I was wondering what everyone packs for a whole day on the water. I love food. I love to eat and I should eat to live but that is not as much fun. My usual old standby is PBJ. What are your choices for a day on the water?
It varies. Plenty of beverages, water, soda, fruit juice, etc. Usually have a supply of cheese or peanut butter crackers, and a sandwich or two. No preferences other than something simple, that's not messy to eat Usually bring some fruit. That's about it.
I usually get distracted and forget to eat honestly, more so if im catching them.
"No time to eat must cast..."
I really dont like to take alot of stuff also helps avoid "uh oh gotta go #2 out in the middle of no where" which i live in fear will happen to me one day haha. which means it will Probably be some time this year during one of my weekend series tourneys. ha!
I prefer to eat something lite before going out for a long day. If i do take something i'll keep it simple, Jerky, bag of chips and some kind of energy drink like 5 hour, and maybe a couple of Diet Dews or water. Just enough to put something in the tank so i'm not starving and get distracted by hunger while fishing.
Water, cheese/pb crackers, maybe a sammy, and definitely gotta have some sunflower seeds.
Sub sammiches, pop, and apples or oranges, and plenty of water on tourney day. I'll trade the pop for a couple beers fun fishing, and maybe throw in some pretzels
Bottled water and gatorades. Protien bars, nabs, or a couple of the one dollar double cheeseburgers bought the night before from McDonalds. Something simple and not messy.
I normally take my Bubba cup full of coffee in the mornings.
water, gatorade, a sandwich, peanuts, and a snickers

My son and I have a morning ritual. Gas up at Thorntons and grab a 6 pack of chocolate longjons
If we remember: Water and chocolate bars. And cigarettes.
We usually only go out for about 6-8 hours so we tend not to bring too much.
Pb&j, sometimes so beef jerky or trail mix. Usually have a 2 gallon jug of water or thermos of coffee depending on the time of year.
4-5 bottles of water (3 usually are frozen that act as ice packs in the Hobie soft-sided cooler I carry), 2-3 granola or fruit bars, 2 mini bags of trail mix, a bag of beef jerky and an apple or two. Occasionally, I will throw in a PBJ or a ham/turkey sandwich on wheat.
Part of this is to make sure I have something on my stomach each hour on the water and increase my energy level without need for leaving early. In the event that my day is cut short, I have snacks for the ride home.

Pretty much this exactly. Plus BANANAS too!
I always remember to bring some Lance Crackers, or some other food that doesn't require refrigeration. Sometimes some meat & cheese & crackers snacks like Lunchables. Sometimes a sandwich from Caseys or a half sub from Sub Shop. Sometimes celery & carrots. I've learned my lesson about fishing all day and not eating, i.e. that isn't a particularly healthy thing to do. I always carry plenty of water and generally I'll carry a few beers. Even if I'm only going for half a day, I carry water & food.

