived at the lake I noticed the wind had picked up a bit, but soon would slowly fade away as the day progressed.
I've been wanted to try out the new swimbait I recently picked up, so I tied it on and started looking for a big bite.
I found the bait had a very slow sink to it, and could be used like a wake bait if you retrieve the bait at a medium speed shortly after it hits the water. It slow sinks about 1 foot per 10 seconds, making it a good bait to fish slowly over submerged weeds or other types of cover. I liked how if you give it a good twitch on slack line it will do like a 360 as it slowly sinks which looks really good. Sadly I didn't get any bites with it today... however I did see lots of small bass follow the bait. This could be a great bait when looking for a big bite in cold water conditions as you can fish it very slowly (only time will tell).
I fished the bait for over an hour and with no bites (I'm sure the size of the bait was the problem for the location I was fishing), so I pulled out the trusty tube bait and moments later I hooked into my first bass of the day. (8 & 1/4", 03oz)
By this time I had spent more than enough time fishing around the marina as it was now past 5:00pm. Now It was time to load up the boat and head out in search of some larger sized fish.
Continued...
[ Continued - June 24, 2015 ]
Using the tube, it didn't take long before I hooked into the first sizable fish. (16 & 1/2", 1lb 12oz)
What was interesting about this fish was on it's neck was a circular soar about the size of a quarter, and from past research - the only thing I believe it could be is a bite mark from a Lamprey Eel which I am completely unaware if they are in Lake CDA as I have never encountered something like this before.
Anyway, the tube has been working so well for me I decided to rig up another combo with another color to test how well it worked, and to see if I could pick up any additional fish.
The third fish came on the Smoke color. (12 & 1/2", 11oz)
Fourth fish also came on the Smoke color (after making multiple casts with White first). (10" 08oz)
Same thing with the 5th fish... (7 & 1/4", 02oz)
and the 6th fish... (12", 10oz)
7th Fish? You guessed it... Smoke. (11 & 1/2", 12oz)
When I removed the tube from the 7th fish, I noticed it had something down it's throat...
Well I guess that explains why the tube has been working so well... I will need to get some in that red color someday.
When the 8th fish came on the Smoke color tube, I just gave up on White. I don't think I even got a single bite with it... (11", 10oz)
By this time It was getting late (after 8:00pm), and only had a few docks left to fish before I decide to head home.
Right at 9:00pm, I made the last cast with the Smoke Tube near the last dock, and hooked into a good one which turned out to be a real chunk of a fish. (13", 1lb 01oz)
Yet another nice fish to end the day on... as now it was past 9:00pm and time to head home.
Enjoy,
WolfyBrandon

This morning is the two year anniversary of my current PB (the fish in my profile). Not sure of the size, but it was around 5lb. The scale I used was an old junky spring scale that overestimates weight a little bit, and it read about 5 1/3 pounds. So I just call it "about 5" and I figure my next confirmed 5er is a new pb. The length was "about 20", but I didn't get a confident measure of that, either.
So, this morning I returned to the same lake, armed with a shiny new -- and confirmed accurate-- Rapala digital scale in search of a....
....well, sorry, no new pb happened today, but a few decent fish, anyway.
The first of the morning, 2 pounds, 4oz on a mojo-rigged junebug baby brush hog:
Second fish, about 10 minutes later 1 pound 12oz on a texas-rigged junebug Mag II worm:
Next cast, same worm, same spot, came the biggest of the day: 3 pounds 7oz:
An hour and three dinks later, another 2lb-er on t-rigged rage craw (blue craw), 2lb 6oz:
This "having an accurate scale" stuff is kind of neat!

Caught this girl on a green pumpkin candy havoc flat dawg.
Nothing big. This was from this past Friday at a reservoir where I have horrible bank fishing luck, but I'm starting to love it for yak fishing. I lost 4 fish at the yak, including a 3lbr maybe. Lipped 3, but only took pics of 2 cause the 3rd one got lose from my grip.
For this guy I flipped a jig over a branch sticking out of the water, and as I went to pull the jig up and over the branch he actually broke the surface to take it... scared the crap out of me. The line got snagged on said branch, and he was just hanging there. Luckily my buddy gave me a hand and untangld him.
4 pounds flat, caught in a farm pond, which I only thought contained dinks. This fish was so satisfying due to the fact that I broke her off Sunday and was really bothered by it. I was determined to "re-catch" her. I can sleep easy now...LOL.
Got one of the biggest fish I've ever caught from one of the local lakes that I fish a lot. Ripping her out of the water willows was a good time too

That thing is a Football! Nice catch!
Yeah it was funny I pitched it up by a bush that was over hanging the water and she hit it right as it hit the water and I set the hook but it really didn't feel that big, I about fell over when I got it closer and saw it swirl. I really want to know what it weighed, I could nearly fit my fist in its mouth!

Muddy water put a dampner on the bass fishing in my area but is just starting to get better.
My buddy got a good one this morning on the Spro Rat in Morning Dawn, 4lb 13oz.
I had just caught a solid keeper and hadn't turned the camera back on unfortunately so I only got the end of the fight after I popped the camera off my windshield and held it while I lipped his fish.
Caught my largest of the year last Thursday evening on a 1.5" Bill Lewis Trap! Weighed at 5lbs 7oz. and just under 22".

Just looks like a good ole largemouth bass to me! Nice catch
Did a little river bassin' today from the kayak, plenty of bass, green ones and brown ones. Caught fish on: 6" Bullshad, Senko, T-rigged trick worm, t-rigged speed craw, war eagle spinnerbait, KVD 1.0, X-Rap, and a 1/4oz spro bucktail. They were very hungry so I just started experimenting with different baits.
This fish ate a spinnerbait that I was bringing through a laydown, she tried to go back in and was rubbing my line on a log, I was so involved in the fight that I didn't realize what I was doing and rolled my kayak over! BUT I GOT THE FISH. Also recovered everything that fell out of the kayak. She was 19" long and spit up a 7" gizzard shad. People still wonder why I throw a bull shad...
I put the bucktail on as a joke but I ended up doing extremely well with it, on both green and brown fish. If guys can do it on deep ledges I can do it in a shallow river right?

1/8 head. Casts pretty nicely on spinning tackle. It is a pretty stout hook, a lot of people say to set the hook lightly on a Ned Rig, but I set it pretty hard. Super sharp, had no problem hooking fish.

Killing them!
Been on an awesome jig bite lately. There's absolutely nothing I like better than when they eat jigs on a long cast on or near the bottom.
41 keepers in ~10 hours on the water (3 trips), all over 13", none over 16" unfortunately.
All on my walmart one dollar special jig (heavily modified of course).
A Hudd68 type bass (wish I was clever enough to come up with that). These little fish pull SO hard.
This fish at least has the length to girth ratio in its favor!
Think I'll take a break for a few days.
5.8 pounds on a jig in a 3 hour Wednesday night tournament. Big fish and helped our other two fish to be good enough for 1st place with big fish. Pretty decent night.
Tight lines
Andrew
Managed this guy on a senko from the kayak in the heat of the day... ~90 degrees and hotter in the sun
Well I didn't catch the 7 lber like I was hoping for the Tournament. BUT I did catch a new personal best and my first Florida Trophy Catch Bass. Submitted it last night. 8.90 lbs, 26" length.
For the All About the Bass Benefit Tournament.
Had the pleasure of fishing with my bro in law Tyler. That is his first NJ LM bass. Set the hook so hard on that poor little guy he fell down.lol He lives in Texas and this was the first time I got to do some fishing with him and it was a treat. 5 LB 1 OZ on a Chug'n Spook Jr, frog pattern from the kayak. It was almost dark as you can see from the photo. It only had one of the 6 trebles, under the jaw. I had to wear it down to get it lipped without wearing those hooks.
I fished an "undeveloped" lake a few weeks ago. Caught a bunch of largemouth and chain pickerels. It's nice to catch pristine fish every once a while.

Nice going there for the Northeast.
Got another nice northern largemouth last Saturday. A 5 lb 5 oz largemouth from Lake Champlain.
Took a good friend out for his first time in over ten years. Spent most of the afternoon trip talking him through things and explaining everything- we got through where and how to cast & work the baits, how to do Texas rigs and then moved on to frogs. He ended up nailing a decent fish in the pads on a kicker frog and wrestling it out of some really thick cover- the guy was so stoked I don't think you could have slapped the smile off his face for the rest of the day haha... It felt so good to get him back in the saddle and see him really get into it. Way better than the few good fish I caught although that was cool too.
My friend
My ugly mug
19" 2.6lbs swim jig
17" 2.3lbs T-rig U-Tail worm
BBZ dink action
Trolling a DT4 in about 12-15 feet resulted in this very nice 32" pike last night. Not bad for a residential lake 15 minutes from my house! Gotta love Minnesota.
Tequila Sunrise YUM curly tail worm. Wasn't paying attention and my line had disappeared! That's what I found on the end of it!

I was just putting around side imaging areas and found an area where they dumped an old road bed in about 40 fow. I mark the spots and troll over them and throw a down a dropshot. This is what I got.
There were four of these things on this pile. I have never caught these channels out on the main lake before, or have them this color.

Spawning male, they get really dark and really aggressive this time of the year when they're spawning.
Got my second largest of the year so far on a buzzbait this past Thursday right after a torrential downpour that I got to thoroughly enjoy since my rain gear was in the truck.
Caught this 20.5" guy back on the 4th on Monroe Lake in Indiana dragging a Zoom Ol' Monster on a 1/2 oz swinging jig head. Only fish I caught all weekend.

And how long did it take on that first one before all that wishful thinking of "I hope this is a Bass" went out the window ?

That makes sense. I seen a group of them in a corner of the harbor but that was in 3 feet of water. Do they also spawn in deep water too?

Thanks. Usually when I hook smallmouth they always make a run for the surface. This guy wanted to stay planted on the bottom, but I was hoping that maybe 8lb smallies fight differently.
Since I got a scale, this is my PB for now. 4 lbs even. Not too bad for this public pond that gets heavily fished. Caught at 5:30 AM the other day.

This was just after the rain. There wasn't much going on during that downpour. I love fishing in rain, but when it gets that heavy it seems like they shut down until it stops. I had a 10 minute window directly after the rain that it was on fire.

I'm not 100% sure since most of our lakes aren't 40' deep anywhere in them, but I've caught them in what is considered deeper water here with full spawning colors on.
Caught this one on a rage craw. Unfortunately he swallowed hook completely so had to cut the line. Hate when that happens but just a part of fishing...

http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12981-how-do-i-remove-a-hook-a-bass-has-swallowed/page-2
Get a thin pair of forceps or needlenose pliers and leaving hooks in a fish will be a thing of the past if you follow the diagram in the above post. It's often better for them to die the relatively fast death from blood loss than to slowly starve if the hook has their throat pinned shut anyways.
Spent the day catching bass on jigs!
9 keepers landed and a couple that came off.
I wish I had some big bass to show off like everybody else. But I don't, so I'll show off the best of my recent little bass instead.
At a new lake one morning around 8:30, two old guys sitting on a porch see me paddle up to some pads and start taking about me, kind of loudly: "Look at that! He's fishing out of a kayak! it's got rod holders and everything! If he gets a big one it will drag him all over the lake, haha!"
Kayak Fishing: Still kind of exotic, it seems!
First cast to the pads, right in front of them, with a weightless t-rigged senko...2lbs even. I should have gotten the old guys in the picture.
And I believe these may be my first two buzzbait fish ever, on a Cavitron yesterday morning:
Under 2lb but both keepers. A third one that seemed bigger came unbuttoned kayakside, unfortunately. And there were a few more strikes I couldn't hook up with. I have had buzzbaits for years and used them off and on, but i don't remember ever getting one to produce before yesterday morning.
Chunky little 3 lber.

Haha it's funny, I usually either catch a lot of small fish for a while and no bigguns, or catch one big one and then I can't get a bite for the rest of the week. It's worth it to me for a big bass, but it seems like I can't catch one right now after I caught a nice one last week.
And get ready to get hooked on buzzbaits! Love those suckers.

Hey, anything over keeper size up here is a quality fish, as far as I'm concerned! And I don't actually mind a day of dinks, either. But numbers and sizes have both been lower than usual for me this summer.
Me and my son from last week
Finessing some lily pads with #8 Nanofil and 7'6" M/F SC Elite spinning set-up wacky senko. 18" 2.4# caught next to big branch in middle of pic. Let senko drop off pad and it hit. Reared up and over the pads Nano for the win
not the greatest pic. Caught him and fix others of the same size using a tiny torpedo on a 3 rip and 3 second pause action.
Few action pics from this past weekend.
Got these 2 last weekend.
5 lbs 4 oz
5 lbs 9 oz
Couple three pounders from my latest outing. River rose about 3' over night but since it's a tailwater, the reservoir kept the muddy water from making its way into the river. Made for a killer spinnerbait bite, tons of fun!
Did a little night fishing Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Minus the nearly 3 dozen channel cats I caught on my bladed jigs and spinnerbaits, I caught 6 bass. 5 of them were less than a pound, one of them was my biggest of the year so far I hate night fishing during a full moon, but the plus side to the normally slow fishing is that I usually get a shot at a big one during a full moon. Slammed a black and blue War Eagle right as it was coming over a log and gave me all she had at 2:30 in the morning, 5lb 9oz.
Right when I caught her.
Our morning photo shoot at the ramp before telling her goodbye.
Lets try this
Caught these last night between midnight and 2 o'clock had a third one come off .Used a Rapala crankin Rap # 5 in red crawfish pattern. Caught them on shallow points .
Well... Sadly, life has gotten in the way and I haven't been able to fish for over a week. Had to complete other major priorities that come first. Worked hard and was able to fish today (August 01, 2015). Fished from ~11:30am - 3:15pm. Caught 3, largest was 1lb 06oz, 14 &1/4''.

Once the big mouths get to this size, they grab my attention. Nice round 16 incher from tonight.
Got some decent fish from a local city lake just walking the bank (as my wife drove beside me in the car giving me the stink eye... She was pouting because one broke her off in the water willows, so obviously that meant "we" were done. ) Snapped a picture of two of them. Pretty average for this lake. They were destroying a frog in the pockets of water in the water willows. Poor guys were cross eyed after the 7' Heavy rod and 65# braid slammed them home...
C&R proven once again. This is the fish from my profile photo that I caught 2 years ago, I'm shocked she is still alive, this is a REALLY old bass, her head is massive and she's very skinny, I'm thinking this fish might get one more spawn in but that's it. My brothers and I have caught her a few times over the years, (one of her pec fins has always been chopped in half so she's very recognizable) this fish normally doesn't look that rough, especially the one time we caught her pre-spawn.
Drop shotting a 4.5" yum sharpshooter. 6lb fluorocarbon leader. 24" only 5.35lbs. Hasn't grown an inch from the time I got her 2 years ago.
Caught 5 today, nothing of any size...
Except for when it comes to the 4 legged variety...

Froggin' in the afternoon in August? I keep hearing about how I shouldn't waste my time...
Did a short float on the little river by my house. Caught a couple smallmouth, half a dozen largemouth, and even a fallfish. All on a Cavitron Buzzbait, the 1/4oz caught smallies and the 3/8oz caught largemouth. I stopped by a pond on my way out and hooked a giant kitty on the cavitron but he pulled off!