I forgot to mention the smokes...but thats nothin new..i do make sure to have an extra pack in case its a slow frustrating day.
Gatorade
Homemade jerkey (deer or beef)
Peanuts
Crackers
Mini snickers
Chips
Usually just grab a quick bite or two every hour to try to keep from getting to hungry, because once I am hungry, there is only one thing on my mind. FOOOOOD!
Its always the same thing, Large black coffee (no sugar), bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel, Wawa Italian Sub, Entenmann's Pop 'ems, Cheetos (or salt and vinegar chips), 16 oz Coke, large orange Gatorade, Large Deer Park H2O. If I'm still hungry I carry a couple of Trail Mix packs...
Honey wheat pretzel twists and some water. Oh honey wheat pretzel twists how I love you. I tend to stay away from anything that makes me pop a squat and so far these keep it under control.
Granola bars, 2 sandwiches, 4-5 waters, and either a pop or coffee for early mornings.
BANANAS??? holy cow! that's like putting a live skunk in your boat....or the devil himself!
I usually pack water, couple cans of soda, some fruit and homemade snack sticks or Jerky. I like to have food that is quick to eat so i can get back to fishing ASAP.
When I'm pond hopping (which is 99% of the time), I throw a water bottle and a cliff bar in my tackle box. Cliff bars are great! I can be completely worn out, eat one, and be full of energy for the next hour.
Bananas
I wouldnt dare!
Tyson chicken tenders kept cold,my fishing buddys wife makes them the night before and they are great.Love cold water, had days in the summer when I was young I would of paid $20.00 for a Gatorade.
i like the small tuna pouches. i eat them straight on big cheez-its. usually have a poweraid or 2 on ice.
deer jerky or almonds to keep me from getting hungry if I'm out 4-6 hours. I'll swing by subway and bring a cooler if it'll be longer. When It is hot, I like to freeze a couple bottles of water to keep it cool.
Poptarts and iced tea. The wife usually meets me at the dock with lunch.
I always throw a pack of peanut butter crackers in my vest pocket incase the fish are biting and we dont wanna stop, lol. Most of the time will hit wawa and get gatorades, hoagies and chips.
If I know I'll be moving around a lot and the runs will be ten minutes or more, I'll pack some kind of sandwich. I'll normally stop on the way to the lake and pick-up a good sized meal and then just stay hydrated until I'm on the way back. If I bring anything, it'll be snack sized fruit or baby carrots and sweet peppers along with some ranch dip.
I'm surprised as I can be that nobody said the ol' classic, Vienna weenies. I just finished a can of them, too.
If I go alone or with a friend it's any combination of pop, chips, cookies, Little Debbie cakes, candy bars kept cold, and sandwiches.
If I go with my wife, I'm liable to be fishing from the front deck with my back to her and in my own little world, smell somebody cooking burgers on the grill at a nearby campsite on the lake, turn around and realize it's her frying them on a propane grill in the back of the boat. Yeah, she did that once. It was awesome eatin' since I was severely hungry, but after it was done I told her to never do it again. She asked why and I just pointed to the 12 gallon fuel tank behind her. She was like, wow, never gave it a thought. Thought you all might enjoy that story. Man, they sure were good, though. The whole time I was eating I kept thinking how bad that fire could have been.
When I was a little kid I'd go crabbing with my dad on the Magothy River (off the Chesapeake) and my mom would pack ham and cheese sandwhiches. I don't really even like ham and cheese but for some reason, after sitting in a plastic bag for 3 or 4 hours in the sun and and condensating all in the ziplock, it tasted good. Go figure.
Now that Im older (and boatless) Im fishing from and bank and my trips usually only last a few hours. As such, I usually just grab something to eat on the way. Depending on where Im going and time of day it's either Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle value meal or Fillet-o-Fish value meal from McDonalds or Ill hit the pit beef place and either get a Scrapple Egg and Cheese on white toast with hasbrowns or a Pit Turkey Sandwhich and Fries.
Water and Gatorade. I don't eat much while fishing, but when I do it's during the run from one spot to another. Either small packages of crackers (cheese or peanut butter) or just several peanut butter sandwiches for the day. It has to resist top speed, and those do pretty well.
Coors Light is enough to get me through most days on the water.
It depends on the legnth of outing. Typically I am out for 3 hours minimum and as long as 12 hours. For the shorter trips a non carbonated beverage and a non messy snack or fruit. For longer outings a cooler is packed with multiple beverages, fruit, pretzels, sandwiches, etc...
Starts the night before, no meal with a lot of salt, same goes for breakfeast in the morning. When my diabetes was not under control I drank a lot of water, too hard to take a whizz in 5' waves. Now that my blood sugar is in control I drink very little when I'm out there, make sure I don't eat anything with too much salt and no sugar. I have to eat to live, just the way it is, I maintain a very healthy diet, I have no choice, my wife won't let me.........lol.
Curry lamb with a nice mango relish over wild rice, some maple syrup brazed scallops with a light salad and balsamic vinaigrette. I don't drink wine so a 2 liter of Pepsi to wash her down.
Hot dogs. Cook them before I leave and put them in a thermos to keep them hot. Put the hot dog buns and mustard in the cooler with the ice water.
In my book. nothing better than a good old plain baloney sandwich, bottled water and maybe some chips.
Good Coffee,(Jamisons & Baileys), Gatorade, Deer jerky, BL for slow times.
PB&J, bag of chips, gatorade, and some juice boxes.
I refuse to eat any kind of sandwhich on regular bread unless its pb&j. I have a pack stove that I carry also, about the size of a small coffee can. Bought it for hunting... msr pocket rocket. I can heat up anything you can make at home on it. If its a sandwhich other than pb&j it must be on some kind of good roll or I wont eat it. Bologna and cheeze/crackers...
I dont mind sitting down now and then, gives you a couple mins to regroup. If its an 8hr tournament and I am just SMOKIN them left and right I wont eat. But if I am coming up short then I will eat and think about what I am doing and if I should adjust.