A white skirted black jig, with a chartreuse paddle tail. The white and chartreuse combo is a killer up here in stained water.
Np, I see your point and I agree. Luckily the rocks weren't very hot that day, but I can still see how it could damage the fish's skin if it flops around. I made sure to get them back into the water in 30 seconds or less. Unfortunately there's not many other ways to take decent pics of the fish without a friend along. On 8/18/2015 at 12:41 AM, jtharris3 said:Nice fish. Got out for 20 minutes tonight. Caught a nice one and had to leave right after, I wish I could have stayed!
I've been having a tough time this past week. A few days ago (17th) I noticed the water I normally fish and always catch a ton of bass was not producing. I managed to catch one small fish that told me the secret. As I boat flipped him he spit up a Roboworm that had a tear in the nose from a dropshot...
All day long for the next few days I only had tiny fish following the bait(s) and caught very few sizable fish. It's like someone came through and cleaned house on all the keepers and didn't practice catch & release. I've fished this area for the past 2 weeks+, caught and released all my fish, and never had a day like this even with all the pressure I put on it personally, but after the 17th - I could sure tell the difference, it was night and day!
To add to my frustration, almost every day I've lost the would be "fish of the day" either to break off, shaking off, or missing a topwater bait. Then today I got a late start, struggled to catch anything - risking losing my consistent streak, then slammed the hook home into I kid you not a potential personal best smallmouth 4.5-5lb? Ugh I was so stupid trying to rush the landing as I was excited, she darted and the line just snapped...
Headed out in the boat after 6:30pm, managed to catch a small one to stay consistent, but had same results with lack of larger fish. I was running and gunning - fishing slowly, fast. Finally I made the executive decision to change location in the evening, and...
She was 4lb 02oz, 19 & 1/2''. (61 Days Consistent)

I sometimes go to a pond near work for some quick lunchtime fishing. A couple of days ago, I grabbed my 5'6" light rod, tied on a 1/32 oz beetle spin. I was going to try to catch some bluegill or crappie this time. On the 3rd cast, I hooked this guy. It was fun pulling him in on light gear.

Had a first for me happen last night. I did some shore fishing from the small pond at my parents camp. I had a popper tied on and during the second cast something sucked it under. I hooked it, and it thrashed on the surface once then started tugging hard. I thought I had a real nice bass on the line just because of the weight and how hard it was tugging. When I banked it, this is what I find:
Never caught two fish on one cast before, especially not on top water. I got 3 bass, all on a Storm chugbug in about 30 minutes of fishing.
Only one I caught today. But a nice one. 5.88 lbs. I had another good one come unbottoned before I got to see her.
Berkley Chigger Craw, black/blue. They won't let go of this bait!
nice 3 or so pounder caught on a hollow body yesterday in nh.
Did some kayak fishing today. Did pretty well! Between my friend and I we easily landed 75-100 bass, most of them being smallmouth in the 8-13" range, but we caught a few nice largemouth as well.
Biggest fish of the day 3.3lb, one of the prettiest largemouth I have ever caught. Watched him swim out of a laydown and eat my jig!
A little swimbait love too

Fish were caught on squarebills, texas rigged creatures and worms, wacky rigged trick worms and senkos (wacky jighead), spinnerbaits, and an s-waver.
The bait of the day from around noon til 5 when we left was a stupid little 4" t-rigged senko with a 1/16oz bullet weight. Fished it just like a ned rig. Not the most interesting way to fish but we sure did get a lot of bites.

Alright, so recently I had to pickup some new fishing gear. My main spinning reel's bail is going out, so I decided to pickup a replacement. I upgraded to a Pflueger President 6940x. I decided to also pick up another reel that was closer to what I was replacing, so I picked up a Shimano Sienna 4000. All I needed now was a rod and I remembered reading on these forums that a few people recommended the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock. I have messed around with them in stores for a while now and like the feel of them so I finally picked one up.
I paired the Pflueger President with my Shimano Convergence (7'0'' Medium-Heavy Power, Fast Action), and the Shimano Sienna with the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock (7'0'' Medium Power, Fast Action).

Well, this morning turned out to be cold, windy, and rainy (I really was not motivated to fish TBH). So I had my eye watching over the weather.
While I was having lunch, it was looking like a break in the storm was coming and I would have a window of good weather around ~2:30pm. Sure enough around that time the rain stopped and the sun started to come out. I grabbed my Pflueger combo and started to fish around the marina - it didn't take long for me to become 70 Days Consistent.
The weather really cleared up around 3:00pm and was the perfect time to head out in the boat. I grabbed both combos and away we went - I had an idea on how to "break-in" the new Lightning Rod Shock, Sienna Combo...
After a short while I hooked into my second fish of the day, a little Smallmouth Bass.
The bites were few and far between so I was covering a lot of water, I wasn't even getting a bite in some of the best spots so I just kept moving. Finally after rounding a point, I could hear the words I was waiting for... "I got one!"
12'', 11oz - Smallmouth Bass (The first fish she has ever caught.)
So that settles that, the Lightning Rod Shock, Sienna Combo works. We kept fishing into the bay and it was still slow (no other fish were caught). It was getting time to head back and I was more than happy to let her catch the largest fish of the day.
Heh, that was until later that day... when I was just oh so curious to try that Lightning Rod Shock out for myself to see what all the hype was about, and that's when landed this one heck of a CHUNK of a bass...
Umm, Football anyone???
So yeah, confirmed - the Lightning Rod Shock works... Extremely Well.

Nice one but I like the northern shape the best.
Keepers have remained elusive over the last month. So has spare time for fishing. Here's what bit, so here's what I caught, minus the really little guys:
2lb 5oz on a mojo-rigged baby brush hog:
2lb 0oz on a 3.8 keitech fat swing impact + hornet underspin
2lb 0oz, on a biospawn 6.5 plasmatail, weightless t-rigged.
Biggest thing I caught was a decent pike a few days ago, about 5-6lb (sadly, no pic: only two hands + teeth + unsecured rod + spinnerbait still hanging in about 20lb of salad + kayak starting to drift = too awkward to dig out my phone).
Labor Day Largie 21" alil over 5 lbs

Fishing has been great up here in the northeast. Got a couple good ones last Saturday.
In the early morning fog
5 lb 5 oz
Later on in the afternoon
7 lbs 4 oz
Haven't caught anything remarkable as of recent but here's a healthy pickerel.
The Potomac river was a cruel, cruel place today! The wind was so bad that we would just motor up a creek and drift down the banks to fish, if there was a laydown you had one shot at making a presentation. Couple that with a high pressure system and things were just lovely....My first fish came on a texas rigged baby brush hog pitching it at the edge of the grass, the second one came on the edge of the grass with a senko.
Two bass for 5.13lbs was enough to get third place and lock in a shot in the State Championship this spring! Winning weight was 11.8, the only kid who caught a limit. Second place had 3 bass for 6 something. A huge thanks to those on BR who gave me some pointers on fishing the Potomac!

Tore them up Saturday morning! Biggest was 3lb 10oz.
Believe it or not, those three on the top are different bass, all caught with a dropshot rig within 15 minutes of each other. And that big catfish that slammed my H20 swimbait, yeah I though I had a new pb on.
Briery Creek this past Saturday.
3rd cast with a white Booyah buzz bait about 2 feet off the bank. Sorry for the poor perspective on this picture. I didn't have my scale so I don't know the weight but she measured 23.5 inches and had a thick back. Really the biggest of the year so far. Any estimates on the weight?

This pond donkey my sis caught came from the same pond
One of the bigger pickerel I have ever caught. caught this on a swimbait which these things always hit. I love catching pickerel but I have had more bite offs this year than I ever remember. So it was nice to land this fish. Hook came right out and got this thing right back on its way.
Small but fun nonetheless

Up until this year I had never caught a fish on a buzzbait despite having several and using them off and on for years. I bought some cavitrons on the strength of recommendations on this board, resolved to be a little more persistent than usual and, boom, like magic, they produce. They've been far and away my most productive topwater this year.

And in a kayak we can make long casts keeping the buzzbait within a foot of the bank fishing parallel. That's deadly .
Fishing was slow Thursday, but I made up for it by catching my biggest bass of the year so far. 5lb 15oz on one of my homemade bladed jigs in Golden Shiner color.

A couple decent ones from earlier.
Had an hour to kill after school, the rain was dumping so the current was picked up in the river and fish were holding by runoff creeks. caught 8 on a chatterbait, these two were the biggest.
yes sir!
Well done
Caught on a Booyah Pad Crasher in Albino, my favorite frog! I cut the legs at the tip of the frog nose then I snipped another 1/2inch off and I have never had an issue with the hook set. At first I thought I cut the frog too short so I ordered another one, by the time it arrived it has stayed in the box and this one has never came off my rod except to re tie.