This is a genius idea, may have to try it, maybe try some Links as well!
I'm usually not out on a boat all day like some of you guys. When i am out on the boat, its usually early morning trolling for stripers or late evening and after dark casting for stripers and bass. In the mornings i usually havent eaten yet, sometimes i may have had a couple donuts or some sort of pastry and coffee, so i usually pack me a ham or turkey and cheese sandwich and take that with me, along with a cup of coffee or a cold soda and a bottle of water. In the evenings ive eaten dinner by then and am usually not hungry, its all about a cooler full of ice cold beer by then.
If i'm bank fishing ill eat something before i get there, i may take a couple small bags of peanuts or chips, maybe a granola bar or candy bar, just some basic snacks picked up from the store on the way. and a couple sodas or bottles of water. if i am night fishing for catfish i always have a cooler of budweiser within arms reach lol. and if im just going for an hour or so, i usually take nothing but a drink or two...
I don't eat on the boat unless i'm with a guide. G2 gatorade and skoal mint,
Lots of water, dried fruit to snack on and a toasted bacon& egg sandwich or two. In winter substitute a thermos of coffee for some of the waters and I will usually eat twice as much.
Water, gatoraide, nabs, protein bars, and copenhagen.
For a full day on the water pre-fishing I bring:
-Ice water
-snickers
-venison/chese sandwhich
-busch light
Tournament day:
-ice water
-sandwhich
-sunflower seeds
-marlboro reds

My dad lives off Vienna weenies when we go out. I think he keeps a case of them lying around just for fishing.
I always forget to eat. I try to bring sandwiches and chips, but if it is a tournament, I usually just bring a power bar type snack.
3-4 bottles of water, trail mix, chips, energy bar, and sometimes home made sandwiches. Most of the time, I will just stop and go to subway or something.
PBJ is my favorite along with a milk chocolate bar for an energy booster along with a diet coke of course. Somedays its ham & cheese. Any sandwich i can eat out of the wrapper without touching it.
Jack Link's, water, and a bottle of Mountain Dew, in case my blood sugar tanks.
For an all day trip. Lots of water and a Gatorade or 2. A few granola or fruit bars. 2 sandwiches or 12" hogie. 2 cans of rub. Cut in half if only going out for 4-5hrs

Dude, are you diabetic? I am. It sucks but good diet and excercise normally keeps it in check.

I'm diabetic too. I was having a problem with medication, at times my glipizide took me down into the 50's, that's scary. My dr has me on Januvia and metformin and the nature of those drugs is not for the real low count, it's been working pretty well the last 3 months. Saw my diabetes doc 2 days ago, I'm not on insulin but he was telling that the vicious cycle of being on insulin is that it promotes weight gain and weight gain produces higher blood numbers resulting in the need for more insulin. He said he's had patients that have lost a lot of weight and no longer require insulin......weight control and excercize is real important.
For a full day on the water, I bring some beers, water, soda, LOTS of beef jerky, apple or 2, some chips, and some Nature Valley Fruit And Nut Bars. I love to just kinda snack and drink throughout the day.
Moon Pies and glass Cokes.
Sandwich: Pb&j - ham - turkey - tuna
Chips: hot chettos - lays
Drinks: water - soda - gatorade
Candy: Gummy snacks
After reading these posts Im now hungry..... I go with water, G2, PBJ and Combos.
GATORADE....BEEF JERKY
Typical day, 2 sausage mc's on the way to the lake. Half subway sandwich at lunch, Cliff bars and granola bars through out the day. The other half of the subway in the evening.
i like Stork's response, "moon pies & glass cokes". keeping it old school, & southern too.
I always bring a trail mix with nuts cranberries. I love cakes so cupcakes always find their way. I want to be healthier and jerky is a great choice.
Oh water and drinks are indispensable