So today is the special day I've been waiting for... Let me start off by saying that it just so happens to be the day that there was also a bass tournament on the lake. I could see bass boats running up and down the lake like crazy. I raised my arm and fishing combo in the air and cheered many of them on as they passed by the marina at full speed waving back at me. I don't know the details of the tournament yet, but I decided to head out in the boat around 2:20pm to see if I could hold my own against them...
I managed to talk to a few of them, and I guess the tournament was already over. The guys in the 2nd to last pic had one decent one in the livewell that they released as they were leaving the area. I will be honest and say my goal was to go out and catch something while i was out in the boat with all the pressure that was put on the lake from the tournament. I don't want to admit how many docks and miles of shoreline that I fished and didn't even get a single bite! That is the reality of the pressure that was put on the lake. All I can say is - no matter where I fished, a bass boat was within sight, and sometimes a new one would pull in behind me or ahead of me (respectfully). All I can think about is the question of how many boats fished each of those docks today, 5? 10? 15?...
Well... luckily I learned early on that sometimes to stay consistent I need to stay and fish the area I know best. That's why before I head out in the boat I always faithfully fish the prime spots at the marina that I know hold bass, and...
That is why I am 100 Days Consistent!!!

The shallow bite was on today. 8 spots, and this bonus LM at nearly 3 lbs, made for a decent early fall day.
The only one from this past Friday. Took the yak out for a couple of hours at a not new to me, but new to the yak and being on the water spot. The yellow perch were vicious, they kept giving me false hope. My Frogg Toggs rain gear worked great because it started pouring after this catch.

105 Days Consistent...
Unfortunately I now have to put down my fishing gear, and pick up my rifle as this Saturday (17th) is opening day for deer season. My love for hunting is the same as fishing and sadly I can't do both at the same time. I will be hunting non-stop for possibly the next two months looking for hopefully my 6th 5x5 or larger whitetail buck. Then I will be looking for my elk. So until I fill my tags, fishing is now put on the back burner...
If it's too late in the season when I fish again and happen to zero, I'm happy with 105 Days Consistent.

The 6.1 I caught right before the 8. Broke my PB twice in less than an hour!

10+Lber
2 weekends ago my father in law and I got out for a few hours and put together a solid bag including this 6.92lber. Thought we finally clipped the 7lb mark but just a bit shy. Checked on 2 scales with the same weight reading. Choked a homemade jig I made for him last winter.
Length of a 3 pounder. Belly of a 5 pounder.
Another mixed bag. Past couple of months the pickerel bite has been on and the bass bite has been slow for me, so I have been throwing cranks and spinners at the pickerel.
Got this one on a yellow perch shad shallow
This one kept following the shad shallow but would not hit it. I changed to a booyah super shad spinner and first cast it hit it like a run away freight train. Wet my hands, got a pic and back it went.
caught my first salmon. I was fishing for bass but the salmon schools are very active right now and shallow. I was in the right place right time. This one was feeding aggressively at the surface and I cast into the ruckus and it went right after it. Super cool fish.
For over a month I have not caught many bass and any I have caught have been small. But fun!
From Friday Oct 30th,
Fished for 5 hours and got 5 bites... All were over 3 lbs the biggest was pushing 4, d**n good day as far as quality goes in my eyes and had a good time finding them.

There's a county park near work with a small pond. I head over there often for about 45 minutes of lunchtime fishing. Caught this one today on a 3/8 ounce Z-Man Chatterfrog. I didn't have a scale but it measured 22 inches.

Caught this at a pond I have only fished a few times. It runs right along a quarry I fish and it was very windy and I was having a tough go of it at the quarry. I figured I would jump over to the pond for a few which was much calmer. Caught this on a wacky rigged salty sinker.
Lake Lopez this weekend with fisherrw. Nothing huge, got a 4-4, two 4-1's, one 4, and a 3-3. Caught probably 50 fish, Mostly largemouth with a couple smallmouth and crappie.
good fishing out there deep cranks, dropshots and tubes are your best bets. biggest fish for the weekand was 4'4 pounds with a 4'1 and a 4 behind them...
My two recent catches. Unfortunately didn't measured the weight. Anyone has some idea?
The big fish were eating this week for me! Wednesday was my biggest smallmouth of the year at 4lb 11oz on a Luck-E-Strike STX jerkbait.
Thursday I only got 3.5 hours of fishing and I took too long to figure them out. Once I did though, I caught 2 4lb 10oz, a 4lb 12oz, and a 5lb largemouth. First one ate a homemade brush jig, the last 3 were on my homemade bladed jigs in black and blue.

Managed to sneak out for a bit today.... This and a few pickerel were it....
Haven't been out in a while. Things have been pretty crazy with work and the mountain and ski season approaching. Managed to get out today for a couple hours though, and the skunk was nowhere to be found thankfully. Landed a bunch of really nice fish. The jerkbait bite was head and shoulders above every other presentation. It was awesome.
Lol
And the exclamation point:
Cheers!!
The river I fish was really blown out today, but since it's a tailwater, the mud hadn't made its way through the reservoir yet, and I decided to try and catch a bass. The places I normally walk around on (dry land) to fish would have been well over my head in depth and had too much current rolling through them for a bass (largemouth) to even think about setting up shop. There were some very small eddies up against the bank that I figured the bass had to be sitting in, there was no where else to go! The brush was pretty bad so I would walk up, and drop the bait straight into the brush. Water was pretty cold so I would just jiggle the shakey head around a little bit then dead stick it in 5-10 second intervals. Shockingly I caught 7 bass in about 2 hours. I didn't even expect a bite!
I pulled two 2lb bass from this eddy on back to back pitches (more like freespool's to the bottom)
My last bass of 2015. I caught this last week and decided I would put the gear away for the winter
Caught 8 today, 4 LM, 4 Spots. Threw a gold/black Red Eye, Yum Craw, and a Zoom Shakeytail that this 20", 4.26 lb hoss could'nt resist. Water temps around 57 with little to no wind.
My sister and bro law flew in for the holiday so we all did some fishing. My bro law was most interested in trying to catch a salmon because he never has had an opportunity to fish for them. So we went with medium shiners and a split shot rig.
My sister caught this salmon not long after we got set up. She had a huge birds nest and after it all got cleaned up it turns out a fish was on the line. The legend of the salmon lives!
This bass inhaled the hook. A littler work but we got it out no problem and the fish was on its way good to go
Tyler caught his first pickerel ever. They don't have these where he is from. It started squirming and he threw it back in lol
We put some weight on plenty of pickerel on this day. They were taking shiners left and right
The legend lives
Are you sure those are salmon? They look like Brown Trout to me.

Landlocked Atlantic salmon look a lot like browns, the fish pictured look to be salmon to me.
The jaw in relation to the eye on salmon and brown trout is similar to spots vs. largemouth. (The jaw on a salmon does not extend beyond the eye)
Ok I was just wondering because they looked alot like brown trout.
Caught 8 today after school. River was up and had every fish within 3 feet of the bank. I caught some on a shakey head but it got hung up too much so I fished a 1/8oz texas rig with a trick worm and a baby d-bomb. Fished SLLLOOOWWWW. Any bass is a victory for me from December through mid March!

"small ones" Texas
Small Fatties
Baby d-bomb is still catching here in VA. I had to go to a 1/16oz texas rig though, the fish are so slow that 1/8th was not doing it. They don't really fight in these temperatures

I'm afraid to ask just what those water temps are.
Hit Lake Norman with my cousin this afternoon. Caught 9, including doubling up on this pair! We found water temps had dropped significantly in the last week, down to the 54-55 degree range, and stained. We fished up the lake near the state park. We threw lipless cranks and Zoom plastics.
So yesterday i was fishing my local lake on my lunchbreak throwing a jig around caught nothing. So i leave and go to the giant in a shopping center across the street and i run into a guy who ive seen fishing at the lake. I tell him i had no luck so he tells me i just caught a 7lber outta the lake im like no way hes like yeah its in my truck! So i go take Look and didnt look like a 7 so i offered my scale...4.3 was the weight! Dang fisherman stories lol heres a pic of it
Not a beast but I'll take it for December 13th.
Caught a few on a spoon and a couple on a jig earlier today. Mostly small and barely legal.

Are you fishing that as a jigging spoon? Vertical up and down?

Negative. It's a Lake Fork Flutter spoon, and apparently you're supposed to fish it like a texas rig. That's what I learnt from a couple youtube videos anyway. Never fished a casting spoon before this morning; lots to learn..

2lb 10oz today at 4 o clock!
Plenty of fish today; just wrong species and/or wrong size.
Nice fish!
Caught my biggest smallie of the day on Christmas Eve after we got called off of the lake due to high winds. Slammed my bladed jig almost as soon as I started my retrieve.
Nice fish everyone. Where I am there's a half a foot of snow on the ground and most lakes are frozen over. Only 133 days til fishing season.
Went out on Lake Norman this afternoon. Caught 11, all on t-rigged Zoom plastics. Good fish biting today despite tournament traffic. Surface temps near 60! Hooked this 18" spot that weighed at almost 3 lbs.
nice spot!
They are a blast to catch
Cold, muddy water, high winds, and it was still raining. Throwing a 1/8 siebert finesse jig with a blue bug rodent
first cast
2nd cast.. 4 lbs 5 oz, my biggest pulled out of this lake
Caught 9 today out on Lake Norman including this 18" 3.58 lb largemouth. Feels good to still be catching them like this as the new year approaches.
Wanted to remember what it feels like to set the hook like a man, so I threw this instead of the shakeyhead. Fun stuff and my first two cold water jig fish.
I know there are people further south than me who can keep this thread alive!
I caught this 3lb class fish today on a jig. The window of opportunity between school and work was very slim but I made it happen! Guides were icing up the whole time, things are changing a LOT. The dots near the corner of my mouth are not from me being a messy eater, the bass decided to send some mud and water my way when I reached down to pick it up
I dont know if this counts but I caught a 4 pound catfish at a pond I fish at.

Best smallie of the day.
Great Falls National Park (Potomac River, Virginia side)
Water level was still pretty high but snagged this 19" smallie on my last cast of the evening. Caught on a watermelon candy coffee tube in about 7 feet of water in one of the calmer pockets off of the river. Real pretty fish.

[ January 30, 2016 ]( Ice-Out! )
I had planned to log this day which is 15 days after my previous log day. Had some warm weather, rain, and slight snow over the past few weeks. I was not expecting the lake to be "Ice-Out" quite yet... (Context: In 2014, The lake was completely iced over - up to March 05.) Got word the lake had opened up from ice sometime mid last week. I just picked up my 2016 License - it's time to gear up and get this season started!

75 degrees this morning in St Petersburg, FL and they were chewing:
A solid 5lbers at 21 inch:
Lots of 3lbers to go with it:
My last fish of the season, went out on Erie in mid December, 42 degree water. We each kept our best two for fun. I'm in the middle.
We each had a 3lb and a 4lb class fish.
Each of our smaller ones were 3lb 8oz, 3lb 8oz, 3lb 9oz
Our bigger ones went 4lb 3oz, 4lb, 4lb 9oz
Brought in 24 smallies between the 3 of us in about 6.5 hours
Argh. Wish I could fish. All I can do right now is watch my pet perch swim around in their tank.
Bluebasser and myself put it on them at a power plant lake today. Easily over 100 fish including LMB, SMB, whites, wiper, walter and a MONGO DORKFISH (drum).
Blue has better pics, and a video as well.

Largest @ ~19-20 inches (took a photo of him along my rod and then measured my rod when I got home).
Fattest @ ~18-19 inch:
Rest of them here: http://imgur.com/a/4WSAv. This pond skunked me a few months ago when I only used a weightless senko. First hour today I didn't get a single bite on a senko again. Even when I pitched a senko to a missed fish from the chatterbait, they didn't bite until I tied on a mini jig w/ craw trailer, which caught them fine. First two casts with chatterbait both caught fish. This is actually only the second time I've caught fish with a non-topwater moving lure from the bank... spinners, chatterbaits, and crankbaits seem to never work for me in small ponds (I've gotten them to work fine on big lakes from my kayak). I was going to leave my second rod in the car and just fish senkos only... I'm happy I didn't.

Went kayak fishing at a new lake. Didn't bring my net or fishfinder because access to the lake was difficult... ended up losing a 21-23 inch bass while trying to lip him (I didn't want to flip a 5+lb bass). This raged me so I went back to shore and got my net and fish finder out of the car, but unfortunately just caught dinks for the next hour until winds forced me into a creek (the wind was blowing me across the lake with my 5 lb anchor). All of the fish from the lake were caught near a 5 to 10 ft drop off. Only caught one in the creek. The creek looks ridiculously good for warm water fishing. I'm guessing there aren't many in there during the winter.
Water temperature was 55-58F. About 6 inch visibility. Air temp 65F. 5-15 mph winds.
All of the fish were caught on a strike king bitsy mini jig (probably 1/4 oz but I can't remember) w/ pumpkin craw trailer. They refused to bite blue/black brush hog t-rigged 1/4 oz, white chatterbait, blue/black chatterbait. Missed one while pitching a junebug zoom speed craw 1/2 oz. Probably a dink because he almost pulled it off the hook. The 20+ inch bass had the most subtle bite (I felt no feedback when I tried hopping it, so I just set the hook twice to be safe)... the most intense bite came from that 10 inch dink (I set the hook so hard on the dink that he was launched about 6 ft into the air).
Couple more from today. Stuck a couple other nice sized ones (possibly bigger) but they all spat the hook. What a thrill in February!
I've been meaning to merge my two favourite things in fishing: centerpinning and Bass. Well, I finally did it today.
Now time to hunt for a bigger one on the pin!

Caught 3 bass today on my new Aldebaran and finesse jigs. I never imagined I would be fishing at this time of the year in Boston
My first frog fish (14 inch). I seen my frog go under, but thought my line got stuck under a brush branch as I was moving it. Set the hook when it didn't immediately resurface.
First swim jig fish (17 inch)
My first sight fish (15 inch). Looks like she was bedding in real shallow waters (1 ft). It didn't really look like a bed, but I spent about 15 mins trying to get her to bite, and then a 2nd smaller fish showed up and kept hitting the jig I was using without mouthing it. Eventually I got the big one with a Snake'O Stick.
Also spotted my first gators while kayaking.
I stopped dangling my legs over the sides of the kayak.

Well, my nephew and his buddies got to go out to our fishing lake yesterday and I couldn't be prouder. They got a 20 incher and a 23 incher! Caught about 10 crappie and several more smaller bass too. I will finally get to go again weekend after next and can't wait. I wet my line a little bit on Beaver Lake this weekend, but that water was like chocolate milk from all the rain over the winter and I didn't have the right tackle. Well, I'm doing my best to make good on my 2016 goal of learning how to fish a drop shot. They're not monsters, but any fish is huge when you catch it doing something you're trying to learn at. I was using a 7' 3" ML/XF Ethos with a 25 size President spooled with 5lb Maxima ultragreen with a YUM Warning shot in Oxblood/red.
It's great little puddle to try new techniques on!
We don't have gators to contend with Heavy Twenty, only sea lions. And just like Sea World or the zoo, they know when feeding time is. I'm refering to weigh-ins at the dock. I'm hoping these drop shot fish weren't on their menu this past Saturday ... Continued good fishing everyone, JB
Well....my nieces fished our lake this last weekend and tore 'em up! We keep everything between 10"-15" to keep the lake from getting overcrowded and they caught 20 in that slot! (we need to cull about 1,000 per year per biologist recommendations) Plus, they got a nice 4-5 pounder to boot! (released that one) This weekend it's my turn and I hope I have some pictures similar to this to share.
Great fish. You have to cull 1000 15-20" fish per year? Man that seems like a lot of your big spawn fish.