This man knows how eat!!
I just bring either 2 hot dog or ppj sandwhich's, water and bubble gum...
Bunch of water, beef jerky and/or granola bars, sometimes an MRE if I have one lying around. I'm usually starving by the time I'm off the water, and tend to get chinese food or something on my way home.
water. then I usually take a Nutella sandwich on a flatbread. doesn't take up space, not messy, and it's also quite filling so I don't have to eat so much. doesn't really have to be kept cool.
A sub sandwich, beef jerky, sunflower seeds, Gatorade, and my camelback filled with water.
I don't know about you guys, but I always bring lunch/a snack and almost always forget to eat or lose my appetite because I'm so excited fishing.
But when I do decide to bring food, it's one of the following options for easy eating:
a. Chicken nuggets/strips of any kind with french fries.
b. A protein bar.
c. Potato chips.
I try to eat a good sized meal before I head out, and bring some granola bars along with plenty of water. On off days or the weekend Ill enjoy a few cold brews on ice as the sun fades away while turning up the tunes on the boat.
coffee, water, and met-rx cookie dough meal replacement bars
When I'm on the water I'm usually to in the mode and don't eat. But never the less I always bring plenty of water, some kind of fruit, and snack bars.
I'm a foody as well but when I'm on the water I try to bring healthy food that will keep my energy level up and attention in the game.
I've read here repeatedly about people drinking beer on the boat. In my state, KY, it is illegal to drive the boat or operate water skis or similar devices while under the influence of alcohol. It also says that if you do operate them you've automatically consented to a test for this if officials decide to give one, and can be arrested if you refuse. Is it not like this everywhere?
Cliff bars are great
Rooster I have a Puerto Rico license and a Florida boating license and both specify that the operator cannot drink. If you do so they prosecute you in a similar way they prosecute driving car wile drunk .
I always pack some waters and a gatorade or fruit juice for beverages. For food i always bring nutrigrain bars and a couple lunchables
On 3/2/2013 at 2:28 PM, Teal said:Dude, are you diabetic? I am. It sucks but good diet and excercise normally keeps it in check.
I'm Type 1, and insulin dependent. Good diet and exercise certainly helps, but isn't enough, since my pancreas doesn't produce insulin anymore.
beef jerky, little container of cottage cheese with fruit or a small container of Yogurt, gatorade, water, and a few IPAs or Sam Adams Summer ales.
Be careful with that blood sugar nonsense. I had a buddy who was diagnosed pre teen. He neglected it, skinny guy, eventually lost his sight and it eventually killed him at 23
BIG pasta dinner the night before so I have energy to paddle. In the cooler the day of I'll make a sammich or grab some subway, a king size snickers, a big gatorade, a big mountain dew, a sixer of good craft beer and a pack of marlboro lights. I might try try the hot dogs in the thermos trick this year though... Except maybe I'll try some brats... d**n, now i'm hungry...
Sub, water, ice
)
I always eat first. Don't know why. Perhaps to get it out of the way. Always a sub... turk, mayo, lettuce, tomato, prov, onion, oil. don't like to drink a lot of anything. ...for obvious reasons.
Eating makes me a better fishergirl.
Sunflower seeds, pbj, Gatorade, water, crackers,.....
I keep it simple.
A few g2 gatorades, few water bottles, some peanut butter and crackers or protein bar, and a couple of PBJ or ham sandwiches for the ride home. Rarely eat while fishing except maybe snack on some peanut butter and crackers. As soon as the boat is loaded I go for my sandwich.