Ha, I'm still figuring this lake out, we've had it less than a year and it's about a 3 hour drive away from me. Once I get it dialed in real good, there's a possibility we may open it up to outside fishermen as a weekend retreat with a lodge, etc., but right now that's a long way off and we may decide not to do it at all. There's a ton of stumps and trees in it, so all you can use are small aluminum jon boats and trolling motors. It was a private hunting and fishing club (one of the oldest continually operating ones in the state) since 1921 until we bought it, but the fishing lake was created in the mid-90's.

nice!
21" and 5.19 pounds this morning, just stopped for lunch and going back out again. We got about 5-6 crappie and another 6-8 bass in the 12-15 inch range too! The 5 pounder went back and we're culling the rest to keep the pond healthy. I will update with a full report and accurate numbers for the weekend when we're done.
Total count for today was 22 bass and 4 crappie (on bass lures). I was a little off on the crappie count earlier, but that's why I write down everything, to get clean records at the end of the day.

nice!
Caught this beauty on a strike king midnight special since the water was so muddy.
Our total count for the weekend came out to 39 bass and 7 crappie! Largest was still my 5.19 lbs bass pictured above from Saturday. I caught the big one and most of the others on a rebel crawfish crankbait. Also caught a couple on a booyah spinner bait, booyah hollow-body frog and a football jig with a curly tail grub trailer. My dad caught almost all of his on a Norman Quarterback in gold color (he doesn't stray from his confidence bait very often, but hey, it works). Here's a pic of the two largest crappie, about 14.5 inches and 1.65 lbs each.
Pitching seems to be working again. Didn't get a weight because she started flailing when I put her in the water to let her breathe. I should have used the net. Probably 3.5 lb.
rest here: http://imgur.com/a/0uKZh
6 for 6 while pitching strike king twin tail menace. 1 for 3 on swim jig. Pretty sure one was bedding and just attacking the jig, the other managed to jump the hook while I tried pulling it about ~150 ft through grass. 0 for 2 on frog. They were small fish so I assume they had trouble swallowing the frog. Spotted a giant 8+ lb bass roaming through a spot I already pitched to. She didn't seem to be bedding.
Broke my Dobyns heavy rod on accident at the end of the trip... probably won't be able to fish here till I get that replaced in two weeks.
Great story and pic Heavy 20. Sorry to hear about the rod, hope it was on a hook set....

4.5lb bass caught on my first cast with a jig! I only had 45' to fish today, and caught 2 bass and 1 pickerel within 30', all on jigs

Whoa!! Nice fish!!!
In other news I got out on lunch and called out the rest of the afternoon it was so darn nice. Ended up bein a good idea- First Larry of 2016! It's on!!!
Congrats on a nice bass
Bluebird skies and a high pressure system had the fish doing something I sure couldn't figure out. Two babies, one brown one and one green one was all I ended up with, but it was the first brown one of the year! When I was throwing the swimbait, the largemouth knocked a ton of slack in the line he hit it so hard and my heart skipped a couple beats until I swung and he skidded in across the surface.
My partner (Boat owner) and I spent Tuesday, Wed and Thursday on the FP-13.
This was our third trip of 2016 and our expectations were high as this is typically our best month for size and numbers, we have had some 100 fish days in March with an occasional trophy class(10Lb +), but also have had some days when you would think there was not a fish in the lake. We normally start in January and fish till June when the air temps reach high 90's, no breeze and the hydrilla gnats can carry you off.
On Day 1 we found the ramp crowded again with out of state, and out of county tags.
We ran to an area known as the "nursery" because of the hard bottom and numerous stumps and apparently the word was out because by sun rise there were 20 boats with us and everyone catching fish. That bite lasted till around 1 P.M.
On day 2 we beat the morning fog that settled in on the lake and held back a lot of boats so we had the nursery just about to ourselves for about 1.5 hours.
Day 3 the fish had been beat up pretty bad by now in the nursery and the bite was off by 9 A.M. and we only had 9 with no picture fish(5lb or better) so we relocated to another area as we know as the totem pole were we found a school of fish and ended our day there.
Again stick baits were responsible for the lion's share of catching with a few spinner bait, crank bait, Texas rig ribbon tail worm and swim baits.
Air Temp- Highs, mid 80's, Lows mid 60's.
Mostly cloudy.
Wind - 5-10 Variable.
Rain- 0.
Barometer reading- low.
Day 1. Caught and released 27, Two 7 lbs, One 6 lb, Two 5 Lbs.
Day 2. Caught and released 37, Three @ 6lb, Three @ 5 lbs,
Day 3. Caught and released 32, Largest was 6 lb, Two @ 5 lbs.

Someone not from the KC area finally took me up on my invitation to come fish, and what a day to do it! Kickerfish1 and his friend joined me for a day chasing smallmouth. We had wind, rain, snow, and sleet, but we caught over 50 fish with several pretty nice ones in the mix. You can see the snow in the last picture of kickerfish1 with his nice smallmouth. Believe it or not, it snowed a lot harder than that for quite awhile.

Nice smallie. I guess that means the fish are biting around here. I gotta get out there!
It's really nice to see people posting in this thread regularly again!
Slowly but surely (Very slowly), picking them off one at a time. Only 3rd fish of the year but another quality one at 3 lbs 14 ounces, 19" long? On a white spinnerbait this time.
First South Carolina Bass and boy was it great. My friends and I guesstimate that the fish was 4lbs. That ties my PB!!!!! Super stoked and I have found a new SC honey hole. Water conditions were in the 40s with the cold front. I did see some fish crusing the banks. Caught it on a 10 inch BPS Tourment Seris size 4 offset hook Texas RIgged. So happy hopefully this bass will jump start 2016
Got this one on my last trip a couple days ago.. not sure of the weight at all unfortunately .. I was guessing possibly 5lbs? It's my biggest to date in my long and illustrious two whole weeks I have been bass fishing lolllllll

Nice fish, but your thermometer may be wrong!
First fish of the year worth mentioning. Pulled from the meramec river this evening on a black/blue rage blade.
Had an awful day. Caught 4... out of 15 hits. Started off well enough with 2 catches on a trick worm. Swapped over to a fluke to practice it (second time using it), caught the first one, and then missed 5 in a row. Started using a spook puppy and missed 5 in a row.... I don't know how a bass could miss a stationary top water twice in a row, but it happened three times. At that point I was raging, but I caught another on the fluke and missed another.
Most of the misses felt like short strikes. Normally I'd just delay my hookset by 1-2 seconds so they could get the lure in their mouth, but these guys were just hitting and running. On the first miss I almost dropped my rod because it ran so fast.
Unfortunately most of the bass looked sick. http://imgur.com/a/ZAaEI

Dayum. They look hungray! Can't worry about the shortstrikes. They sometimes do that. I guess they don't really want it, they just want it to stop.
Was able to pick up another nice one today using a swimbait. It was 4 lbs 2 ounces, 20" long. On my 3rd cast, but was unable to bring any others in.
This dude got lucky 2x. First, it appears as though a baby osprey got ahold of him and then dropped him....
Then I got him and released him.
caught this one Thursday, had to get ready for family Friday. Going out today looking for his mama. Working nights has me feeling like I'm a day behind.

Something definitely tried to munch him, and it was semi-recently. Wherever you were fishing, go back there with the biggest swimbait you can throw!

I didn't pick up on that, but now looking at the picture I dont know how I missed it. What would be swimming around in the Meramec River (st louis county) that would try to snack on a 2 lb bass I wonder???

A 5 or 6 pound pass or any catfish over 10 pounds. A big snapping turtle, osprey, or blue heron could do it as well. The cut makes me think a heron narrowly missed a large meal.

I was thinking catfish given the lack of teeth marks and the force to crush like that, but that could easily be a big bass too. Looks like it grabbed him and gave him a good shake.
yeah I'd be back there ASAP wetting lines haha

You know it's illegal to fish for manatees right? Lol
She couldn't stand the trap....
Managed to find 3 fish Saturday Evening, all of them on the spinnerbait. Don't know why i've brought the other rods lately because I've only caught them on the spinnerbait my last 3 or 4 trips out!! This was the medium one, had a tiny one shake off right at the kayak. The bigger one was about 3# but i thought there was another fish with it so i tossed it back and immediately went back to casting, so no pics, but it was 17.5" on the hawg trough. And no, did not catch "the other one"!
All 3 fish were in about a foot of water which may not be a huge deal considering the place i was fishing is only about 6-8 feet deep for the most part. But man what a rush when you see that torpedo waking behind your bait!!!!!! And i also love that they were loving my homemade skirt yet again, until i snapped that pretty puppy off halfway through the day! you can bet I'll be tying up some more of that lovely "Tarheel" skirt this week!

I've been looking for a solution to rod storage since I can't really use a crate with my dog on the back. I think that just might be it.

you boys are in luck then!! cheap as you'll find! i kinda got the idea from @Fishing Rhino with that cool setup he has on the canoe in his avatar.
I took 2 of the cheap vertical rod hangers that i already had, trimmed up the foam pieces and figured out an easy way to mount them on the yak. the front one is held in by the bungee that was already there, just ran it though the screw holes on either side of the mount. the back one is mounted with the scotty holder that was already on the kayak when i bought it, just ran a bolt/nut through the mount and that holds it in place.
Works pretty well if i may say so myself! only thing to be mindful of is that the rod tips are out in front of the kayak so when i'm skipping around docks and stuff i have to just pay attention and not let them get too close to the dock. but since i've had these, i've never dealt with the rod/lure caught on a tree limb situation that i used to have. also makes it super easy to switch back and forth from one rod to another while standing up and fishing.
Stick Marsh/FarmPond-13
They were in 1-2FOW, the backs of pockets and coves were up to 4 degrees warmer than the main lake, and bass knew it. Even a 4" senko spooked them. Ended up slow rolling a weightless 4" swing impact, and it turned out pretty well!

Finally got out friday for some fishing on the Susquehanna river. The amazingly warm nights we've been having really turned the fish on.First one bit a crankbait after that I switched to a in-line terminator spinnerbait. Caught 4 altogether. Only 1 was under 2 pounds. In the "I"m lucky to be alive" category while I was fishing we had some really heavy winds. A tree broke off at its base and came crashing down about ten feet from me. I only got hit by some of the smaller branches, nothing but a few cuts and scrapes on my arms.
My first bass of the year here in Buffalo.
Badin was tough today... only got 2 fish but I got the right ones.
This one was right at 6lbs. Caught it on a junebug colored lizard
Total was 2 fish 9.5lbs
nice fish bro!

Today was just one of those special days... Recently on March 28, 2016 there was snow on the ground... the last few days have had temperatures in the high 60's, and today the temperature reached 70. The sky was partly cloudy with moderate wind, and the pressure was falling... It seemed everyone knew it was a great day for fishing as you could constantly see bass boats running up and down the lake all day long...

Once the nest is built, the female will arrive and lay between 2,000 and 40,000 eggs, depending on her size. The male will stay and guard the eggs, which will hatch in about a week. When the fry (group of baby fish) hatch, they will stay in the nest for another week. |

[ April 04, 2016 ]
Two days after my previous fishing day, a cold front moved through the area dropping both the air temperature, and a lot of rain. Late that evening there was even a bit of thunder and lightning...
It's spring, pre-spawn, and the bass want to move shallow. I figured the cold front would probably push them back out deep where things are more stable. The forecast predicts nine good days of clear warm weather after the front, so the question is... how long will it take for the bass to move back shallow and for the fishing to turn back on?

Well today while I was at work, the sky was partly cloudy with a good amount of wind. I was trying to decide which day of the week might be best to try fishing again. I was even considering today if the weather stayed nice enough, but thought it might be too early as it was only the day after the front. That's about the time I found this...
Well... that settles that, I decided to answer my own question and fish today to see what comes of it... so at 4:30pm I headed out in the boat with my 5 combos & gear. This was the result...

Looks as though the front is still sitting on top of ya.
Looking @ the water the wind looks to be light.
I am guessing the fishing will begin to worsen a little as post front conditions move in (high pressure, wind/breeze, sun)
Nice fishing.

1.) The radar image was taken the day before, it passed over and the sky was partly cloudy on the day I fished.
2.) There was a good amount of wind during the day (I was fishing the protected side of the lake where the wind was less.)

3.) Today the sky was clear, sunny, light wind, and the pressure was high (above 30.00 in)... Result?

My 4 Friends Say... The Power of Pre-Spawn > Post-Frontal Conditions.
Unfortunately, I only caught 4 today, and couldn't get that last one for a 5 fish limit. The lack of numbers however was made up for in size of the fish though. I fished clean with no losses, caught all fish on 2 of the 5 combos.
Did I mention I love Pre-Spawn?

Now that is high pressure, You know your not suppose catch fish under those conditions.

Had a beast of a fish get off right under the canoe on my second cast of the outing but I still nailed some nice chunky pre-spawn fish to make up for it.. Stuck with the catchem caro uncle manny minnow and got 6 fish that morning, water is still pretty cold up here..

More High Pressure (30.00-29.98 in), Clear, Post-Frontal Conditions...
I've been waiting for this day for over a week, as it was originally forecasted to be one of the warmer days (75). I had hoped it would be the day that a large number pre-spawn bass would be drawn to the shallows to feed before the upcoming spawn. I even got one of my co-workers involved and he planned to take a friend out in his boat to also fish today. I headed out in the boat around 4:30pm and fished till 7:40pm, here are the results...

It took some work, but I got it done... Caught the 5th one in the last 5 min before I had to call it a day and head back. It took a bait change to make things work today... I will check with my co-worker tomorrow, and update this with his results.
(Co-Worker's Results: Caught 1 Largemouth ~12'', & 1 large Crappie - was fishing warmer muddy water)

Caught my 5 fish today, and left them biting as it was getting dark and I had to head back. There is a bass tournament scheduled for this Sunday on the 10th, which gives me one more day before the lake gets heavily pressured (& No, I'm not in the tournament). It's been fun watching bass boats fly by all week long, while caching these good fish... (All >12'') There was only 1 day that I encountered one, which proceeded to fish right in front of me - in the exact area I was fishing while I was taking pictures of a bass I just caught. I watched him pass over the area twice with no luck, then get on plane and cruse out of there... I continued fishing as he was leaving and proceeded to catch two more right behind him.

Did a little creek bassin this morning with my boys, caught 3 in about 15 minutes (attention spans of a 3yo and 18mo don't last longer than that)...

Two of my largest fish in the last two weeks:
Blind in one eye, big tear in side mouth. He's probably been caught 3+ times. Weighed in at 2 lb 14 oz, but he has the head of a 4+ lb.
3 lbs 14 oz.
Was fishing a pond across the street from my house and seen a top water explosion so big that I thought it was a gator. I eventually made my way over to the spot and seen the largest bass of my life. She wouldn't bite and I found out that someone caught her the next day with live bait. She was 12 lbs.

Last day before the bass tournament tomorrow... The weather was nice - clear sky, moderate wind, 74 degrees as a high, and pressure around ~29.65 in. I got an earlier start since it's the weekend, and headed out in the boat around 1:00pm...

Bass #6 (First Largemouth Bass of 2016)
Fished up until 7:20pm, and decided to call it a day...
It turned out to be another great day, caught some nice bass. Sadly, I lost two today... one ~1.5 lb-er I hooked on the jerkbait managed to shake off while fighting it to the boat, & another good one ~3lb+ managed to come unbuttoned from the soft plastic even with the rod loaded up and a tight line... idk what happened - if it was just skin hooked, or I didn't get a good hookset... I really wish I could have added that one to the caught list - would have made today even better.
Still debating when I will fish again... it's been so good lately I really hate to miss a day, but with the tournament pressure and other things I need to get done It might not be until next week. Soon the smaller male buck bass will begin moving up and start creating beds. Going to miss having days like I've had this past week...

We are just about all post spawn now.
There might be a small % of row laden females but for the most part they are done. And again we did not get a GIANT.
But any one cast here can really surprise ya.
There are still some grown ones lurking about.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the likes everyone... unfortunately I've caught a really bad bug which has put me down since Sunday. Not sure if it's allergies as there was a ton of pollen all over me when I was fishing on Saturday, or if I wasn't careful and got bacteria from the fish. As far as symptoms go you name it I've had it from top to bottom. This is the first day I've even had the energy to turn my computer on, let alone think about fishing. Believe I'm feeling better now as I'm taking medication, but it is that time of year and a lot of people are getting sick, just a warning you can never be to careful...

The pointer 78 nabbed the first two smallies of the year for me in the little river/stream near my house. The water is unusually clear for this time of year, typically it is green with 3-4' vis, right now it's so clear that it looks like the water isn't even there. Sure was fun watching them chase down the jerkbait! Now that the little ones have moved up into the stretch behind my house, the big ones won't be far behind.
Fished for 4 hrs today and only caught 1 but she was a good one.

Had a blast yesterday fishing in a wounded warriors event. We caught about 25 fish. Our vet had fun all day long and really enjoyed it. Going out again tomorrow hoping to have another good day again.
4.76 from today, caught one other around 3.5 just didn't take a pic, and a bunch of pikerel.
I got to one of my home lakes this morning expecting some hot pre-spawn action, but things never go to plan. This particular lake has ZERO weeds or cover except for downed and overhanging trees along the bank. This is THE ONLY cover on the lake and the only spots that hold fish so they are usually pretty easy to locate. When I got there this morning, I was very disappointed to see that, due to the lack of snow melt this year, the water level was down by about 15 feet, leaving the over-hanging and fallen trees on dry land about 10 feet away from the water. And to make matters worse, the water was very muddy (its usually gin clear) and a few degrees cooler than I was anticipating. I knew it would be tough fishing but decided to put the boat in anyway. I did manage my first bass of the year, a tiny one, and that was it. Felt good to smell fish again, and this little guy happened to be my first Ned Rig fish.
Had my college club Tournament yesterday and absolutely smoked them, beat the other teams by over 9 pounds. My two biggest went 7-6 and 6-11
Had a great weekend! I got a 3.45 pounds 20 3/4 inch one and my nephew got a 3.55 pounds 20 incher.
Total for the weekend was 57 bass, 5 crappie, one bream.
Same fish, no long-arm.
Caught 22 on Saturday, had a few that spit the hook. No size at all though.
My first bass on my new bass boatwas a dink
A couple from FP-13, will be heading back for a 4 day adventure on Sunday.

First nice topwater fish of the year. About a 3 and a half on a spook jr. Getting to be that time!
First two good ones of the year.

Good start! Amazing difference in regions, I only have a month of my season left while our brothers to the North are just kicking it off.
We stop fishing 1 June as the temps are "just to darn HOT"

A month from now up here will only be mid-spawn lol. That's too bad you only have a month left in your season, because I love seeing all the pictures of the lunkers you have been posting.

Heading down for a 4 day adventure this afternoon. Air Temps already mid 80's and if the wind is not between 10-15 the Hydrilla gnats carry ya off.
Fishing wasn't as fast-paced as my last trip out, but I did manage three good ones in just two hours, including two surprise smallmouth. I have never gotten a smallie out of this lake in 4 years of fishing it, and never heard of them being caught here either. I ended up with TWO good ones. I could not believe it!

Texas-Rigged Rage Tail Structure Bug.

Very Nice, I have heard there was some smallies in that lake, you just proved it!! you can probably thank hurricane Irene for that!
Spring football season!
Two of our biggest from the tourney this weekend.
Two toads from Lake Gaston this past weekend. These 2 anchored a big bag that helped me jump from 14th after day 1 all the way to a second place finish. If I could have just made one more cull on the first day I would've probably won the whole thing . The big one was 6-1, the other one was around 5. Both caught on a @Siebert Outdoors Dock Rocker jig
.
Awesome!!

You're making me look bad lol. Did you end up fishing near holly grove Marina at all?
These were caught within a few days of each other both on a swim jig with a rage craw, left one went 4.7 and the right went 5.7, not sure why the right photo is turned but she's there..

Different weekend man , fishing got better each day I was there from Wednesday on. You guys had the tougher fishing last weekend.
I fished downlake, Stonehouse was the furthest uplake I went...But I essentially fished everything between there and the dam. All the major creeks plus a bunch of main lake cuts/coves on both sides.
4.05# the vision 110 has been money so far this year!!!
Not a big one but to pretty not to share
after early success with the jig and craw its been almost 2 months of failure with that combo. but today i was able to hook this 3 pounder. a few minutes later after this catch i thought i got it snagged on a branch before realizing it might be a big bass but as soon as that thought came into my head it popped off. im still kicking myself for not at least trying to set the hook. i remember reading the jig tips and they say when in doubt set the hook. im still a rookie at this game so i still have a lot to learn.
5.5 lb pig on a wacky rigged zoom centipede.
My usual prespawn spot for lack of a better term has been crapped on. Quite literally I think someone may have dumped a port a john up stream or something. So I've been struggling to find decent or any fish lately.
just when I was starting to feel the frustration this girl brought me back to life.
Got this one too, glad I found a new spot. I'll be back on it later today.
A few more chubby ladies from last weekend including my dad's PB
Another FP-13 trip.

Your dad could almost pass for Rick Clunn.
Lol. They both rock the "old dude with a beard" look pretty well.
Hopefully the tournament will go as well as practice! This one went 4.3, I think I shook off enough for us to catch tomorrow ?
Haven't kayked in a month due to car problems. Finally got a truck yesterday, so...
Caught this guy and thought I had a new personal best, but she turned out to be skinny 5lb4oz
Caught another nice one nearby 4lb14oz on a pitboss (probably my favorite plastic because its so cheap and durable but effective)
Missed something that was at least 30 inches long. Looked too skinny to be a bass, but too thick to be an alligator gar (the lake has a reputation for tons of gar). I'm assuming it was a 6-10 lb mudfish. Funny part is I felt the hookset on that mystery fish was the best one I had all day, but it was the only one I missed.
Rest here http://imgur.com/a/BTE3c. Caught 10 but didn't take a photo of all of them.
Had a pretty solid day at Buggs Island. 12.24lbs puts us in 2nd in the state championship on day one. The forecast for day two looks like a lot of rain but we are hoping to scratch our a few before the storm rolls in wth thunder/lightning and shuts us down.
Caught 13 on the home lake last evening. Most were caught on senkos and trick worms.Total fishing time was 2 and a half hours.Windy ! This one was the biggest.Caught on watermelon seed trick worm.Caught my PB 30 feet from where I caught this one.
Caught this one a few weeks ago thought I posted it but I guess not. This one went 6.47, caught another 10 or so just didnt take pics. Another great day thanks to the vision 110!!!

Dang that's pretty!
Some fish I've caught I really wish I had an HD scan/shot of the scale pattern. I kind of wonder why that isn't more of a thing- having a binder of "whole fish" shots next to a close up of just their side pattern would be pretty cool IMO. You could also tell when you caught the same fish again, as the markings are unique.
Finally sort of getting the hang of catching fish out of the kayak. Setting the hook has been a difficult thing for me to figure out, but I'm getting there. Made the best of the 2 hours I had at a really tough lake.
this one isnt a giant but it's pouring rain here this morning so i thought i'd check in. we've been catching alot of fish this spring, mostly spots in the 1.5-2 lb range on Lake Norman. i've been fishing another, smaller lake, alone on early weekend mornings. yesterday i caught over 40 fish including ths 19" LM that went a little over 3 and a quarter. yall take care.
WOW!
been having a good run of big fish lately
this one ran 7-5
had the crazy itch to sneak out of work 20 min early. a tad under 3 lbs on a tiny jig.

Would that be Mtn. Island?
Motor Oil Zoom Trick Worm on a Shakey Head
Good evening on the lake
been keeping my big fish streak alive, 6.4lbs on a 8.5 inch glide bait
we drove up to Lake Hickory today and had to work hard for 8 fish, all large mouth, including this one i caught, that went close to three and a half
Was able to get 1 nice catch Monday after work at a local pond (5 lbs 2 oz). Picture quality was horrible, sorry.
Joey that is a basketball with fins!
Couple post spawn from FP-13.
Starting to get pretty warm around the lakes come mid afternoon.
Will not be long before the boat and tackle get put up for the year.
Going back down on Sunday for a four day adventure.

Nice ~ Congrats
You guys have been one them good.
Good Luck on your next adventure but something tells me you'll probably do OK.

First trip of the year . Cold temps puts the bass spawn on hold , pulling them into slightly deeper water into the heaviest cover . Texas rigged Jelly worms caught them . 4 over the slot , 2 under .
First time back out in a couple weeks early this AM. It rained, was a bit windy and cold but who cares, I needed it. Caught a couple dinks and a few panfish that were approaching too-big-for-the-pan siz
